1Tem misericórdia de mim, ó Deus, pois é grande a tua bondade. Apaga a mancha terrível das minhas transgressões, pois a tua piedade é sem limites.2Lava-me completamente da minha iniquidade; purifica-me do meu pecado.3Porque reconheço as minhas transgressões, que, aliás, não saem do meu pensamento.4Foi contra ti, somente contra ti, que eu pequei e fiz essa coisa tão baixa aos teus olhos. As tuas palavras são verdadeiras e o teu julgamento é justo.5Eu nasci pecador, sim, desde o momento em que a minha mãe me concebeu.6Tu ficas satisfeito quando há verdade e sinceridade no coração. Oh! Dá-me essa sabedoria!7Purifica-me com hissopo e ficarei de novo limpo; lava-me e ficarei mais branco do que a neve.8Depois de me teres castigado, devolve-me a alegria, mais uma vez.9Não fiques lembrado dos meus pecados; apaga-os da tua vista.10Cria em mim, ó Deus, um coração limpo e dá-me um espírito renovado e firme.11Não me afastes da tua presença; não me prives do teu Santo Espírito.12Dá-me novamente a alegria da tua salvação; quero obedecer-te decididamente.13Poderei, assim, ensinar os teus caminhos aos transgressores e os pecadores voltar-se-ão para ti.14Não me condenes à morte, meu Deus. Só tu podes livrar-me! Cantarei intensamente a tua justiça.15Senhor, abre os meus lábios e a minha boca te louvará plenamente.16Tu não te satisfazes com sacrifícios, senão eu os ofereceria de bom grado. Não estás interessado em holocaustos de animais.17Para ti o verdadeiro sacrifício é um espírito rendido a teus pés e arrependido. Um coração humilhado e magoado tu não desprezarás, ó Deus.18Abençoa a Sião, segundo a tua boa vontade erige as muralhas de Jerusalém!19Então te agradarás com os holocaustos oferecidos pelos justos, e oferecerão novilhos sobre o teu altar.
