1 Damals sangen Mose und die Kinder Israels dem HERRN diesen Lobgesang und sprachen: »Ich will dem HERRN singen, denn hoch erhaben ist er: Ross und Reiter hat er ins Meer gestürzt! (2Mo 14,26; Ps 106,12) 2 Der HERR ist meine Stärke und mein Lobgesang, und er wurde mir zum Heil! Das ist mein starker Gott, ich will ihn preisen; er ist der Gott meines Vaters, ich will ihn erheben. (Ps 118,15; Jes 51,9) 7 Und mit deiner großen Macht hast du deine Widersacher vertilgt; du hast deinen Grimm losgelassen, der verzehrte sie wie Stoppeln. (5Mo 33,26; Ps 59,13; Jes 5,24; Nah 1,10) 8 Durch den Hauch deines Zorns türmte das Wasser sich auf; es standen die Wogen wie ein Damm, die Fluten erstarrten mitten im Meer. (Hi 4,9; Ps 18,15) 9 Der Feind sprach: Ich will sie jagen, ich will sie ergreifen; ich will den Raub verteilen, will meine Wut an ihnen auslassen! Ich will mein Schwert ziehen, meine Hand soll sie vertilgen! (4Mo 22,4; 4Mo 22,6; Ri 5,30; Ps 14,1; Spr 1,11) 10 Du wehtest mit deinem Wind, da bedeckte sie das Meer; sie versanken wie Blei in den gewaltigen Wassern. (2Mo 15,5) 11 Wer ist dir gleich unter den Göttern, o HERR? Wer ist dir gleich, herrlich in Heiligkeit, furchtgebietend in Ruhmestaten, Wunder vollbringend? (5Mo 3,24; 1Sam 2,2; 2Chr 2,5; Ps 66,3; Ps 77,14; Ps 86,8; Jes 6,3) 12 Du strecktest deine Rechte aus, da verschlang sie die Erde. (2Mo 15,6) 13 Du leitest in deiner Gnade das Volk, das du erlöst hast; durch deine Kraft bringst du sie zu der Wohnung deines Heiligtums. (Ps 78,54; Jes 63,12) 14 Wenn das die Völker hören, so erzittern sie, Furcht ergreift die Bewohner des Philisterlandes; (5Mo 2,25) 15 es erschrecken die Fürsten Edoms, Zittern befällt die Gewaltigen Moabs; alle Einwohner Kanaans werden verzagt. (4Mo 22,3; 4Mo 23,22; 5Mo 2,4; Jos 2,9; Jos 5,1) 16 Schrecken und Furcht überfällt sie wegen deines mächtigen Armes, sodass sie erstarren wie Steine, bis dein Volk hindurchzieht, o HERR, bis dein Volk hindurchzieht, das du erworben hast! (2Mo 6,7; 2Mo 19,5; 5Mo 32,6; 2Sam 7,23; Neh 1,10; Ps 74,2; Jes 43,1; Apg 20,28) 17 Du wirst sie hineinbringen und sie einpflanzen auf dem Berg deines Erbteils, an dem Ort, den du, HERR, zu deiner Wohnung gemacht hast, zu dem Heiligtum, o HERR, das deine Hände bereitet haben! (Ps 44,2; Ps 78,54; Ps 80,8; Ps 132,13; Hes 37,27) 18 Der HERR herrscht als König für immer und ewig!« (Ps 10,16; Ps 146,10; Dan 3,33) 19 Denn die Rosse des Pharao gingen ins Meer hinein mit seinen Streitwagen und Reitern, und der HERR ließ das Meer wieder über sie kommen; die Kinder Israels aber gingen trockenen Fußes mitten durchs Meer. (Ps 20,8) 20 Und Mirjam, die Prophetin, Aarons Schwester, nahm das Tamburin in ihre Hand, und alle Frauen folgten ihr nach mit Tamburinen und im Reigen. (4Mo 26,59; Ri 4,4; Ri 11,34; 1Sam 18,6; 2Sam 6,5; 2Kön 22,14; Ps 68,26) 21 Und Mirjam antwortete ihnen [im Wechselgesang]: Singt dem HERRN, denn hoch erhaben ist er: Ross und Reiter hat er ins Meer gestürzt! (2Mo 15,1; Ps 47,7) 22 Danach ließ Mose Israel vom Schilfmeer aufbrechen, dass sie zur Wüste Sur zogen; und sie wanderten drei Tage lang in der Wüste und fanden kein Wasser. (1Mo 16,7; 1Mo 25,18) 23 Da kamen sie nach Mara; aber sie konnten das Wasser von Mara nicht trinken, denn es war sehr bitter. Daher nannte man es Mara. (4Mo 33,8; Rut 1,20) 24 Da murrte das Volk gegen Mose und sprach: Was sollen wir trinken? (2Mo 16,2; 2Mo 17,3; 4Mo 14,2; 4Mo 14,27; Ps 106,13; 1Kor 10,10; Phil 2,14) 25 Er aber schrie zum HERRN, und der HERR zeigte ihm ein Holz; das warf er ins Wasser, da wurde das Wasser süß. Dort gab er ihnen Gesetz und Recht, und dort prüfte er sie; (2Mo 16,4; 2Mo 17,4; 5Mo 8,2; Jos 24,25; Ri 2,21; Ri 3,1; 2Kön 2,21; 2Kön 4,40; Ps 50,15; Jak 1,2) 26 und er sprach: Wenn du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, eifrig gehorchen wirst und tust, was vor ihm recht ist, und seine Gebote zu Ohren fasst und alle seine Satzungen hältst, so will ich keine der Krankheiten auf dich legen, die ich auf Ägypten gelegt habe; denn ich bin der HERR, dein Arzt! (Ps 106,12; Jes 12,5; Jes 42,10; Jer 51,21; Offb 15,3) 2 Der HERR ist meine Kraft und mein Loblied; er hat mich gerettet. Er ist mein Gott, ich will ihn loben; er ist der Gott meines Vaters, ich will ihn preisen! (2Mo 3,15; 5Mo 10,21; 2Sam 22,47; Ps 18,2; Jes 12,2) 3 Der HERR ist ein mächtiger Krieger; HERR ist sein Name. (2Mo 14,14; Ps 24,8; Ps 83,19) 4 Die Streitwagen des Pharaos und sein Heer warf er ins Meer. Die besten seiner Krieger ertranken im Roten Meer. (2Mo 14,6) 5 Die Fluten bedeckten sie, wie Steine sanken sie in die Tiefe. (2Mo 14,28; Neh 9,11) 6 Deine rechte Hand, o HERR, ist voll herrlicher Kraft. Deine rechte Hand, o HERR, besiegt den Feind. (2Mo 3,20; Ps 118,15) 7 In der Größe deiner Macht vernichtest du, die sich gegen dich erheben. Deiner Zornesglut lässt du freien Lauf, sie verzehrt sie wie Feuer das Stroh. (2Mo 9,16; 2Mo 14,24; Ps 78,49) 8 Beim Hauch deines Atems[1] türmten sich die Wasser auf! Die Wasserfluten standen aufrecht wie eine Mauer; mitten im Meer erstarrten sie. (2Mo 14,22; Ps 78,13) 9 Die Feinde sagten sich: ›Wir jagen ihnen nach und holen sie ein, dann werden wir die Beute verteilen. Rächen werden wir uns an ihnen. Wir ziehen unser Schwert, unsere Hand wird sie vernichten.‹ (2Mo 14,5) 10 Beim Hauch deines Atems schlug das Meer über ihnen zusammen. Sie versanken wie Blei in den mächtigen Wogen. (2Mo 14,27) 11 Wer unter den Göttern ist wie du, o HERR? Wer ist so herrlich und heilig wie du? Wessen Taten sind so Ehrfurcht gebietend? Wer vollbringt solche Wunder? (2Mo 8,6; 5Mo 3,24; 1Sam 2,2; 2Sam 7,22; Ps 22,24; Ps 72,18; Jes 6,3; Offb 4,8) 12 Du hast deine rechte Hand ausgestreckt, und die Erde verschlang unsere Feinde. (2Mo 15,6) 13 Voller Güte hast du dieses Volk geführt, das du gerettet hast. Du hast es durch deine Macht zu deiner heiligen Wohnung geleitet. (Neh 9,12; Ps 77,16) 14 Die Völker werden es hören und zittern; die Philister werden sich fürchten. (5Mo 2,25; Hab 3,7) 15 Die Stammesfürsten von Edom werden sich entsetzen; die Herrscher von Moab werden vor Angst zittern. Die Bewohner Kanaans wird der Mut verlassen. (4Mo 22,3; 5Mo 2,4; Jos 2,11; Jos 5,1) 16 Angst und Entsetzen werden sie befallen. Wenn sie deine große Macht sehen, werden sie leblos wie ein Stein, bis dein Volk durch ihr Land gezogen sein wird, o HERR, bis das Volk durch ihr Land gezogen sein wird, das du erworben hast. 17 Du wirst sie hineinführen und auf dem Berg deines Erbbesitzes einpflanzen – an dem Ort, den du, HERR, zu deiner Wohnung machen wirst; das Heiligtum, o HERR, das deine Hände errichten werden. (2Mo 23,20; 2Mo 32,34; Ps 2,6; Ps 78,54; Jes 5,2; Jer 2,21) 18 Der HERR ist König immer und ewig!« (Ps 10,16; Ps 29,10; Jes 57,15) 19 Als nämlich die Pferde des Pharaos mitsamt den Streitwagen und Reitern ins Meer gejagt waren, ließ der HERR die Wassermassen über ihnen zusammenschlagen. Die Israeliten aber waren trockenen Fußes durch das Meer gezogen. (2Mo 14,22) 20 Dann nahm die Prophetin Mirjam, Aarons Schwester, ihr Tamburin und alle Frauen tanzten mit Tamburinen hinter ihr her. (2Mo 2,4; 4Mo 26,59; 1Sam 18,6; Ps 30,12; Ps 150,4) 21 Mirjam sang dazu: »Singt dem HERRN, denn er ist hoch erhaben; Pferde und Reiter warf er ins Meer.« (2Mo 15,1) 22 Danach führte Mose die Israeliten vom Roten Meer fort und sie zogen in die Wüste Schur. Drei Tage lang wanderten sie durch die Wüste, ohne Wasser zu finden. (4Mo 33,8; Ps 77,21; Ps 78,52) 23 Als sie nach Mara kamen, fanden sie schließlich Wasser. Doch sie konnten es nicht trinken, denn es war bitter. Deshalb erhielt der Ort den Namen Mara[2]. (4Mo 33,8; Rut 1,20) 24 Da beschwerte sich das Volk bei Mose: »Was sollen wir trinken?« (2Mo 14,11; Ps 106,13) 25 Mose rief den HERRN um Hilfe an. Da zeigte der HERR ihm ein Stück Holz. Nachdem Mose das Holz in das Wasser geworfen hatte, wurde das Wasser trinkbar. In Mara gab der HERR ihnen Vorschriften und Gesetze und stellte sie auf die Probe, (2Mo 14,10; 2Mo 16,4) 26 indem er sagte: »Hört auf mich, den HERRN, euren Gott, und lebt so, wie es mir gefällt: Befolgt meine Gebote und Vorschriften! Dann werde ich euch nicht an den Krankheiten leiden lassen, die ich über die Ägypter gebracht habe, denn ich bin der HERR, der euch gesund macht.« (2Mo 19,5; 5Mo 7,15; Ps 103,3) 27 Dann zogen sie weiter nach Elim, wo es zwölf Quellen und 70 Palmen gab. Dort am Wasser schlugen sie ihr Lager auf. (4Mo 33,9)

They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. (1Mo 16,7; 1Mo 25,18; 1Sam 15,7) 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah.[2] (Rut 1,20) 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” (2Mo 16,2; 2Mo 17,3) 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log,[3] and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. 1 Here is the song that Moses and the people of Israel sang to the LORD. They said, ‘I will sing to the LORD. He is greatly honoured. He has thrown Pharaoh’s horses and chariot drivers into the Red Sea. 2 The LORD gives me strength and protects me. He has saved me. He is my God, I will praise him. He is my father’s God, and I will honour him. 3 The LORD goes into battle. The LORD is his name. 4 He has thrown Pharaoh’s chariots and army into the Red Sea. Pharaoh’s best officers drowned in the sea. 5 The deep waters covered them. They sank to the bottom like a stone. 6 ‘LORD, your right hand was majestic and powerful. LORD, your right hand destroyed your enemies. 7 Because of your great majesty, you threw down those who opposed you. Your burning anger blazed out. It burned them up like straw. 8 The powerful blast from your nose piled up the waters. The rushing waters stood firm like a wall. The deep waters stood up in the middle of the sea. 9 ‘Your enemies boasted, “We will chase Israel and will catch them. We’ll divide up what we take from them. We’ll eat them alive. We’ll pull our swords out. Our powerful hands will destroy them.” 10 But you blew with your breath. The Red Sea covered your enemies. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11 ‘LORD, who among the gods is like you? Who is like you? You are majestic and holy. Your glory fills me with wonder. You do amazing things. 12 You reach out your right hand. The earth swallows up your enemies. 13 ‘Because your love is faithful, you will lead the people you have set free. Because you are so strong, you will guide them to the holy place where you live. 14 The nations will hear about it and tremble. Pain and suffering will take hold of the Philistines. 15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified. The leaders of Moab will tremble with fear. The people of Canaan will melt away. 16 Fear and terror will fall on them. Your powerful arm will make them as still as a stone. Then your people will pass by, LORD. Then the people you created will pass by. 17 You will bring them in. You will plant them on the mountain you gave them. LORD, you have made that place your home. Lord, your hands have made your holy place secure. 18 ‘The LORD rules for ever and ever.’ 19 Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the Red Sea. The LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the people of Israel walked through the sea on dry ground. 20 Aaron’s sister Miriam was a prophet. She took a tambourine in her hand. All the women followed her. They played tambourines and danced. 21 Miriam sang to them, ‘Sing to the LORD. He is greatly honoured. He has thrown Pharaoh’s horses and chariot drivers into the Red Sea.’ 22 Then Moses led Israel away from the Red Sea. They went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they travelled in the desert. They didn’t find any water there. 23 When they came to Marah, they couldn’t drink its water. It was bitter. That’s why the place is named Marah. 24 The people told Moses they weren’t happy with him. They said, ‘What are we supposed to drink?’ 25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD. The LORD showed him a stick. Moses threw it into the water. The water became fit to drink. There the LORD gave a ruling and instruction for the people. And there he tested them. 26 He said, ‘I am the LORD your God. Listen carefully to me. Do what is right in my eyes. Pay attention to my commands. Obey all my rules. If you do, I will not send on you any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians. I am the LORD who heals you.’ 27 The people came to Elim. It had 12 springs and 70 palm trees. They camped there near the water.
