1Die ´vier Größkönige` Amrafel von Schinar, Arjoch von Ellasar, Kedor-Laomer von Elam und Tidal von Gojim[1]2führten damals Krieg gegen die ´fünf` Stadtkönige Bera von Sodom, Birscha von Gomorra, Schinab von Adma, Schemeber von Zebojim und den Stadtkönig von Bela. - Bela heißt inzwischen Zoar. -3Die fünf Stadtkönige hatten sich verbündet und zogen gemeinsam ins Tal von Siddim (wo jetzt das Tote Meer liegt).4Zwölf Jahre lang hatten sie unter Kedor-Laomers Oberherrschaft gestanden. Im dreizehnten Jahr hatten sie ihm die Tributzahlungen verweigert[2],5und ´jetzt` im vierzehnten Jahr rückten Kedor-Laomer und die ´drei` mit ihm verbündeten Großkönige heran. ´Auf ihrem Feldzug` hatten die vier Großkönige bereits die Rafaïter bei Aschterot-Karnajim, die Susiter bei Ham, die Emiter in der Ebene von Kirjatajim6und die Horiter im Bergland von Seïr bezwungen ´und waren` bis nach El-Paran am Rand der Wüste ´vorgedrungen`.7Anschließend waren sie ´wieder Richtung Norden` nach En-Mischpat (das heute Kadesch heißt) marschiert und hatten das ganze Gebiet der Amalekiter verwüstet sowie ´die Gegend um` Hazezon-Tamar, die von den Amoritern besiedelt wurde.8Jetzt stellten sich ihnen die Stadtkönige von Sodom, Gomorra, Adma, Zebojim und Bela (das heute Zoar heißt) entgegen. Im Tal von Siddim zogen diese fünf in die Schlacht9gegen Kedor-Laomer von Elam, Tidal von Gojim, Amrafel von Schinar und Arjoch von Ellasar – fünf ´kleine Stadtkönige` gegen vier ´große` Könige.10Das Tal Siddim war voller Asphaltgruben. Als die Könige von Sodom und Gomorra[3] in die Flucht geschlagen wurden, fielen viele ihrer Krieger[4] dort hinein. Die übrigen flohen ins Bergland.11Kedor-Laomer und seine Verbündeten plünderten Sodom und Gomorra. ´Sie nahmen` alle Besitztümer und Lebensmittel ´mit` und zogen davon.12Auch Abrams Neffe Lot, der in Sodom wohnte, wurde mitsamt seinem Besitz verschleppt.13Einer von denen, die entkommen konnten, kam zu dem Hebräer Abram und berichtete ihm davon. Abram lebte ´damals` bei den Terebinthen[5] des Amoriters Mamre[6]. Mamre und seine Brüder[7] Eschkol und Aner waren mit Abram verbündet.14Als Abram erfuhr, dass man seinen Neffen[8] gefangengenommen hatte, rief er alle kampferprobten Leute zusammen. Es waren 318 Männer, die schon von Geburt an in seinem Dienst standen[9]. Er jagte ´den feindlichen Truppen` nach und holte sie ´in der Gegend von` Dan ein.15Dort teilte er seine Leute ´in zwei Gruppen` und griff mitten in der Nacht ´von zwei Seiten` an. So schlug er ´die vier Könige` in die Flucht und verfolgte sie bis nach Hoba nördlich von Damaskus.16Er nahm ihnen alles wieder ab[10], was sie erbeutet hatten, und befreite[11] seinen Neffen Lot mit seinem gesamten Besitz sowie die verschleppten Frauen und alle anderen Gefangenen[12].
Melchisedek segnet Abram
17Als Abram nach seinem Sieg über Kedor-Laomer und die anderen Großkönige zurückgekehrt war, zog ihm der Stadtkönig von Sodom entgegen ins Schawetal. - Dieses Tal heißt heute Königstal. -18Auch Melchisedek, der König von Salem[13], ´kam dorthin und` brachte Brot und Wein. Er war ein Priester Gottes, des Höchsten. (Ps 76,3)19Er segnete Abram mit den Worten: »Gesegnet seist du, Abram, vom höchsten Gott, der Himmel und Erde geschaffen hat!20Gepriesen sei er, der höchste Gott, der dir den Sieg über deine Feinde gegeben hat!« Da gab Abram ihm den zehnten Teil von allem, ´was er den Königen abgenommen hatte`.21Der König von Sodom bat Abram: »Gib mir nur meine Leute zurück. Die Beute kannst du behalten.«22Doch Abram hob seine Hand und sagte: »Ich schwöre beim HERRN[14], dem höchsten Gott, der Himmel und Erde geschaffen hat:23Ich behalte nichts von dem, was dir gehört, nicht einmal einen Faden oder einen Schuhriemen. Du sollst nicht sagen können: ›Ich habe Abram reich gemacht!‹24Für mich selbst will ich nichts. Nur was meine Männer unterwegs verzehrt haben, ´nehme ich von dir an`. Aber meine Verbündeten Aner, Eschkol und Mamre sollen ihren Anteil ´an der Beute` bekommen.«

Melchisedek segnet Abram
17Als aber [Abram] von der Schlacht gegen Kedor-Laomer und die Könige, die mit ihm waren, zurückkehrte, ging ihm der König von Sodom entgegen in das Tal Schaweh, das ist das Königstal.18Aber Melchisedek, der König von Salem[2], brachte Brot und Wein herbei. Und er war ein Priester Gottes, des Allerhöchsten. (Ps 110,4; Mt 26,26; 1Kor 11,23; Hebr 5,6; Hebr 7,1)19Und er segnete ihn und sprach: Gesegnet sei Abram von Gott, dem Allerhöchsten, dem Besitzer des Himmels und der Erde! 1At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar,[1] Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim,2these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).3All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea Valley).4For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.5In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim6and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran near the desert.7Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hazezon Tamar.8Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim9against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar – four kings against five.10Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.11The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.12They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.13A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother[2] of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.14When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.15During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.16He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.17After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).18Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,19and he blessed Abram, saying, ‘Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.20And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.’ Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.21The king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.’22But Abram said to the king of Sodom, ‘With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,23that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, “I made Abram rich.”24I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me – to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre.
