Nach Saras Tod kauft Abraham eine Grabstätte

1 Sara wurde 127 Jahre alt. 2 Sie starb in Kirjat-Arba im Land Kanaan. - Kirjat-Arba heißt heute Hebron. - Abraham beweinte sie und hielt die Totenklage. 3 Dann verließ er das Zelt, in dem sie lag, ´und ging zum Stadttor von Kirjat-Arba`, um mit den Hetitern zu reden. Er sagte zu ihnen: 4 »Ich lebe hier nur als Gast und besitze kein Land. Bitte verkauft mir ein Grundstück als Grabstätte für meine Familie, damit ich dort meine verstorbene Frau bestatten kann^[1].« 5 Die Hetiter antworteten: 6 »Wir machen dir einen Vorschlag, Herr! Wir achten dich als einen Mann, dem Gott Macht und Reichtum verliehen hat.^[2] Suche dir die beste unserer Grabstätten aus und bestatte deine Frau dort. Jeder von uns stellt dir gerne sein Grab zur Verfügung.« 7 Abraham stand auf, verneigte sich vor ihnen^[3] 8 und sagte: »Wenn ihr also damit einverstanden seid, dass ich meine verstorbene Frau hier bei euch bestatte^[4], dann legt bei Efron, dem Sohn Zohars, ein gutes Wort für mich ein. 9 ´Bittet ihn`, dass er mir seine Höhle überlässt, die am Rand seines Grundstücks in Machpela liegt. Er soll sie mir für den vollen Preis verkaufen, damit ich hier bei euch ein Familiengrab besitze.« 10 Efron saß selbst unter den Hetitern, die sich beim Stadttor versammelt hatten. Vor allen Anwesenden sagte er zu Abraham: 11 »Nicht doch, mein Herr! Bitte höre mich an. Ich schenke dir das Grundstück mitsamt der Höhle! Meine Landsleute hier sind Zeugen: Du brauchst mir nichts zu bezahlen und kannst deine Frau dort bestatten.« 12 Abraham verneigte sich ´erneut` vor den Hetitern^[5] 13 und sagte vor ihnen allen zu Efron: »Bitte weise mein Angebot nicht zurück. Ich will das Grundstück bezahlen. Nimm das Geld von mir an und lass mich dort meine Frau beerdigen.« 14 Efron erwiderte: 15 »Mein Herr, dann erlaube mir, zu sagen, dass das Land vierhundert Silberstücke wert ist! Wegen eines solch kleinen Betrages müssen wir beide nicht lange verhandeln!^[6] Du sollst doch deine Frau bestatten können!« 16 Abraham ging darauf ein und wog die Summe ab, die Efron vor den versammelten Hetitern angegeben hatte: vierhundert Silberstücke nach dem Gewicht, das damals bei Händlern üblich war. 17 So wechselte Efrons Grundstück, das bei Machpela in der Nähe von Mamre lag, mitsamt der Höhle und den darauf stehenden Bäumen den Besitzer. 18 Es ging an Abraham über, und die Männer, die sich beim Stadttor versammelt hatten, waren Zeugen ´des Kaufs`. 19 Dort in der Höhle Machpela bei Mamre, in der Nähe von Hebron im Land Kanaan, bestattete Abraham seine Frau Sara. 20 Das Grundstück samt der Höhle war seitdem von den Hetitern als Grabstätte für Abrahams Familie rechtmäßig anerkannt.

3 Danach stand Abraham auf von seiner Toten und redete mit den Söhnen Hets und sprach: (1Mo 10,15; Hi 2,13; Kla 3,28) 4 Ich bin ein Fremdling und Einwohner ohne Bürgerrecht^[1] bei euch; gebt mir ein Erbbegräbnis^[2] bei euch, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begraben kann! 5 Da antworteten die Hetiter dem Abraham und sprachen zu ihm: (1Mo 23,3) 6 Höre uns, mein Herr, du bist ein Fürst Gottes mitten unter uns! Begrabe deine Tote in dem besten unserer Gräber. 7 Da stand Abraham auf und verneigte sich vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Hetitern. (1Mo 18,2; Röm 13,7; 1Petr 2,17) 8 Und er redete mit ihnen und sprach: Wenn es euer Wille ist, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begrabe, so hört mich und bittet für mich Ephron, den Sohn Zohars, (1Kön 2,17; Lk 7,3) 9 dass er mir die Höhle Machpelah gebe, die ihm gehört und die am Ende seines Ackers liegt; um den vollen Betrag soll er sie mir zum Erbbegräbnis geben in eurer Mitte! (Jer 32,9) 17 So wurde der Acker Ephrons bei Machpelah, der Mamre gegenüberliegt, der Acker samt der Höhle, die darin ist, auch alle Bäume auf dem Acker und innerhalb aller seiner Grenzen, 18 dem Abraham als Eigentum bestätigt vor den Augen der Hetiter und aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt eingingen. The death of Sarah

1 Sarah lived to be a hundred and twenty-seven years old. 2 She died at Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her. 3 Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites.^[1] He said, 4 ‘I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so that I can bury my dead.’ 5 The Hittites replied to Abraham, 6 ‘Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will refuse you his tomb for burying your dead.’ 7 Then Abraham rose and bowed down before the people of the land, the Hittites. 8 He said to them, ‘If you are willing to let me bury my dead, then listen to me and intercede with Ephron son of Zohar on my behalf 9 so that he will sell me the cave of Machpelah, which belongs to him and is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price as a burial site among you.’ 10 Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people and he replied to Abraham in the hearing of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city. 11 ‘No, my lord,’ he said. ‘Listen to me; I give^[2] you the field, and I give^[3] you the cave that is in it. I give^[4] it to you in the presence of my people. Bury your dead.’ 12 Again Abraham bowed down before the people of the land 13 and he said to Ephron in their hearing, ‘Listen to me, if you will. I will pay the price of the field. Accept it from me so that I can bury my dead there.’ 14 Ephron answered Abraham, 15 ‘Listen to me, my lord; the land is worth four hundred shekels^[5] of silver, but what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.’ 16 Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weight current among the merchants. 17 So Ephron’s field in Machpelah near Mamre – both the field and the cave in it, and all the trees within the borders of the field – was legally made over 18 to Abraham as his property in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city. 19 Afterwards Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre (which is at Hebron) in the land of Canaan. 20 So the field and the cave in it were legally made over to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site.

1 And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah. 2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. 3 And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying, 4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight. 5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him, 6 Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead. 7 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth. 8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar, 9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. 10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, 11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. 12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land. 13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it , I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there. 14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him, 15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. 16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. 17 And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure 18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. 19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. 20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
