1«Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; credete in Dio, e credete anche in me!2Nella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, vi avrei detto forse che io vado a prepararvi un luogo?3Quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un luogo, tornerò e vi accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove sono io, siate anche voi;4e del luogo dove io vado, sapete anche la via».5Tommaso gli disse: «Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo sapere la via?»6Gesù gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.7Se avete conosciuto me, conoscerete anche mio Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete visto».8Filippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».9Gesù gli disse: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre; come mai tu dici: “Mostraci il Padre”?10Non credi tu che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico di mio; ma il Padre che dimora in me fa le opere sue.11Credetemi: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me; se no, credete a causa di quelle stesse opere.12In verità, in verità vi dico che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere che faccio io, e ne farà di maggiori, perché io me ne vado al Padre;13e quello che chiederete nel mio nome, lo farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.14Se mi chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome io la farò.
Gesù promette lo Spirito Santo
15«Se voi mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti;16e io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore perché sia con voi per sempre:17lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi, e sarà in voi.18Non vi lascerò orfani; tornerò da voi.19Ancora un po’ e il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo, e voi vivrete.20In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e voi in me, e io in voi.21Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, e io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».22Giuda (non l’Iscariota) gli domandò: «Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?»23Gesù gli rispose: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio lo amerà, e noi verremo da lui e dimoreremo presso di lui.24Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato.25Vi ho detto queste cose, stando ancora con voi;26ma il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo, che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto quello che vi ho detto.27Vi lascio pace; vi do la mia pace. Io non vi do come il mondo dà. Il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si sgomenti.28Avete udito che vi ho detto: “Io me ne vado, e torno da voi”; se voi mi amaste, vi rallegrereste che io vada al Padre, perché il Padre è maggiore di me.29Ora ve l’ho detto prima che avvenga, affinché, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate.30Io non parlerò più con voi per molto, perché viene il principe del mondo. Egli non può nulla contro di me;31ma così avviene affinché il mondo conosca che amo il Padre e opero come il Padre mi ha ordinato. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui.

1Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt[1]. Ihr glaubt an Gott[2], glaubt auch an mich! (Giov 14,27)2Im Hause meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen. Wenn es nicht so wäre, würde ich euch gesagt haben: Ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten?[3]3Und wenn ich hingehe und euch eine Stätte bereite, so komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit auch ihr seid, wo ich bin. (Giov 12,26; At 1,11; 1Te 4,17; Eb 9,28; Ap 22,7)4Und wohin ich gehe, dahin wisst ihr den Weg.5Thomas spricht zu ihm: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst. Und wie können wir den Weg wissen? (Giov 13,36)6Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben. Niemand kommt zum Vater als nur durch mich. (Giov 5,26; Giov 10,9; Eb 10,20; 1P 3,18)7Wenn ihr mich erkannt habt, werdet ihr auch meinen Vater erkennen[4]; und von jetzt an erkennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen. Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, rede ich nicht von mir selbst; der Vater aber, der in mir bleibt, tut seine Werke. Sendung des Beistands
15Wenn ihr mich liebt, so werdet ihr meine Gebote halten; (Giov 15,10; 1G 2,5; 1G 5,3)16und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Beistand[6] geben, dass er bei euch ist in Ewigkeit[7], (Giov 7,39)17den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht noch ihn erkennt. Ihr erkennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein. (Giov 15,26; Giov 16,13; Ro 8,9; 1Co 3,16; 1G 2,27; 1G 4,6; 1G 5,6)18Ich werde euch nicht verwaist zurücklassen, ich komme zu euch.19Noch eine kleine ⟨Weile⟩, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich: Weil ich lebe, werdet auch ihr leben. (Giov 16,16; 1Te 5,10)20An jenem Tag werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir und ich in euch. (At 10,41)23Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn jemand mich liebt, so wird er mein Wort halten[8], und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm machen. (Prov 8,17; Giov 15,10; Giov 17,26; 1G 2,5; 1G 5,3)24Wer mich nicht liebt, hält[9] meine Worte nicht; und das Wort, das ihr hört, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat. (Giov 14,10)25Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch weile.26Der Beistand[10] aber, der Heilige Geist, den der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, der wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe. (Giov 2,22; Giov 7,39; Giov 16,13; 1G 2,20)27Frieden lasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt, sei auch nicht furchtsam. (Giov 14,1; Giov 16,33; Ro 5,1; Ef 2,14; Col 3,15; 2Te 3,16)28Ihr habt gehört, dass ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe hin, und ich komme zu euch. Wenn ihr mich liebtet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, dass ich zum Vater gehe, denn der Vater ist größer als ich. (Giov 10,29)29Und jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, wenn es geschieht. (Mat 24,25; Giov 13,19)30Ich werde nicht mehr vieles mit euch reden, denn der Fürst der Welt kommt; und in mir hat er gar nichts[11];31aber damit die Welt erkennt, dass ich den Vater liebe und so tue, wie mir der Vater geboten hat. – Steht auf, lasst uns von hier fortgehen!
