1Danach gingen Mose und Aaron zum Pharao und sagten zu ihm: »So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: ›Lass mein Volk gehen, damit sie für mich in der Wüste ein Fest feiern können.‹«2»Wer ist der HERR, dass ich auf ihn hören und Israel gehen lassen sollte?«, erwiderte der Pharao. »Ich kenne diesen ›HERRN‹ nicht und werde Israel auch nicht ziehen lassen.«3Sie entgegneten: »Er ist der Gott der Hebräer, er ist uns begegnet. Deshalb wollen wir drei Tagesreisen weit in die Wüste ziehen und für den HERRN, unseren Gott, ein Opferfest feiern, damit er uns nicht durch Krankheit oder Krieg sterben lässt.«4Da herrschte der König von Ägypten die beiden an: »Mose und Aaron! Was fällt euch eigentlich ein, dass ihr die Leute von ihren Pflichten abhalten wollt? Los, geht zurück an eure Arbeit!«5»Es gibt schon genug von diesem Gesindel im Land[1]«, fuhr der Pharao fort, »und nun wollt ihr auch noch, dass sie ausruhen statt zu arbeiten?«
Die Israeliten werden noch härter unterdrückt
6Noch am selben Tag befahl der Pharao den ägyptischen Aufsehern[2] und den ´israelitischen` Vorarbeitern:7»Gebt den Israeliten kein Strohhäcksel mehr für die Herstellung der Ziegel, wie ihr es bisher getan habt! Ab jetzt sollen sie selbst ´über die Felder` gehen und das Häcksel zusammensuchen!8Verlangt von ihnen aber trotzdem die gleiche Anzahl an Ziegeln wie bisher. Erlasst ihnen kein Stück. Denn sie sind faul, deswegen schreien sie: ›Lass uns gehen, damit wir für unseren Gott ein Opferfest feiern können.‹9Bürdet den Leuten noch mehr Arbeit auf! Dann sind sie beschäftigt und hören nicht mehr auf dieses Lügengeschwätz.«10Die Aufseher und Vorarbeiter gingen zu den Israeliten und gaben bekannt: »So spricht der Pharao: ›Ich gebe euch kein Strohhäcksel mehr!11Geht und seht selber zu, wo ihr euer Häcksel auftreibt! Aber von eurem Arbeitssoll wird euch kein einziger Ziegel erlassen.‹«12Von da an zogen die Israeliten durch ganz Ägypten, um auf den Feldern Strohreste für das Häcksel zusammenzusuchen.13Die Aufseher trieben sie unerbittlich an: »Ihr müsst jeden Tag genauso viele Ziegel herstellen wie zuvor, als es noch Häcksel gab.«14Sie schlugen die israelitischen Vorarbeiter, die sie eingesetzt hatten, und schrien sie an: »Warum habt ihr gestern und heute euer Soll an Ziegeln nicht erfüllt?«15Da gingen die israelitischen Vorarbeiter zum Pharao und klagten: »Herr, warum tust du uns das an?[3]16Wir[4] bekommen kein Häcksel mehr, und trotzdem befiehlt man uns: ›Fertigt Ziegel an!‹ Und nun werden wir sogar geschlagen, obwohl deine Leute schuld daran sind[5].«17Doch der Pharao hielt ihnen entgegen: »Faul seid ihr, ganz einfach faul! Darum sagt ihr auch: ›Wir wollen fortziehen und für den HERRN ein Opferfest feiern.‹18Und jetzt geht endlich an eure Arbeit! Euch wird auch weiterhin kein Häcksel geliefert. Aber euer Soll an Ziegeln müsst ihr trotzdem erfüllen.«19Da wurde den Vorarbeitern klar, dass ihre Bitten aussichtslos waren:[6] Sie durften ihr Tagessoll an Ziegeln nicht verringern.
Gott verspricht seine Hilfe
20Als die Vorarbeiter aus dem Palast des Pharaos traten, stießen sie auf Mose und Aaron, die auf sie gewartet hatten.21Die Vorarbeiter fuhren die beiden an: »Der HERR möge sehen, ´was ihr getan habt`, und euch bestrafen! Denn ihr habt uns beim Pharao und seinem Hofstaat verhasst gemacht[7] und ihnen einen Vorwand geliefert, uns umzubringen[8].«22Da wandte sich Mose an den HERRN und fragte ihn: »Warum, HERR, hast du deinem Volk das angetan? Warum hast du mich überhaupt hierher geschickt?23Seit ich zum Pharao gegangen bin, um in deinem Namen mit ihm zu reden, hat er das Volk nur noch schlechter behandelt. Du aber hast nichts getan, um dein Volk zu retten!«

(2Mo 1,7; 2Mo 1,12; Spr 14,28)6Und der Pharao gab an demselben Tag den Treibern des Volkes und seinen Aufsehern Befehl und sprach: (2Mo 5,10)7Ihr sollt dem Volk kein Stroh mehr geben zum Ziegelstreichen wie gestern und vorgestern. Lasst sie selbst hingehen und sich Stroh zusammensuchen! (2Mo 5,10)8Ihr sollt ihnen aber dennoch die bestimmte Zahl Ziegel auferlegen, die sie gestern und vorgestern gemacht haben, und davon nichts nachlassen; denn sie sind faul. Darum schreien sie und sprechen: Wir wollen hingehen und unserem Gott Opfer darbringen! (Ps 106,42)9Schwer soll die Arbeit auf den Leuten lasten, sodass sie damit zu schaffen haben und nicht auf trügerische Worte achten! (2Kön 18,20; Jer 43,2)10Da gingen die Treiber des Volkes und seine Aufseher hinaus, redeten mit dem Volk und sprachen: So spricht der Pharao: »Ich gebe euch kein Stroh mehr; (2Mo 1,11; 2Mo 5,7)11geht ihr selbst hin, holt euch Stroh, wo ihr es findet, aber von eurem Tagewerk wird euch nichts erlassen!« (2Mo 5,13)12Da zerstreute sich das Volk im ganzen Land Ägypten, um Stoppeln zu sammeln, damit sie gehacktes Stroh hätten.13Und die Treiber trieben sie an und sprachen: Erfüllt euer bestimmtes Tagewerk, wie [zuvor], als ihr noch Stroh hattet!14Und die Aufseher der Kinder Israels, welche die Treiber des Pharao über sie gesetzt hatten, wurden geschlagen, und es wurde zu ihnen gesagt: Warum habt ihr weder heute noch gestern euer Maß an Ziegeln erfüllt wie zuvor?15Da gingen die Aufseher der Kinder Israels hinein und schrien zu dem Pharao und sprachen: Warum behandelst du deine Knechte so? (2Mo 5,6)16Man gibt deinen Knechten kein Stroh und spricht zu uns: Macht die Ziegel! Und siehe, deine Knechte werden geschlagen; dein Volk versündigt sich!17Er aber sprach: Ihr seid faul, faul seid ihr! Darum sprecht ihr: Wir wollen hingehen und dem HERRN Opfer darbringen! (Mt 26,8; 2Thess 3,10)18So geht nun hin, arbeitet; Stroh soll man euch nicht geben, aber die bestimmte Anzahl Ziegel sollt ihr liefern! (Ps 73,7; Pred 5,7)19Da sahen die Aufseher der Kinder Israels, dass es mit ihnen schlimm stand, weil man sagte: Ihr sollt nichts nachlassen von der Zahl der Ziegel, die ihr täglich zu liefern habt! (5Mo 32,36; Pred 4,1)20Und als sie von dem Pharao hinausgingen, trafen sie Mose und Aaron an, die dort standen und auf sie warteten. (2Mo 5,1)21Da sprachen sie zu ihnen: Der HERR sehe auf euch und richte es, dass ihr uns verhasst gemacht habt vor dem Pharao und seinen Knechten und ihnen das Schwert in die Hand gegeben habt, um uns zu töten! (1Mo 34,30; 2Mo 6,9; 1Sam 13,4; 1Sam 27,12; Ps 73,10)22Da wandte sich Mose an den HERRN und sprach: Herr, warum lässt du dein Volk so schlecht behandeln? Warum hast du mich hergesandt? (2Mo 34,31; Ps 10,1; Jer 12,1)23Denn seitdem ich hineingegangen bin zum Pharao, um in deinem Namen zu reden, hat er dieses Volk schlecht behandelt, und du hast dein Volk gar nicht errettet! (Hi 22,17; Mal 3,14; Hebr 10,36)
1Afterwards Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: “Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.” ’2Pharaoh said, ‘Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.’3Then they said, ‘The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.’4But the king of Egypt said, ‘Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labour? Get back to your work!’5Then Pharaoh said, ‘Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.’6That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people:7‘You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw.8But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, “Let us go and sacrifice to our God.”9Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.’10Then the slave drivers and the overseers went out and said to the people, ‘This is what Pharaoh says: “I will not give you any more straw.11Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.” ’12So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw.13The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, ‘Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.’14And Pharaoh’s slave drivers beat the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding, ‘Why haven’t you met your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?’15Then the Israelite overseers went and appealed to Pharaoh: ‘Why have you treated your servants this way?16Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, “Make bricks!” Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.’17Pharaoh said, ‘Lazy, that’s what you are – lazy! That is why you keep saying, “Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.”18Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks.’19The Israelite overseers realised they were in trouble when they were told, ‘You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day.’20When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them,21and they said, ‘May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.’
God promises deliverance
22Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me?23Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.’
