1 És volt egy ember a Benjámin [nemzetségébõl,] kinek neve vala Kis, Abielnek fia, ki Sérornak fia, ki Bekoráthnak fia, ki Afiákhnak fia, ki Benjámin [házából] való volt; igen tehetõs ember vala.2 És volt néki egy Saul nevû fia, ifjú és szép; õ nála Izráel fiai közül senki sem volt szebb; vállától felfelé magasabb vala az egész népnél.3 És elvesztek vala Kisnek, a Saul atyjának szamarai, és monda Kis Saulnak, az õ fiának: Végy magad mellé egyet a szolgák közül, és kelj fel, menj el, keresd meg a szamarakat.4 És bejárá az Efraim hegységét, és bejárta Salisa földét, de nem találták meg; és bejárták Sáálim földét, de nem voltak ott; és bejárá Benjámin földét, de nem találták meg.5 Mikor pedig a Suf földére jutottak, monda Saul az õ szolgájának, a ki vele volt: Jer, térjünk vissza, nehogy atyám elvetve a szamarak gondját, miattunk aggódjék.6 Az pedig monda néki: Ímé az Istennek embere most e városban van, és az az ember tiszteletben áll; mind az, a mit mond, beteljesedik. Most azért menjünk el oda, talán megmondja nékünk is a mi útunkat, hogy merre menjünk.7 És monda Saul az õ szolgájának: Elmehetünk oda, de mit vigyünk ez embernek? mert a kenyér elfogyott tarisznyánkból, és nincsen mit vigyünk ajándékba az Isten emberének; mi van nálunk?8 A szolga pedig felele ismét Saulnak, és monda: Ímé van nálam egy ezüst siklusnak negyedrésze, oda adom ezt az Isten emberének, hogy megmondja nékünk a mi útunkat.9 Régen Izráelben azt mondák, mikor valaki elment Istent megkérdezni: Jertek, menjünk el a nézõhöz; mert a kit most prófétának neveznek, régen nézõnek hívták.10 És Saul monda az õ szolgájának: Helyesen beszélsz; jer, menjünk el. Elmenének azért a városba, hol az Istennek embere volt.11 A mint pedig a város felhágóján menének, leányokkal találkozának, a kik vizet meríteni jöttek ki, és mondának nékik: Itt van-é a nézõ?12 És azok felelének nékik, és mondának: Igen, amott van elõtted, siess azért, mert ma jött a városba, mivel ma lesz a népnek véres áldozata ím e hegyen.13 A mint a városba mentek, azonnal megtaláljátok, mielõtt felmenne a hegyre, hogy egyék; mert a nép nem eszik addig, míg õ el nem jön, mivel a véres áldozatot õ áldja meg, és azután esznek a meghívottak. Azért most menjetek fel, mert épen most fogjátok õt megtalálni.14 Felmenének azért a városba. És mikor a városban menének, ímé akkor jöve ki Sámuel velök szemben, hogy a hegyre felmenjen.15 És az Úr kijelentette Sámuelnek füleibe, egy nappal az elõtt, hogy Saul eljött, mondván:16 Holnap ilyenkor küldök hozzád egy embert a Benjámin földérõl, és kend fel õt fejedelmül az én népem, Izráel felett, hogy megszabadítsa az én népemet a Filiszteusok kezébõl; mert megtekintém az én népemet, mivel felhatott az õ kiáltása hozzám.17 Mikor pedig Sámuel meglátta Sault, szóla néki az Úr: Ímé ez az az ember, a kirõl szólottam néked, õ uralkodjék az én népem felett.18 Akkor Saul a kapu alatt Sámuelhez közeledék és monda: Ugyan mondd meg nékem, hol van itt a nézõ háza?19 Sámuel pedig felele Saulnak, és monda: Én vagyok az a nézõ; menj fel elõttem a hegyre, és egyetek ma én velem, reggel pedig elbocsátlak téged, és megmondom néked mind azt, a mi szívedben van.20 A szamarak miatt pedig, melyek tõled ezelõtt három nappal elvesztek, ne aggódjál, mert megtaláltattak. És kié leend mind az, a mi Izráelben becses? Avagy nem a tiéd és a te atyádnak egész házáé?21 És Saul felele, és monda: Avagy nem Benjáminita vagyok-é én, Izráelnek legkisebb törzsébõl való? És az én nemzetségem nem legkisebb-é Benjámin törzsének nemzetségei között? Miért szólasz tehát hozzám ilyen módon?22 Akkor Sámuel megfogta Sault és az õ szolgáját, és bevezette õket az étkezõ helyre; és nékik adta a fõhelyet a meghívottak között, kik mintegy harminczan valának.23 És monda Sámuel a szakácsnak: Hozd elõ azt a darabot, melyet odaadtam néked, és a melyrõl azt mondám, hogy tartsd magadnál.24 Akkor a szakács felhozta a czombot és a mi rajta volt, és Saul elé tevé. És õ monda: Ímhol a megmaradt rész, vedd magad elé és egyél, mert erre az idõre tétetett az el számodra, mikor mondám: Meghívtam a népet. 1There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite, a man of wealth. (1Sám 14,51; 1Krón 8,33; 1Krón 9,39)2And he had a son whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people. (1Sám 8,16; 1Sám 10,23)3Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. So Kish said to Saul his son, “Take one of the young men with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys.”4And he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they did not find them. And they passed through the land of Shaalim, but they were not there. Then they passed through the land of Benjamin, but did not find them. (Józs 24,33; 2Kir 4,42)5When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant[1] who was with him, “Come, let us go back, lest my father cease to care about the donkeys and become anxious about us.” (1Sám 10,2)6But he said to him, “Behold, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor; all that he says comes true. For the bread in our sacks is gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. (1Móz 25,22)10And Saul said to his servant, “Well said; come, let us go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.11As they went up the hill to the city, they met young women coming out to draw water and said to them, “Is the seer here?” (1Móz 24,11)12They answered, “He is; behold, he is just ahead of you. Hurry. He has come just now to the city, because the people have a sacrifice today on the high place. (1Móz 31,54; 1Sám 10,5; 1Sám 16,2; 1Sám 20,29; 1Kir 3,2)13As soon as you enter the city you will find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat. For the people will not eat till he comes, since he must bless the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited will eat. Now go up, for you will meet him immediately.”14So they went up to the city. As they were entering the city, they saw Samuel coming out toward them on his way up to the high place.15Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: (Ruth 4,4; 1Sám 15,1; ApCsel 13,21)16“Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince[3] over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen[4] my people, because their cry has come to me.” (2Móz 2,25; 2Móz 3,7; 2Móz 3,9; 1Sám 10,1)17When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.” (1Sám 16,12)18Then Saul approached Samuel in the gate and said, “Tell me where is the house of the seer?”19Samuel answered Saul, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for today you shall eat with me, and in the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is on your mind.20As for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them, for they have been found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for you and for all your father’s house?” (1Sám 9,3)21Saul answered, “Am I not a Benjaminite, from the least of the tribes of Israel? And is not my clan the humblest of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? (2Móz 29,22; 2Móz 29,27; 3Móz 7,32; Ez 24,4)25And when they came down from the high place into the city, a bed was spread for Saul on the roof, and he lay down to sleep.[6] (5Móz 22,8; 2Sám 11,2; 2Sám 16,22; Neh 8,16; Mt 24,17; ApCsel 10,9)26Then at the break of dawn[7] Samuel called to Saul on the roof, “Up, that I may send you on your way.” So Saul arose, and both he and Samuel went out into the street.27As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to pass on before us, and when he has passed on, stop here yourself for a while, that I may make known to you the word of God.”
