1  Když Ježíš dokončil všechna tato slova, řekl svým učedníkům: 2  „Víte, že za dva dny budou Velikonoce, a Syn člověka bude vydán, aby byl ukřižován.“  3  Tehdy se sešli velekněží a starší lidu ve dvoře velekněze, který se jmenoval Kaifáš, 4  a uradili se, že se Ježíše zmocní lstí a že ho zabijí. 5  Říkali: „Jen ne při svátečním shromáždění, aby se lid nebouřil.“  6  Když byl Ježíš v Betanii v domě Šimona Malomocného, 7  přišla za ním žena, která měla alabastrovou nádobku drahocenného oleje, a vylila ji na jeho hlavu, jak seděl u stolu. 8  Když to viděli učedníci, hněvali se: „Nač taková ztráta? 9  Mohlo se to prodat za mnoho peněz a ty dát chudým!“ 10  Ježíš to zpozoroval a řekl jim: „Proč trápíte tu ženu? Vykonala na mně dobrý skutek. 11  Vždyť chudé máte stále kolem sebe, mne však nemáte stále. 12  Když vylila ten olej na mé tělo, učinila to k mému pohřbu. 13  Amen, pravím vám, všude po celém světě, kde bude kázáno toto evangelium, bude se mluvit na její památku o tom, co ona učinila.“  14  Tehdy šel jeden ze Dvanácti, jménem Jidáš Iškariotský, k velekněžím 15  a řekl: „Co mi dáte? Já vám ho zradím.“ Oni mu určili třicet stříbrných. 16  Od té chvíle hledal vhodnou příležitost, aby ho zradil.  17  Prvního dne o svátcích nekvašených chlebů přišli učedníci za Ježíšem a řekli: „Kde chceš, abychom ti připravili velikonoční večeři?“ 18  On je poslal do města k jistému člověku, aby mu řekli: „Mistr vzkazuje: Můj čas je blízko, u tebe budu jíst se svými učedníky velikonočního beránka.“ 19  Učedníci učinili, jak jim Ježíš nařídil, a připravili velikonočního beránka.  20  Navečer usedl s Dvanácti ke stolu, 21  a když jedli, řekl jim: „Amen, pravím vám, že jeden z vás mě zradí.“ 22  Velice je to zarmoutilo a začali se ho jeden po druhém ptát: „Snad to nejsem já, Pane?“ 23  On odpověděl: „Kdo se mnou omočil ruku v míse, ten mě zradí. 24  Syn člověka sice odchází, jak je o něm psáno; ale běda tomu, který Syna člověka zrazuje. Pro toho by bylo lépe, kdyby se byl vůbec nenarodil!“ 25  Na to řekl Jidáš, který ho zrazoval: „Jsem to snad já, Mistře?“ Řekl mu: „Ty sám jsi to řekl.“  26  Když jedli, vzal Ježíš chléb, požehnal, lámal a dával učedníkům se slovy: „Vezměte, jezte, toto jest mé tělo.“ 27  Pak vzal kalich, vzdal díky a podal jim ho se slovy: „Pijte z něho všichni. 28  Neboť toto jest má krev, která zpečeťuje smlouvu a prolévá se za mnohé na odpuštění hříchů. 29  Pravím vám, že již nebudu pít z tohoto plodu vinné révy až do toho dne, kdy budu s vámi pít kalich nový v království svého Otce.“  30  Potom zazpívali chvalozpěv a vyšli na Olivovou horu. 31  Tu jim Ježíš řekl: „Vy všichni ode mne této noci odpadnete, neboť je psáno: ‚Budu bít pastýře a rozprchnou se ovce stáda.‘ 32  Po svém vzkříšení však vás předejdu do Galileje.“ 33  Na to mu řekl Petr: „Kdyby všichni od tebe odpadli, já nikdy ne!“ 34  Ježíš mu odpověděl: „Amen, pravím ti, že ještě této noci, dřív než kohout zakokrhá, třikrát mě zapřeš.“ 35  Petr prohlásil: „I kdybych měl s tebou umřít, nezapřu tě.“ Podobně mluvili všichni učedníci.  36  Tu s nimi Ježíš přišel na místo zvané Getsemane a řekl učedníkům: „Počkejte zatím zde, já půjdu dál, abych se modlil.“ 37  Vzal s sebou Petra a oba syny Zebedeovy; tu na něho padl zármutek a úzkost. 38  Tehdy jim řekl: „Má duše je smutná až k smrti. Zůstaňte zde a bděte se mnou!“ 39  Poodešel od nich, padl tváří k zemi a modlil se: „Otče můj, je-li možné, ať mne mine tento kalich; avšak ne jak já chci, ale jak ty chceš.“ 40  Potom přišel k učedníkům a zastihl je ve spánku. Řekl Petrovi: „To jste nemohli jedinou hodinu bdít se mnou? 41  Bděte a modlete se, abyste neupadli do pokušení. Duch je odhodlán, ale tělo slabé.“ 42  Odešel podruhé a modlil se: „Otče můj, není-li možné, aby mne ten kalich minul, a musím-li jej pít, staň se tvá vůle.“ 43  A když se vrátil, zastihl je opět spící; nemohli oči udržet. 44  Nechal je, zase odešel a potřetí se modlil stejnými slovy. 45  Potom přišel k učedníkům a řekl jim: „Ještě spíte a odpočíváte? Hle, přiblížila se hodina, a Syn člověka je vydáván do rukou hříšníků. 46  Vstaňte, pojďme! Hle, přiblížil se ten, který mě zrazuje.“  47  Ještě ani nedomluvil a přišel Jidáš, jeden z Dvanácti. Velekněží a starší s ním poslali zástup, ozbrojený meči a holemi. 48  Jeho zrádce s nimi domluvil znamení: „Koho políbím, ten to je; toho zatkněte.“ 49  A hned přistoupil k Ježíšovi a řekl: „Buď zdráv, Mistře,“ a políbil ho. 50  Ježíš mu odpověděl: „Příteli, konej svůj úkol!“ Tu přistoupili k Ježíšovi, vztáhli na něho ruce a zmocnili se ho. 51  Jeden z těch, kdo byli s ním, sáhl po meči, napadl veleknězova sluhu a uťal mu ucho. 52  Ježíš mu řekl: „Vrať svůj meč na jeho místo; všichni, kdo se chápou meče, mečem zajdou. 53  Či myslíš, že bych nemohl poprosit svého Otce, a poslal by mi ihned víc než dvanáct legií andělů? 54  Ale jak by se potom splnila Písma, že to tak musí být?“ 55  V té hodině řekl Ježíš zástupům: „Vyšli jste na mne jako na povstalce s meči a holemi, abyste mě zajali. Denně jsem sedával v chrámě a učil, a nezmocnili jste se mne. 56  Toto všechno se však stalo, aby se splnilo, co napsali proroci.“ A tu ho všichni učedníci opustili a utekli.  57  Ti, kteří Ježíše zatkli, odvedli ho k veleknězi Kaifášovi, kde se shromáždili zákoníci a starší. 58  Petr šel za ním zpovzdálí až do veleknězova dvora; vstoupil dovnitř a posadil se mezi sluhy, aby viděl konec. 59  Velekněží a celá rada hledali křivé svědectví proti Ježíšovi, aby ho mohli odsoudit k smrti. 60  Ale nenalezli, ačkoli předstupovalo mnoho křivých svědků. Konečně přišli dva 61  a vypovídali: „On řekl: Mohu zbořit chrám a ve třech dnech jej vystavět.“ 62  Tu velekněz vstal a řekl mu: „Nic neodpovídáš na to, co tihle proti tobě svědčí?“ 63  Ale Ježíš mlčel. A velekněz mu řekl: „Zapřísahám tě při Bohu živém, abys nám řekl, jsi-li Mesiáš, Syn Boží!“ 64  Ježíš odpověděl: „Ty sám jsi to řekl. Ale pravím vám, od nynějška uzříte Syna člověka sedět po pravici Všemohoucího a přicházet s oblaky nebeskými.“ 65  Tu velekněz roztrhl svá roucha a řekl: „Rouhal se! Nač ještě potřebujeme svědky? Hle, teď jste slyšeli rouhání. 66  Co o tom soudíte?“ Jejich výrok zněl: „Je hoden smrti.“  67  Pak mu plivali do obličeje, bili ho po hlavě, někteří ho tloukli do tváře 68  a říkali: „Hádej, Mesiáši, kdo tě udeřil!“  69  Petr seděl venku v nádvoří. Tu k němu přistoupila jedna služka a řekla: „I ty jsi byl s tím Galilejským Ježíšem!“ 70  Ale on přede všemi zapřel: „Nevím, co mluvíš.“ 71  Vyšel k bráně, ale uviděla ho jiná a řekla těm, kdo tam byli: „Tenhle byl s tím Nazaretským Ježíšem.“ 72  On znovu zapřel s přísahou: „Neznám toho člověka.“ 73  Ale zakrátko přistoupili ti, kdo tam stáli, a řekli Petrovi: „Jistě i ty jsi z nich, vždyť i tvé nářečí tě prozrazuje!“ 74  Tu se začal zaklínat a zapřísahat: „Neznám toho člověka.“ Vtom zakokrhal kohout; 75  tu se Petr rozpomněl na slova, která mu Ježíš řekl: ‚Dříve než kohout zakokrhá, třikrát mě zapřeš.‘ Vyšel ven a hořce se rozplakal.

1 Und es geschah, als Jesus alle diese Reden beendet hatte, sagte er zu seinen Jüngern: (Mk 14,1; L 22,1; J 11,47) 2 Ihr wisst, dass in zwei Tagen das Paschafest ist; da wird der Menschensohn ausgeliefert, um gekreuzigt zu werden. 3 Da versammelten sich die Hohepriester und die Ältesten des Volkes im Palast des Hohepriesters, der Kajaphas hieß,[1] 4 und beschlossen, Jesus mit List in ihre Gewalt zu bringen und ihn zu töten. 5 Sie sagten aber: Ja nicht am Fest, damit kein Aufruhr im Volk entsteht. 6 Als Jesus in Betanien im Haus Simons des Aussätzigen war, (Mk 14,3; L 7,36; J 12,1) 7 kam eine Frau mit einem Alabastergefäß voll kostbarem Salböl zu ihm, als er bei Tisch war, und goss es über sein Haupt. 8 Die Jünger wurden unwillig, als sie das sahen, und sagten: Wozu diese Verschwendung? 9 Man hätte das Öl teuer verkaufen und das Geld den Armen geben können. 10 Jesus bemerkte ihren Unwillen und sagte zu ihnen: Warum lasst ihr die Frau nicht in Ruhe? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan. 11 Denn die Armen habt ihr immer bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht immer. 12 Als sie das Öl über mich goss, hat sie meinen Leib für das Begräbnis gesalbt. 13 Amen, ich sage euch: Auf der ganzen Welt, wo dieses Evangelium verkündet wird, wird man auch erzählen, was sie getan hat, zu ihrem Gedächtnis. 14 Darauf ging einer der Zwölf namens Judas Iskariot zu den Hohepriestern (Mk 14,10; L 22,3) 15 und sagte: Was wollt ihr mir geben, wenn ich euch Jesus ausliefere? Und sie boten ihm dreißig Silberstücke. (Za 11,12) 16 Von da an suchte er nach einer Gelegenheit, ihn auszuliefern. 17 Am ersten Tag des Festes der Ungesäuerten Brote gingen die Jünger zu Jesus und fragten: Wo sollen wir das Paschamahl für dich vorbereiten? (Ex 12,14; Mk 14,12; L 22,7) 18 Er antwortete: Geht in die Stadt zu dem und dem und sagt zu ihm: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist da; bei dir will ich mit meinen Jüngern das Paschamahl feiern. 19 Die Jünger taten, wie Jesus ihnen aufgetragen hatte, und bereiteten das Paschamahl vor. 20 Als es Abend wurde, begab er sich mit den zwölf Jüngern zu Tisch. (Mk 14,17; L 22,21; J 13,2) 21 Und während sie aßen, sprach er: Amen, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich ausliefern. 22 Da wurden sie sehr traurig und einer nach dem andern fragte ihn: Bin ich es etwa, Herr? 23 Er antwortete: Der die Hand mit mir in die Schüssel eintunkt, wird mich ausliefern. 24 Der Menschensohn muss zwar seinen Weg gehen, wie die Schrift über ihn sagt. Doch weh dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn ausgeliefert wird! Für ihn wäre es besser, wenn er nie geboren wäre. 25 Da fragte Judas, der ihn auslieferte: Bin ich es etwa, Rabbi? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es. 26 Während des Mahls nahm Jesus das Brot und sprach den Lobpreis; dann brach er das Brot, reichte es den Jüngern und sagte: Nehmt und esst; das ist mein Leib. (Mk 14,22; L 22,14; 1K 10,16; 1K 11,23) 27 Dann nahm er den Kelch, sprach das Dankgebet, gab ihn den Jüngern und sagte: Trinkt alle daraus; 28 das ist mein Blut des Bundes, das für viele vergossen wird zur Vergebung der Sünden. (Ex 24,8) 29 Ich sage euch: Von jetzt an werde ich nicht mehr von dieser Frucht des Weinstocks trinken, bis zu dem Tag, an dem ich mit euch von Neuem davon trinke im Reich meines Vaters. (L 22,18) 30 Nach dem Lobgesang gingen sie zum Ölberg hinaus. (Mk 14,26) 31 Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr alle werdet in dieser Nacht an mir Anstoß nehmen; denn in der Schrift steht: Ich werde den Hirten erschlagen, dann werden sich die Schafe der Herde zerstreuen. (Za 13,7; J 16,32) 32 Aber nach meiner Auferstehung werde ich euch nach Galiläa vorausgehen. (Mt 28,7) 33 Petrus erwiderte ihm: Und wenn alle an dir Anstoß nehmen - ich werde niemals an dir Anstoß nehmen! (L 22,33; J 13,37) 34 Jesus sagte zu ihm: Amen, ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. (Mt 26,69) 35 Da sagte Petrus zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste - ich werde dich nie verleugnen. Das Gleiche sagten auch alle Jünger. 36 Darauf kam Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Grundstück, das man Getsemani nennt, und sagte zu den Jüngern: Setzt euch hier, während ich dorthin gehe und bete! (Mk 14,32; L 22,39) 37 Und er nahm Petrus und die beiden Söhne des Zebedäus mit sich. Da ergriff ihn Traurigkeit und Angst (Žd 5,7) 38 und er sagte zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist zu Tode betrübt. Bleibt hier und wacht mit mir! (Ž 42,6; Ž 43,5) 39 Und er ging ein Stück weiter, warf sich auf sein Gesicht und betete: Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber. Aber nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du willst. (Mt 20,22; J 6,38; J 18,11; Žd 10,9) 40 Und er ging zu den Jüngern zurück und fand sie schlafend. Da sagte er zu Petrus: Konntet ihr nicht einmal eine Stunde mit mir wachen? 41 Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung geratet! Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach. 42 Wieder ging er weg, zum zweiten Mal, und betete: Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch an mir nicht vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, geschehe dein Wille. 43 Als er zurückkam, fand er sie wieder schlafend, denn die Augen waren ihnen zugefallen. 44 Und er ließ sie, ging wieder weg und betete zum dritten Mal mit den gleichen Worten. 45 Danach kehrte er zu den Jüngern zurück und sagte zu ihnen: Schlaft ihr immer noch und ruht euch aus? Siehe, die Stunde ist gekommen und der Menschensohn wird in die Hände von Sündern ausgeliefert. (J 12,23) 46 Steht auf, wir wollen gehen! Siehe, der mich ausliefert, ist da. 47 Noch während er redete, siehe, da kam Judas, einer der Zwölf, mit einer großen Schar von Männern, die mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnet waren; sie waren von den Hohepriestern und den Ältesten des Volkes geschickt worden. Da gingen sie auf Jesus zu, ergriffen ihn und nahmen ihn fest. 51 Und siehe, einer von den Begleitern Jesu streckte die Hand aus, zog sein Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohepriesters ein und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. 52 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Steck dein Schwert in die Scheide; denn alle, die zum Schwert greifen, werden durch das Schwert umkommen. 53 Oder glaubst du nicht, mein Vater würde mir sogleich mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel schicken, wenn ich ihn darum bitte? 54 Wie würden dann aber die Schriften erfüllt, dass es so geschehen muss? 55 In jener Stunde sagte Jesus zu den Männern: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr mit Schwertern und Knüppeln ausgezogen, um mich festzunehmen. Tag für Tag saß ich im Tempel und lehrte und ihr habt mich nicht verhaftet. 56 Das alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten in Erfüllung gehen. Da verließen ihn alle Jünger und flohen. (Mt 26,31) 57 Nach der Verhaftung führte man Jesus zum Hohepriester Kajaphas, bei dem sich die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt hatten. (Mk 14,53; L 22,66; J 18,13) 58 Petrus folgte Jesus von Weitem bis zum Hof des Hohepriesters; er ging in den Hof hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um zu sehen, wie alles ausgehen würde. 59 Die Hohepriester und der ganze Hohe Rat bemühten sich um falsche Zeugenaussagen gegen Jesus, um ihn zum Tod verurteilen zu können. 60 Sie fanden aber nichts, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen auftraten. Zuletzt kamen zwei Männer 61 und behaupteten: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes niederreißen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen. (Mt 27,40; J 2,19) 62 Da stand der Hohepriester auf und fragte Jesus: Willst du nichts sagen zu dem, was diese Leute gegen dich vorbringen? 63 Jesus aber schwieg. Darauf sagte der Hohepriester zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, sag uns: Bist du der Christus, der Sohn Gottes? (Mt 16,16; J 10,24) 64 Jesus antwortete: Du hast es gesagt. Doch ich erkläre euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Menschensohn zur Rechten der Macht sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen. (Da 7,13; Mt 24,30; Mk 13,26; L 21,27) 65 Da zerriss der Hohepriester sein Gewand und rief: Er hat Gott gelästert! Wozu brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Jetzt habt ihr die Gotteslästerung gehört. (Lv 24,16; J 19,7) 66 Was ist eure Meinung? Sie antworteten: Er ist des Todes schuldig. 67 Dann spuckten sie ihm ins Gesicht und schlugen ihn. Andere ohrfeigten ihn 68 und riefen: Christus, du bist doch ein Prophet, sag uns: Wer hat dich geschlagen? 69 Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof. Da trat eine Magd zu ihm und sagte: Auch du warst mit diesem Jesus aus Galiläa zusammen. (Mk 14,66; L 22,54; J 18,15) 70 Doch er leugnete es vor allen und sagte: Ich weiß nicht, wovon du redest. 71 Und als er zum Tor hinausgehen wollte, sah ihn eine andere Magd und sagte zu denen, die dort standen: Der war mit Jesus dem Nazoräer zusammen. 72 Wieder leugnete er und schwor: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. (Mt 10,33) 73 Wenig später kamen die Leute, die dort standen, und sagten zu Petrus: Wirklich, auch du gehörst zu ihnen, deine Mundart verrät dich. 74 Da fing er an zu fluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. Gleich darauf krähte ein Hahn 75 und Petrus erinnerte sich an das Wort, das Jesus gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. (Mt 26,34)

1 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, 2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” (Mt 20,18; Mt 26,24; Mk 14,1; L 22,1; J 6,4) 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, (Ž 2,2; Mt 26,57; Mt 26,58; Mt 26,69; L 3,2; L 11,21; J 11,47; J 11,49; J 18,13; J 18,15; Sk 4,6; Sk 4,27; Zj 11,2) 4 and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. (Mt 21,46; J 11,53) 5 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.” (Mt 27,24) 6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[1] (Mt 21,17; Mk 14,3; L 7,37; J 11,18; J 12,1) 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8 And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.” (J 13,29) 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? Who is it that struck you?” (Mt 26,63) 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” (Mt 26,3; Mk 14,66; L 22,55; J 18,16; J 18,25) 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” 71 And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” (Mt 2,23) 72 And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.” (Sd 12,6) 74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. 1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, 2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. 3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. 5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. 6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. 8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. 14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. 57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; 60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, 61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee? 69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
