Israel vor dem Schilfmeer — der Pharao rückt heran

1 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach: 2 Sage den Kindern Israels, dass sie umkehren und sich vor Pi-Hachirot lagern, zwischen Migdol und dem Meer; gerade gegenüber von Baal-Zephon sollt ihr euch am Meer lagern! (2Mo 13,18; 4Mo 33,7; Jer 44,1) 3 Denn der Pharao wird von den Kindern Israels sagen: Sie irren im Land umher, die Wüste hat sie eingeschlossen! 5 Als nun dem König von Ägypten gemeldet wurde, dass das Volk geflohen sei, da wandte sich das Herz des Pharao und seiner Knechte gegen das Volk, und sie sprachen: Was haben wir da getan, dass wir Israel haben ziehen lassen, sodass sie uns nicht mehr dienen! (2Mo 12,33) 6 Und er spannte seinen Wagen an und nahm sein Kriegsvolk mit sich. (2Mo 14,4) 7 Er nahm auch 600 auserlesene Streitwagen mit und alle [übrigen] Streitwagen in Ägypten und Wagenkämpfer auf jedem. 9 So jagten ihnen die Ägypter nach mit allen Rossen, Streitwagen und Reitern des Pharao und mit seiner Heeresmacht und erreichten sie, als sie sich am Meer gelagert hatten, bei Pi-Hachirot, gegenüber Baal-Zephon. 11 Und sie sprachen zu Mose: Gibt es etwa keine Gräber in Ägypten, dass du uns weggeführt hast, damit wir in der Wüste sterben? Warum hast du uns das angetan, dass du uns aus Ägypten herausgeführt hast? Israel zieht durchs Schilfmeer — die Ägypter kommen darin um

15 Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Was schreist du zu mir? Sage den Kindern Israels, dass sie aufbrechen sollen! (2Mo 14,14) 16 Du aber hebe deinen Stab auf und strecke deine Hand über das Meer und zerteile es, damit die Kinder Israels mitten durch das Meer auf dem Trockenen gehen können! (Jos 3,13; Jos 4,22) 17 Ich aber, siehe, ich will das Herz der Ägypter verstocken, dass sie ihnen nachziehen; dann will ich mich verherrlichen an dem Pharao und an seiner ganzen Heeresmacht, an seinen Streitwagen und seinen Reitern. 1 Dann gab der HERR Mose folgende Anweisungen: 2 »Befiehl den Israeliten umzukehren und am Meer östlich von Pi-Hahirot, zwischen Migdol und dem Meer, gegenüber von Baal-Zefon zu lagern. (4Mo 33,7) 3 Dann wird der Pharao denken, ihr hättet euch in der Wüste verirrt und lauft ziellos im Land umher. 4 Ich will das Herz des Pharaos noch ein weiteres Mal hart machen, sodass er euch nachjagen wird. Die Ägypter verfolgen Israel

5 Als dem König von Ägypten mitgeteilt wurde, dass die Israeliten geflohen waren, änderten er und seine Minister ihren Sinn. »Wie konnten wir nur diese israelitischen Sklaven ziehen lassen?«, fragten sie sich. (Ps 105,25) 6 Der Pharao ließ seinen Streitwagen anspannen und brach mit seinen Kriegern auf. 7 Er nahm 600 der besten ägyptischen Streitwagen sowie alle übrigen verfügbaren Streitwagen Ägyptens mit, bemannt mit den besten Kriegern. (2Mo 15,4) 8 Der HERR hatte das Herz des Pharaos hart gemacht. Und so jagte dieser den Israeliten nach, obwohl sie das Land kampfbereit^[1] verlassen hatten. (4Mo 33,3; Apg 13,17) 9 So jagte das ganze Heer der Ägypter – alle Pferde, Streitwagen, Reiter und Krieger des Pharaos – ihnen nach. Bei Pi-Hahirot, gegenüber von Baal-Zefon, holten sie die Israeliten ein, die dort ihr Lager aufgeschlagen hatten. (2Mo 14,2; 2Mo 15,9; Jos 24,6) 10 Als die Israeliten den Pharao mit seinem Heer herankommen sahen, bekamen sie große Angst und schrien zum HERRN um Hilfe. (Jos 24,7; Neh 9,9) 11 Mose jedoch warfen sie vor: »Hast du uns etwa hierher gebracht, damit wir in der Wüste sterben? Gab es denn nicht genug Gräber für uns in Ägypten? Warum hast du uns das angetan und uns aus Ägypten geführt? (2Mo 5,21; 2Mo 15,24; Ps 106,7) 12 Haben wir dir nicht schon in Ägypten gesagt: ›Lass uns in Ruhe, wir möchten den Ägyptern dienen?‹ Wir hätten lieber weiter für die Ägypter arbeiten sollen, als hier in der Wüste zu sterben!« 13 Doch Mose sagte zum Volk: »Habt keine Angst! Flucht durchs Rote Meer

15 Dann sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Warum schreist du zu mir? Sag den Israeliten, dass sie aufbrechen sollen! (Jos 7,10) 16 Halte deinen Hirtenstab hoch, strecke ihn über das Meer aus und teile es. Dann sollen die Israeliten trockenen Fußes hindurchgehen. (2Mo 4,17; 4Mo 20,8) 17 Ich will aber die Herzen der Ägypter hart machen, sodass sie euch folgen werden. Dann werde ich meine Größe und Macht am Pharao und seinem Heer, seinen Streitwagen und Reitern zeigen. 18 Und die Ägypter werden dadurch erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin!« (2Mo 14,25) 19 Dann begaben sich der Engel Gottes und die Wolkensäule, die dem israelitischen Heerlager vorangezogen waren, ans Ende des Zuges. (2Mo 13,21) 20 So stand die Wolkensäule zwischen dem Heer der Israeliten und dem Heer der Ägypter. Während sie die Ägypter in Dunkelheit hüllte, erhellte sie jedoch auf der Seite der Israeliten die Nacht. Deshalb konnte das ägyptische Heer die Israeliten nicht angreifen. 21 Dann streckte Mose seine Hand über das Meer aus. Da ließ der HERR das Wasser durch einen starken Ostwind zurückgehen. Der Wind blies die ganze Nacht, teilte das Meer und verwandelte den Meeresboden in trockenes Land. (2Mo 7,19; Ps 106,9; Ps 114,3; Jes 63,12)

23 Alle Pferde, Streitwagen und Reiter des Pharaos jagten ihnen mitten ins Meer hinein nach. 24 Kurz vor Sonnenaufgang blickte der HERR aus der Feuer- und Wolkensäule auf das Heer der Ägypter und brachte die Krieger durcheinander. (2Mo 13,21) 25 Er ließ die Räder ihrer Streitwagen abspringen, sodass sie kaum noch vorwärts kamen. »Lasst uns fliehen!«, riefen die Ägypter. »Der HERR steht auf der Seite der Israeliten und kämpft gegen uns!« 26 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Strecke deine Hand noch einmal über das Meer aus, damit das Wasser zurückfließt und die ägyptischen Streitwagen und Reiter überflutet.« (2Mo 14,16) 27 Als der Morgen graute, streckte Mose seine Hand über das Meer aus. Da floss das Wasser wieder zurück, den fliehenden Ägyptern entgegen. So trieb der HERR die Ägypter ins Meer. 29 Die Israeliten jedoch waren trockenen Fußes mitten durchs Meer gezogen, während das Wasser sich wie eine Wand rechts und links von ihnen erhob. Then Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them. They said, ‘What have we done? We’ve let the people of Israel go! We’ve lost our slaves and all the work they used to do for us!’ 6 So he had his chariot made ready. He took his army with him. 7 He took 600 of the best chariots in Egypt. He also took along all the other chariots. Officers were in charge of all of them. 8 The LORD made Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, stubborn. So he chased the Israelites as they were marching out boldly. 9 The Egyptians went after the Israelites. All Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen and troops chased them. They caught up with the Israelites as they camped by the sea. The Israelites were near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon. 10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked back. There were the Egyptians marching after them! The Israelites were terrified. They cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, ‘Why did you bring us to the desert to die? Weren’t there any graves in Egypt? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 We told you in Egypt, “Leave us alone. Let us serve the Egyptians.” It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die here in the desert!’ 13 Moses answered the people. He said, ‘Don’t be afraid. Stand firm. You will see how the LORD will save you today. Do you see those Egyptians? You will never see them again. 14 The LORD will fight for you. Just be still.’ 15 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people of Israel to move on. 16 Hold out your walking stick. Reach out your hand over the Red Sea to divide the water. Then the people can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will make the Egyptians stubborn. They will go in after the Israelites. I will gain glory for myself because of what will happen to Pharaoh, his army, chariots and horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. I will gain glory because of what will happen to Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.’ 19 The angel of God had been travelling in front of Israel’s army. Now he moved back and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved away from in front of them. Now it stood behind them. 20 It came between the armies of Egypt and Israel. All through the night the cloud brought darkness to one side and light to the other. Neither army went near the other all night long. 21 Then Moses reached out his hand over the Red Sea. All that night the LORD pushed the sea back with a strong east wind. He turned the sea into dry land. The waters were divided. 22 The people of Israel went through the sea on dry ground. There was a wall of water on their right side and on their left. 23 The Egyptians chased them. All Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 Near the end of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud. He saw the Egyptian army and threw it into a panic. 25 He jammed the wheels of their chariots. That made the chariots hard to drive. The Egyptians said, ‘Let’s get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for Israel against Egypt.’ 26 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Reach out your hand over the sea. The waters will flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.’ 27 So Moses reached out his hand over the sea. At sunrise the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians tried to run away from the sea. But the LORD swept them into it. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen. It covered the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the people of Israel into the sea. Not one of the Egyptians was left. 29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground. There was a wall of water on their right side and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the power of Egypt. The Israelites saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 The Israelites saw the amazing power the LORD showed against the Egyptians. So the Israelites had great respect for the LORD and put their trust in him. They also put their trust in his servant Moses.
