1Einige Zeit später stellte Gott Abraham auf die Probe. »Abraham«, rief er ihn. »Ja, Herr«, antwortete Abraham.2»Nimm deinen einzigen Sohn Isaak, den du ´so sehr` liebst«, befahl Gott. »Geh ´mit ihm` in die Gegend Morija. Dort werde ich dir einen Berg zeigen, auf dem du Isaak als Brandopfer darbringen sollst.«3Am nächsten Morgen stand Abraham früh auf und spaltete Holz für das Opferfeuer. Er belud seinen Esel, nahm seinen Sohn Isaak und zwei seiner Knechte mit und machte sich ´mit ihnen` auf den Weg in die Gegend, die Gott ihm genannt hatte.4Am dritten Tag konnte Abraham den Berg, ´den Gott bestimmt hatte`, in der Ferne erkennen.5Er sagte zu seinen Knechten: »Bleibt mit dem Esel hier! Ich gehe mit dem Jungen dort hinauf, um Gott anzubeten. Danach kommen wir wieder zu euch zurück.«6Abraham legte seinem Sohn Isaak das Holz für das Brandopfer auf ´die Schultern`. Er selbst nahm ein Gefäß mit glühenden Kohlen[1] und ein Messer. Dann machten sich die beiden miteinander auf den Weg.7»Vater?«, fragte Isaak. »Ja, mein Sohn«, antwortete Abraham. »Feuer und Holz haben wir, aber wo ist das Lamm für das Opfer?«8»Gott wird schon für ein Opferlamm sorgen, mein Sohn.« So gingen die beiden miteinander weiter.9Als sie zu der Stelle kamen, die Gott ihm gezeigt hatte, errichtete Abraham dort einen Altar und schichtete das Holz darauf. Er fesselte seinen Sohn Isaak und legte ihn oben auf den Holzstoß.10Abraham griff nach dem Messer, um seinen Sohn zu töten.11Da rief der Engel des HERRN vom Himmel: »Abraham! Abraham!« »Ja, Herr«, antwortete er.12»Halt ein! Tu dem Jungen nichts!«, sagte der Engel. »Ich weiß jetzt, dass du Ehrfurcht vor ´mir, deinem` Gott, hast, denn du hättest für mich nicht einmal deinen einzigen Sohn verschont.«13Abraham schaute sich um und entdeckte hinter sich einen Schafbock[2], der sich mit seinen Hörnern im Gestrüpp verfangen hatte. Er ging hin, packte den Schafbock und brachte ihn anstelle seines Sohnes als Brandopfer dar.14Abraham nannte die Stelle »Der HERR sorgt vor«. Noch heute sagt man: »Auf dem Berg des HERRN ist vorgesorgt.«[3]15Ein zweites Mal rief der Engel des HERRN vom Himmel aus nach Abraham.16Er sagte: »Ich, der HERR, schwöre bei mir selbst: Weil du mir gehorsam warst und nicht einmal deinen einzigen Sohn verschont hast,17will ich dich überreich segnen. Deine Nachkommen lasse ich so zahlreich werden wie die Sterne am Himmel und wie den Sand am Meer. Sie werden ihre Feinde besiegen und deren Städte erobern.[4]18Bei allen Völkern der Welt werden die Menschen zueinander sagen: ›Gott segne dich wie die Nachkommen Abrahams!‹[5] Dies ist der Lohn dafür, dass du meinem Befehl gehorcht hast.«19Abraham ´und Isaak` kehrten zu den Knechten zurück und machten sich gemeinsam mit ihnen auf den Weg zurück nach Beerscheba. Dort blieb Abraham wohnen.
Die Nachkommen von Abrahams Bruder Nahor
20Bald danach erhielt Abraham die Nachricht, dass Milka, die Frau seines Bruders Nahor, ´acht` Söhne bekommen hatte:21der älteste hieß Uz, der zweitälteste[6] Bus, ´auf ihn folgten` Kemuël – von dem die Aramäer abstammen –,22Kesed, Haso, Pildasch, Jidlaf und Betuël.23Betuël war der Vater von Rebekka. Diese acht Söhne hatte Abrahams Bruder Nahor mit seiner Frau Milka.24Nahors Nebenfrau Rëuma hatte ebenfalls ´mehrere` Söhne geboren. ´Sie hießen` Tebach, Gaham, Tahasch und Maacha.
1Und es geschah nach diesen Begebenheiten, da prüfte Gott den Abraham und sprach zu ihm: Abraham! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich. (2Mo 3,4; 5Mo 8,2; 1Sam 3,4; 1Sam 3,8; 1Sam 3,10; 2Chr 32,31; Jak 1,12; 1Petr 1,6)2Und er sprach: Nimm doch deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, den du lieb hast, Isaak, und geh hin in das Land Morija und bringe ihn dort zum Brandopfer dar auf einem der Berge, den ich dir nennen werde! (1Sam 7,12; Ps 22,5; Dan 3,17; Dan 3,28; Dan 6,23)15Und der Engel des HERRN rief Abraham zum zweiten Mal vom Himmel her zu, (1Mo 21,17)16und er sprach: Ich habe bei mir selbst geschworen, spricht der HERR: Weil du dies getan und deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, nicht verschont hast, (Jes 45,23; Lk 1,73; Hebr 6,13)17darum will ich dich reichlich segnen und deinen Samen mächtig mehren, wie die Sterne am Himmel und wie den Sand am Ufer des Meeres; und dein Same soll das Tor seiner Feinde in Besitz nehmen,[1] (1Mo 12,2; 1Mo 15,5; 1Mo 24,60; 1Kön 4,20; Ps 127,5; Hebr 6,14)18und in deinem Samen sollen alle Völker der Erde gesegnet werden, weil du meiner Stimme gehorsam warst! (1Mo 12,3; 1Mo 26,4; Jer 7,23; Apg 3,25; Gal 3,8)19Und Abraham kehrte wieder zurück zu seinen Knechten; und sie machten sich auf und zogen miteinander nach Beerscheba; und Abraham wohnte in Beerscheba. Die Nachkommen Nahors
20Und es geschah nach diesen Begebenheiten, da wurde Abraham berichtet: Siehe, auch Milka hat deinem Bruder Nahor Söhne geboren: (1Mo 11,27; 1Mo 11,29)21Uz, den Erstgeborenen, und Bus, seinen Bruder, und Kemuel, den Vater des Aram, (1Mo 10,23; Hi 1,1; Hi 32,2)22und Kesed und Haso und Pildasch und Jidlaph und Bethuel. (1Mo 24,15; 1Mo 24,47; 1Mo 25,20)23Bethuel aber hatte die Rebekka gezeugt. Milka gebar diese acht dem Nahor, dem Bruder Abrahams. (1Mo 11,29; 1Mo 24,15; 1Mo 24,24)24Und seine Nebenfrau mit Namen Rehuma gebar auch, nämlich Tebach, Gaham, Tahasch und Maacha. (1Mo 25,6; 1Kön 11,3; 1Chr 1,32; Hl 6,8)
1Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, ‘Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied.2Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love – Isaac – and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain that I will show you.’3Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.4On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.5He said to his servants, ‘Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.’6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,7Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?’ ‘Yes, my son?’ Abraham replied. ‘The fire and wood are here,’ Isaac said, ‘but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?’8Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ And the two of them went on together.9When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.10Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.11But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, ‘Abraham! And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’15The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time16and said, ‘I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,17I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,18and through your offspring[2] all nations on earth will be blessed,[3] because you have obeyed me.’19Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.
Nahor’s sons
20Some time later Abraham was told, ‘Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:21Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram),22Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.’23Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.24His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.
