1 Тогава ГОСПОД каза на Самуил: Докога ще плачеш за Саул, тъй като Аз съм го отхвърлил да не царува над Израил? Напълни рога си с миро и иди; Аз те изпращам при витлеемеца Есей; защото Си промислих цар измежду неговите синове. (1 Цар 9:16; 1 Цар 15:23; 1 Цар 15:35; 4 Цар 9:1; Пс 78:70; Пс 89:19; Пс 89:20; Д А 13:22) 2 А Самуил отвърна: Как да ида? Ако чуе Саул, ще ме убие. И ГОСПОД каза: Вземи със себе си телица и кажи: Дойдох да пожертвам на ГОСПОДА; (Изх 4:15; 1 Цар 9:12; 1 Цар 9:16; 1 Цар 20:29) 3 и покани Есей на жертвата. Тогава Аз ще ти покажа какво да правиш; и ще помажеш този, когото ти посоча по име. 4 Самуил направи каквото каза ГОСПОД и отиде във Витлеем. А градските старейшини го посрещнаха разтреперани и го запитаха: С мир ли идваш? (1 Цар 21:1; 3 Цар 2:13; 4 Цар 9:22) 5 Той отговори: С мир. Идвам да пожертвам на ГОСПОДА. Осветете се и елате с мене на жертвата. И той освети Есей и синовете му и ги покани на жертвата. (Изх 19:10; Изх 19:14) 6 И когато те влизаха и Самуил видя Елиав, си каза: Със сигурност този е помазаникът, когото ГОСПОД е избрал. (1 Цар 17:13; 3 Цар 12:26; 1 Лет 27:18) 7 Но ГОСПОД каза на Самуил: Не гледай на лицето му, нито на високия му ръст, понеже съм го отхвърлил. Защото не гледам, както гледа човек; понеже човек гледа на лице, а ГОСПОД гледа на сърце. (3 Цар 8:39; 1 Лет 28:9; Пс 7:9; Пс 147:10; Пс 147:11; Ис 55:8; Ер 11:20; Ер 17:10; Ер 20:12; Д А 1:24; 2 Кор 10:7) 8 Тогава Есей повика Авинадав и го накара да мине пред Самуил. А Самуил каза: И този не е избрал ГОСПОД. (1 Цар 17:13) 9 Тогава Есей накара Сама да мине; но Самуил каза: Нито пък този е избраникът на ГОСПОД. (1 Цар 17:13; 2 Цар 13:3; 1 Лет 2:13) 10 И Есей накара да минат и седемте му сина пред Самуил; но Самуил каза на Есей: ГОСПОД не е избрал тези. 11 Тогава Самуил запита Есей: Всичките ти синове ли присъстват тук? Есей отговори: Остава само най-младият. Той пасе овцете. А Самуил му каза: Прати да го доведат; защото няма да седнем около трапезата, докато той не дойде тук. (1 Цар 17:12; 2 Цар 7:8; Пс 78:70) 12 И Есей изпрати и го доведоха. Той беше рус, с хубави очи и красив наглед. И ГОСПОД каза: Стани, помажи го, защото това е той. (1 Цар 9:17; 1 Цар 17:42; П П 5:10) 13 Тогава Самуил взе рога с мирото и го помаза пред братята му; и ГОСПОДНИЯТ Дух дойде със сила върху Давид от същия ден и нататък. Тогава Самуил стана и си отиде в Рама. (Чис 27:18; Съд 11:29; Съд 13:25; Съд 14:6; 1 Цар 10:1; 1 Цар 10:6; 1 Цар 10:10; Пс 89:20) 14 А ГОСПОДНИЯТ Дух се беше оттеглил от Саул и зъл дух от ГОСПОДА го смущаваше. (Съд 9:23; Съд 16:20; 1 Цар 11:6; 1 Цар 18:10; 1 Цар 18:12; 1 Цар 19:9; 1 Цар 28:15; Пс 51:11) 15 И така, слугите на Саул му казаха: Ето, смущава те зъл дух от Бога; 16 затова нека господарят ни заповяда на слугите си, които са пред него, за да потърсят човек, който знае да свири на арфа. И когато злият дух от Бога е на тебе, този човек ще свири с ръцете си и ще ти стане по-добре. (Бит 41:46; 1 Цар 16:21; 1 Цар 16:22; 1 Цар 16:23; 3 Цар 10:8; 4 Цар 3:15) 17 И Саул каза на слугите си: Намерете ми човек, който свири добре, и го доведете при мене. 18 Тогава един от слугите му проговори: Видях един от синовете на витлеемеца Есей, който знае да свири и е силен и храбър военен мъж. В слово е разумен и е красив човек. И ГОСПОД е с него. (1 Цар 3:19; 1 Цар 17:32; 1 Цар 17:34; 1 Цар 18:12; 1 Цар 18:14) 19 Тогава Саул проводи пратеници до Есей да кажат: Изпрати ми сина си Давид, който пасе овцете. (1 Цар 16:11; 1 Цар 17:15; 1 Цар 17:34) 20 И така, Есей взе един осел, натовари го с хляб и с един мях с вино, и едно яре, и ги прати на Саул със сина си Давид. (Бит 43:11; 1 Цар 10:27; 1 Цар 17:18; Пр 18:16) 21 Давид дойде при Саул и остана да служи при него. Саул го обикна много и Давид му стана оръженосец. (Бит 41:46; 3 Цар 10:8; Пр 22:29) 22 А Саул изпрати да кажат на Есей: Нека Давид остане при мене, защото придоби моето благоволение. 23 И когато злият дух от Бога идваше на Саул, Давид вземаше арфата и свиреше с ръцете си. Тогава Саул се освежаваше и му ставаше добре, и злият дух се оттегляше от него. (1 Цар 16:14; 1 Цар 16:16)

1 The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.” (1 Цар 10:1; 1 Цар 15:23; 1 Цар 15:26; 1 Цар 15:35; Пс 78:70; Пс 89:19; Пс 89:20; Д А 13:22) 2 And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” And the LORD said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’ (1 Цар 9:12; 1 Цар 20:29) 3 And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.” (1 Цар 9:16) 4 Samuel did what the LORD commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, “Do you come peaceably?” (1 Цар 21:1; 3 Цар 2:13; 4 Цар 9:22) 5 And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” And he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. (И Н 3:5) 6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed is before him.” (1 Цар 17:13) 7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. (1 Цар 17:18) 21 And David came to Saul and entered his service. And Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer. (1 Цар 16:1) 22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.” 23 And whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well, and the harmful spirit departed from him. (1 Цар 16:1; 1 Цар 16:14)
