So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. Hearing and Doing the Word
19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; (Pr 10:19; Pr 14:29; Pr 17:27; Ec 5:1; 1Jo 2:21)20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (1Co 15:2; Eph 1:13; Col 3:8; Jas 3:13)22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (Mt 7:21; Mt 7:24; Lu 8:21; Joh 13:17; Ro 2:13; Jas 2:14)23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (Ps 1:1; Lu 11:28; Joh 8:32; Ga 2:4; Ga 5:1; Ga 5:13; Jas 2:12; 1Pe 2:16; 2Pe 2:19)26If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. (Ps 34:13; Ps 39:1; Ps 141:3; Ac 26:5; Jas 3:2; Jas 3:6)27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (Job 31:17; Isa 1:17; Isa 1:23; Mt 25:36; 1Ti 5:22; 2Pe 3:14; 1Jo 5:18)

(Mt 5:48; Eph 4:13; Heb 5:8)5Wenn es aber jemand unter euch an Weisheit mangelt, so erbitte er sie von Gott, der allen gern und ohne Vorwurf gibt, so wird sie ihm gegeben werden. (Mt 17:20; Mt 21:22; Ro 4:19)7Ein solcher Mensch denke nicht, dass er etwas von dem Herrn empfangen wird, (Heb 11:6)8ein Mann mit geteiltem Herzen, unbeständig in allen seinen Wegen. (Ps 119:113)9Der Bruder aber, der niedrig gestellt ist, soll sich seiner Erhöhung rühmen, (Lu 6:20)10der Reiche dagegen seiner Niedrigkeit; denn wie eine Blume des Grases[1] wird er vergehen. (Job 14:2; Ps 90:5; Pr 23:4)11Denn kaum ist die Sonne aufgegangen mit ihrer Glut, so verdorrt das Gras, und seine Blume fällt ab, und die Schönheit seiner Gestalt vergeht; so wird auch der Reiche verwelken auf seinen Wegen. (Jon 4:8)12Glückselig ist der Mann, der die Anfechtung erduldet; denn nachdem er sich bewährt hat, wird er die Krone des Lebens empfangen, welche der Herr denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben. (De 7:9; Jud 5:31; Mt 26:41; Ac 20:19; Ga 4:14; 2Ti 4:8; Jas 1:2; Jas 5:10; 1Pe 1:6; Re 2:10)13Niemand sage, wenn er versucht wird: Ich werde von Gott versucht. Denn Gott kann nicht versucht werden zum Bösen, und er selbst versucht auch niemand; (Job 34:10)14sondern jeder Einzelne wird versucht, wenn er von seiner eigenen Begierde gereizt und gelockt wird. (Mr 7:21)15Danach, wenn die Begierde empfangen hat, gebiert sie die Sünde; die Sünde aber, wenn sie vollendet ist, gebiert den Tod. (Jos 7:21; Ps 7:15; Ro 6:23)16Irrt euch nicht, meine geliebten Brüder: (Ga 6:7)17Jede gute Gabe und jedes vollkommene Geschenk kommt von oben herab, von dem Vater der Lichter, bei dem keine Veränderung ist, noch ein Schatten infolge von Wechsel. (Ge 1:3; Ge 1:16; Ps 36:10; Da 2:22; Mal 3:6; Mt 7:11; 2Co 4:6; Eph 4:8; 1Jo 1:5)18Nach seinem Willen hat er uns gezeugt durch das Wort der Wahrheit, damit wir gleichsam Erstlinge seiner Geschöpfe seien. (Joh 1:13; Ro 16:15; 1Co 16:15; Eph 1:13; 1Pe 1:23; Re 14:4)
Nicht nur Hörer, sondern Täter des Wortes sein
19Darum, meine geliebten Brüder, sei jeder Mensch schnell zum Hören, langsam zum Reden, langsam zum Zorn; (1Sa 3:9; Pr 10:19; Pr 14:29; Pr 25:11; Isa 50:4; Eph 4:26; Eph 4:31; Re 2:7)20denn der Zorn des Mannes vollbringt nicht Gottes Gerechtigkeit! (Pr 29:22)21Darum legt ab allen Schmutz und allen Rest von Bosheit und nehmt mit Sanftmut[2] das [euch] eingepflanzte Wort auf, das die Kraft hat, eure Seelen zu erretten! (Col 3:8; 2Ti 3:15; 1Pe 2:1)22Seid aber Täter des Wortes und nicht bloß Hörer, die sich selbst betrügen. (Mt 7:21; Jas 1:25)23Denn wer [nur] Hörer des Wortes ist und nicht Täter, der gleicht einem Mann, der sein natürliches Angesicht im Spiegel anschaut; (Eze 33:32; Lu 6:49)24er betrachtet sich und läuft davon und hat bald vergessen, wie er gestaltet war. (De 32:18; Ps 103:2; 2Pe 1:9)25Wer aber hineinschaut in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit und darin bleibt, dieser [Mensch], der kein vergesslicher Hörer, sondern ein wirklicher Täter ist, er wird glückselig sein in seinem Tun. (Mt 5:19; Joh 8:32; Joh 13:17; Ro 8:2; 2Co 3:17; Jas 2:12)26Wenn jemand unter euch meint, fromm zu sein, seine Zunge aber nicht im Zaum hält, sondern sein Herz betrügt, dessen Frömmigkeit ist wertlos. (Ro 4:14; Jas 1:16; Jas 1:22; Jas 2:20; Jas 3:3; 1Pe 3:10)27Eine reine und makellose Frömmigkeit vor Gott, dem Vater, ist es, Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Bedrängnis zu besuchen und sich von der Welt unbefleckt zu bewahren. (Job 29:12; Isa 58:7; Mt 25:35; Ro 12:2; 2Pe 3:14)
