1 Halleluja, dankt Jahwe, denn er ist gut! / Seine Gnade hört niemals auf. 2 Wer kann die Machttaten Jahwes nur nennen, / gebührend würdigen seinen Ruhm? 3 Wie glücklich sind die, die festhalten am Recht, / die jederzeit tun, was er will! 4 Denk an mich, Jahwe, weil du Gefallen hast an deinem Volk! / Komm mit deiner Hilfe auch zu mir, 5 damit ich das Glück der Erwählten sehe, / mich freue an der Freude deiner Nation, / mich glücklich preise, in deinem Erbteil zu sein. 6 Wir haben gesündigt wie unsere Väter; / wir haben Unrecht getan, gottlos gehandelt. 7 Unsere Väter in Ägypten verstanden deine Wunder nicht, / sie vergaßen die vielen Beweise deiner Gunst. / Schon am Schilfmeer widerstrebten sie dir. 8 Doch seinetwegen rettete er sie, / um seine Macht zu erweisen. 9 Er bedrohte das Schilfmeer, da wurde es trocken. / Durch die Fluten ließ er sie ziehen wie durch eine Wüste. 10 Er rettete sie vor dem Zugriff des Hassers, / erlöste sie aus feindlicher Gewalt. 11 Das Wasser bedeckte ihre Bedränger, / nicht einer von ihnen blieb übrig. 12 Da vertrauten sie seinen Worten, / besangen wiederholt seinen Ruhm. 13 Doch schnell vergaßen sie seine Taten, / warteten nicht auf seinen Rat. 14 In der Wüste wuchs dann ihre Gier, / in der Öde versuchten sie Gott. 15 Da gab er ihnen, was sie verlangten / und schickte ihnen die Schwindsucht. 16 Im Lager wurden sie neidisch auf Mose, / auch auf Aaron, den Heiligen Jahwes. 17 Da wurde Datan von der Erde verschlungen, / die Gruppe Abirams von Erdreich bedeckt. 18 Feuer flammte in ihrer Rotte auf / und verzehrte die rebellische Schar. 19 Sie machten ein Stierkalb am Horeb, / beugten sich vor einem gegossenen Bild. 20 Sie vertauschten den, der ihre Herrlichkeit war, / mit dem Bild eines Gras fressenden Rinds. 21 Sie vergaßen Gott, ihren Retter, / seine großen Taten in Ägypten, 22 seine Wunder im Land der Nachkommen Hams, / seine furchterregenden Zeichen am Schilfmeer. 23 Jetzt wollte Gott sie zerschmettern, / wäre da nicht Mose, sein Erwählter, gewesen. / Der trat in die Bresche vor ihm, / um abzuwenden seinen lodernden Zorn und sie nicht zu vernichten. 24 Dann verschmähten sie das herrliche Land, / denn sie glaubten Gottes Worten nicht. 25 Sie murrten in ihren Zelten, / hörten nicht auf die Stimme Jahwes. 26 Da erhob er seine Hand zum Schwur gegen sie, / um sie in der Wüste niederzuschlagen 27 und ihre Nachkommen unter die Völker zu werfen, / in fremde Länder zerstreut. 28 Sie hängten sich an Baal, den Götzen von Peor,^[1] / und aßen von den Opfern für tote Gebilde. 29 Sie reizten ihn zum Zorn mit ihrem Tun / und plötzlich kam das Unheil über sie. 30 Da trat Pinhas vor und vollzog das Gericht, / so kam die Plage zum Stillstand. 31 Das wurde ihm als Gerechtigkeit angerechnet, / auch seinen Nachkommen für alle Zeit. 32 Am Wasser von Meriba erregten sie seinen Zorn, / und ihretwegen erging es Mose schlecht. 33 Sie hatten ihn so sehr gereizt, / dass er sich zu unbedachten Worten hinreißen ließ. 34 Sie rotteten die Völker nicht aus, / die Jahwe ihnen nannte. 35 Sie vermischten sich mit ihnen / und nahmen ihre Gebräuche an. 36 Sie dienten deren Götzen, / und das wurde zur Falle für sie. 37 Sie brachten ihre Söhne und Töchter / als Opfer für Dämonen dar. 38 Sie vergossen unschuldiges Blut, / das Blut ihrer Söhne und Töchter. / Die opferten sie den Götzen Kanaans. / So wurde das Land durch Blutschuld entweiht. 39 Sie machten sich unrein mit ihrem Treiben / und wurden abtrünnig durch ihr Tun. 40 Da entflammte Jahwes Zorn gegen sein Volk, / er verabscheute sein Eigentum. 41 Er lieferte sie an fremde Völker aus, / ihre Hasser herrschten über sie. 42 Ihre Feinde unterdrückten sie. / Sie beugten sich unter ihre Gewalt. 43 Viele Male riss er sie heraus, / aber sie blieben stur bei ihrem Entschluss / und versanken in ihrer Schuld. 44 Doch er sah ihr Elend an, / sooft er ihr Wehgeschrei hörte. 45 Dann dachte er wieder an seinen Bund, / und weil er sie liebte, tat es ihm leid. 46 Er ließ sie Erbarmen finden / bei allen, deren Gefangene sie waren. 47 Rette uns, Jahwe, unser Gott! / Sammle uns aus den Nationen heraus, / dass wir deinen heiligen Namen preisen / und uns rühmen in deinem Lob! 48 Gelobt sei Jahwe, der Gott Israels, / in alle Zeit und Ewigkeit! / Das ganze Volk sage: Amen! 2 Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord, or declare all his praise? 3 Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times! (Ps 15,2) 4 Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people; help me when you save them,^[1] (Ps 119,132) 5 that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance. 7 Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
