1Der HERR wandte sich Sara zu, wie er gesagt hatte, und machte sein Versprechen wahr:2Sara wurde schwanger und brachte einen Sohn zur Welt. Abraham wurde trotz seines hohen Alters noch einmal Vater, genau zu der Zeit, die Gott ihm genannt hatte.3Er gab dem Sohn, den Sara ihm geschenkt hatte, den Namen Isaak (»Man lacht«).4Als Isaak acht Tage alt war, beschnitt Abraham ihn, genau wie Gott es angeordnet hatte.5Abraham war hundert Jahre alt, als sein Sohn Isaak zur Welt kam.6»Gott lässt mich wieder lachen«, sagte Sara. »Jeder, der davon hört, wird mit mir vor Freude lachen[1]!7Wer hätte Abraham jemals vorausgesagt, dass ich eines Tages ein Kind stillen würde! Aber jetzt in seinem Alter habe ich ihm noch einen Sohn geboren!«8Isaak wuchs heran und brauchte nicht mehr gestillt zu werden. Nachdem er entwöhnt war, feierte Abraham ein großes Fest.
Hagar und Ismael müssen gehen
9´Eines Tages` sah Sara, wie Ismael, der Sohn von Abraham und der Ägypterin Hagar, fröhlich lachte[2].10Sie forderte Abraham auf: »Jag diese Sklavin mitsamt ihrem Sohn fort! Das Sklavenkind soll nicht mit meinem Sohn Isaak das Erbe teilen!«11Abraham missfiel das sehr, denn schließlich war auch Ismael sein Sohn.12Aber Gott sagte zu Abraham: »Gräme dich nicht wegen deines Sohnes und deiner Sklavin! Tu alles, was Sara von dir verlangt. Denn nur Isaaks Nachkommen sollen als deine rechtmäßigen Nachkommen gelten.[3]13Ich werde aber auch den Sohn deiner Sklavin zum Stammvater eines Volkes machen, weil er von dir abstammt.«14Am nächsten Morgen stand Abraham früh auf. Er holte Brot und einen Schlauch mit Wasser und legte Hagar beides auf die Schultern. Dann schickte er sie zusammen mit Ismael fort. Hagar irrte ziellos in der Wüste bei Beerscheba umher.15Als das Wasser im Schlauch zur Neige ging, ließ sie den Jungen unter einem der Sträucher zurück,16ging ein gutes Stück weiter[4] und kauerte sich auf den Boden. »Ich kann nicht mit ansehen, wie das Kind stirbt«, klagte sie und brach in Tränen aus[5].17Aber Gott hörte das Stöhnen des Jungen, und der Engel Gottes rief vom Himmel aus nach Hagar. »Warum bist du so verzweifelt, Hagar?«, fragte er. »Du brauchst keine Angst zu haben. Gott hat gehört, wie der Junge dort unter dem Strauch stöhnt.18Geh zu ihm, nimm ihn an die Hand und hilf ihm auf! Ich will ihn zum Stammvater eines großen Volkes machen.«19Dann öffnete Gott ihr die Augen, und sie entdeckte einen Brunnen. Sie ging hin, füllte den Schlauch mit Wasser und gab Ismael zu trinken.20Gott kümmerte sich auch weiterhin um den Jungen. Er wuchs in der Wüste auf und wurde ein Bogenschütze.21Ismael ließ sich in der Wüste Paran nieder, und seine Mutter gab ihm eine Ägypterin zur Frau.
Abraham und Abimelech schließen einen Vertrag
22Um diese Zeit kam ´König` Abimelech mit seinem Heerführer Pichol zu Abraham und sagte zu ihm: »Gott ist auf deiner Seite ´und lässt dir alles gelingen`, was du tust.23Schwöre mir jetzt bei Gott, dass du mich, meinen Sohn und meine Nachkommen niemals hintergehen wirst! Ich habe dir immer Gutes erwiesen, darum behandle mich und mein Land, in dem du als Gast lebst, genauso gut.«24»Ich bin bereit, dir diesen Schwur zu leisten«, antwortete Abraham.25´Aber bevor sie den Vertrag besiegelten`, beschwerte Abraham sich bei Abimelech, dass dessen Knechte ihm einen Brunnen weggenommen hatten.26»Davon höre ich heute zum ersten Mal«, erwiderte Abimelech. »Ich weiß nicht, wer das getan hat. Bis jetzt hast du mir nichts davon erzählt.«27Danach besiegelten die beiden ihren Vertrag, und Abraham gab Abimelech Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder.28Dann sonderte Abraham zusätzlich sieben Lämmer aus seiner Herde aus.29»Was hast du mit diesen sieben Lämmern vor?«, fragte Abimelech.30Abraham antwortete: »Ich will, dass du sie von mir annimmst! Damit bestätigst du, dass ich diesen Brunnen gegraben habe ´und er mir gehört`.«31Seit dieser Zeit wird der Ort Beerscheba (»Schwurbrunnen«)[6] genannt, weil Abraham und Abimelech hier ihren Vertrag mit einem Schwur besiegelt hatten.32Danach brachen Abimelech und sein Heerführer Pichol von Beerscheba auf und kehrten in die Philisterstadt Gerar[7] zurück.33Abraham pflanzte in Beerscheba eine Tamariske. Dort rief er den HERRN, den ewigen Gott, bei seinem Namen[8] an.34Er lebte noch lange Zeit als Gast im Land der Philister.
1Und der HERR suchte Sarah heim, wie er verheißen hatte, und der HERR handelte an Sarah, wie er geredet hatte. (1Mo 17,19; 1Mo 18,10; 1Mo 18,14; 1Mo 50,24; 4Mo 23,19; Rut 1,6; Gal 4,23)2Und Sarah wurde schwanger und gebar dem Abraham einen Sohn in seinem Alter, zur bestimmten Zeit, wie ihm Gott verheißen hatte. (2Kön 4,16; Röm 9,9; Gal 4,4)3Und Abraham gab seinem Sohn, der ihm geboren wurde, den ihm Sarah gebar, den Namen Isaak. (1Mo 17,17; 1Mo 17,19; 1Mo 21,6)4Und Abraham beschnitt Isaak, seinen Sohn, als er acht Tage alt war, wie es ihm Gott geboten hatte. (1Mo 17,10; Apg 7,8)5Und Abraham war 100 Jahre alt, als ihm sein Sohn Isaak geboren wurde. (1Mo 17,1; Röm 4,19)6Und Sarah sprach: Gott hat mir ein Lachen bereitet; wer es hören wird, der wird mir zulachen! (1Mo 18,12; Ps 126,2; Jes 54,1)7Und sie sprach: Wer hätte das dem Abraham verkündet, dass Sarah Kinder stillt, dass ich ihm einen Sohn geboren habe in seinem Alter? (Ps 86,10; Jes 66,8)8Und das Kind wuchs heran und wurde entwöhnt. Und Abraham machte ein großes Mahl an dem Tag, als Isaak entwöhnt wurde. (1Sam 1,22)
Die Austreibung Hagars und Ismaels
9Und Sarah sah, dass der Sohn der Hagar, der ägyptischen Magd, den sie dem Abraham geboren hatte, Mutwillen trieb. (Spr 20,11)10Da sprach sie zu Abraham: Treibe diese Magd hinaus mit ihrem Sohn; denn der Sohn dieser Magd soll nicht erben mit meinem Sohn Isaak! (Spr 22,10; Gal 4,21)11Dieses Wort missfiel Abraham sehr um seines Sohnes willen. (1Mo 17,18; 2Sam 19,1)12Aber Gott sprach zu Abraham: Es soll dir nicht leidtun wegen des Knaben und wegen deiner Magd! Höre in allem, was Sarah dir sagt, auf ihre Stimme! Denn in Isaak soll dir ein Same berufen werden. (Jes 46,10; Röm 9,7; Hebr 11,18)13Doch ich will auch den Sohn der Magd zu einem Volk machen, weil er dein Same ist. (1Mo 16,10; 1Mo 17,20)14Da stand Abraham am Morgen früh auf und nahm Brot und einen Schlauch voll Wasser, gab es Hagar und legte es auf ihre Schulter; er gab ihr auch den Knaben und schickte sie fort. Und sie ging und irrte umher in der Wüste von Beerscheba. (1Sam 15,12; 1Kön 19,3)15Als nun das Wasser im Schlauch ausgegangen war, warf sie den Knaben unter einen Strauch, (2Mo 15,22)16und sie ging hin und setzte sich gegenüber, einen Bogenschuss weit entfernt; denn sie sprach: Ich kann das Sterben des Knaben nicht mit ansehen! Und sie saß ihm gegenüber, erhob ihre Stimme und weinte. (1Mo 44,34; Est 8,6; Ps 56,9)17Da erhörte Gott die Stimme des Knaben, und der Engel Gottes rief der Hagar vom Himmel her zu und sprach zu ihr: Was ist mit dir, Hagar? Fürchte dich nicht; denn Gott hat die Stimme des Knaben erhört, da, wo er liegt. (1Mo 16,8; 1Mo 16,11; Ps 34,19)18Steh auf, nimm den Knaben und halte ihn fest an deiner Hand, denn ich will ihn zu einem großen Volk machen! (1Mo 25,12)19Und Gott öffnete ihr die Augen, dass sie einen Wasserbrunnen sah. Da ging sie hin und füllte den Schlauch mit Wasser und gab dem Knaben zu trinken. (4Mo 22,31; Ps 10,14; Ps 107,4)20Und Gott war mit dem Knaben; der wuchs heran und wohnte in der Wüste und wurde ein Bogenschütze. (1Mo 39,2; 1Chr 10,3)21Und er wohnte in der Wüste Paran, und seine Mutter nahm ihm eine Frau aus dem Land Ägypten. (1Mo 14,6; 1Mo 16,1)
Der Bund Abrahams mit Abimelech in Beerscheba
22Und es geschah zur selben Zeit, da redete Abimelech in Begleitung seines Heerführers Pichol mit Abraham und sprach: Gott ist mit dir in allem, was du tust. (1Mo 20,15; 1Mo 21,20; 1Mo 26,28; Jos 1,5; Jos 1,9)23So schwöre mir nun hier bei Gott, dass du weder an mir noch an meinen Kindern, noch an meinen Kindeskindern treulos handeln wirst. Dieselbe Freundschaft, die ich dir bewiesen habe, sollst du auch an mir beweisen und an dem Land, in dem du ein Fremdling bist! (Jos 2,12; 1Sam 24,22; Ps 105,11; Hebr 11,9)24Da sprach Abraham: Ich will schwören! (1Mo 26,31; 1Mo 31,53; Hebr 6,16)25Und Abraham stellte Abimelech zur Rede wegen des Wasserbrunnens, den die Knechte Abimelechs mit Gewalt genommen hatten. (1Mo 26,15; 2Mo 2,17)26Da antwortete Abimelech: Ich weiß nichts davon; wer hat das getan? Du hast mir gar nichts erzählt, und ich habe auch nichts davon gehört bis zu diesem Tag! (1Mo 13,7)27Da nahm Abraham Schafe und Rinder und gab sie Abimelech, und sie machten beide einen Bund miteinander. (1Mo 14,13; 1Mo 26,28; 1Mo 31,44; 1Sam 18,3)28Und Abraham stellte sieben Lämmer beiseite. (1Mo 21,30)29Da sprach Abimelech zu Abraham: Was sollen die sieben Lämmer hier, die du beiseitegestellt hast? (1Mo 33,8; 1Sam 15,14)30Er antwortete: Du sollst sieben Lämmer von meiner Hand nehmen, damit sie ein Zeugnis für mich seien, dass ich diesen Brunnen gegraben habe! (1Mo 31,48; 1Mo 31,52)31Daher wird der Ort Beerscheba genannt, weil sie beide dort einander schworen. (1Mo 26,33)32Als sie aber den Bund in Beerscheba geschlossen hatten, machten sich Abimelech und Pichol, sein Heerführer, auf und zogen wieder in das Land der Philister. (1Mo 26,8; 2Mo 13,17; Ri 13,1)33[Abraham] aber pflanzte eine Tamariske in Beerscheba und rief dort den Namen des HERRN, des ewigen Gottes, an. (1Mo 12,8; 2Mo 6,2; 5Mo 33,26; 1Chr 21,26; Ps 90,2; Ps 145,18; Jes 40,28; Jes 46,9)34Und Abraham hielt sich lange Zeit als Fremdling im Land der Philister auf. (1Chr 29,15; Hebr 11,13; 1Petr 2,11)
1Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.2Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.3Abraham gave the name Isaac[1] to the son Sarah bore him.4When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.5Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.6Sarah said, ‘God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.’7And she added, ‘Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.’
Hagar and Ishmael sent away
8The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.9But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,10and she said to Abraham, ‘Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.’11The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.12But God said to him, ‘Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring[2] will be reckoned.13I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring.’14Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.15When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.16Then she went off and sat down about a bow-shot away, for she thought, ‘I cannot watch the boy die.’ And as she sat there, she[3] began to sob.17God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, ‘What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.18Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.’19Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.20God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.21While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.
The treaty at Beersheba
22At that time Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, ‘God is with you in everything you do.23Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness that I have shown to you.’24Abraham said, ‘I swear it.’25Then Abraham complained to Abimelek about a well of water that Abimelek’s servants had seized.26But Abimelek said, ‘I don’t know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today.’27So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty.28Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock,29and Abimelek asked Abraham, ‘What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?’30He replied, ‘Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well.’31So that place was called Beersheba,[4] because the two men swore an oath there.32After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines.33Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.34And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time.
