Hoffnung für alle

6.

1 Wenn du mit einem mächtigen Herrn am Tisch sitzt, dann bedenke, wen du vor dir hast! 2 Beherrsche dich, selbst wenn du heißhungrig bist! 3 Stürze dich nicht auf seine Leckerbissen, denn wenn du meinst, sie seien dir zu Ehren aufgetischt, täuschst du dich selbst^[1].

4 Versuche nicht, mit aller Gewalt reich zu werden; sei klug genug, darauf zu verzichten! 5 Schneller, als ein Adler fliegen kann, ist dein Geld plötzlich weg – wie gewonnen, so zerronnen!

6 Iss nicht mit einem Geizhals, sei nicht begierig nach seinen Leckerbissen, 7 denn er ist falsch und berechnend. »Iss und trink nur!«, fordert er dich auf, aber in Wirklichkeit gönnt er dir nichts. 8 Sobald du es merkst, kommt dir das Essen wieder hoch; dann waren all deine freundlichen Worte umsonst! 9 Versuche nicht, einem Dummkopf etwas zu erklären; er wird deinen guten Rat ohnehin nur verachten!

10 Versetze keine alten Grenzsteine, mache den Waisen niemals ihr Eigentum streitig! 11 Denn in Gott haben sie einen starken Beschützer, er selbst wird gegen dich auftreten und ihnen Recht verschaffen. 12 Sei offen für Ermahnung und hör genau zu, wenn du etwas lernen kannst!

13 Erspare deinem Kind die harte Strafe nicht! Ein paar Hiebe werden es nicht umbringen. 14 Im Gegenteil: Du rettest sein Leben damit!

15 Mein Sohn, wenn du weise bist, dann freue ich mich darüber. 16 Wenn deine Worte zeigen, was Gutes in dir steckt, bin ich überglücklich.

17 Beneide nicht die Menschen, die Schuld auf sich laden; sondern setze stets alles daran, dem HERRN mit Ehrfurcht zu begegnen! 18 Dann hast du eine sichere Zukunft, und deine Hoffnung wird nicht enttäuscht.

19 Hör gut zu, mein Sohn, und werde weise! Bemühe dich, auf dem rechten Weg zu bleiben! 20 Halte dich fern von den Weinsäufern und maßlosen Schlemmern! 21 Auf sie wartet die Armut; denn wer bloß isst, trinkt und schläft, hat bald nichts als Lumpen am Leib.

22 Hör auf deinen Vater und deine Mutter, denn sie haben dir das Leben geschenkt! Verachte sie auch dann nicht, wenn sie alt geworden sind! 23 Bemühe dich um Wahrheit, egal was es kostet. Wenn du Weisheit, Selbstbeherrschung und Einsicht erworben hast, dann gib sie nie wieder auf! 24 Der Vater eines zuverlässigen Sohnes hat allen Grund zur Freude. Wie froh macht doch ein kluger Sohn! 25 Darum sorge dafür, dass deine Eltern stolz auf dich sind. Deine Mutter, die dich geboren hat, soll sich glücklich schätzen!

26 Mein Sohn, vertraue dich mir an und nimm dir mein Leben zum Vorbild! 27 Hüte dich vor Huren und Ehebrecherinnen, denn sie sind so gefährlich wie ein tiefer Brunnen – schon mancher hat sich durch sie in den Tod gestürzt. 28 Wie Räuber lauern sie auf neue Opfer und verführen viele zur Untreue.

29 Bei wem sieht man Kummer und Klage? Bei wem Streit und Gejammer? Wer hat Wunden durch grundlose Schlägereien, wer hat trübe Augen? 30 Wer noch spät beim Wein sitzt und jede neue Sorte ausprobiert. 31 Lass dich nicht vom Wein verlocken, wenn er so rötlich schimmert, wenn er im Glas funkelt und so glatt die Kehle hinuntergleitet! 32 Denn zuletzt wirkt er wie der Biss einer giftigen Schlange. 33 Deine Augen sehen seltsame Dinge, deine Gedanken und Gefühle wirbeln durcheinander. 34 Es geht dir wie einem Seekranken auf hoher See – du fühlst dich wie im Mastkorb eines schaukelnden Schiffes. 35 »Man muss mich geschlagen haben«, sagst du, »aber es hat mir nicht wehgetan; ich bin verprügelt worden, aber ich habe nichts davon gemerkt! Wann wache ich endlich aus meinem Rausch auf? Ich brauche wieder ein Glas Wein!«

1 Si tu es à table avec un dirigeant, considère bien qui tu as devant toi^[1]! 2 Réfrène ton appétit si tu es un glouton, 3 ne te laisse pas tenter par ses bons plats, car il se pourrait que ces mets soient décevants. 4 Ne t’épuise pas pour t’enrichir, refuse même d’y penser^[2]! 5 A peine as-tu fixé tes regards sur la fortune que, déjà, elle s’est évanouie, car elle se fait des ailes et s’envole comme l’aigle en plein ciel. 6 Ne te laisse pas inviter par quelqu’un qui te regarde d’un mauvais œil, et ne convoite pas ses bons plats, 7 car, au fond de lui, il est calculateur. « Mange et bois », te dira-t-il, mais son cœur n’est pas avec toi. 8 Le morceau que tu as mangé, tu devras le rendre, et c’est en pure perte que tu auras tenu des propos aimables. 9 Ne parle pas à un insensé, il mépriserait le bon sens de tes paroles. 10 Ne déplace pas les anciennes bornes et n’empiète pas sur les champs des orphelins^[3], (5Mo 19,14; Spr 15,25; Spr 22,28) 11 car ils ont un puissant protecteur qui défendrait leur cause contre toi. 12 Ouvre ton cœur à l’instruction, et tes oreilles à l’enseignement porteur de connaissance. 13 N’hésite pas à corriger le jeune enfant; si tu lui donnes des coups de bâton, il n’en mourra pas. 14 Bien plutôt, par des coups de bâton, tu le sauveras du séjour des morts. 15 Mon fils, si tu acquiers de la sagesse, mon cœur à moi aussi s’en réjouira. 16 Quand tu parleras avec droiture, du fond de mon être, j’exulterai. 17 N’envie pas le sort de ceux qui font le mal mais en tout temps, crains l’Eternel. 18 Car il y aura un avenir pour toi et ton espérance ne sera pas déçue. 19 Ecoute-moi bien, mon fils, et deviens sage, sois maître de la direction que tu prends. 20 N’imite pas les ivrognes, ni ceux qui se gavent de viande, 21 car l’ivrogne et le gourmand tombent dans la misère, et ceux qui somnolent seront bientôt vêtus de haillons. 22 Ecoute ton père, qui t’a donné la vie, et ne méprise pas ta mère devenue âgée. 23 Acquiers la vérité, la sagesse, l’instruction et le discernement, et ne t’en dessaisis pas. 24 Le père d’un juste est au comble de la joie, qui a donné la vie à un fils sage s’en réjouit. 25 Puissent ton père et ta mère se réjouir à ton sujet! Donne cette joie à celle qui t’a mis au monde.

La femme immorale

26 Mon fils, fais-moi confiance et apprécie la conduite que tu me vois tenir^[4], 27 car la prostituée est une fosse profonde, et la femme immorale un puits étroit^[5]. (Spr 5,5) 28 Comme un brigand, elle se tient aux aguets et elle amène bien des hommes à être infidèles.

L’ivrogne

29 Pour qui les: « Hélas, malheur à moi! »? Pour qui les querelles? Pour qui les plaintes? Pour qui les plaies inutiles? Pour qui les yeux rouges? 30 Pour ceux qui s’attardent à boire du vin, pour ceux qui sont en quête de vin parfumé^[6]. (Spr 9,2) 31 Ne couve pas de tes regards le vin vermeil quand il brille de son éclat dans la coupe: il descend si aisément, 32 mais finit par mordre comme un serpent et te piquer comme une vipère. 33 Tes yeux verront alors des choses étranges et tu laisseras échapper des paroles incohérentes, 34 tu auras l’impression d’être couché en pleine mer, ballotté comme un matelot en haut d’un mât. 35 « On me frappe, diras-tu, mais je n’ai pas mal, on m’a roué de coups, je n’ai rien senti. Quand me réveillerai-je? Il faudra que je trouve encore quelque chose à boire. »
