Dostal ses do rukou svého druha. Jdi, vrhni se do bláta a naléhej na svého druha. 4 Nedopřej svým očím spánku, ani zdřímnout nedávej svým víčkům. 5 Jak gazela vytrhni se z rukou, jako ptáče z rukou čihařových. 6 Jdi k mravenci, lenochu, dívej se, jak žije, ať zmoudříš. 7 Ač nemá žádného vůdce, dozorce či vládce, 8 opatřuje si v létě pokrm, o žních sklízí svou potravu. 9 Jak dlouho, lenochu, budeš ležet? Kdy se probudíš ze svého spánku? 10 Trochu si pospíš, trochu zdřímneš, trochu složíš ruce v klín a poležíš si 11 a tvá chudoba přijde jak pobuda a tvá nouze jako ozbrojenec. 12 Ničemný člověk, muž propadlý ničemnostem, má plná ústa falše, 13 mrká očima, nohama cosi naznačuje, svými prsty ukazuje. 14 V srdci má proradnost, osnuje zlo v každém čase, vyvolává sváry. 15 Proto náhlá pohroma ho stihne, bude nenadále rozdrcen a nezhojí ho nikdo. 16 Těchto šest věcí Hospodin nenávidí a sedmá je mu ohavností: 17 přezíravé oči, zrádný jazyk, ruce, které prolévají nevinnou krev, 18 srdce osnující ničemné plány, nohy rychle spěchající za zlem, 19 křivý svědek, který šíří lži, a ten, kdo vyvolává mezi bratry sváry.

20 Dodržuj, můj synu, otcovy příkazy, a matčiným poučováním neopovrhuj. 21 Přivaž si je natrvalo k srdci, oviň si je kolem hrdla. 22 Povedou tě, kamkoli půjdeš, když budeš ležet, budou tě střežit, procitneš a budou s tebou rozmlouvat. 23 Vždyť příkaz je světlem a vyučování osvěcuje, domluvy a kárání jsou cesty k životu: 24 Budou tě střežit před špatnou ženou, před úlisným jazykem cizinky. 25 Nedychti v srdci po její kráse, ať tě svými řasami neuchvátí! 26 Nevěstce zaplatíš bochníčkem chleba, žena jiného však loví drahou duši. 27 Může si kdo shrnout do klína oheň a nespálit si šaty? 28 Což může někdo chodit po žhavém uhlí, a nepopálit si nohy? 29 Tak dopadne ten, kdo vchází k ženě svého druha; nezůstane bez trestu, kdo se jí dotkne. 30 Nepohrdá se zlodějem, že kradl, aby se nasytil, když měl hlad. 31 Je-li však přistižen, nahradí to sedmeronásobně, dá všechen majetek svého domu. 32 Kdo s ženou cizoloží, nemá rozum, k vlastní zkáze to činí. 33 Sklidí jen rány a hanbu a jeho potupa nebude smazána. 34 Neboť žárlivost rozpálí muže, ten bude v den pomsty nelítostný. 35 Nepřijme žádný dar na usmířenou, nepovolí, i kdybys sebevíc úplatků dával.
