— Nepřítel ze severu - Lid ve své vzpurnosti setrvá a nedá se varovat. Nakonec bude přehořce truchlit.
1 „Prchejte do bezpečí, synové Benjamínovi, utečte z Jeruzaléma, v Tekóji zatrubte na polnici, vztyčte znamení nad Bét-keremem, protože ze severu vyhlíží zlo a veliká zkáza. 2 Líbeznou a rozkošnou dceru sijónskou umlčím. 3 Přitáhnou k ní pastýři se svými stády, postaví si kolem ní stany a každý spase, co bude moci. 4 Posvěťte se k boji proti ní, vstaňte, vyrazme za poledne! Běda nám, neboť den se nachýlil a dlouží se večerní stíny. 5 Vstaňte, vyrazme v noci a její paláce zničme!“ 6 Toto praví Hospodin zástupů: „Zporážejte stromy a navršte proti Jeruzalému násep. To město musí být celé potrestáno, uprostřed něho je útisk. 7 Jako studna uchovává vodu čerstvou, tak ono uchovává své zlo. Je v něm slyšet o násilí a zhoubě, stále mám před sebou jeho chorobu a ránu. 8 Jeruzaléme, nech se napomenout, jinak se od tebe odloučím, jinak tě obrátím v zpustošený kraj, v zemi neobyvatelnou.“ 9 Toto praví Hospodin zástupů: „Jako vinici ať paběrkují pozůstatek Izraele. Jako vinař vlož znovu svou ruku na úponky.“ 10 Ke komu mám mluvit, koho varovat, aby to slyšel? Hle, jejich uši jsou neobřezané, nemohou tomu věnovat pozornost. Hle, Hospodinovo slovo je jim potupou, nelíbí se jim. 11 Jsem naplněn Hospodinovým rozhořčením, marně se snažím je ztlumit. „Vylej je na děti v ulicích i na skupiny jinochů; polapen bude zároveň muž i žena, stařec i ten, kdo dovršil své dny. 12 Jejich domy, pole, spolu s nimi i ženy dostanou jiní, neboť napřáhnu svou ruku na obyvatele země, je výrok Hospodinův. 13 Od nejmenšího až po největšího všichni propadli chamtivosti, od proroka až po kněze všichni klamou. 14 Těžkou ránu mého lidu léčí lehkovážnými slovy: ‚Pokoj, pokoj!‘ Ale žádný pokoj není. 15 Zastyděli se, že páchali ohavnosti? Ne, ti se nestydí, neznají zahanbení. Proto padnou s padajícími, klopýtnou v čase, kdy je budu trestat, praví Hospodin.“ 16 Toto praví Hospodin: „Stůjte na cestách a vyhlížejte, ptejte se na stezky věčnosti: Kde je ta dobrá cesta? Vydejte se po ní a vaše duše naleznou klid. Ale oni řekli: ‚Nepůjdeme.‘ 17 Ustanovil jsem nad vámi strážné: Věnujte pozornost hlasu polnice! Ale oni řekli: ‚Nebudeme dávat pozor.‘ 18 Proto slyšte, pronárody, poznej, pospolitosti, co se s nimi bude dít! 19 Slyš, země: Hle, já uvedu na tento lid zlé věci, ovoce jejich úmyslů, neboť nevěnovali pozornost mým slovům a můj zákon si zprotivili. 20 Nač je mi kadidlo, které přichází z Šeby, nejlepší vonné koření z daleké země? Vaše zápalné oběti nedojdou zalíbení, vaše obětní hody mi nejsou příjemné.“ 21 Proto praví Hospodin toto: „Hle, kladu před tento lid překážky a klopýtnou o ně otcové spolu se syny, sousedé i druhové zhynou.“ 22 Toto praví Hospodin: „Hle, ze severní země přichází lid, pronárod veliký povstává z nejodlehlejších koutů země. 23 Chopí se luku a oštěpu, budou krutí a nebudou znát slitování, jejich hlas bude hučet jako moře, přijedou na koních seřazeni jako muži k boji proti tobě, dcero sijónská.“ 24 Jen jsme o něm zaslechli zprávu, ochably nám ruce, zachvátila nás úzkost a bolestné křeče jako rodičku. 25 Nevycházej na pole, nechoď na cestu, nepřítel má meč. Kolkolem děs! 26 Opásej se žínicí, dcero mého lidu, válej se v popelu, konej smuteční obřady jako nad jednorozeným, přehořce truchli, neboť náhle přitáhne na nás zhoubce. 27 „Ustanovil jsem tě, abys přezkoušel můj lid, zkoumal jeho ryzost. Poznáš a přezkoušíš jejich cestu. 28 Všichni jsou to umíněnci umínění, utrhají, kudy chodí, jsou z bronzu a ze železa, všichni jsou to zhoubci. 29 Měch supí, z ohně vytéká olovo, tavič nadarmo přetavuje, zlí se neodloučí. 30 Nazvou je stříbrem odvrženým, neboť je odvrhl Hospodin.“

This is the city that must be punished; there is nothing but oppression within her. (Lv 19,16; Jr 5,23; Jr 9,4; Ez 22,18; Ez 22,20)29The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed by the fire; in vain the refining goes on, for the wicked are not removed.
