1 Und du sollst deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Söhne mit ihm zu dir herantreten lassen aus der Mitte der Kinder Israels, damit er mir als Priester diene, Aaron und Nadab, Abihu, Eleasar und Itamar, die Söhne Aarons. (3Mo 8,2; 3Mo 8,12; 3Mo 8,28; 4Mo 18,7; 1Chr 24,1; 2Chr 26,18; Hebr 5,1) 2 Und du sollst deinem Bruder Aaron heilige Kleider anfertigen zur Ehre und zur Zierde. (2Mo 29,29; 2Mo 39,1; 3Mo 8,30; Ps 93,5; Ps 132,9; Jes 61,3; Jes 61,10; Sach 3,3; Offb 19,8) 3 Und du sollst mit allen reden, die ein weises Herz haben, die ich mit dem Geist der Weisheit erfüllt habe, dass sie dem Aaron Kleider anfertigen, um ihn zu heiligen, damit er mir als Priester diene. (2Mo 31,1) 4 Das sind aber die Kleider, die sie anfertigen sollen: ein Brustschild und ein Ephod, ein Oberkleid und einen Leibrock aus gemustertem Stoff, einen Kopfbund und einen Gürtel. So sollen sie deinem Bruder Aaron und seinen Söhnen heilige Kleider machen, damit er mir als Priester diene. (2Mo 28,6; 2Mo 28,8; 2Mo 28,15; 2Mo 28,31; 2Mo 28,39) 5 Dazu sollen sie Gold nehmen und [Garne] von blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und von Leinen. (2Mo 25,3; 2Mo 39,2) 6 Das Ephod sollen sie aus Gold herstellen und aus [Garnen von] blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und gezwirntem Leinen, in kunstvoller Arbeit. (2Mo 28,12; 2Mo 28,26; 2Mo 28,28; 2Mo 35,27; 3Mo 8,7; 1Sam 2,18; 1Sam 2,28; 1Sam 22,18; Hos 3,4; Sach 3,5) 7 Zwei verbindende Schulterstücke soll es haben an seinen beiden Enden, und so soll es verbunden werden. (2Mo 39,4) 8 Und der gewirkte Gürtel, der darauf liegt und mit dem es angebunden wird, soll von der gleichen Arbeit sein, aus dem gleichen Stoff: aus Gold, aus [Garnen] von blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und aus gezwirntem Leinen. (2Mo 28,4; 2Mo 28,27; 2Mo 29,9; 2Mo 39,29; 3Mo 8,7; 3Mo 8,13; Jes 11,3; Offb 1,13) 9 Und du sollst zwei Onyxsteine nehmen und die Namen der Söhne Israels darauf eingravieren, (1Mo 2,12; 2Mo 28,20; 2Mo 31,5; 2Mo 35,33; 5Mo 27,8; Hi 19,24; Hi 28,16; Jes 49,16; Sach 3,9; 2Kor 3,7) 10 sechs ihrer Namen auf den einen Stein und die sechs übrigen Namen auf den anderen Stein, nach ihren Geschlechtern. 11 Als Steinschneidearbeit, wie Siegelgravierungen sollst du die beiden Steine mit den Namen der Söhne Israels gravieren und sie mit Goldeinfassungen versehen. (2Mo 28,21; Sach 3,9; Eph 1,13; 2Tim 2,19; Offb 7,2) 12 Und du sollst die beiden Steine auf die Schulterstücke des Ephod heften, dass sie Steine des Gedenkens seien für die Kinder Israels; und Aaron soll ihre Namen auf seinen beiden Schultern tragen zum Gedenken vor dem HERRN. (2Mo 28,29; 2Mo 28,30; 5Mo 1,31; 5Mo 33,12; Ps 8,5; Ps 25,7; Jes 46,4; Lk 14,27; Gal 6,2) 13 Und du sollst goldene Einfassungen anfertigen, (2Mo 39,6) 14 und zwei Ketten aus reinem Gold, als Schnüre sollst du sie anfertigen, wie man Schnüre flicht, und sollst die geflochtenen Ketten an der Einfassung befestigen. (2Mo 28,24; 2Mo 39,15) 15 Das Brustschild des Rechtsspruchs[1] sollst du in kunstvoller Arbeit anfertigen, in der gleichen Arbeit wie das Ephod sollst du es anfertigen, aus Gold, aus [Garnen von] blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und gezwirntem Leinen sollst du es machen. (2Mo 28,23; 2Mo 28,30; 2Mo 39,8; 2Mo 39,15; 3Mo 8,8) 16 Viereckig soll es sein und doppelt gelegt, eine Spanne lang und eine Spanne breit. (2Mo 39,9) 17 Und du sollst es mit eingefassten Steinen besetzen, vier Reihen von Steinen; eine Reihe sei ein Rubin, ein Topas und ein Smaragd, die erste Reihe; (2Mo 39,10; Sach 9,16; Offb 21,19) 18 die zweite Reihe ein Granat, ein Saphir und ein Diamant; (2Mo 39,11) 19 die dritte Reihe ein Opal, ein Achat und ein Amethyst; (2Mo 39,12) 20 die vierte Reihe ein Chrysolith, ein Onyx und ein Jaspis. In Gold sollen sie gefasst sein bei ihrer Einsetzung. (2Mo 39,13) 21 Und es sollen zwölf dieser Steine sein, entsprechend den Namen der Söhne Israels, [einer] für jeden ihrer Namen; in Siegelgravur, ein Stein für jeden Namen der zwölf Stämme. (2Mo 28,11; 4Mo 23,21; Jos 4,8; Hl 8,6; Sach 3,9; Offb 21,12) 22 Und du sollst für das Brustschild schnurförmige Ketten anfertigen, in Flechtwerk, aus reinem Gold, (2Mo 28,14) 23 und du sollst für das Brustschild zwei goldene Ringe machen und die beiden Ringe an den beiden Enden des Brustschildes befestigen; (2Mo 28,15) 24 und mache die beiden geflochtenen Ketten aus Gold an den beiden Ringen fest, die an den beiden Enden des Brustschilds sind. (2Mo 39,17) 25 Aber die beiden anderen Enden der zwei geflochtenen Ketten sollst du an den beiden Einfassungen befestigen und sie auf die Schulterstücke des Ephod heften, an seiner Vorderseite. (2Mo 28,14; 2Mo 39,18) 26 Und stelle zwei andere goldene Ringe her und hefte sie an die anderen beiden Ecken des Brustschilds, nämlich an seinen Saum, der inwendig dem Ephod zugekehrt ist. (2Mo 39,19) 27 Und du sollst noch zwei goldene Ringe herstellen und sie auf die beiden Schulterstücke des Ephod heften, unten an seine Vorderseite, dort, wo das Ephod miteinander verbunden ist, oberhalb des gewirkten Gürtels des Ephod. (2Mo 39,20) 28 Und man soll das Brustschild mit seinen Ringen mit einer Schnur von blauem Purpur an die Ringe des Ephod knüpfen, dass es an dem gewirkten Gürtel des Ephod eng anliegt und das Brustschild sich nicht von dem Ephod loslöst. (2Mo 39,21) 29 Und Aaron soll die Namen der Söhne Israels an dem Brustschild des Rechtsspruchs auf seinem Herzen tragen, wenn er in das Heiligtum hineingeht, zum beständigen Gedenken vor dem HERRN. (2Mo 28,12) 30 Und du sollst in das Brustschild des Rechtsspruchs die Urim und Thummim[2] legen, damit sie auf dem Herzen Aarons sind, wenn er hineingeht vor den HERRN; und so soll Aaron den Rechtsspruch der Kinder Israels beständig auf seinem Herzen tragen vor den HERRN. (2Mo 28,12; 3Mo 8,8; 4Mo 27,21; 5Mo 33,8; 1Sam 28,6; 1Sam 29,7; 2Sam 5,19; 2Sam 5,23; Esr 2,63; Hebr 9,24) 31 Und mache das Obergewand zum Ephod ganz aus blauem Purpur. (2Mo 39,22; 1Sam 2,19) 32 Und oben in der Mitte soll eine Öffnung für den Kopf sein und ein Saum um die Öffnung her, in Weberarbeit, wie der Saum eines Panzerhemds, damit es nicht zerreißt. (2Mo 39,23; 3Mo 10,6; 3Mo 21,10; Joh 19,23) 33 Und [unten], an seinem Saum, sollst du ringsum Granatäpfel anbringen aus blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und ringsum goldene Schellen zwischen ihnen; (2Mo 28,15; 2Mo 39,24) 34 es soll eine goldene Schelle sein, danach ein Granatapfel, und wieder eine goldene Schelle, danach ein Granatapfel, ringsum an dem Saum des Obergewandes. (2Mo 39,25; Ps 89,16; Hl 4,3; Hl 4,13; Hl 6,7; Hl 6,11) 35 Und Aaron soll es tragen, wenn er dient, und sein Klang soll gehört werden, wenn er in das Heiligtum hineingeht vor den HERRN und wenn er hinausgeht, damit er nicht stirbt. 36 Du sollst auch ein Stirnblatt aus reinem Gold anfertigen und in Siegelgravur eingravieren: »Heilig dem HERRN«; (2Mo 19,6; 2Mo 39,30; 3Mo 8,9; Ps 93,5; Sach 14,20; 1Petr 1,16; Offb 7,3; Offb 14,1; Offb 22,4) 37 und du sollst es anheften mit einer Schnur von blauem Purpur, sodass es am Kopfbund ist; vorn am Kopfbund soll es sein; 38 und es soll auf Aarons Stirn sein, damit Aaron die Verschuldung in Bezug auf die heiligen Gaben trage, welche die Kinder Israels darbringen, bei allen ihren heiligen Gaben. Und es soll allezeit auf seiner Stirn sein, um sie wohlgefällig zu machen vor dem HERRN. (3Mo 10,17; 4Mo 18,1; Jes 53,6; Joh 1,29; 2Kor 5,21; Hebr 9,28; 1Petr 2,24) 39 Und webe den Leibrock aus gemustertem Leinen, und fertige einen Kopfbund aus Leinen an, und mache einen Gürtel in Buntwirkerarbeit. (2Mo 28,37; 2Mo 29,5; 2Mo 29,6; 2Mo 39,27; 2Mo 39,28; 3Mo 8,7; 3Mo 8,9; Hes 44,17; Sach 3,5) 40 Mache auch den Söhnen Aarons Leibröcke, und fertige für sie Gürtel an, und mache ihnen hohe Kopfbedeckungen zur Ehre und zur Zierde. (2Mo 39,27; Hes 44,17) 41 Und du sollst sie deinem Bruder Aaron anlegen und auch seinen Söhnen, und sie salben und ihre Hände füllen[3] und sie heiligen, dass sie mir als Priester dienen. (2Mo 28,3; 2Mo 29,1; 2Mo 29,7; 2Mo 29,44; 2Mo 30,30; 2Mo 40,14; 3Mo 8,1; 3Mo 8,12; 3Mo 10,7; 3Mo 21,10; Ps 23,5; Ps 92,11; Ps 110,4; Jes 61,1; Lk 3,21; Apg 10,38; Hebr 5,6; Hebr 7,17; Hebr 7,21; 1Joh 2,20) 42 Und du sollst ihnen leinene Beinkleider machen, um das Fleisch der Blöße zu bedecken, von den Hüften bis an die Schenkel sollen sie reichen. (3Mo 6,3; 3Mo 16,4; Hes 44,18; Offb 3,18) 43 Und Aaron und seine Söhne sollen sie tragen, wenn sie in die Stiftshütte hineingehen oder wenn sie dem Altar nahen, zum Dienst am Heiligtum, damit sie keine Schuld auf sich laden und nicht sterben müssen. Das soll eine ewige Ordnung sein für ihn und seinen Samen nach ihm! (2Mo 20,26; 2Mo 27,21; 3Mo 22,9; 4Mo 18,22)

1 Ruf deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Söhne Nadab, Abihu, Eleasar und Itamar zu dir. Ich habe sie aus dem Volk der Israeliten ausgewählt, damit sie mir als Priester dienen sollen. (2Mo 24,1; 4Mo 18,7; Ps 99,6; Hebr 5,1) 2 Lass für deinen Bruder Aaron heilige Kleider anfertigen, prächtige und würdevolle Gewänder. (2Mo 29,5; 2Mo 31,10; 3Mo 8,7; 4Mo 20,26) 3 Beauftrage diejenigen, die ich dafür begabt habe, mit der Anfertigung von Aarons Gewändern. In diesen Gewändern soll Aaron dann zum Priester geweiht werden und mir dienen. 4 Sie sollen die Brusttasche, den Priesterschurz, das Obergewand, das gewebte Untergewand, den Turban und den Gürtel anfertigen. In diesen heiligen Kleidern sollen Aaron und seine Nachfolger mir als Priester dienen. 5 Zur Herstellung sollen sie Gold, violettes, purpur- und karmesinfarbenes Garn und feines Leinen verwenden. (2Mo 25,3) 6 Den Priesterschurz sollen sie aus Gold, violettem, purpur- und karmesinfarbenem Garn und feinem Leinen kunstvoll weben. (2Mo 39,1) 7 Er soll zwei Schulterstücke haben, mithilfe derer das Vorder- und das Rückenteil zusammengefügt werden. 8 Der Gürtel, mit dem der Schurz zusammengehalten wird, soll aus den gleichen Materialien sein: Goldfäden, violettem, purpur- und karmesinfarbenem Garn und feinem Leinen. Der Gürtel und der Schurz sollen aus einem Stück gewebt sein. 9 Nimm zwei Onyx-Steine und graviere darauf die Namen der Stämme Israels ein. 10 Sechs Namen sollen auf jedem Stein stehen, und zwar in der Reihenfolge, in der die Stammväter geboren wurden. 11 Graviere die Namen der Söhne Israels in Steinschneidearbeit in die Steine, so wie es die Siegelstecher tun. Fasse die Steine mit Gold ein. 12 Befestige dann die beiden Steine auf den Schulterstücken des Priesterschurzes als Steine des Gedenkens an die Israeliten. Aaron soll diese Namen auf seinen Schultern tragen, damit ich, der HERR, mich an sie erinnere. (2Mo 39,7) 13 Lass Einfassungen 14 und zwei gedrehte Ketten aus reinem Gold herstellen und befestige die Ketten anschließend an den Einfassungen. 15 Fertige dann die Brusttasche[1] an, in der die Lose aufbewahrt werden. Verwende dazu die gleichen Materialien wie für den Priesterschurz: Gold, violettes, purpur- und karmesinfarbenes Garn und feines Leinen. (2Mo 39,1) 16 Die Brusttasche soll quadratisch sein, jede Seite eine Spanne[2] breit; den Stoff sollst du zu diesem Zweck doppelt legen. 17 Lass die Tasche mit vier Reihen Edelsteinen[3] besetzen. Die erste Reihe soll aus einem Karneol, einem Topas und einem Smaragd bestehen. (2Mo 39,10) 18 Die zweite Reihe aus einem Rubin, einem Saphir und einem Diamanten. 19 Die dritte Reihe aus einem Hyazinth, einem Achat und einem Amethyst. 20 Und die vierte Reihe soll aus einem Chrysolith, einem Onyx und einem Jaspis bestehen. Sämtliche Steine sollen mit Gold eingefasst werden. 21 Jeder Stein steht für einen Stamm Israels. Auf jedem Stein soll mithilfe von Siegelstecherkunst einer der zwölf Stammesnamen eingraviert werden. (2Mo 39,14) 22 An der Brusttasche sollst du die gedrehten Ketten aus reinem Gold anbringen. 23 Mach dazu zwei goldene Ringe und befestige sie an den oberen Ecken der Brusttasche. 24 Zwei Enden der beiden goldenen Ketten sollen dann an diesen Ringen, (2Mo 39,17) 25 die anderen Enden an den beiden goldenen Einfassungen befestigt werden. Diese ihrerseits werden an der Vorderseite der Schulterstücke des Priesterschurzes angebracht. 26 Fertige dann zwei weitere goldene Ringe an und befestige sie an den beiden unteren Ecken der Brusttasche, und zwar auf der Innenseite, die dem Priesterschurz zugewandt ist. (2Mo 39,17) 27 Fertige danach noch zwei goldene Ringe an und befestige sie unten an den Schulterstücken des Priesterschurzes, vorne dicht über dem Gürtel, der den Priesterschurz zusammenhält. 28 Die Brusttasche mit ihren Ringen soll nun mit violetten Purpurschnüren an den Ringen des Priesterschurzes befestigt werden, sodass sie über dem Gürtel sitzt und nicht verrutschen kann. 29 Auf diese Weise soll Aaron die Namen der Stämme Israels auf der Brusttasche[4] auf seinem Herzen tragen, wenn er in die Gegenwart des HERRN im Heiligtum tritt. So wird der HERR immer an sein Volk erinnert. (2Mo 28,12) 30 In der Brusttasche sollen die Lose[5] aufbewahrt werden, damit Aaron sie bei sich trägt, wenn er vor den HERRN tritt. Mithilfe der beiden Lose erfährt er den Willen Gottes und kann so Entscheidungen für die Israeliten treffen. (3Mo 8,8; 4Mo 27,21) 31 Das Obergewand zum Priesterschurz sollst du ganz aus violettem Garn anfertigen, (2Mo 39,1) 32 mit einer Öffnung für Aarons Kopf in der Mitte. Die Öffnung soll durch einen gewebten Kragen[6] verstärkt werden, um das Einreißen zu verhindern – ähnlich wie bei einem Panzerhemd. 33 Unten an seinem Saum sollst du Granatäpfel aus violettem, purpur- und karmesinfarbenem Garn anbringen, mit goldenen Glöckchen dazwischen. 34 Die goldenen Glöckchen und Granatäpfel sollen abwechselnd rings um den ganzen Saum angebracht werden. 35 Dieses Gewand soll Aaron tragen, wenn er seinen Dienst verrichtet. Jedes Mal, wenn er das Heiligtum betritt und jedes Mal, wenn er es wieder verlässt, soll man die Glöckchen klingeln hören, damit er nicht stirbt. 36 Dann sollst du ein Stirnblatt aus reinem Gold anfertigen und darauf mithilfe der Siegelstecherkunst die folgenden Worte eingravieren: »Dem HERRN geweiht«. (2Mo 39,30; 3Mo 8,9) 37 Dieses Stirnblatt soll mit einer violetten Schnur vorn an Aarons Turban befestigt werden. 38 Aaron soll es auf seiner Stirn tragen und so die Schuld aller eventuellen Fehler an den heiligen Opfergaben der Israeliten auf sich nehmen. Er soll es immer tragen, damit der HERR sie annimmt. (3Mo 10,17; 3Mo 22,16; 4Mo 18,1; Hebr 9,28; 1Petr 2,24) 39 Das Untergewand soll gemustert und aus feinem Leinen gewebt sein. Lass für Aaron einen Turban aus Leinen anfertigen sowie einen bunten, gewebten Gürtel. 40 Lass auch für Aarons Söhne Untergewänder, Gürtel und Kopfbedeckungen herstellen, die ihnen Würde verleihen und ihnen Achtung beim Volk verschaffen. (2Mo 39,27; 3Mo 8,13) 41 Zieh Aaron und seinen Söhnen diese Gewänder an. Danach sollst du sie salben, sie in ihr Amt einsetzen und sie weihen, damit sie mir als Priester dienen. (2Mo 29,7; 3Mo 8,1; Hebr 7,28) 42 Mach ihnen auch leinene Beinkleider, die von der Hüfte bis zu den Oberschenkeln reichen, damit sie unter ihren Gewändern nicht nackt sind. (3Mo 6,3; 3Mo 16,4; Hes 44,18) 43 Diese sollen sie immer tragen, wenn sie das Heiligtum betreten oder sich dem Altar davor nähern, um ihren Dienst auszuüben. So werden sie keine Schuld auf sich laden und nicht sterben. Diese Anordnung gilt für Aaron und seine Nachkommen für alle Zeiten. (2Mo 20,26; 2Mo 27,21)

You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree. 12 And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance. (2Mo 28,29; 4Mo 16,40; Jos 4,7; Sach 6,14) 13 You shall make settings of gold filigree, 14 and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings. 15 “You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it—of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen shall you make it. (2Mo 39,8) 16 It shall be square and doubled, a span[1] its length and a span its breadth. 17 You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius,[2] topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row; (Hes 28,13; Offb 21,19) 18 and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; 19 and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold filigree. 21 There shall be twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes. 22 You shall make for the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold. 23 And you shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the two edges of the breastpiece. 24 And you shall put the two cords of gold in the two rings at the edges of the breastpiece. 25 The two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings of filigree, and so attach it in front to the shoulder pieces of the ephod. 26 You shall make two rings of gold, and put them at the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inside edge next to the ephod. 27 And you shall make two rings of gold, and attach them in front to the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, at its seam above the skillfully woven band of the ephod. (2Mo 28,8) 28 And they shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, so that it may lie on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, so that the breastpiece shall not come loose from the ephod. 29 So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord. Thus Aaron shall bear the judgment of the people of Israel on his heart before the Lord regularly. (2Mo 39,22) 32 It shall have an opening for the head in the middle of it, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening in a garment,[3] so that it may not tear. 33 On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, around its hem, with bells of gold between them, 34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, around the hem of the robe. 35 And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die. 36 “You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the Lord.’ (3Mo 8,9; Sach 14,20) 37 And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban. 38 It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall bear any guilt from the holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord. You shall make them for glory and beauty. (2Mo 28,2; 2Mo 39,27; 2Mo 39,41; Hes 44,17) 41 And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. (2Mo 29,7; 2Mo 29,9; 2Mo 30,30; 2Mo 40,13; 2Mo 40,15; 3Mo 10,7; 3Mo 21,10; Hebr 7,28) 42 You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs; (3Mo 6,10; 3Mo 16,4; Hes 44,18) 43 and they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they bear guilt and die. 1 ‘Let your brother Aaron be brought to you from among the Israelites. His sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar must also be brought. They will serve me as priests. 2 Make sacred clothes for your brother Aaron. When he is wearing them, people will honour him. They will have respect for him. 3 Speak to all the skilled workers. I have given them the skill to do this kind of work. Tell them to make clothes for Aaron. He will wear them when he is set apart to serve me as priest. 4 The workers must make a chest cloth, a linen apron and an outer robe. They must also make an inner robe, a turban and a belt. They must make sacred clothes for your brother Aaron and his sons. Then they will serve me as priests. 5 Make the workers use thin gold wire, and blue, purple and bright red yarn, and fine linen. 6 ‘Make the linen apron out of thin gold wire, and out of blue, purple and bright red yarn, and out of finely twisted linen. Have a skilled worker make it. 7 It must have two shoulder straps joined to two of its corners. 8 Its skilfully made waistband must be like the apron. The waistband must be part of the apron itself. Make the waistband out of thin gold wire, and out of blue, purple and bright red yarn, and out of finely twisted linen. 9 ‘Get two onyx stones. Carve the names of the sons of Israel on them. 10 Arrange them in the order of their birth. Carve six names on one stone and six on the other. 11 Carve the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a jewel cutter would carve them. Then put the stones in fancy gold settings. 12 Connect them to the shoulder straps of the linen apron. The stones will stand for the sons of Israel. Aaron must carry the names on his shoulders as a constant reminder while he is serving the LORD. 13 Make fancy gold settings. 14 Make two braided chains out of pure gold. Make them like ropes. Join the chains to the settings. 15 ‘Make a chest cloth that will be used for making decisions. Have a skilled worker make it. Make it like the linen apron. Use thin gold wire, and blue, purple and bright red yarn, and finely twisted linen. 16 Make it 25 centimetres square. Fold it in half. 17 Put four rows of valuable jewels on it. Put carnelian, chrysolite and beryl in the first row. 18 Put turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald in the second row. 19 Put jacinth, agate and amethyst in the third row. 20 And put topaz, onyx and jasper in the fourth row. Put them in fancy gold settings. 21 Use a total of 12 stones. Use one for each of the names of the sons of Israel. Each stone must be carved with the name of one of the 12 tribes. 22 ‘Make braided chains out of pure gold for the chest cloth. Make them like ropes. 23 Make two gold rings for the chest cloth. Connect them to two corners of it. 24 Join the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the chest cloth. 25 Join the other ends of the chains to the two settings. Join them to the shoulder straps on the front of the linen apron. 26 Make two gold rings. Connect them to the other two corners of the chest cloth. Put them on the inside edge next to the apron. 27 Make two more gold rings. Connect them to the bottom of the shoulder straps on the front of the apron. Put them close to the seam. Put them right above the waistband of the apron. 28 The rings of the chest cloth must be tied to the rings of the apron. Tie them to the waistband with blue cord. Then the chest cloth will not swing out from the linen apron. 29 ‘When Aaron enters the Holy Room, he will carry the names of the sons of Israel over his heart. Their names will be on the chest cloth of decision. They will be a continuing reminder while he is serving the LORD. 30 Also put the Urim and Thummim into the chest cloth. Then they will be over Aaron’s heart when he comes to serve the LORD. In that way, Aaron will always have what he needs to make decisions for the people of Israel. He will carry the Urim and Thummim over his heart while he is serving the LORD. 31 ‘Make the outer robe of the linen apron completely out of blue cloth. 32 In the centre of the robe, make an opening for the head of the priest. Make an edge like a collar around the opening. Then it will not tear. 33 Make pomegranates out of blue, purple and bright red yarn. Sew them around the hem of the robe. Sew gold bells between them. 34 Sew a gold bell between every two pomegranates all around the hem of the robe. 35 Aaron must wear the robe when he serves as priest. The bells will jingle when he enters the Holy Room while he is serving the LORD. And they will jingle when he goes out. Then he will not die. 36 ‘Make a plate out of pure gold. Carve words on it as if it were an official seal. Carve the words Set apart for the LORD. 37 Tie the plate to the front of the turban with a blue cord. 38 Aaron must wear this plate on his forehead all the time. He will be held responsible for all the sacred gifts the Israelites set apart. Then the LORD will accept the gifts. 39 ‘Make the inner robe out of fine linen. And make the turban out of fine linen. The belt must be made by a person who sews skilfully. 40 Make inner robes, belts and caps for Aaron’s sons. When they are wearing them, people will honour his sons. They will also have respect for them. 41 Put all these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons. Then pour olive oil on them and prepare them to serve me. Set them apart to serve me as priests. 42 ‘Make linen underwear that reaches from the waist to the thigh. 43 Aaron and the priests in his family line must wear it when they enter the tent of meeting. They must also wear it when they approach the altar to serve in the Holy Room. Then they will not be found guilty and die. ‘For all time to come, that will be a law for Aaron and the priests in his family line.
