Primo viaggio missionario Barnaba e Saulo scelti dallo Spirito Santo

1 Nella chiesa che era ad Antiochia c’erano profeti e dottori: Barnaba, Simeone detto Niger, Lucio di Cirene, Manaem, amico d’infanzia di Erode il tetrarca^[1], e Saulo. 2 Mentre celebravano il culto del Signore e digiunavano, lo Spirito Santo disse: «Mettetemi da parte Barnaba e Saulo per l’opera alla quale li ho chiamati». 3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato, pregato e imposto loro le mani, li lasciarono partire.

4 Essi dunque, mandati dallo Spirito Santo, scesero a Seleucia, e di là salparono verso Cipro. 5 Giunti a Salamina, annunciarono la Parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei; e avevano con loro Giovanni come aiutante. 6 Poi, attraversata tutta l’isola fino a Pafo, trovarono un tale, mago e falso profeta giudeo, di nome Bar-Gesù, 7 il quale era con il proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo intelligente. Questi, chiamati a sé Barnaba e Saulo, chiese di ascoltare la Parola di Dio. 8 Ma Elima, il mago (questo è il significato del suo nome), faceva loro opposizione cercando di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede. 9 Allora Saulo, detto anche Paolo^[2], pieno di Spirito Santo, guardandolo fisso, gli disse: 10 «O uomo pieno di ogni frode e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, non cesserai mai di pervertire le rette vie del Signore? 11 Ecco, ora la mano del Signore è su di te, e sarai cieco per un certo tempo, senza vedere il sole». In quell’istante, oscurità e tenebre piombarono su di lui; e andando qua e là cercava chi lo conducesse per la mano. 12 Allora il proconsole, visto quello che era accaduto, credette, colpito dalla dottrina del Signore. 13 Paolo e i suoi compagni, imbarcatisi a Pafo, arrivarono a Perga di Panfilia; ma Giovanni, separatosi da loro, ritornò a Gerusalemme.

14 Essi, passando oltre Perga, giunsero ad Antiochia di Pisidia; ed entrati di sabato nella sinagoga, si sedettero. 15 Dopo la lettura della legge e dei profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dire loro: «Fratelli, se avete qualche parola di esortazione da rivolgere al popolo, ditela». 16 Allora Paolo si alzò e, fatto cenno con la mano, disse: «Israeliti, e voi che temete Dio, ascoltate. 17 Il Dio di questo popolo d’Israele scelse i nostri padri, fece grande il popolo durante la sua dimora nel paese d’Egitto e, con braccio potente, lo trasse fuori. 18 Per circa quarant’anni sopportò la loro condotta nel deserto. 19 Poi, dopo aver distrutto sette nazioni nel paese di Canaan, distribuì loro come eredità il paese di quelle. 20 Tutto questo per circa quattrocentocinquant’anni. Dopo queste cose, diede loro dei giudici fino al profeta Samuele. 21 In seguito chiesero un re; e Dio diede loro Saul, figlio di Chis, della tribù di Beniamino, per un periodo di quarant’anni. 22 Poi lo rimosse e suscitò loro come re Davide, al quale rese questa testimonianza: “Io ho trovato Davide, figlio di Isai, uomo secondo il mio cuore, che eseguirà ogni mio volere”^[3]. 23 Dalla discendenza di lui, secondo la promessa, Dio ha suscitato a Israele un salvatore, Gesù. 24 Giovanni, prima della venuta di lui, aveva predicato il battesimo del ravvedimento a tutto il popolo d’Israele. 25 E quando Giovanni stava per concludere la sua missione disse: “Che cosa pensate voi che io sia? Io non sono il Messia; ma ecco, dopo di me viene uno al quale io non sono degno di slacciare i calzari”. 26 Fratelli, figli della discendenza di Abraamo, e tutti voi che avete timor di Dio, a noi è stata mandata la Parola di questa salvezza. 27 Infatti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi non hanno riconosciuto questo Gesù e, condannandolo, adempirono le dichiarazioni dei profeti che si leggono ogni sabato. 28 Benché non trovassero in lui nulla che fosse degno di morte, chiesero a Pilato che fosse ucciso. 29 Dopo aver compiuto tutte le cose che erano scritte di lui, lo trassero giù dal legno e lo deposero in un sepolcro. 30 Ma Dio lo risuscitò dai morti; 31 e per molti giorni egli apparve a quelli che erano saliti con lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, i quali {ora} sono suoi testimoni davanti al popolo. 32 E noi vi portiamo il lieto messaggio che la promessa fatta ai padri 33 Dio l’ha adempiuta per noi, {loro} figli, risuscitando Gesù, come anche è scritto nel salmo secondo: “Tu sei mio Figlio, oggi io ti ho generato”^[4]. 34 Siccome lo ha risuscitato dai morti, in modo che non abbia più a tornare alla decomposizione, Dio ha detto così: “Io vi manterrò le sacre e fedeli promesse fatte a Davide”^[5]. 35 Difatti egli dice altrove: “Tu non permetterai che il tuo Santo subisca la decomposizione”^[6]. 36 Ora Davide, dopo aver eseguito il volere di Dio nella sua generazione, si è addormentato ed è stato unito ai suoi padri, e il suo corpo si è decomposto; 37 ma colui che Dio ha risuscitato non ha subìto decomposizione. 38 Vi sia dunque noto, fratelli, che per mezzo di lui vi è annunciato il perdono dei peccati; 39 e, per mezzo di lui, chiunque crede è giustificato di tutte le cose, delle quali voi non avete potuto essere giustificati mediante la legge di Mosè. 40 Guardate dunque che non vi accada ciò che è detto nei profeti: 41 “Guardate, o disprezzatori, stupite e nascondetevi, perché io compio un’opera ai giorni vostri, un’opera che voi non credereste, se qualcuno ve la raccontasse”^[7]». 42 Mentre uscivano, furono pregati di parlare di quelle medesime cose il sabato seguente. 43 Dopo che la riunione si fu sciolta, molti Giudei e proseliti pii seguirono Paolo e Barnaba; i quali, parlando loro, li convincevano a perseverare nella grazia di Dio. 44 Il sabato seguente quasi tutta la città si radunò per udire la Parola del Signore. 45 Ma i Giudei, vedendo la folla, furono pieni di invidia e, bestemmiando, contraddicevano le cose dette da Paolo. 46 Ma Paolo e Barnaba dissero con franchezza: «Era necessario che a voi per primi si annunciasse la Parola di Dio; ma poiché la respingete e non vi ritenete degni della vita eterna, ecco, ci rivolgiamo agli stranieri. 47 Così infatti ci ha ordinato il Signore, dicendo: “Io ti ho posto come luce dei popoli, perché tu porti la salvezza fino alle estremità della terra”^[8]. 48 Gli stranieri, udendo queste cose, si rallegravano e glorificavano la Parola del Signore; e tutti quelli che erano ordinati a vita eterna, credettero. 49 E la Parola del Signore si diffondeva per tutta la regione. 50 Ma i Giudei istigarono le donne pie e ragguardevoli e i notabili della città, scatenarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba e li cacciarono fuori dal loro territorio. 51 Allora essi, scossa la polvere dei piedi^[9] contro di loro, andarono a Iconio, 52 mentre i discepoli erano pieni di gioia e di Spirito Santo.

4 Sie nun, ausgesandt von dem Heiligen Geist, gingen hinab nach Seleuzia, und von dort segelten sie nach Zypern. 5 Und als sie in Salamis waren, verkündigten sie das Wort Gottes in den Synagogen der Juden. 6 Als sie aber die ganze Insel bis Paphos durchzogen hatten, fanden sie einen Mann, einen Magier, einen falschen Propheten, einen Juden, mit Namen Barjesus, 7 der bei dem Prokonsul^[3] Sergius Paulus war, einem verständigen Mann. Dieser rief Barnabas und Saulus herbei und begehrte das Wort Gottes zu hören. 8 Elymas aber, der Magier – denn so wird sein Name übersetzt –, widerstand ihnen und suchte den Prokonsul vom Glauben abzubringen. (At 8,9; 2Ti 3,8) 9 Saulus aber, der auch Paulus ⟨heißt⟩, blickte, mit Heiligem Geist erfüllt, fest auf ihn hin 10 und sprach: Du, voll aller List und aller Bosheit, Sohn des Teufels, Feind aller Gerechtigkeit! Willst du nicht aufhören, die geraden Wege des Herrn zu verkehren? 11 Und jetzt siehe, die Hand des Herrn ist auf dir! Und du wirst blind sein und die Sonne eine Zeit lang nicht sehen. Und sogleich fiel Dunkel und Finsternis auf ihn; und er tappte umher und suchte solche, die ihn an der Hand leiteten. 13 Als aber Paulus und seine Begleiter von Paphos abgefahren waren, kamen sie nach Perge in Pamphylien. Johannes aber sonderte sich von ihnen ab und kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück. (At 15,38) 14 Sie aber zogen von Perge aus hindurch und kamen nach Antiochia in Pisidien; und sie gingen am Tag des Sabbats in die Synagoge und setzten sich. 6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.
