Fedeltà di Dio nella storia d’Israele

1 Cantico di Asaf. Ascolta, popolo mio, il mio insegnamento; porgete orecchio alle parole della mia bocca! 2 Io aprirò la mia bocca per esprimere parabole, esporrò i misteri dei tempi antichi. 3 Quel che abbiamo udito e conosciuto, e che i nostri padri ci hanno raccontato, 4 non lo nasconderemo ai loro figli; diremo alla generazione futura le lodi del Signore, la sua potenza e le meraviglie che egli ha operate. 5 Egli stabilì una testimonianza in Giacobbe, istituì una legge in Israele e ordinò ai nostri padri di farle conoscere ai loro figli, 6 perché fossero note alla generazione futura, ai figli che sarebbero nati. Questi le avrebbero così raccontate ai loro figli, 7 perché ponessero in Dio la loro speranza e non dimenticassero le opere di Dio, ma osservassero i suoi comandamenti. 8 Tutto ciò per non essere come i loro padri, una generazione ostinata e ribelle, una generazione dal cuore incostante, il cui spirito non fu fedele a Dio. 9 I figli di Efraim, gente di guerra, buoni arcieri, voltarono le spalle il dì della battaglia. 10 Non osservarono il patto di Dio e rifiutarono di camminare secondo la sua legge; 11 dimenticarono le sue opere e i prodigi che egli aveva mostrati loro. 12 Egli aveva compiuto meraviglie in presenza dei loro padri, nel paese d’Egitto, nelle campagne di Soan^[1]. 13 Divise il mare, li fece passare e fermò le acque come in un mucchio. 14 Di giorno li guidò con una nuvola, e tutta la notte con un fuoco fiammeggiante. 15 Spaccò le rocce nel deserto e li dissetò abbondantemente, come da sorgenti d’acque profonde. 16 Fece scaturire ruscelli dalla rupe, fece sgorgare acque come fiumi. 17 Ma essi continuarono a peccare contro di lui, a ribellarsi contro l’Altissimo, nel deserto. 18 Tentarono Dio in cuor loro, chiedendo cibo secondo le proprie voglie. 19 Parlarono contro Dio, dicendo: «Potrebbe Dio imbandirci una mensa nel deserto? 20 Ecco, egli percosse la roccia e ne sgorgarono acque, ne strariparono torrenti; potrebbe darci anche del pane e provvedere di carne il suo popolo?» 21 Perciò il Signore, quando l’udì, si adirò aspramente e un fuoco si accese contro Giacobbe; l’ira sua si infuriò contro Israele, 22 perché non avevano creduto in Dio, né avevano avuto fiducia nella sua salvezza. 23 Eppure egli comandò alle nuvole dall’alto, aprì le porte del cielo, 24 fece piovere su di essi la manna per nutrimento e diede loro il frumento del cielo. 25 Essi mangiarono il pane dei potenti; egli mandò loro cibo a sazietà. 26 Scatenò in cielo il vento orientale, e con la sua potenza fece alzare il vento del mezzogiorno; 27 fece piovere su di loro carne come polvere, uccelli alati, numerosi come sabbia del mare; 28 li fece cadere in mezzo al loro accampamento, intorno alle loro tende. 29 Così essi mangiarono, furono saziati e Dio mandò loro quel che avevano desiderato. 30 Non era ancora stata soddisfatta la loro ingordigia, avevano ancora il cibo in bocca, 31 quando l’ira di Dio si scatenò contro di loro, uccise i più vigorosi e abbatté i giovani d’Israele. 32 Con tutto ciò peccarono ancora, non prestando fede ai suoi prodigi. 33 Perciò egli consumò i loro giorni in un niente e i loro anni con un terrore improvviso. 34 Quando li faceva perire, essi lo cercavano e ritornavano desiderosi di ritrovare Dio; 35 e si ricordavano che Dio era la loro rocca, che il Dio altissimo era il loro liberatore. 36 Essi però lo adulavano con la bocca e gli mentivano con la lingua. 37 Il loro cuore non era sincero con lui e non erano fedeli al suo patto. 38 Ma egli, che è pietoso, perdona l’iniquità e non distrugge il peccatore. Più volte trattenne la sua ira e non lasciò divampare tutto il suo sdegno, 39 ricordando che essi erano carne, un soffio che va e non ritorna. 40 Quante volte si ribellarono a lui nel deserto e lo rattristarono in quella solitudine! 41 Ma ricominciarono a tentare Dio e a provocare il Santo d’Israele. 42 Non si ricordarono più della sua mano, del giorno in cui egli li liberò dal nemico, 43 quando operò i suoi miracoli in Egitto e i suoi prodigi nelle campagne di Soan. 44 Egli mutò i loro fiumi e i loro ruscelli in sangue, perché non vi potessero più bere. 45 Mandò contro di loro mosche velenose a divorarli e rane a molestarli. 46 Diede il loro raccolto ai bruchi e il frutto della loro fatica alle cavallette. 47 Distrusse le loro vigne con la grandine e i loro sicomori con i grossi chicchi d’essa. 48 Abbandonò il loro bestiame alla grandine e le loro greggi ai fulmini. 49 Scatenò su di loro il furore del suo sdegno, ira, indignazione e tribolazione, una moltitudine di messaggeri di sventure. 50 Diede sfogo alla sua ira; non preservò dalla morte la loro anima, ma abbandonò la loro vita alla peste. 51 Percosse tutti i primogeniti d’Egitto, le primizie del vigore nelle tende di Cam^[2]; 52 ma fece partire il suo popolo come un gregge e lo guidò attraverso il deserto come una mandria. 53 Li condusse sicuri e senza timore, mentre il mare inghiottiva i loro nemici. 54 Li fece arrivare alla sua terra santa, al monte che la sua destra aveva conquistato. 55 Scacciò le nazioni davanti a loro, assegnò loro a sorte il territorio come eredità e fece abitare le tribù d’Israele nelle tende di quelli. 56 Ma essi tentarono il Dio altissimo, si ribellarono e non osservarono i suoi statuti. 57 Si sviarono e furono sleali come i loro padri; si rivoltarono come un arco fallace; 58 lo provocarono a ira con i loro alti luoghi, lo resero geloso con i loro idoli. 59 Dio udì, si adirò, ed ebbe per Israele grande avversione, 60 abbandonò il tabernacolo di Silo, la tenda in cui aveva abitato fra gli uomini; 61 lasciò condurre la sua forza in schiavitù e lasciò cadere la sua gloria in mano al nemico. 62 Abbandonò il suo popolo alla spada e si adirò contro la sua eredità. 63 Il fuoco consumò i loro giovani e le loro vergini non ebbero canto nuziale. 64 I loro sacerdoti caddero di spada e le loro vedove non fecero lamento. 65 Poi il Signore si risvegliò come dal sonno, simile a un prode che grida eccitato dal vino. 66 Colpì i suoi nemici alle spalle, li coprì di eterna vergogna. 67 Ripudiò la tenda di Giuseppe e non scelse la tribù di Efraim; 68 ma elesse la tribù di Giuda, il monte Sion che egli amava. 69 Costruì il suo tempio, simile a luoghi altissimi, come la terra che egli ha fondata per sempre. 70 Scelse Davide, suo servo, lo prese dagli ovili; 71 lo portò via alle pecore che allattavano, per pascere Giacobbe, suo popolo, e Israele, sua eredità. 72 Ed egli si curò di loro con un cuore integro e li guidò con mano sapiente.

Gottes Geschichte mit seinem Volk

1 Ein Lehrgedicht von Asaf. Hör, mein Volk, auf meine Weisung! / Gebt alle Acht auf das, was ich sage! 2 Ich will euch Weisheitssprüche vermitteln, / Rätsel der Vorzeit erklären.^[1] (Mat 13,35) 3 Was wir hörten und erkannten, / was unsre Väter uns erzählten, 4 wollen wir ihren Söhnen nicht verschweigen, / das sollen auch künftige Generationen erfahren: / die Ruhmestaten und die Stärke Jahwes / und die Wunder, die er tat. 5 Er stellte ein Gesetz in Jakob auf, / eine Weisung in Israel, / und gebot unseren Vätern, / dies ihre Kinder zu lehren, 6 damit auch die nächste Generation sie kennt, / die Kinder, die noch geboren werden, / und auch sie es ihren Kindern erzählen, 7 damit sie auf Gott ihr Vertrauen setzen, / die Taten Gottes nicht vergessen / und seine Gebote befolgen. 8 Denn sie sollen nicht ihren Vorfahren gleichen, / einer launischen Generation voll Trotz und Empörung, / deren Geist nicht treu zu Gott hielt. 9 Die Männer vom Stamm Efraïm,^[2] / mit Pfeil und Bogen gerüstet, / ergriffen am Kampftag die Flucht. 10 Sie hielten sich nicht an Gottes Bund, / sie weigerten sich, seiner Weisung zu folgen. 11 Sie vergaßen seine machtvollen Taten, / die Wunder, die er sie sehen ließ. 12 Wunderbares hat er vor ihren Vätern getan / im Land Ägypten, der Gegend von Zoan.^[3] 13 Er teilte das Meer, und sie gingen hindurch, / er ließ das Wasser stehen wie einen Damm. 14 Am Tag führte er sie mit einer Wolke, / die ganze Nacht mit einem Feuerschein. 15 Er spaltete Felsen in der Wüste, / aus Wasserfluten durften sie trinken. 16 Er ließ Bäche aus den Felsen kommen, / das Wasser floss in Strömen herab. 17 Doch sie hörten mit Sündigen in der Wüste nicht auf, / zeigten dem Höchsten nur ihren Trotz. 18 Sie forderten Gott heraus / und verlangten Speise nach ihrem Geschmack. 19 Sie redeten gegen Gott. / „Ist Gott denn fähig“, sagten sie, / „uns einen Tisch in der Wüste zu decken? 20 Den Felsen hat er zwar geschlagen, / da floss auch Wasser / und Bäche strömten heraus. / Aber kann er uns auch Brot besorgen, / kann er Fleisch verschaffen seinem Volk?“ 21 Als Jahwe das hörte, wurde er zornig. / Feuer flammte gegen Jakob auf, / ein Zorn entbrannte gegen Israel; 22 denn sie hatten ihrem Gott nicht vertraut / und nicht auf seine Hilfe gebaut. 23 Trotzdem gab er den Wolken Befehl / und öffnete die Tore des Himmels. 24 Er ließ Manna auf sie regnen zur Speise, / gab ihnen Himmels-Getreide.^[4] (Giov 6,31) 25 Sie alle aßen das Brot der Engel. / Gottes Speise machte sie satt. 26 Am Himmel setzte er den Ostwind frei / und zwang den Südwind heran. 27 Dann ließ er Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub / und Vögel wie den Sand am Meer. 28 Mitten ins Lager ließ er sie fallen, / rings um Israels Zelte. 29 Da aßen sie und wurden völlig satt. / Er brachte ihnen, was sie verlangten. 30 Doch ihre Gier war noch nicht gestillt, / noch war die Speise in ihrem Mund, / 31 da wurde Gott zornig über sie. / Er streckte ihre Stärksten nieder / und brachte die jungen Männer Israels um. 32 Aber trotzdem sündigten sie weiter / und vertrauten seinen Wundern nicht. 33 Da nahm er ihrem Leben den Sinn / und ließ ihre Jahre in Schrecken vergehen. 34 Doch wenn er tötete, fragten sie nach ihm; / dann kehrten sie um und suchten nach Gott. 35 Dann dachten sie, er sei doch ihr Fels, / Gott, der Höchste, sei ihr Befreier. 36 Doch wieder betrogen sie ihn mit ihrem Mund, / belogen ihn weiter mit ihrer Zunge. 37 Denn ihr Herz hing nicht an ihm, / sie blieben seinem Bund nicht treu. 38 Trotzdem blieb er voll Erbarmen, / vergab ihre Schuld und tötete sie nicht. / Oft hielt er seinen Zorn zurück / und ließ seine Wut nicht erwachen. 39 Er wusste ja, dass sie vergänglich sind, / ein Hauch, der verweht und nicht wiederkehrt. 40 Wie oft haben sie ihm in der Wüste getrotzt, / wie oft ihn dort in der Steppe betrübt! 41 Immer wieder provozierten sie Gott, / kränkten den Heiligen Israels. 42 Sie dachten nicht mehr an seine mächtigen Taten, / als er sie vom Unterdrücker befreite; 43 sie vergaßen seine Zeichen in Ägypten, / seine Wunder in der Gegend von Zoan: 44 Er verwandelte deren Ströme in Blut, / ungenießbar wurde fließendes Wasser. 45 Er schickte ihnen quälende Fliegen; / Frösche verseuchten ihr Land. 46 Den Heuschrecken gab er ihren Ernteertrag, / den grässlichen Fressern, was sie erarbeitet hatten. 47 Ihren Weinstock zerschlug er mit Hagel, / ihre Maulbeerfeigen mit dem Wettersturz. 48 Auch ihr Vieh gab er dem Hagel preis / und ihre Herden den Blitzen. 49 Er ließ seinen glühenden Zorn auf sie los, / rasende Wut, furchtbare Plagen, / eine Schar von Engeln des Unheils. 50 Er ließ seinem Zorn freien Lauf, / verschonte sie nicht vor dem Tod, / sondern lieferte sie aus an die Pest. 51 Jede Erstgeburt in Ägypten tötete er, / die Erstlinge ihrer Kraft in den Zelten Hams.^[5] (Gen 9,18) 52 Wie Schafe führte er sein Volk weg, / wie eine Herde brachte er sie durch die Wüste. 53 Er führte sie sicher, sie mussten nichts fürchten, / aber ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer. 54 Er brachte sie in sein heiliges Land, / zu diesem Berg, den er ihnen erworben hat. 55 Er vertrieb die Völker vor ihnen ‹aus dem Land› / und verteilte dies mit der Messschnur als Erbbesitz. / So ließ er die Stämme Israels in deren Zelten wohnen. 56 Doch sie stellten Gott auf die Probe. / Sie trotzten dem Höchsten / und hielten seine Gebote nicht. 57 Wie ihre Väter fielen sie treulos von ihm ab. / Wie ein trügerischer Bogen schnellten sie herum. 58 Durch ihre Opferhöhen erbitterten sie ihn, / mit ihren Götzen reizten sie seine Eifersucht. 59 Da entbrannte sein Zorn, / und er verwarf Israel ganz. 60 Er gab seine Wohnung in Schilo auf, / das Zelt, in dem er bei ihnen wohnte. 1 Pueblo mío, atiende a mi enseñanza; presta oído a las palabras de mi boca. 2 Mis labios pronunciarán parábolas y evocarán misterios de antaño, 3 cosas que hemos oído y conocido, y que nuestros padres nos han contado. 4 No las esconderemos de sus descendientes; hablaremos a la generación venidera del poder del Señor, de sus proezas, y de las maravillas que ha realizado. 5 Él promulgó un decreto para Jacob, dictó una ley para Israel; ordenó a nuestros antepasados enseñarlos a sus descendientes, 6 para que los conocieran las generaciones venideras y los hijos que habrían de nacer, que a su vez los enseñarían a sus hijos. 7 Así ellos pondrían su confianza en Dios y no se olvidarían de sus proezas, sino que cumplirían sus mandamientos. 8 Así no serían como sus antepasados: generación obstinada y rebelde, gente de corazón fluctuante, cuyo espíritu no se mantuvo fiel a Dios. 9 La tribu de Efraín, con sus diestros arqueros, se puso en fuga el día de la batalla. 10 No cumplieron con el pacto de Dios, sino que se negaron a seguir sus enseñanzas. 11 Echaron al olvido sus proezas, las maravillas que les había mostrado, 12 los milagros que hizo a la vista de sus padres en la tierra de Egipto, en la región de Zoán. 13 Partió el mar en dos para que ellos lo cruzaran, mientras mantenía las aguas firmes como un muro. 14 De día los guió con una nube, y toda la noche con luz de fuego. 15 En el desierto partió en dos las rocas, y les dio a beber torrentes de aguas; 16 hizo que brotaran arroyos de la peña y que las aguas fluyeran como ríos. 17 Pero ellos volvieron a pecar contra él; en el desierto se rebelaron contra el Altísimo. 18 Con toda intención pusieron a Dios a prueba, y le exigieron comida a su antojo. 19 Murmuraron contra Dios, y aun dijeron: «¿Podrá Dios tendernos una mesa en el desierto? 20 Cuando golpeó la roca, el agua brotó en torrentes; pero ¿podrá también darnos de comer?, ¿podrá proveerle carne a su pueblo?» 21 Cuando el Señor oyó esto, se puso muy furioso; su enojo se encendió contra Jacob, su ira ardió contra Israel. 22 Porque no confiaron en Dios, ni creyeron que él los salvaría. 23 Desde lo alto dio una orden a las nubes, y se abrieron las puertas de los cielos. 24 Hizo que les lloviera maná, para que comieran; pan del cielo les dio a comer. 25 Todos ellos comieron pan de ángeles; Dios les envió comida hasta saciarlos. 26 Desató desde el cielo el viento solano, y con su poder levantó el viento del sur. 27 Cual lluvia de polvo, hizo que les lloviera carne; ¡nubes de pájaros, como la arena del mar! 28 Los hizo caer en medio de su campamento y en los alrededores de sus tiendas. 29 Comieron y se hartaron, pues Dios les cumplió su capricho. 30 Pero el capricho no les duró mucho: aún tenían la comida en la boca 31 cuando el enojo de Dios vino sobre ellos: dio muerte a sus hombres más robustos; abatió a la flor y nata de Israel. 32 A pesar de todo, siguieron pecando y no creyeron en sus maravillas. 33 Por tanto, Dios hizo que sus días se esfumaran como un suspiro, que sus años acabaran en medio del terror. 34 Si Dios los castigaba, entonces lo buscaban, y con ansias se volvían de nuevo a él. 35 Se acordaban de que Dios era su roca, de que el Dios Altísimo era su redentor. 36 Pero entonces lo halagaban con la boca, y le mentían con la lengua. 37 No fue su corazón sincero para con Dios; no fueron fieles a su pacto. 38 Sin embargo, él les tuvo compasión; les perdonó su maldad y no los destruyó. Una y otra vez contuvo su enojo, y no se dejó llevar del todo por la ira. 39 Se acordó de que eran simples mortales, un efímero suspiro que jamás regresa. 40 ¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto, y lo entristecieron en los páramos! 41 Una y otra vez ponían a Dios a prueba; provocaban al Santo de Israel. 42 Jamás se acordaron de su poder, de cuando los rescató del opresor, 43 ni de sus señales milagrosas en Egipto, ni de sus portentos en la región de Zoán, 44 cuando convirtió en sangre los ríos egipcios y no pudieron ellos beber de sus arroyos; 45 cuando les envió tábanos que se los devoraban, y ranas que los destruían; 46 cuando entregó sus cosechas a los saltamontes, y sus sembrados a la langosta; 47 cuando con granizo destruyó sus viñas, y con escarcha sus higueras; 48 cuando entregó su ganado al granizo, y sus rebaños a las centellas; 49 cuando lanzó contra ellos el ardor de su ira, de su furor, indignación y hostilidad: ¡todo un ejército de ángeles destructores! 50 Dio rienda suelta a su enojo y no los libró de la muerte, sino que los entregó a la plaga. 51 Dio muerte a todos los primogénitos de Egipto, a las primicias de su raza en los campamentos de Cam. 52 A su pueblo lo guió como a un rebaño; los llevó por el desierto, como a ovejas, 53 infundiéndoles confianza para que no temieran. Pero a sus enemigos se los tragó el mar. 54 Trajo a su pueblo a esta su tierra santa, a estas montañas que su diestra conquistó. 55 Al paso de los israelitas expulsó naciones, cuyas tierras dio a su pueblo en heredad; ¡así estableció en sus tiendas a las tribus de Israel! 56 Pero ellos pusieron a prueba a Dios: se rebelaron contra el Altísimo y desobedecieron sus estatutos. 57 Fueron desleales y traidores, como sus padres; ¡tan falsos como un arco defectuoso! 58 Lo irritaron con sus santuarios paganos; con sus ídolos despertaron sus celos. 59 Dios lo supo y se puso muy furioso, por lo que rechazó completamente a Israel. 60 Abandonó el tabernáculo de Siló, que era su santuario aquí en la tierra, 61 y dejó que el símbolo de su poder y gloria cayera cautivo en manos enemigas. 62 Tan furioso estaba contra su pueblo que dejó que los mataran a filo de espada. 63 A sus jóvenes los consumió el fuego, y no hubo cantos nupciales para sus doncellas; 64 a filo de espada cayeron sus sacerdotes, y sus viudas no pudieron hacerles duelo. 65 Despertó entonces el Señor, como quien despierta de un sueño, como un guerrero que, por causa del vino, lanza gritos desaforados. 66 Hizo retroceder a sus enemigos, y los puso en vergüenza para siempre. 67 Rechazó a los descendientes^[1] de José, y no escogió a la tribu de Efraín; 68 más bien, escogió a la tribu de Judá y al monte Sión, al cual ama. 69 Construyó su santuario, alto como los cielos,^[2] como la tierra, que él afirmó para siempre. 70 Escogió a su siervo David, al que sacó de los apriscos de las ovejas, 71 y lo quitó de andar arreando los rebaños para que fuera el pastor de Jacob, su pueblo; el pastor de Israel, su herencia. 72 Y David los pastoreó con corazón sincero; con mano experta los dirigió.
