1 Und nun, Israel, höre auf die Satzungen und auf die Rechtsbestimmungen, die ich euch zu tun lehre, damit ihr lebt und hineinkommt und das Land in Besitz nehmt, das euch der HERR, der Gott eurer Väter, gibt. (3Mo 18,5; 3Mo 19,37; 5Mo 8,1; 5Mo 11,8; Jos 1,8; Ps 81,9; Ps 119,4; Jes 48,18; Hes 20,11; Röm 10,5) 2 Ihr sollt nichts hinzufügen zu dem Wort, das ich euch gebiete, und sollt auch nichts davon wegnehmen, damit ihr die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, haltet, die ich euch gebiete. (3Mo 22,31; Jos 1,7; Spr 30,6; Mt 5,19; Offb 22,18) 3 Eure Augen haben gesehen, was der HERR wegen des Baal-Peor getan hat. Denn alle, die dem Baal-Peor nachfolgten, hat der HERR, dein Gott, aus deiner Mitte vertilgt! (4Mo 25,1; Jos 22,17) 4 Aber ihr, die ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, anhingt, lebt alle heute noch. (4Mo 14,24; Jos 23,8; 1Kor 6,17) 5 Siehe, ich habe euch Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen gelehrt, so wie es mir der HERR, mein Gott, geboten hat, damit ihr nach ihnen handelt in dem Land, in das ihr kommen werdet, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. (1Sam 12,23; Esr 7,10; Joh 15,15; Apg 20,27; 2Thess 2,15) 6 So bewahrt sie nun und tut sie; denn darin besteht eure Weisheit und euer Verstand vor den Augen der Völker. Wenn sie alle diese Gebote hören, werden sie sagen: Wie ist doch dieses große Volk ein so weises und verständiges Volk! (Hi 28,28; Ps 19,8; Ps 119,98; Spr 1,5) 7 Denn wo ist ein so großes Volk, zu dem sich die Götter so nahen, wie der HERR, unser Gott, es tut, so oft wir ihn anrufen? (Ps 145,18; Joh 14,23) 8 Und wo ist ein so großes Volk, das so gerechte Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen hätte, wie dieses ganze Gesetz, das ich euch heute vorlege? (Neh 9,13; Ps 147,19) 9 Nur hüte dich und bewahre deine Seele wohl, dass du die Geschehnisse nicht vergisst, die deine Augen gesehen haben, und dass sie nicht aus deinem Herzen weichen alle Tage deines Lebens; sondern du sollst sie deinen Kindern und Kindeskindern verkünden! (1Mo 18,19; Jos 23,11; Ps 78,4; Ps 78,7; Spr 4,21; Spr 4,23; Lk 12,48; Eph 6,4; Hebr 2,1) 10 An dem Tag, als du vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, standest am [Berg] Horeb, als der HERR zu mir sprach: »Versammle mir das Volk, damit ich sie meine Worte hören lasse, und damit sie mich fürchten lernen alle Tage ihres Lebens auf Erden, und damit sie auch ihre Kinder unterweisen!«, (2Mo 19,9; 2Mo 20,1; 5Mo 5,29; Pred 12,13) 11 da tratet ihr herzu und standet unten am Berg. Aber der Berg brannte im Feuer bis ins Innerste des Himmels hinein, [der voller] Finsternis, Wolken und Dunkel [war]. (2Mo 19,18; Hebr 12,18) 12 Und der HERR redete mit euch mitten aus dem Feuer. Die Stimme seiner Worte hörtet ihr, aber ihr saht keine Gestalt, sondern [vernahmt] nur die Stimme. (2Mo 20,22) 13 Und er verkündigte euch seinen Bund, den er euch zu halten gebot, nämlich die zehn Worte; und er schrieb sie auf zwei steinerne Tafeln. (2Mo 31,18; 5Mo 5,2) 14 Und der HERR gebot mir zu jener Zeit, dass ich euch die Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen lehre, die ihr tun sollt in dem Land, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. (5Mo 4,5; Joh 13,17) 15 So bewahrt nun eure Seelen wohl, weil ihr keinerlei Gestalt gesehen habt an dem Tag, als der HERR aus dem Feuer heraus mit euch redete auf dem Berg Horeb, (5Mo 4,9; 5Mo 4,23; Spr 4,23; Spr 4,27) 16 damit ihr nicht verderblich handelt und euch ein Bildnis macht in der Gestalt irgendeines Götzenbildes, das Abbild eines männlichen oder weiblichen Wesens, (2Mo 20,4; 2Mo 32,7; Ri 2,13; 1Sam 5,2; Jes 40,18; Röm 1,23) 17 das Abbild irgendeines Tieres, das auf Erden ist, das Abbild irgendeines Vogels, der am Himmel fliegt, (2Mo 20,4; Apg 19,35; Röm 1,23) 18 das Abbild irgendeines Wesens, das auf dem Erdboden kriecht, das Abbild irgendeines Fisches, der im Wasser ist, tiefer als die Erdoberfläche; 19 dass du deine Augen auch nicht zum Himmel hebst und die Sonne und den Mond und die Sterne und das ganze Heer des Himmels anschaust und dich verführen lässt, sie anzubeten und ihnen zu dienen, die doch der HERR, dein Gott, allen Völkern unter dem ganzen Himmel zugeteilt hat. (1Mo 1,14; 2Kön 17,16; Hi 31,26; Jer 8,2; Zef 1,5) 20 Euch aber hat der HERR genommen und herausgeführt aus dem Eisenschmelzofen, aus Ägypten, damit ihr sein Eigentumsvolk sein solltet, wie es heute der Fall ist. (2Mo 19,5; 1Kön 8,51; Ps 33,12) 21 Und der HERR war um euretwillen so zornig über mich, dass er schwor, ich sollte nicht über den Jordan gehen noch in das gute Land kommen, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir als Erbe gibt; (5Mo 1,37) 22 sondern ich muss in diesem Land sterben und darf nicht über den Jordan gehen; ihr aber dürft hinübergehen und jenes gute Land in Besitz nehmen. (5Mo 3,27; 1Kön 13,21; Am 3,2; 2Petr 1,13) 23 So hütet euch nun, dass ihr den Bund des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht vergesst, den er mit euch gemacht hat, und euch nicht ein Bildnis macht von irgendeiner Gestalt, was der HERR, dein Gott, dir verboten hat! (5Mo 4,13; 5Mo 4,15) 24 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein verzehrendes Feuer, ein eifersüchtiger Gott. (2Mo 24,17; 2Mo 32,14; 5Mo 5,9; 5Mo 6,15; 5Mo 9,3; 5Mo 32,22; Zef 1,18) 25 Wenn du nun Kinder und Kindeskinder zeugst und ihr euch in dem Land eingelebt habt und verderblich handelt und euch ein Bildnis macht von irgendeiner Gestalt und das tut, was böse ist in den Augen des HERRN, eures Gottes, dass ihr ihn erzürnt, (5Mo 4,16; 5Mo 29,18; Ri 2,11; Ps 78,58; Jer 10,14; 1Kor 10,22) 26 so rufe ich heute Himmel und Erde zu Zeugen gegen euch an, dass ihr gewiss bald ausgerottet werden sollt aus dem Land, in das ihr über den Jordan zieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen; ihr werdet nicht lange darin wohnen, sondern gewiss [daraus] vertilgt werden! (5Mo 30,19; Jos 23,16; Jes 1,2) 27 Und der HERR wird euch unter die Völker zerstreuen, und es wird eine geringe Zahl von euch übrig bleiben unter den Heiden, zu denen euch der HERR hinwegtreiben wird. (3Mo 26,33; Neh 1,8) 28 Dort werdet ihr den Göttern dienen, die das Werk von Menschenhänden sind, Holz und Stein, die weder sehen noch hören noch essen noch riechen. (Ps 115,4; Jes 44,9; Jer 10,5; Jer 16,13) 29 Wenn du aber von dort den HERRN, deinen Gott, suchen wirst, so wirst du ihn finden, ja, wenn du ihn von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele suchen wirst. (Jer 29,13; Mt 7,7) 30 Wenn du in der Drangsal bist und dich alle diese Dinge getroffen haben am Ende der Tage, so wirst du zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, umkehren und seiner Stimme gehorsam sein. (3Mo 26,40; 5Mo 30,1; Jer 3,12; Hos 3,5; Joe 2,12) 31 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein barmherziger Gott; er wird dich nicht verlassen noch verderben; er wird auch den Bund, den er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, nicht vergessen. (2Mo 34,6; 3Mo 26,42; Neh 9,31; Ps 106,44; Ps 116,5) 32 Denn frage doch nach den früheren Tagen, die vor dir gewesen sind, von dem Tag an, als Gott den Menschen auf Erden erschuf, und von einem Ende des Himmels bis zum anderen Ende des Himmels, ob je etwas so Großes geschehen oder je dergleichen gehört worden ist: (Neh 1,9; Hi 8,8; Ps 19,7) 33 Hat je ein Volk die Stimme Gottes mitten aus dem Feuer reden gehört, wie du sie gehört hast, und ist dennoch am Leben geblieben? (5Mo 5,22) 34 Oder hat je ein Gott versucht, hinzugehen und sich ein Volk mitten aus einem anderen Volk herauszunehmen durch Prüfungen, durch Zeichen, durch Wunder, durch Kampf und durch eine mächtige Hand und durch einen ausgestreckten Arm und durch furchterregende, große Taten, wie das alles der HERR, euer Gott, für euch in Ägypten getan hat vor deinen Augen? (2Mo 6,6; 5Mo 7,18; Ps 136,11) 35 Dir ist es gezeigt worden, damit du erkennst, dass der HERR Gott ist, und keiner sonst als er allein. (2Mo 15,11; 5Mo 4,39; 5Mo 7,9; Jes 43,10) 36 Er hat dich vom Himmel her seine Stimme hören lassen, um dich zu unterweisen; und auf Erden hat er dir sein großes Feuer gezeigt, und du hast seine Worte mitten aus dem Feuer gehört. (2Mo 19,9; Neh 9,13; Hebr 12,18) 37 Und weil er deine Väter liebte und ihren Samen[1] nach ihnen erwählt hat, hat er dich mit seinem Angesicht durch seine große Kraft aus Ägypten herausgeführt, (5Mo 4,20; 5Mo 7,7; Jer 31,3; Mal 1,2; Röm 11,28) 38 um größere und stärkere Völker, als du es bist, vor dir her zu vertreiben, und um dich herzubringen und dir ihr Land zum Erbteil zu geben, wie es heute der Fall ist. (2Chr 20,7; Ps 44,3) 39 So sollst du nun heute erkennen und es dir zu Herzen nehmen, dass der HERR der alleinige Gott ist oben im Himmel und unten auf Erden, und keiner sonst. (5Mo 4,35; Jos 2,11; 2Chr 20,6) 40 Darum halte seine Satzungen und seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete, damit es dir und deinen Kindern nach dir gut geht, und damit du lange lebst in dem Land, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt, für alle Zeiten! (2Mo 20,12; 3Mo 22,31; 5Mo 5,16; 5Mo 5,29; Ps 1,1; Ps 119,1) 41 Damals sonderte Mose drei Städte aus, auf der anderen Seite des Jordan, gegen Sonnenaufgang, (4Mo 35,14) 42 damit der Totschläger dorthin fliehen könne, der seinen Nächsten unabsichtlich getötet hat, ohne ihn zuvor gehasst zu haben, dass er in eine dieser Städte fliehe und am Leben bleibe, (2Mo 21,12; 5Mo 19,2) 43 nämlich Bezer in der Steppe, im Land der Ebene, für die Rubeniter, Ramot in Gilead für die Gaditer und Golan in Baschan für die Manassiter. (Jos 20,8; Jos 21,27; Jos 21,38; 1Chr 6,56; 1Chr 6,65; 1Chr 7,37) 44 Und dies ist das Gesetz, das Mose den Kindern Israels vorlegte; (3Mo 27,34; 4Mo 36,13; Mal 3,22; Joh 1,17) 45 das sind die Zeugnisse, die Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen, die Mose den Kindern Israels verkündigte, als sie aus Ägypten zogen, (5Mo 6,17; 5Mo 6,20; Ps 119,5) 46 auf der anderen Seite des Jordan, im Tal, Beth-Peor gegenüber, im Land Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der in Hesbon wohnte, den Mose und die Kinder Israels schlugen, als sie aus Ägypten zogen, (4Mo 21,23; 5Mo 1,4; 5Mo 3,29; 5Mo 34,6; Jos 13,20) 47 und dessen Land sie in Besitz nahmen, samt dem Land Ogs, des Königs von Baschan, der beiden Könige der Amoriter, die jenseits des Jordan waren, gegen Sonnenaufgang, (4Mo 21,33) 48 von Aroer an, das am Ufer des Arnonflusses liegt, bis an den Berg Sion, das ist der Hermon, (5Mo 2,36; 5Mo 3,8) 49 und die ganze Ebene jenseits des Jordan, gegen Osten, bis an das Meer der Arava[2] unterhalb der Abhänge des Pisga. (5Mo 3,17; 5Mo 34,1; Jos 13,20)

1 Und nun höre, Israel, die Gebote und Rechte, die ich euch lehre, dass ihr sie tun sollt, auf dass ihr lebt und hineinkommt und das Land einnehmt, das euch der HERR, der Gott eurer Väter, gibt. 2 Ihr sollt nichts dazutun zu dem, was ich euch gebiete, und sollt auch nichts davontun, auf dass ihr bewahrt die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, die ich euch gebiete. (5Mo 13,1; Spr 30,6; Offb 22,18) 3 Eure Augen haben gesehen, was der HERR getan hat bei Baal-Peor[1]; denn jeden, der dem Baal-Peor folgte, hat der HERR, dein Gott, vertilgt aus eurer Mitte. (4Mo 25,3) 4 Aber ihr, die ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, anhinget, lebt alle heute noch. 5 Sieh, ich habe euch gelehrt Gebote und Rechte, wie mir der HERR, mein Gott, geboten hat, dass ihr danach tun sollt im Lande, in das ihr kommen werdet, um es einzunehmen. 6 So haltet sie nun und tut sie! Denn darin zeigt sich den Völkern eure Weisheit und euer Verstand. Wenn sie alle diese Gebote hören werden, dann müssen sie sagen: Was für weise und verständige Leute sind das, ein herrliches Volk! (Jes 2,3) 7 Denn wo ist so ein herrliches Volk, dem Götter so nahe sind wie uns der HERR, unser Gott, sooft wir ihn anrufen? (2Sam 7,23) 8 Und wo ist so ein großes Volk, das so gerechte Ordnungen und Gebote hat wie dies ganze Gesetz, das ich euch heute vorlege? (Jer 8,8) 9 Hüte dich nur und bewahre deine Seele gut, dass du nicht vergisst, was deine Augen gesehen haben, und dass es nicht aus deinem Herzen kommt dein ganzes Leben lang. Und du sollst deinen Kindern und Kindeskindern kundtun (Ps 103,2) 10 den Tag, da du vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, standest an dem Berge Horeb, als der HERR zu mir sagte: Versammle mir das Volk, dass ich sie meine Worte hören lasse und sie mich fürchten lernen alle Tage ihres Lebens auf Erden und ihre Kinder lehren. (2Mo 19,17; 5Mo 6,7) 11 Da tratet ihr herzu und standet unten an dem Berge; der Berg aber stand in Flammen bis in den Himmel hinein, und da war Finsternis, Wolken und Dunkel. 12 Und der HERR redete mit euch mitten aus dem Feuer. Den Klang der Worte hörtet ihr, aber ihr saht keine Gestalt, nur eine Stimme war da. (5Mo 5,4; 5Mo 5,24) 13 Und er verkündigte euch seinen Bund, den er euch gebot zu halten, nämlich die Zehn Worte, und schrieb sie auf zwei steinerne Tafeln. (2Mo 31,18) 14 Und der HERR gebot mir zur selben Zeit, euch Gebote und Rechte zu lehren, dass ihr danach tun sollt in dem Lande, in das ihr zieht, es einzunehmen. 15 So hütet euch um eures Lebens willen – denn ihr habt keine Gestalt gesehen an dem Tage, da der HERR mit euch redete aus dem Feuer auf dem Berge Horeb –, 16 dass ihr euch nicht versündigt und euch irgendein Bildnis macht, das gleich sei einem Mann oder einer Frau, (2Mo 20,4) 17 einem Tier auf dem Land oder Vogel unter dem Himmel, 18 dem Gewürm auf der Erde oder einem Fisch im Wasser unter der Erde. 19 Hebe auch nicht deine Augen auf zum Himmel, dass du die Sonne sehest und den Mond und die Sterne, das ganze Heer des Himmels, und fallest ab und betest sie an und dienest denen, die der HERR, dein Gott, zugewiesen hat allen Völkern unter dem ganzen Himmel. (5Mo 17,3; Röm 1,23) 20 Euch aber hat der HERR angenommen und aus dem Schmelzofen, nämlich aus Ägypten, geführt, dass ihr sein Erbvolk sein sollt, wie ihr es jetzt seid. (2Mo 19,5; 1Kön 8,51; Jes 19,25; Jes 48,10; Jer 11,4) 21 Und der HERR war so erzürnt über mich um eures Tuns willen, dass er schwor, ich sollte nicht über den Jordan gehen noch in das gute Land kommen, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, zum Erbteil geben wird, (5Mo 3,26) 22 sondern ich muss in diesem Lande sterben und werde nicht über den Jordan gehen. Ihr aber werdet hinübergehen und dies gute Land einnehmen. 23 So hütet euch nun, dass ihr den Bund des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht vergesst, den er mit euch geschlossen hat, und nicht ein Bildnis macht von irgendeiner Gestalt, wie es der HERR, dein Gott, geboten hat. 24 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein verzehrendes Feuer und ein eifernder Gott. (2Mo 20,5; 2Mo 24,17; 5Mo 9,3; Jes 10,17; Hebr 12,29) 25 Wenn du nun Kinder zeugst und Kindeskinder und ihr im Lande wohnt und versündigt euch und macht euch Bildnisse von irgendeiner Gestalt, sodass ihr übel tut vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, und ihn erzürnt, 26 so rufe ich heute Himmel und Erde zu Zeugen über euch, dass ihr bald weggerafft werdet aus dem Lande, in das ihr geht über den Jordan, um es einzunehmen. Ihr werdet nicht lange darin bleiben, sondern werdet vertilgt werden. (5Mo 30,19; 5Mo 31,28; 5Mo 32,1) 27 Und der HERR wird euch zerstreuen unter die Völker, und es wird von euch nur eine geringe Zahl übrig bleiben unter den Heiden, zu denen euch der HERR wegführen wird. 28 Dort werdet ihr Göttern dienen, die das Werk von Menschenhänden sind, Holz und Stein, die weder sehen noch hören noch essen noch riechen können. (5Mo 28,36; Ps 115,4) 29 Ihr werdet dort den HERRN, deinen Gott, suchen, und du wirst ihn finden, so du ihn von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele suchen wirst. (Ps 27,8; Jer 29,13) 30 Wenn du geängstet sein wirst und dich das alles treffen wird in künftigen Zeiten, so wirst du dich bekehren zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, und seiner Stimme gehorchen. (5Mo 30,2) 31 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein barmherziger Gott; er wird dich nicht verlassen noch verderben, wird auch den Bund nicht vergessen, den er deinen Vätern geschworen hat. 32 Denn frage nach den früheren Zeiten, die vor dir gewesen sind, von dem Tage an, da Gott den Menschen auf Erden geschaffen hat, und von einem Ende des Himmels zum andern, ob je so Großes geschehen oder desgleichen je gehört sei, 33 dass ein Volk die Stimme Gottes aus dem Feuer hat reden hören, wie du sie gehört hast, und dennoch am Leben blieb? (2Mo 20,1; 2Mo 20,19) 34 Oder ob je ein Gott versucht hat, hinzugehen und sich ein Volk mitten aus einem Volk herauszuholen durch Machtproben, durch Zeichen, durch Wunder, durch Krieg und mit starker Hand und ausgerecktem Arm und durch große Schrecken, wie das alles der HERR, euer Gott, für euch getan hat in Ägypten vor deinen Augen? (5Mo 7,19; 5Mo 29,2) 35 Du hast es sehen können, auf dass du wissest, dass der HERR allein Gott ist und sonst keiner. (5Mo 32,39) 36 Vom Himmel hat er dich seine Stimme hören lassen, um dich zurechtzubringen; und auf Erden hat er dir gezeigt sein großes Feuer, und seine Worte hast du aus dem Feuer gehört. (2Mo 20,1; 2Mo 20,18; 2Mo 20,20) 37 Weil er deine Väter geliebt und ihre Nachkommen erwählt hat, hat er dich aus Ägypten herausgeführt mit seinem Angesicht durch seine große Kraft, (2Mo 33,14) 38 damit er vor dir her Völker vertriebe, die größer und stärker sind als du, und dich hineinbrächte, um dir ihr Land zum Erbteil zu geben, wie es jetzt ist. 39 So sollst du nun heute wissen und zu Herzen nehmen, dass der HERR Gott ist oben im Himmel und unten auf Erden und sonst keiner, 40 und sollst halten seine Rechte und Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete; so wird’s dir und deinen Kindern nach dir wohlgehen und dein Leben lange währen in dem Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt für immer. 41 Da sonderte Mose drei Städte aus jenseits des Jordans gegen Sonnenaufgang, (4Mo 35,6; 5Mo 19,2) 42 damit dorthin fliehen konnte, wer seinen Nächsten totschlägt ohne Vorsatz und ihm zuvor nicht feind gewesen ist; der soll in eine dieser Städte fliehen, damit er am Leben bleibe. 43 Das sind Bezer im Wüstengebiet der Hochebene für die Rubeniter und Ramot in Gilead für die Gaditer und Golan in Baschan für die Manassiter. 44 Dies ist das Gesetz, das Mose den Israeliten vorlegte. 45 Dies sind die Ermahnungen und Gebote und Rechte, die Mose den Israeliten kundtat, als sie aus Ägypten gezogen waren, 46 jenseits des Jordans im Tal gegenüber Bet-Peor, im Lande Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu Heschbon herrschte, den Mose und die Israeliten schlugen, als sie aus Ägypten zogen. (4Mo 21,24) 47 Und sie nahmen sein Land ein, dazu das Land Ogs, des Königs von Baschan, der beiden Könige der Amoriter, die jenseits des Jordans waren gegen Sonnenaufgang, 48 von Aroër an, das am Ufer des Arnon liegt, bis an den Berg Sion, das ist der Hermon, (5Mo 3,8) 49 und das ganze Jordantal östlich des Jordans gegen Sonnenaufgang bis an das Meer der Araba am Fuße der Abhänge des Pisga.

(3Mo 18,5; 5Mo 5,1; 5Mo 30,15) 2 Ihr sollt dem Wortlaut dessen, worauf ich euch verpflichte, nichts hinzufügen und nichts davon wegnehmen; ihr sollt die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, bewahren, auf die ich euch verpflichte. (5Mo 13,1; Offb 22,18) 3 Ihr habt mit eigenen Augen gesehen, was der HERR wegen des Baal-Pegor getan hat: Jeden, der dem Baal-Pegor nachfolgte, hat der HERR, dein Gott, in deiner Mitte vernichtet. (4Mo 25,1; Ps 106,28; Hos 9,10) 4 Ihr aber habt euch am HERRN, eurem Gott, festgehalten und darum seid ihr alle heute noch am Leben. 5 Siehe, hiermit lehre ich euch, wie es mir der HERR, mein Gott, aufgetragen hat, Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide. Ihr sollt sie innerhalb des Landes halten, in das ihr hineinzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. (5Mo 12,1) 6 Ihr sollt sie bewahren und sollt sie halten. Denn darin besteht eure Weisheit und eure Bildung in den Augen der Völker. Wenn sie dieses Gesetzeswerk kennenlernen, müssen sie sagen: In der Tat, diese große Nation ist ein weises und gebildetes Volk. (1Kön 3,12; Sir 24,1) 7 Denn welche große Nation hätte Götter, die ihr so nah sind, wie der HERR, unser Gott, uns nah ist, wo immer wir ihn anrufen? (Ps 119,48; Jes 58,2; Röm 3,2; Röm 9,4) 8 Oder welche große Nation besäße Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide, die so gerecht sind wie alles in dieser Weisung, die ich euch heute vorlege? 9 Jedoch, nimm dich in Acht, achte gut auf dich! Vergiss nicht die Ereignisse, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen, und die Worte, die du gehört hast! Lass sie dein ganzes Leben lang nicht aus dem Sinn! Präge sie deinen Kindern und Kindeskindern ein! (2Mo 19,1; 5Mo 5,2) 10 Vergiss nicht den Tag, als du am Horeb vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, standest! Der HERR hatte zu mir gesagt: Ruf mir das Volk zusammen! Ich will sie meine Worte hören lassen. Sie sollen lernen, mich zu fürchten, so lange, wie sie im Land leben, und sie sollen es auch ihre Kinder lehren. (5Mo 31,13; 5Mo 32,46) 11 Ihr wart herangekommen und standet unten am Berg und der Berg brannte: Feuer, hoch bis in den Himmel hinauf, Finsternis, Wolken und Dunkel. (Hebr 12,18) 12 Der HERR sprach zu euch mitten aus dem Feuer. Eine Stimme, Worte habt ihr gehört, eine Gestalt habt ihr nicht gesehen, nur Donnerstimme war da. (Joh 1,18; Joh 5,37; Joh 6,46) 13 Der HERR verkündete euch seinen Bund: Er verpflichtete euch, die Zehn Worte zu halten, und schrieb sie auf zwei Steintafeln. 14 Mir befahl damals der HERR, euch Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide zu lehren, die ihr in dem Land halten sollt, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. 15 Nehmt euch um eures Lebens willen gut in Acht! Denn ihr habt keinerlei Gestalt gesehen an dem Tag, als der HERR am Horeb mitten aus dem Feuer zu euch sprach. (Röm 1,23) 16 Lauft nicht in euer Verderben und macht euch kein Kultbild, das irgendetwas darstellt, keine Statue, kein Abbild eines männlichen oder weiblichen Wesens, (2Mo 20,4; 2Mo 32,7; 5Mo 4,25; 5Mo 5,8; 5Mo 9,12; 5Mo 27,15; 5Mo 31,29) 17 kein Abbild irgendeines Tiers, das auf der Erde lebt, kein Abbild irgendeines gefiederten Vogels, der am Himmel fliegt, 18 kein Abbild irgendeines Tiers, das am Boden kriecht, und kein Abbild irgendeines Meerestieres im Wasser unter der Erde! 19 Wenn du die Augen zum Himmel erhebst und das ganze Himmelsheer siehst, die Sonne, den Mond und die Sterne, dann lass dich nicht verführen! Du sollst dich nicht vor ihnen niederwerfen und ihnen nicht dienen. Der HERR, dein Gott, hat sie allen Völkern unter dem ganzen Himmel zugewiesen. (5Mo 17,2; 5Mo 29,24; 5Mo 32,8; Weis 13,2) 20 Euch aber hat der HERR genommen und aus dem Schmelzofen, aus Ägypten, herausgeführt, damit ihr sein Volk, sein Erbbesitz werdet - wie ihr es heute seid. (5Mo 9,26; 1Kön 8,51; Jer 11,4) 21 Zwar hat der HERR mir wegen eures Murrens gegrollt und mir geschworen, ich dürfe nicht über den Jordan ziehen und das prächtige Land betreten, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir als Erbbesitz gibt. (5Mo 1,37) 22 Ich muss in diesem Land hier sterben und werde nicht über den Jordan ziehen. Aber ihr werdet hinüberziehen und dieses prächtige Land in Besitz nehmen. 23 Nehmt euch in Acht! Vergesst nicht den Bund, den der HERR, euer Gott, mit euch geschlossen hat! Ihr sollt euch kein Kultbild machen, das irgendetwas darstellt, was der HERR, dein Gott, dir verboten hat. (5Mo 4,16; 5Mo 29,24) 24 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist verzehrendes Feuer. Er ist ein eifersüchtiger Gott. (2Mo 20,5; 2Mo 34,14; 5Mo 5,9; 5Mo 6,15; 5Mo 32,16; 2Kor 11,2; Hebr 12,29) 25 Wenn du Kinder und Kindeskinder zeugst und ihr im Land heimisch seid, wenn ihr dann ins Verderben lauft und ein Kultbild macht, das irgendetwas darstellt, wenn ihr also tut, was in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, böse ist und wenn ihr ihn erzürnt - (5Mo 9,18; 5Mo 17,2; 5Mo 28,15; 5Mo 31,29) 26 den Himmel und die Erde rufe ich heute als Zeugen gegen euch an -, dann werdet ihr unverzüglich aus dem Land ausgetilgt sein, in das ihr jetzt über den Jordan zieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. Nicht lange werdet ihr darin leben. Ihr werdet vernichtet werden. (5Mo 30,19; 5Mo 31,28) 27 Der HERR wird euch unter die Völker verstreuen. Nur einige von euch werden übrig bleiben in den Nationen, zu denen der HERR euch führt. 28 Dort müsst ihr Göttern dienen, Machwerken von Menschenhand, aus Holz und Stein. Sie können nicht sehen und nicht hören, nicht essen und nicht riechen. (5Mo 27,15; 5Mo 28,36; Ps 115,4; Ps 135,15) 29 Dort werdet ihr den HERRN, deinen Gott, wieder suchen. Du wirst ihn auch finden, wenn du dich mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele um ihn bemühst. (5Mo 30,1; Jer 29,13) 30 Wenn du in Not bist, werden alle diese Worte dich finden. In späteren Tagen wirst du zum HERRN, deinem Gott, zurückkehren und auf seine Stimme hören. 31 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein barmherziger Gott. Er lässt dich nicht fallen und gibt dich nicht dem Verderben preis und vergisst nicht den Bund mit deinen Vätern, den er ihnen beschworen hat. (1Mo 15,18; 2Mo 34,6; 5Mo 1,8) 32 Denn forsche doch einmal in früheren Zeiten nach, die vor dir gewesen sind, seit dem Tag, als Gott den Menschen auf der Erde erschuf; forsche nach vom einen Ende des Himmels bis zum andern Ende: Hat sich je etwas so Großes ereignet wie dieses und hat man je solches gehört? 33 Hat je ein Volk mitten aus dem Feuer die donnernde Stimme eines Gottes reden gehört, wie du sie gehört hast, und ist am Leben geblieben? (2Mo 33,20; 5Mo 5,24) 34 Oder hat je ein Gott es ebenso versucht, zu einer Nation zu kommen und sie sich mitten aus einer anderen herauszuholen unter Prüfungen, unter Zeichen, Wundern und Krieg, mit starker Hand und hoch erhobenem Arm und unter großen Schrecken, wie alles, was der HERR, euer Gott, in Ägypten mit euch getan hat, vor deinen Augen? (5Mo 3,24; 5Mo 4,37; 5Mo 5,15; 5Mo 6,21; 5Mo 7,8; 5Mo 9,26; 5Mo 11,2; 5Mo 26,8; 5Mo 29,2; 5Mo 34,11) 35 Du bist es, der das hat sehen dürfen, damit du erkennst: Der HERR ist der Gott, kein anderer ist außer ihm. (2Sam 7,22; 1Kön 8,60; 1Kön 18,39; 2Kön 19,15; Jes 43,10; Jes 44,6; Jes 45,1; Jes 46,9; Mk 12,32; 1Kor 8,4) 36 Vom Himmel herab ließ er dich seine donnernde Stimme hören, um dich zu erziehen. Auf der Erde ließ er dich sein großes Feuer sehen und mitten aus dem Feuer hast du seine Worte gehört. (5Mo 4,12) 37 Weil er deine Väter lieb gewonnen hatte, hat er alle Nachkommen eines jeden von ihnen erwählt und dich dann in eigener Person durch seine große Kraft aus Ägypten geführt, (5Mo 10,15) 38 um bei deinem Angriff Völker auszurotten, die größer und mächtiger sind als du, um dich in ihr Land zu führen und es dir als Erbbesitz zu geben, wie es jetzt geschieht. (5Mo 7,17; 5Mo 9,1; 5Mo 11,23; 5Mo 18,12) 39 Heute sollst du erkennen und zuinnerst begreifen: Der HERR ist der Gott im Himmel droben und auf der Erde unten, keiner sonst. (5Mo 4,35; Jos 2,11; 1Kön 8,23) 40 Daher sollst du seine Gesetze und seine Gebote, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, bewahren, damit es dir und später deinen Nachkommen gut geht und du lange lebst in dem Land, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt für alle Zeit. 41 Damals hat Mose jenseits des Jordan, nach Osten hin, drei Städten eine Sonderstellung zugewiesen. (4Mo 35,6; 5Mo 19,1; Jos 20,1) 42 Dorthin soll jeder, der einen Menschen getötet hat, fliehen können, falls er den andern ohne Vorsatz getötet hat und nicht schon früher mit ihm verfeindet gewesen ist. Wenn er in eine dieser Städte flieht, darf er am Leben bleiben. 43 Es sind Bezer im Wüstengebiet der Hochebene für die Rubeniter, Ramot in Gilead für die Gaditer und Golan im Baschan für die Manassiter. 44 Und das ist die Weisung, die Mose den Israeliten vorgelegt hat. 45 Das sind die Eidesbestimmungen und die Gesetze und die Rechtsentscheide, die Mose den Israeliten verkündet hat, als sie aus Ägypten zogen. 46 Es geschah jenseits des Jordan, in der Talschlucht gegenüber Bet-Pegor, im Land Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der in Heschbon seinen Sitz hatte. Ihn hatten Mose und die Israeliten geschlagen, als sie aus Ägypten zogen. (5Mo 2,24) 47 Sie hatten sein Land und das Land Ogs, des Königs des Baschan, in Besitz genommen, das Land der beiden Amoriterkönige jenseits des Jordan, im Osten, 48 von Aroër am Rand des Arnontals bis zum Gebirge Sion - das ist der Hermon - 49 und die ganze Araba jenseits des Jordan nach Osten hin, bis zum Meer der Araba unterhalb der Steilhänge des Pisga.

1 “And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the rules[1] that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. (3Mo 18,4; 5Mo 6,24; 5Mo 8,1) 2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you. (5Mo 12,32; Jos 1,7; Spr 30,6; Offb 22,18; Offb 22,19) 3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at Baal-peor, for the LORD your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor. The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor, 4 but all of you who held fast to the Lord your God are still alive today. 5 See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. 6 Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ 7 What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him? 8 And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? 9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. 10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, ‘Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.’ 11 You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness. 12 Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice. 13 He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets. 14 And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. 15 You saw no form of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, 16 so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, 17 or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, 18 or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. 19 And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshipping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. 20 But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are. 21 The Lord was angry with me because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance. 22 I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land. 23 Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. 25 After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time – if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. 27 The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. 29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. 31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath. 32 Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? 33 Has any other people heard the voice of God[1] speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? 34 Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? 35 You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other. 36 From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire. 37 Because he loved your ancestors and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, 38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today. 39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. 40 Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time. 41 Then Moses set aside three cities east of the Jordan, 42 to which anyone who had killed a person could flee if they had unintentionally killed a neighbour without malice aforethought. They could flee into one of these cities and save their life. 43 The cities were these: Bezer in the wilderness plateau, for the Reubenites; Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites. 44 This is the law Moses set before the Israelites. 45 These are the stipulations, decrees and laws Moses gave them when they came out of Egypt 46 and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt. 47 They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan. 48 This land extended from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge to Mount Sirion[2] (that is, Hermon), 49 and included all the Arabah east of the Jordan, as far as the Dead Sea,[3] below the slopes of Pisgah.

1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them , that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you. 4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day. 5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. 6 Keep therefore and do them ; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for ? 8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? 9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons'sons; 10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. 11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: 16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves , and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, 18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: 19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. 20 But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. 21 Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance: 22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land. 23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing , which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. 24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. 25 When thou shalt beget children, and children' children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves , and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing , and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger: 26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed. 27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you. 28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men' hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him , if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. 30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; 31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them. 32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is , or hath been heard like it? 33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live? 34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him. 36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire. 37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt; 38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art , to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day. 39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. 40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever. 41 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising; 42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past;
