1Mose entgegnete: »Was ist, wenn sie mir nicht glauben und nicht auf mich hören, sondern behaupten: ›Der HERR ist dir gar nicht erschienen!‹«2Da fragte ihn der HERR: »Was hast du da in deiner Hand?« »Einen Stab«, antwortete Mose.3»Wirf ihn auf den Boden!«, befahl der HERR. Mose tat es – und der Stab wurde zu einer Schlange. Erschrocken wich Mose zurück.4»Streck deine Hand aus und pack sie am Schwanz!«, forderte der HERR ihn auf. Mose griff nach der Schlange, und in seiner Hand wurde sie wieder zu einem Stab.5´»Tu das vor den Israeliten!«, sagte der HERR`. »Dann werden sie glauben, dass ich, der HERR, dir erschienen bin, der Gott ihrer Vorfahren, der Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Jakobs«.6Dann befahl er Mose: »Steck die Hand in dein Gewand[1]!« Mose gehorchte, und als er die Hand wieder herauszog, war sie voller Aussatz, weiß wie Schnee.7»Steck sie noch einmal in dein Gewand«, forderte der HERR ihn auf. Mose tat es, und als er sie wieder herauszog, war sie wieder so ´gesund` wie der Rest seines Körpers.8´Der HERR sagte zu Mose:` »Wenn sie dir nicht glauben und sich durch das erste Zeichen nicht überzeugen lassen, werden sie dir nach dem zweiten Zeichen Glauben schenken.9Sollten sie dir aber immer noch nicht glauben[2] und nicht auf dich hören, dann schöpfe Wasser aus dem Nil und schütte es auf den Boden. Dort wird es zu Blut werden.«10»Ach, Herr!«, erwiderte Mose, »ich bin kein guter Redner! Das war ich noch nie[3], und auch jetzt, wo du mit mir, deinem Diener, redest, ist es nicht besser geworden. Meine Worte sind unbeholfen und schwerfällig.[4]«11Der HERR antwortete: »Wer hat dem Menschen den Mund gegeben? Wer macht ihn stumm oder taub, sehend oder blind? Doch wohl ich, der HERR!12Und nun mach dich auf den Weg! Ich selbst helfe dir beim Reden[5] und zeige dir, was du sagen sollst.«13Doch Mose bat: »Ach, Herr, schick doch lieber einen anderen[6]!«14Da wurde der HERR zornig über Mose und sagte: »Du hast doch noch einen Bruder, den Leviten Aaron! Ich weiß, dass er gut reden kann. Er ist schon unterwegs zu dir und freut sich darauf, dich zu sehen.15Du kannst ihm sagen, ´was er den Israeliten weitergeben soll`, und ihm deine Worte in den Mund legen. Ich selbst werde euch beiden beim Reden helfen[7] und euch zeigen, wie ihr vorgehen sollt.16Aaron wird an deiner Stelle zum Volk sprechen, er ist dein Sprachrohr[8]. Du aber stehst für ihn an Gottes Stelle ´und trägst ihm auf, was er sagen soll`.17Nimm deinen Stab mit, denn mit ihm wirst du die Wunder[9] tun, ´die deinen Auftrag bestätigen`.«
Mose macht sich auf den Weg nach Ägypten
18Mose kehrte zu seinem Schwiegervater Jitro zurück und sagte: »Ich würde gern wieder zu meinen Landsleuten nach Ägypten gehen und sehen, ob sie noch am Leben sind.« Jitro antwortete: »Geh nur. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute![10]«19Während Mose noch in Midian war, sagte der HERR zu ihm: »Du kannst jetzt nach Ägypten zurückkehren, denn alle, die dir nach dem Leben getrachtet haben, sind mittlerweile gestorben.«20Mose setzte seine Frau und seine Kinder auf einen Esel, nahm den Gottesstab in die Hand und trat die Reise nach Ägypten an.21Der HERR sagte zu ihm: »Wenn du nach Ägypten kommst, dann sieh zu, dass du vor dem Pharao die Wunder tust, zu denen ich dich befähigt habe[11]. Ich werde ihn jedoch starrsinnig machen[12], und er wird mein Volk nicht gehen lassen.22Dann sollst du ihm sagen: ›So spricht der HERR: Israel ist mein erstgeborener Sohn,23und ich befehle dir, ihn ziehen zu lassen, damit er mir dienen kann. Wenn du dich weigerst, werde ich deinen erstgeborenen Sohn töten.‹«
Moses Sohn muss beschnitten werden
24Als sie einmal unterwegs übernachteten, fiel der HERR über Mose her[13] und wollte ihn töten.25Da nahm Zippora einen scharfen Stein, schnitt die Vorhaut ihres Sohnes ab und berührte damit Moses Beine[14]. Dabei sagte sie: »Ein Blutbräutigam bist du für mich!«26Da ließ der HERR von Mose ab. Zippora nannte ihren Mann »Blutbräutigam«, weil sie ihren Sohn beschneiden musste.[15]
Die Israeliten erkennen Moses und Aarons Auftrag an
27Der HERR hatte Aaron befohlen, Mose in der Wüste entgegenzugehen, und Aaron hatte sich auf den Weg gemacht. Am Berg Gottes traf er Mose und küsste ihn ´zur Begrüßung`.28Mose erzählte seinem Bruder, was der HERR ihm aufgetragen hatte und welche Wunder er tun sollte.29Gemeinsam gingen die beiden ´nach Ägypten` und versammelten dort die führenden Männer der Israeliten.30Aaron teilte ihnen alles mit, was der HERR zu Mose gesagt hatte, und Mose tat[16] die Wunder vor den Augen des ´gesamten` Volkes.31Die Israeliten glaubten ihnen. Als sie hörten, dass der HERR sich ihrer angenommen und ihr Elend gesehen hatte, warfen sie sich ehrfürchtig vor ihm nieder.
1Und Mose antwortete und sprach: Aber siehe, sie werden mir nicht glauben und nicht auf mich hören, sondern sagen: Der HERR ist dir nicht erschienen! (Ps 91,13; Mk 16,18)5»Darum werden sie glauben, dass der HERR dir erschienen ist, der Gott ihrer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs.« (2Mo 3,16; 2Mo 19,9)6Und der HERR sprach weiter zu ihm: »Stecke doch deine Hand in deinen Gewandbausch!« Da steckte er seine Hand in seinen Gewandbausch; und als er sie herauszog, siehe, da war seine Hand aussätzig wie Schnee. Sende doch, wen du senden willst! (Jon 1,3)14Da wurde der HERR sehr zornig über Mose und sprach: »Weiß ich denn nicht, dass dein Bruder Aaron, der Levit, gut reden kann? Und siehe, er zieht dir entgegen, und wenn er dich sieht, so wird er sich von Herzen freuen. (2Mo 4,27)15Du sollst zu ihm reden und ihm die Worte in den Mund legen; so will ich mit deinem Mund und mit seinem Mund sein und euch lehren, was ihr tun sollt. (4Mo 23,5; 5Mo 5,31; Ps 25,12; Ps 32,8; Jes 51,16; Jer 1,9)16Und er soll für dich zum Volk reden, und so wird er dein Mund sein, und du sollst für ihn an Gottes Stelle sein.[1] (2Mo 7,1)17Und nimm diesen Stab in deine Hand, mit dem du die Zeichen tun sollst!« (2Mo 4,2; 2Mo 7,9; 2Mo 7,19)
Mose kehrt nach Ägypten zurück
18Da ging Mose hin und kam zurück zu Jethro, seinem Schwiegervater, und sprach zu ihm: Lass mich doch gehen und zu meinen Brüdern zurückkehren, die in Ägypten sind, und sehen, ob sie noch leben! Und Jethro sprach zu Mose: Geh hin in Frieden! (1Mo 31,17; 1Mo 31,26; 1Sam 20,42)19Und der HERR sprach zu Mose in Midian: Geh nach Ägypten zurück; denn die Leute sind alle tot, die nach deinem Leben trachteten! (2Mo 2,15; Mt 2,20)20So nahm Mose seine Frau und seine Söhne und ließ sie auf einem Esel reiten und zog wieder in das Land Ägypten. Mose nahm auch den Stab Gottes in seine Hand. (2Mo 2,21; 2Mo 17,9; 2Mo 18,2)21Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Wenn du wieder nach Ägypten kommst, so achte darauf, dass du vor dem Pharao all die Wunder tust, die ich in deine Hand gegeben habe. Ich aber will sein Herz verstocken, dass er das Volk nicht ziehen lassen wird. (5Mo 2,30; Jes 6,10; Röm 9,18)22Und du sollst zum Pharao sagen: So spricht der HERR: »Israel ist mein erstgeborener Sohn; (5Mo 14,1; Jer 31,9; Hos 11,1; Röm 9,4)23darum sage ich dir: Lass meinen Sohn ziehen, damit er mir dient; wenn du dich aber weigern wirst, ihn ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so werde ich deinen eigenen erstgeborenen Sohn umbringen!« (2Mo 5,1; 2Mo 11,4; 2Mo 12,29)24Es geschah aber, als er unterwegs in der Herberge war, da trat ihm der HERR entgegen und wollte ihn töten. Da ging er hin und traf ihn am Berg Gottes und küsste ihn. (2Mo 3,1)28Und Mose verkündete Aaron alle Worte des HERRN, der ihn gesandt hatte, auch alle Zeichen, die er ihm befohlen hatte. Und als sie hörten, dass der HERR sich der Kinder Israels angenommen und ihr Elend angesehen habe, da neigten sie sich und beteten an. 1Moses answered, ‘What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, “The Lord did not appear to you”?’2Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied.3The Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.4Then the Lord said to him, ‘Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.’ So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.5‘This,’ said the Lord, ‘is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has appeared to you.’6Then the Lord said, ‘Put your hand inside your cloak.’ So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[1] – it had become as white as snow.7‘Now put it back into your cloak,’ he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.8Then the Lord said, ‘If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second.9But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.’10Moses said to the Lord, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.’11The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?12Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’13But Moses said, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.’14Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, ‘What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.15You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.16He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.17But take this staff in your hand so that you can perform the signs with it.’
Moses returns to Egypt
18Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, ‘Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.’ Jethro said, ‘Go, and I wish you well.’19Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, ‘Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead.’20So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.21The Lord said to Moses, ‘When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.22Then say to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,23and I told you, ‘Let my son go, so that he may worship me.’ But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.” ’24At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses[2] and was about to kill him.25But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it.[3] ‘Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,’ she said.26So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said ‘bridegroom of blood’, referring to circumcision.)27The Lord said to Aaron, ‘Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.’ So he met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him.28Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.29Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites,30and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses.
