1Ruf deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Söhne Nadab, Abihu, Eleasar und Itamar zu dir. Unter allen Israeliten ´habe ich sie ausgewählt`, damit sie mir, ´dem HERRN`, als Priester dienen.2Lass für deinen Bruder Aaron heilige Gewänder anfertigen, die der Würde und Pracht ´seines Amtes` entsprechen.3Betraue mit der Anfertigung fähige Leute[1], die ich mit besonderer Weisheit erfüllt habe[2]. ´In diesen Gewändern` soll Aaron mir als Priester geweiht werden.4Folgende Kleidungsstücke sollen sie herstellen: eine Brusttasche, einen Priesterschurz, ein ´blaues` Obergewand, ein ´weißes` Leinengewand mit eingewebten Mustern, einen Turban und einen Stoffgürtel. Diese heiligen Gewänder soll man für Aaron und seine Nachfolger[3] anfertigen, damit sie mir als Priester dienen können.5´Für alle diese Kleidungsstücke` sollen Gold ´fäden`, blaue, purpurfarbene und karmesinrote ´Wolle` sowie gezwirntes Leinen verwendet werden.
Der Priesterschurz
6Den Priesterschurz sollen sie aus Gold ´fäden`, blauer, purpurfarbener und karmesinroter ´Wolle` sowie gezwirntem Leinen in kunstvoller Webearbeit fertigen.7Er soll mit zwei Schulterstücken versehen werden, die mit Trägern links und rechts befestigt sind.[4]8Am Schurz soll ein Gürtel angebracht werden, der ebenso aus Gold ´fäden`, blauer, purpurfarbener und karmesinroter ´Wolle` und gezwirntem Leinen gewebt ist.9Nimm zwei Onyxsteine und graviere darauf die Namen der Stämme Israels[5] ein,10sechs Namen auf den einen und sechs Namen auf den anderen Stein, in der Geburtsfolge der Stammväter.11Verwende die Technik des Siegelschneidens[6], um die Namen der Stämme in die beiden Steine einzugravieren. Fasse die Steine mit Gold ein12und befestige sie auf den beiden Schulterstücken des Priesterschurzes. Sie sollen als Gedenksteine dienen: Aaron soll die Namen der Stämme Israels auf seinen Schultern tragen, um ´mich`, den HERRN, an sie zu erinnern.13Bring ´an den Schulterstücken` zwei goldene Spangen[7] an,14stelle aus reinem Gold zwei gedrehte Ketten her und befestige die Ketten an den Spangen.
Die Brusttasche
15Webe die Brusttasche für die Losentscheide[8] auf die gleiche kunstvolle Weise wie den Priesterschurz und verwende dafür ´ebenfalls` Gold ´fäden`, blaue, purpurfarbene und karmesinrote ´Wolle` sowie gezwirntes Leinen.16Leg den Stoff doppelt, so dass sich daraus eine Tasche ergibt. Sie soll quadratisch sein, 25 mal 25 Zentimeter groß.[9]17Besetze die Brusttasche mit vier Reihen von Edelsteinen: Die erste Reihe[10] besteht aus einem Rubin, einem Smaragd und einem Topas,18die zweite aus einem Karfunkel, einem Lapislazuli und einem Quarzkristall,19die dritte aus einem Türkis, einem Achat und einem Amethyst20und die vierte aus einem Aquamarin, einem ´schwarzen` Onyx und einem Opal.[11] Alle Steine sollen in Gold gefasst werden.21Insgesamt sind es zwölf Steine, entsprechend der Zahl der Stämme Israels[12]. Auf jedem Stein soll in Siegelschneidetechnik ein Name eingraviert werden, so dass alle zwölf Stämme vertreten sind.22Fertige für die Brusttasche ´zwei` gedrehte Kettchen aus reinem Gold23sowie zwei goldene Ringe. Näh die Ringe an den beiden ´oberen` Ecken der Brusttasche an24und fädele die gedrehten Goldkettchen durch die Ringe.25Befestige die Enden der beiden Kettchen an den Spangen und bring diese vorne an den Schulterstücken des Priesterschurzes an.26Stell zwei ´weitere` Ringe aus reinem Gold her und näh sie so an die unteren Ecken der Brusttasche, dass sie sich auf der Rückseite befinden, die auf dem Priesterschurz aufliegt.27Fertige ´noch` zwei ´weitere` goldene Ringe und bring sie vorne an den ´Trägern der` Schulterstücke des Priesterschurzes an, und zwar ziemlich weit unten, direkt über dem Gürtel, in der Nähe des Verschlusses.28Binde die Brusttasche am Priesterschurz fest, indem du blaue Schnüre von den Ringen an der Brusttasche zu den Ringen am Schurz führst. So bleibt sie ´an ihrem Platz` über dem Gürtel und baumelt nicht vor dem Schurz hin und her.29Jedes Mal, wenn Aaron das Heiligtum betritt, bringt er mit Hilfe der Brusttasche[13] die Namen der Stämme Israels vor ´mich`, den HERRN. Er trägt sie auf seinem Herzen und erinnert mich dadurch ständig an mein Volk[14].30Leg ´die heiligen Lose` Urim und Tummim in die Brusttasche, damit Aaron ´auch` sie auf seinem Herzen trägt, wenn er vor mich, den HERRN, tritt. Er soll die Lose, mit deren Hilfe Entscheidungen für ´mein` Volk Israel getroffen werden[15], immer auf seinem Herzen tragen und in meine Gegenwart bringen.
Das Obergewand
31Das Obergewand, das unter dem Priesterschurz getragen wird, sollst du vollständig aus blau gefärbtem ´Stoff` anfertigen.32Der Halsauschnitt soll ähnlich wie bei einem Panzerhemd[16] mit einer fest gewebten Borte eingefasst werden, damit die Öffnung nicht ausreißt. (2Mo 39,23)33Bring am ´unteren` Saum des Gewands ringsum ´kleine` Granatäpfel aus blauer, purpurfarbener und karmesinroter Wolle an und dazwischen goldene Glöckchen.34Am ganzen Saum ringsum soll immer abwechselnd ein Goldglöckchen und ein Granatäpfelchen hängen.35Dieses Gewand soll Aaron während seines Priesterdienstes tragen. Am Klang ´der Glöckchen` kann man hören, wann er zu mir, dem HERRN, ins Heiligtum hineingeht und wann er ´wieder` herauskommt. ´Das wird ihn schützen`, sodass er nicht sterben muss.
Das Schild auf der Stirn, der Turban und das Leinengewand
36Fertige ´als Stirnreif` ein kleines Schild aus reinem Gold an und graviere darauf in Siegelschneidetechnik die Worte: »Dem HERRN geweiht«[17].37Knüpf eine blaue Schnur daran und befestige es an der Vorderseite des Turbans,38sodass es auf Aarons Stirn liegt. ´Als Priester, der mir geweiht ist`, kann Aaron die Schuld der Israeliten sühnen, durch die sonst deren heilige Opfergaben verunreinigt würden[18]. Aaron soll das kleine Schild ´während seines Dienstes am Heiligtum` ständig tragen. Dann werde ich, der HERR, die Gaben der Israeliten gnädig annehmen.[19]39Webe außerdem das ´weiße` Leinengewand mit seinen Mustern, stell den Turban aus feinem Leinen her und fertige den Gürtel aus bunt besticktem Stoff.
Die Amtskleidung der übrigen Priester
40Stell auch für Aarons Söhne Leinengewänder, Stoffgürtel und Kopfbedeckungen her, an denen die Würde und Pracht ´ihres Amtes` sichtbar wird.
Beim Dienst muss die Amtskleidung getragen werden
41Kleide deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Söhne mit ihren Gewändern ein, salbe sie, setze sie ins Priesteramt ein[20] und weihe sie ´mir, dem HERRN`. Sie sollen mir als Priester dienen.42Fertige leinene Unterhosen für sie an, die von den Hüften bis zu den Schenkeln reichen und ihre Scham bedecken.43Aaron und seine Söhne müssen diese Gewänder tragen, wann immer sie das Zelt der Begegnung betreten oder sich dem Altar nähern, um ihren Dienst am Heiligtum zu verrichten. Sonst laden sie Schuld auf sich und müssen sterben. Diese Ordnung gilt Aaron und seinen Nachkommen für alle Zeit.

Das Ephod
6Das Ephod sollen sie aus Gold herstellen und aus [Garnen von] blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und gezwirntem Leinen, in kunstvoller Arbeit. (2Mo 28,12; 2Mo 28,26; 2Mo 28,28; 2Mo 35,27; 3Mo 8,7; 1Sam 2,18; 1Sam 2,28; 1Sam 22,18; Hos 3,4; Sach 3,5)7Zwei verbindende Schulterstücke soll es haben an seinen beiden Enden, und so soll es verbunden werden. (2Mo 39,4)8Und der gewirkte Gürtel, der darauf liegt und mit dem es angebunden wird, soll von der gleichen Arbeit sein, aus dem gleichen Stoff: aus Gold, aus [Garnen] von blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und aus gezwirntem Leinen. Das Brustschild
15Das Brustschild des Rechtsspruchs[1] sollst du in kunstvoller Arbeit anfertigen, in der gleichen Arbeit wie das Ephod sollst du es anfertigen, aus Gold, aus [Garnen von] blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und gezwirntem Leinen sollst du es machen. (2Mo 28,23; 2Mo 28,30; 2Mo 39,8; 2Mo 39,15; 3Mo 8,8)16Viereckig soll es sein und doppelt gelegt, eine Spanne lang und eine Spanne breit. (2Mo 39,9)17Und du sollst es mit eingefassten Steinen besetzen, vier Reihen von Steinen; eine Reihe sei ein Rubin, ein Topas und ein Smaragd, die erste Reihe; (2Mo 39,10; Sach 9,16; Offb 21,19)18die zweite Reihe ein Granat, ein Saphir und ein Diamant; (2Mo 39,11)19die dritte Reihe ein Opal, ein Achat und ein Amethyst; (2Mo 39,12)20die vierte Reihe ein Chrysolith, ein Onyx und ein Jaspis. Das Obergewand zum Ephod
31Und mache das Obergewand zum Ephod ganz aus blauem Purpur. (2Mo 39,22; 1Sam 2,19)32Und oben in der Mitte soll eine Öffnung für den Kopf sein und ein Saum um die Öffnung her, in Weberarbeit, wie der Saum eines Panzerhemds, damit es nicht zerreißt. (2Mo 39,23; 3Mo 10,6; 3Mo 21,10; Joh 19,23)33Und [unten], an seinem Saum, sollst du ringsum Granatäpfel anbringen aus blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin und ringsum goldene Schellen zwischen ihnen; (2Mo 28,15; 2Mo 39,24)34es soll eine goldene Schelle sein, danach ein Granatapfel, und wieder eine goldene Schelle, danach ein Granatapfel, ringsum an dem Saum des Obergewandes. Das goldene Stirnblatt
36Du sollst auch ein Stirnblatt aus reinem Gold anfertigen und in Siegelgravur eingravieren: »Heilig dem HERRN«; (2Mo 19,6; 2Mo 39,30; 3Mo 8,9; Ps 93,5; Sach 14,20; 1Petr 1,16; Offb 7,3; Offb 14,1; Offb 22,4)37und du sollst es anheften mit einer Schnur von blauem Purpur, sodass es am Kopfbund ist; vorn am Kopfbund soll es sein;38und es soll auf Aarons Stirn sein, damit Aaron die Verschuldung in Bezug auf die heiligen Gaben trage, welche die Kinder Israels darbringen, bei allen ihren heiligen Gaben. The ephod
6‘Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen – the work of skilled hands.7It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so that it can be fastened.8Its skilfully woven waistband is to be like it – of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.9‘Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel10in the order of their birth – six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other.11Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings12and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord.13Make gold filigree settings14and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.
The breastpiece
15‘Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions – the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen.16It is to be square – a span[1] long and a span wide – and folded double.17Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl;18the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald;19the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst;20the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper.[2] Mount them in gold filigree settings.21There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.22‘For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.23Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece.24Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece,25and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.26Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod.27Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod.28The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.29‘Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord.30Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.
Other priestly garments
31‘Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth,32with an opening for the head in its centre. There shall be a woven edge like a collar[3] around this opening, so that it will not tear.33Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.34The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate round the hem of the robe.35Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.36‘Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: Holy to the Lord.37Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban.38It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.39‘Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer.40Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honour.41After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.42‘Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh.43Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. ‘This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.16Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.17And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.18And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.19And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.20And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.21And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.22And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the ends of wreathen work of pure gold.23And thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.24And thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate.25And the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt fasten in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod before it.26And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the breastplate in the border thereof, which is in the side of the ephod inward.27And two other rings of gold thou shalt make, and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod.28And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.29And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place , for a memorial before the LORD continually.30And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron' heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.31And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.32And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.33And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:34A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.35And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.36And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.37And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.38And it shall be upon Aaron' forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.39And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.40And for Aaron' sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.41And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest' office.42And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:43And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place ; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.
