1 Als Jesus diese Rede beendet hatte, sagte er zu seinen Jüngern: (Mk 14,1; Lk 22,1; Joh 11,47) 2 »Ihr wisst, dass übermorgen das Passahfest beginnt. Dann wird der Menschensohn an die Menschen ausgeliefert und ans Kreuz genagelt werden.« 3 Zu derselben Zeit versammelten sich die obersten Priester und die führenden Männer des Volkes im Palast des Hohenpriesters Kaiphas. 4 Sie berieten darüber, wie sie Jesus heimlich festnehmen und umbringen lassen könnten. 5 Sie waren sich aber einig: »Es darf auf keinen Fall während der Festtage geschehen, damit es nicht zu einem Aufruhr im Volk kommt.« 6 Jesus war in Betanien zu Gast bei Simon, der früher einmal aussätzig gewesen war. (Mk 14,3; Joh 12,1) 7 Während der Mahlzeit kam eine Frau herein. In ihren Händen hielt sie ein Fläschchen kostbares Öl, mit dem sie den Kopf von Jesus salbte. 8 Als die Jünger das sahen, regten sie sich auf: »Das ist ja die reinste Verschwendung! 9 Dieses Öl ist ein Vermögen wert! Man hätte es verkaufen und das Geld den Armen geben sollen.« 10 Als Jesus ihren Ärger bemerkte, sagte er: »Warum macht ihr der Frau Schwierigkeiten? Sie hat etwas Gutes für mich getan. 11 Arme, die eure Hilfe nötig haben, wird es immer geben, ich dagegen bin nicht mehr lange bei euch. 12 Indem sie das Öl auf mich goss, hat sie meinen Körper für mein Begräbnis vorbereitet. 13 Ich versichere euch: Überall in der Welt, wo Gottes rettende Botschaft verkündet wird, wird man auch von dieser Frau sprechen und von dem, was sie getan hat.« 14 Anschließend ging einer der zwölf Jünger, Judas Iskariot, zu den obersten Priestern (Mk 14,10; Lk 22,3) 15 und fragte: »Was zahlt ihr mir, wenn ich Jesus an euch ausliefere?« Sie gaben ihm 30 Silbermünzen. 16 Von da an suchte Judas eine günstige Gelegenheit, um Jesus zu verraten. 17 Am ersten Tag des Festes der ungesäuerten Brote kamen die Jünger zu Jesus und fragten: »Wo sollen wir für dich das Passahmahl vorbereiten?« (Mk 14,12; Lk 22,7; Lk 22,21; Joh 13,21) 18 Jesus schickte sie zu einem bestimmten Mann in die Stadt und gab ihnen den Auftrag: »Geht zu ihm hin und teilt ihm mit, dass die Zeit für euren Lehrer gekommen ist. Sagt ihm, dass ich in seinem Haus mit meinen Jüngern das Passahmahl feiern will.« 19 Die Jünger taten, was Jesus ihnen befohlen hatte, und bereiteten alles vor. 20 Am Abend dieses Tages nahm Jesus mit den zwölf Jüngern am Tisch Platz. 21 Beim Essen erklärte er ihnen: »Ich versichere euch: Einer von euch wird mich verraten!« 22 Bestürzt fragte einer nach dem andern: »Du meinst doch nicht etwa mich, Herr?« 23 Jesus antwortete: »Einer von euch, der mit mir zusammen sein Brot in die Schüssel getaucht hat, ist es. 24 Der Menschensohn muss zwar sein Leben lassen, wie es in der Heiligen Schrift vorausgesagt ist; aber wehe dem, der ihn verrät! Dieser Mensch wäre besser nie geboren worden.« 25 Judas, der ihn später verraten würde, fragte wie die anderen auch: »Rabbi, ich bin es doch nicht etwa?« Da antwortete ihm Jesus: »Doch, du bist es!«;; (Mk 14,22; Lk 22,17; 1Kor 11,23) 26 Während sie aßen, nahm Jesus ein Brot, sprach das Dankgebet, brach das Brot in Stücke und gab es seinen Jüngern mit den Worten: »Nehmt und esst! Das ist mein Leib.« 27 Anschließend nahm er einen Becher Wein, dankte Gott und reichte ihn seinen Jüngern: »Trinkt alle daraus! 28 Das ist mein Blut, mit dem der neue Bund zwischen Gott und den Menschen besiegelt wird. Es wird zur Vergebung ihrer Sünden vergossen. 29 Ich sage euch: Von jetzt an werde ich keinen Wein mehr trinken, bis ich ihn wieder im Reich meines Vaters mit euch trinken werde.« 30 Nachdem sie das Danklied[1] gesungen hatten, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg. 31 Unterwegs sagte Jesus zu seinen Jüngern: »In dieser Nacht werdet ihr euch alle von mir abwenden. Denn in der Heiligen Schrift steht: ›Ich werde den Hirten erschlagen, und die Schafe werden auseinanderlaufen.‹ (Sach 13,7; Mk 14,27; Lk 22,31; Joh 13,36) 32 Aber nach meiner Auferstehung werde ich nach Galiläa gehen, und dort werdet ihr mich wiedersehen.« 33 Da beteuerte Petrus: »Wenn sich auch alle anderen von dir abwenden – ich halte auf jeden Fall zu dir!« 34 Doch Jesus erwiderte ihm: »Ich versichere dir: In dieser Nacht, noch ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich zu kennen.« 35 »Auch wenn es bedeutet, dass ich mit dir sterben muss, werde ich das niemals tun!«, rief Petrus. Alle anderen Jünger beteuerten dies ebenfalls. 36 Dann ging Jesus mit seinen Jüngern in einen Garten am Ölberg, der Gethsemane heißt. Dort bat er sie: »Setzt euch hier hin und wartet auf mich! Ich will ein Stück weiter gehen und beten.« (Mk 14,32; Lk 22,39; Joh 18,1) 37 Petrus und die beiden Söhne von Zebedäus – Jakobus und Johannes – nahm er mit. Angst und tiefe Traurigkeit überfielen Jesus, 38 und er sagte zu ihnen: »Ich zerbreche beinahe unter der Last, die ich zu tragen habe.[2] Bleibt hier und wacht mit mir!« 39 Jesus ging ein paar Schritte weiter, warf sich nieder und betete: »Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, dann lass den Kelch an mir vorübergehen und erspare mir dieses Leiden! Aber nicht was ich will, sondern was du willst, soll geschehen.« 40 Dann kam er zu den drei Jüngern zurück und sah, dass sie eingeschlafen waren. Er weckte Petrus und rief: »Konntet ihr denn nicht eine einzige Stunde mit mir wachen? 41 Bleibt wach und betet, damit ihr der Versuchung widerstehen könnt. Ich weiß, ihr wollt das Beste, aber aus eigener Kraft könnt ihr es nicht erreichen.[3]« 42 Noch einmal ging er ein Stück weg, um zu beten: »Mein Vater, wenn mir dieser bittere Kelch nicht erspart bleiben kann, bin ich bereit, deinen Willen zu erfüllen!« 43 Als er zurückkam, schliefen die Jünger schon wieder; die Augen waren ihnen zugefallen. 44 Er ließ sie schlafen, kehrte wieder um und betete zum dritten Mal mit den gleichen Worten. 45 Dann kam er zu seinen Jüngern zurück und sagte: »Ihr schlaft immer noch und ruht euch aus? Jetzt ist es so weit, die Stunde ist gekommen: Der Menschensohn wird den gottlosen Menschen ausgeliefert. 46 Steht auf, lasst uns gehen! Der Verräter ist schon da.« 47 Noch während Jesus sprach, kam Judas, einer der zwölf Jünger, zusammen mit einer großen Gruppe von Männern, die mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnet waren. Die obersten Priester und die führenden Männer des Volkes hatten sie geschickt. (Mk 14,43; Lk 22,47; Joh 18,3) 48 Judas, der Verräter, hatte mit den Bewaffneten ein Zeichen vereinbart: »Der Mann, den ich zur Begrüßung küssen werde[4], der ist es. Den müsst ihr festnehmen!« 49 Er ging direkt auf Jesus zu. »Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi!«, sagte er und küsste ihn. 50 Jesus sah ihn an: »Mein Freund! Tu, was du dir vorgenommen hast!« Sofort traten die Männer heran, packten Jesus und nahmen ihn fest. 51 Aber einer der Jünger, die bei Jesus waren, wollte das verhindern. Er zog sein Schwert, schlug auf den Diener des Hohenpriesters ein und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. 52 Doch Jesus befahl ihm: »Steck dein Schwert weg! Wer Gewalt anwendet, wird durch Gewalt umkommen. 53 Ist dir denn nicht klar, dass ich meinen Vater um ein ganzes Heer von Engeln[5] bitten könnte? Er würde sie mir sofort schicken. 54 Wie sollte sich aber dann erfüllen, was in der Heiligen Schrift vorausgesagt ist? Es muss alles so geschehen!« 55 Danach wandte sich Jesus an die Männer, die ihn festgenommen hatten: »Bin ich denn ein Verbrecher, dass ihr euch mit Schwertern und Knüppeln bewaffnet habt, um mich zu verhaften? Jeden Tag habe ich öffentlich im Tempel gelehrt. Warum habt ihr mich nicht dort festgenommen? 56 Aber auch dies geschieht, damit sich die Vorhersagen der Propheten erfüllen.« Da ließen ihn alle seine Jünger im Stich und ergriffen die Flucht. 57 Die Männer, die Jesus festgenommen hatten, brachten ihn zu Kaiphas, dem Hohenpriester und Vorsitzenden des Hohen Rates. Bei ihm hatten sich die Schriftgelehrten und die führenden Männer des Volkes versammelt. (Mk 14,53; Lk 22,54; Lk 22,63; Joh 18,12; Joh 18,19) 58 In sicherem Abstand folgte ihnen Petrus bis in den Innenhof des hohepriesterlichen Palastes. Dort setzte er sich zu den Dienern, um zu beobachten, was mit Jesus geschehen würde. 59 Die obersten Priester und der ganze Hohe Rat suchten Zeugen, die durch ihre falschen Aussagen Jesus so belasten sollten, dass man ihn zum Tode verurteilen konnte. 60 Aber es gelang ihnen nicht, obwohl viele Zeugen falsche Anschuldigungen vorbrachten. Schließlich traten zwei Männer vor und erklärten: 61 »Dieser Mensch hat behauptet: ›Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abreißen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen.‹« 62 Da stand der Hohepriester auf und fragte Jesus: »Warum antwortest du nicht? Hast du nichts gegen diese Anschuldigungen zu sagen?« 63 Aber Jesus schwieg weiter. Darauf sagte der Hohepriester: »Ich nehme dich vor dem lebendigen Gott unter Eid: Sag uns, bist du der Christus, der von Gott erwählte Retter? Bist du der Sohn Gottes?« 64 »Ja, du sagst es«, antwortete Jesus, »und ich versichere euch: Von jetzt an werdet ihr den Menschensohn an der rechten Seite des allmächtigen Gottes sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen.« 65 Empört zerriss der Hohepriester sein Gewand und rief: »Das ist Gotteslästerung! Wozu brauchen wir noch weitere Zeugen? Ihr habt es ja selbst gehört, wie er Gott gelästert hat! 66 Wie lautet euer Urteil?« Sie riefen: »Er ist schuldig! Er muss sterben!« 67 Dann spuckten sie Jesus ins Gesicht und schlugen mit den Fäusten auf ihn ein. Andere gaben ihm Ohrfeigen 68 und spotteten: »Na, du Christus! Du bist doch ein Prophet! Sag uns, wer hat dich vorhin gerade geschlagen?« 69 Petrus saß immer noch draußen im Hof. Da trat eine Dienerin auf ihn zu und sagte: »Du gehörst doch auch zu Jesus, diesem Galiläer!« (Mk 14,66; Lk 22,56; Joh 18,15; Joh 18,25) 70 Aber Petrus bestritt das laut: »Ich weiß nicht, wovon du redest.« 71 Als er danach in den Vorhof hinausging, bemerkte ihn eine andere Dienerin und sagte vor allen Leuten: »Der da gehört auch zu diesem Jesus aus Nazareth!« 72 Doch Petrus behauptete wieder, und diesmal schwor er sogar: »Ich kenne den Mann gar nicht!« 73 Kurze Zeit später kamen noch einige andere Leute, die in der Nähe gestanden hatten, und sagten zu Petrus: »Natürlich gehörst du zu seinen Freunden! Dein Dialekt verrät dich.« 74 Da rief Petrus: »Ich schwöre euch: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht! Gott soll mich verfluchen, wenn ich lüge!« In diesem Augenblick krähte ein Hahn, 75 und Petrus fielen die Worte ein, die Jesus gesagt hatte: »Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich zu kennen.« Da ging Petrus hinaus und weinte voller Verzweiflung.

1 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, 2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” (Mt 20,18; Mt 26,24; Mk 14,1; Lk 22,1; Joh 6,4) 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, (Ps 2,2; Mt 26,57; Mt 26,58; Mt 26,69; Lk 3,2; Lk 11,21; Joh 11,47; Joh 11,49; Joh 18,13; Joh 18,15; Apg 4,6; Apg 4,27; Offb 11,2) 4 and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” (Mt 26,3; Mk 14,66; Lk 22,55; Joh 18,16; Joh 18,25) 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” 71 And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” (Mt 2,23) 72 And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.” (Ri 12,6) 74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. (Mt 26,34; Apg 3,13)

1 Aconteció que cuando Jesús terminó todas estas palabras, dijo a sus discípulos: 2 Sabéis que dentro de dos días se celebra la pascua, y el Hijo del Hombre es entregado para ser crucificado. 3 Entonces los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo se reunieron en el atrio del sumo sacerdote, llamado Caifás, 4 y tuvieron consejo para que con engaño prendieran a Jesús y lo mataran. 5 Pero decían: No durante la fiesta, para que no haya alboroto en el pueblo. 6 Y hallándose Jesús en Betania, en casa de Simón el leproso, 7 se le acercó una mujer que tenía un frasco de alabastro, lleno de un ungüento muy costoso, y estando reclinado a la mesa, lo derramó sobre su cabeza. 8 Al ver esto, los discípulos se indignaron, diciendo: ¿Para qué este derroche? 9 Pues esto podía haberse vendido por mucho y dado a los pobres. 10 Percibiéndolo Jesús, les dijo: ¿Por qué molestáis a la mujer? Buena obra ha hecho conmigo, 11 porque a los pobres siempre los tenéis con vosotros, pero a mí no siempre me tendréis. 12 Porque derramando este ungüento sobre mi cuerpo, lo ha hecho a fin de prepararme para la sepultura. 13 En verdad os digo que dondequiera que se proclame este evangelio en todo el mundo, se dirá también lo que ésta hizo, para memoria de ella. 14 Entonces uno de los doce, aquel que se llamaba Judas Iscariote, fue a los principales sacerdotes, 15 y dijo: ¿Qué queréis darme para que yo os lo entregue? Y ellos le fijaron treinta piezas de plata. 16 Desde entonces buscaba una oportunidad para entregarlo. 17 El primer día de los ázimos, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Dónde quieres que te preparemos para comer la pascua? 18 Y Él dijo: Id a la ciudad, a tal hombre, y decidle: El Maestro dice: Mi tiempo está cercano: en tu casa celebro la pascua con mis discípulos. 19 Y los discípulos hicieron como Jesús les ordenó, y prepararon la pascua. 20 Y llegado el atardecer, estaba reclinado a la mesa con los doce, 21 y mientras ellos comían, dijo: De cierto os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará. 22 Y entristecidos en gran manera, comenzaron a decirle, uno por uno: ¿Acaso soy yo, Señor? 23 Él respondió y dijo: El que mete la mano conmigo en el plato, éste me entregará. 24 A la verdad, el Hijo del Hombre se va según ha sido escrito de Él, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del Hombre es entregado! Más le valdría a ese hombre no haber nacido. 25 Respondiendo entonces Judas (el que lo entregaba), dijo: ¿Acaso soy yo, Rabbí? Le dice: Tú lo has dicho. 26 Y mientras ellos comían, tomó Jesús un pan, y habiendo pronunciado la bendición, lo partió, y dándolo a los discípulos, dijo: Tomad, comed: esto es mi cuerpo. 27 Y tomando una copa, dio gracias y se la dio, diciendo: Bebed de ella todos, 28 porque esto es mi sangre del pacto, la cual es derramada a favor de muchos, para perdón de pecados. 29 Y os digo que desde ahora no beberé de este fruto de la vid hasta aquel día en que lo beba nuevo con vosotros en el reino de mi Padre. 30 Y después de cantar un himno, salieron hacia el monte de los Olivos. 31 Entonces Jesús les dice: Todos vosotros seréis escandalizados a causa de mí en esta noche, porque está escrito: Heriré al pastor y serán dispersadas las ovejas del rebaño. 32 Pero después de ser resucitado, Yo iré delante de vosotros a Galilea. 33 Respondiendo Pedro, le dijo: Aunque todos serán escandalizados a causa tuya, yo nunca seré escandalizado. 34 Jesús le dijo: De cierto te digo que en esta noche, antes que cante un gallo, me negarás tres veces. 35 Pedro le dice: Aunque tenga que morir contigo, no te negaré. Y todos los discípulos dijeron lo mismo. 36 Entonces Jesús llega con ellos a un lugar llamado Getsemaní, y dice a los discípulos: Sentaos aquí, mientras voy allá y oro. 37 Y tomando a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo, comenzó a entristecerse y angustiarse en gran manera, 38 y les dice: Una tristeza mortal está sobrecogiendo mi alma. ¡Quedaos aquí y velad conmigo! 39 Y yendo un poco más adelante, cayó sobre su rostro, y orando dijo: ¡Padre mío, si es posible pase de mí esta copa! pero no como Yo quiero, sino como Tú. 40 Luego va a los discípulos, y hallándolos durmiendo, dice a Pedro: ¿No pudisteis velar conmigo una sola hora? 41 Velad y orad, para que no entréis en tentación; en verdad, el espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil. 42 Y yendo de nuevo, oró por segunda vez, diciendo: ¡Padre mío, si esto no puede pasar sin que lo beba, hágase tu voluntad! 43 Al regresar, los halló otra vez durmiendo, porque sus ojos estaban cargados, 44 y dejándolos nuevamente, fue y oró por tercera vez, repitiendo la misma expresión. 45 Luego viene a los discípulos y les dice: Dormid lo que resta y descansad. He aquí, la hora se ha acercado y el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de pecadores. 46 Levantaos, vamos; he aquí se acerca el que me entrega. 47 Aún estaba hablando, cuando he aquí llegó Judas, uno de los doce, y con él mucha gente de parte de los principales sacerdotes y ancianos del pueblo, con espadas y garrotes. 48 Y el que lo entregaba les había dado una señal, diciendo: Al que yo bese, Él es: prendedlo. 49 Y enseguida, acercándose a Jesús, dijo: ¡Salve, Rabbí! Y lo besó aparatosamente. 50 Y Jesús le dijo: ¡Compañero, a lo que has venido! Entonces se aproximaron y echaron mano a Jesús y lo apresaron. 51 Pero he aquí, uno de los que estaban con Jesús, extendió la mano y sacó su espada, e hiriendo al siervo del sumo sacerdote, le cortó la oreja. 52 Entonces Jesús le dice: Vuelve tu espada a su lugar, porque todos los que toman espada, a espada perecerán. 53 ¿O piensas que no puedo invocar a mi Padre, y ahora mismo me daría más de doce legiones de ángeles? 54 ¿Pero cómo se cumplirían las Escrituras, de que así debe suceder? 55 En aquella hora Jesús dijo a las turbas: ¿Como contra un bandido salisteis a prenderme con espadas y garrotes? Cada día me sentaba para enseñar en el templo, y no me prendisteis. 56 Pero todo esto ha sucedido para que se cumplieran las Escrituras de los profetas. Entonces todos los discípulos lo abandonaron y huyeron. 57 Los que habían apresado a Jesús, lo llevaron ante Caifás, el sumo sacerdote, donde estaban reunidos los escribas y los ancianos. 58 Y Pedro lo seguía de lejos, hasta el patio del sumo sacerdote; y entrando, se sentó con los guardianes para ver el fin. 59 Y los principales sacerdotes y todo el Sanedrín, buscaban un falso testimonio contra Jesús para que lo mataran. 60 Pero a pesar de haberse presentado muchos testigos falsos, no lo hallaron. Por fin, se acercaron dos 61 que dijeron: Éste dijo: Puedo derribar el santuario de Dios, y reconstruir en tres días. 62 Levantándose el sumo sacerdote, le dijo: ¿Nada respondes de lo que éstos testifican contra ti? 63 Pero Jesús callaba. Entonces el sumo sacerdote le dijo: ¡Te conjuro por el Dios viviente que nos digas si tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios! 64 Jesús le dice: Tú lo has dicho. Y además, os digo: Desde ahora veréis al Hijo del Hombre sentado a la diestra del Poder, y viniendo en las nubes del cielo. 65 Entonces el sumo sacerdote rasgó sus vestiduras, diciendo: ¡Ha blasfemado! ¿Qué necesidad tenemos ya de testigos? ¡Ahora mismo habéis oído la blasfemia! 66 ¿Qué os parece? Respondiendo ellos, dijeron: ¡Es reo de muerte! 67 Entonces lo escupieron en el rostro y le dieron puñetazos; otros le dieron bofetadas, 68 diciendo: ¡Profetízanos, mesías! ¿Quién es el que te golpeó? 69 Pedro estaba sentado afuera en el patio, y se le acercó una sirvienta, diciendo: ¡Tú también estabas con Jesús el galileo! 70 Pero él negó delante de todos, diciendo: ¡No sé de qué hablas! 71 Y saliendo a la puerta, lo vio otra, y dice a los que estaban allí: ¡Éste estaba con Jesús el nazareno! 72 Y otra vez negó con juramento: ¡No conozco a ese hombre! 73 Y un poco después, acercándose los que estaban de pie, dijeron a Pedro: En verdad tú también eres de ellos, porque hasta tu manera de hablar te delata. 74 Entonces comenzó a maldecir y a jurar: ¡No conozco a tal hombre! Y enseguida cantó un gallo. 75 Y Pedro se acordó de la palabra de Jesús, que había dicho: Antes que cante un gallo, me negarás tres veces. Y saliendo afuera, lloró amargamente.

1 Quando Gesù ebbe finito tutti questi discorsi, disse ai suoi discepoli: 2 «Voi sapete che fra due giorni è la Pasqua[1], e il Figlio dell’uomo sarà consegnato per essere crocifisso». 3 Allora i capi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo si riunirono nel palazzo del sommo sacerdote, che si chiamava Caiafa, 4 e deliberarono di prendere Gesù con inganno e di farlo morire. 5 Ma dicevano: «Non durante la festa, perché non accada qualche tumulto nel popolo». 6 Mentre Gesù era a Betania, in casa di Simone il lebbroso, 7 venne a lui una donna che aveva un vaso di alabastro pieno d’olio profumato di gran valore e lo versò sul capo di lui che stava a tavola. 8 Veduto ciò, i discepoli si indignarono e dissero: «Perché questo spreco? 9 Questo, infatti, si sarebbe potuto vendere caro e dare il denaro ai poveri». 10 Ma Gesù se ne accorse e disse loro: «Perché date noia a questa donna? Ha fatto una buona azione verso di me. 11 Perché i poveri li avete sempre con voi, ma me non mi avete sempre. 12 Versando quest’olio sul mio corpo, lo ha fatto in vista della mia sepoltura. 13 In verità vi dico che in tutto il mondo, dovunque sarà predicato questo vangelo, anche ciò che ella ha fatto sarà raccontato in memoria di lei». 14 Allora uno dei dodici, che si chiamava Giuda Iscariota, andò dai capi dei sacerdoti 15 e disse: «Che cosa siete disposti a darmi, se io ve lo consegno?» Ed essi gli fissarono trenta sicli d’argento. 16 Da quell’ora cercava il momento opportuno per consegnarlo. 17 Il primo giorno degli Azzimi i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù e gli dissero: «Dove vuoi che ti prepariamo da mangiare la Pasqua?» 18 Egli disse: «Andate in città dal tale e ditegli: “Il Maestro dice: ‘Il mio tempo è vicino; farò la Pasqua da te, con i miei discepoli’”». 19 E i discepoli fecero come Gesù aveva loro ordinato e prepararono la Pasqua. 20 Quando fu sera, si mise a tavola con i dodici. 21 Mentre mangiavano, disse: «In verità vi dico: uno di voi mi tradirà». 22 Ed essi, profondamente rattristati, cominciarono a dirgli uno dopo l’altro: «Sono forse io, Signore?» 23 Ma egli rispose: «Colui che ha messo con me la mano nel piatto, quello mi tradirà. 24 Certo, il Figlio dell’uomo se ne va, come è scritto di lui; ma guai a quell’uomo dal quale il Figlio dell’uomo è tradito! Meglio sarebbe per quell’uomo se non fosse mai nato». 25 E Giuda, il traditore, prese a dire: «Sono forse io, Rabbì?» E Gesù a lui: «Lo hai detto». 26 Mentre mangiavano, Gesù prese del pane e, dopo aver pronunciato la benedizione, lo spezzò e lo diede ai suoi discepoli dicendo: «Prendete, mangiate, questo è il mio corpo». 27 Poi prese un calice e, dopo aver reso grazie, lo diede loro dicendo: «Bevetene tutti, 28 perché questo è il mio sangue, il sangue del patto, il quale è sparso per molti per il perdono dei peccati. 29 Vi dico che da ora in poi non berrò più di questo frutto della vigna, fino al giorno che lo berrò nuovo con voi nel regno del Padre mio». 30 Dopo che ebbero cantato l’inno, uscirono per andare al monte degli Ulivi. 31 Allora Gesù disse loro: «Questa notte voi tutti avrete in me un’occasione di caduta; perché è scritto: “Io percuoterò il pastore e le pecore del gregge saranno disperse”[2]. 32 Ma dopo che sarò risuscitato, vi precederò in Galilea». 33 Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: «Quand’anche tu fossi per tutti un’occasione di caduta, non lo sarai mai per me». 34 Gesù gli disse: «In verità ti dico che questa stessa notte, prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». 35 E Pietro a lui: «Quand’anche dovessi morire con te, non ti rinnegherò». E lo stesso dissero pure tutti i discepoli. 36 Allora Gesù andò con loro in un podere chiamato Getsemani[3] e disse ai discepoli: «Sedete qui finché io sia andato là e abbia pregato». 37 E, presi con sé Pietro e i due figli di Zebedeo, cominciò a essere triste e angosciato. 38 Allora disse loro: «L’anima mia è oppressa da tristezza mortale; rimanete qui e vegliate con me». 39 E, andato un po’ più avanti, si gettò con la faccia a terra, pregando e dicendo: «Padre mio, se è possibile, passi oltre da me questo calice! Ma pure, non come voglio io, ma come tu vuoi». 40 Poi tornò dai discepoli e li trovò addormentati. E disse a Pietro: «Così non siete stati capaci di vegliare con me un’ora sola? 41 Vegliate e pregate, affinché non cadiate in tentazione; lo spirito è pronto, ma la carne è debole». 42 Di nuovo, per la seconda volta, andò e pregò, dicendo: «Padre mio, se non è possibile che questo calice passi oltre da me senza che io lo beva, sia fatta la tua volontà». 43 E, tornato, li trovò addormentati, perché i loro occhi erano appesantiti. 44 Allora, lasciatili, andò di nuovo e pregò per la terza volta, ripetendo le medesime parole. 45 Poi tornò dai discepoli e disse loro: «Dormite pure oramai, e riposatevi! Ecco, l’ora è vicina, e il Figlio dell’uomo è dato nelle mani dei peccatori. 46 Alzatevi, andiamo; ecco, colui che mi tradisce è vicino». 47 Mentre parlava ancora, ecco arrivare Giuda, uno dei dodici, e insieme a lui una gran folla con spade e bastoni, da parte dei capi dei sacerdoti e degli anziani del popolo. 48 Colui che lo tradiva aveva dato loro un segnale, dicendo: «Quello che bacerò, è lui; prendetelo». 49 E in quell’istante, avvicinatosi a Gesù, gli disse: «Ti saluto, Rabbì!» e lo baciò. 50 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Amico, che cosa sei venuto a fare?» Allora, avvicinatisi, misero le mani addosso a Gesù e lo presero. 51 Ed ecco, uno di quelli che erano con Gesù, stesa la mano, tirò fuori la sua spada e, colpito il servo del sommo sacerdote, gli recise l’orecchio. 52 Allora Gesù gli disse: «Riponi la tua spada al suo posto, perché tutti quelli che prendono la spada periranno di spada. 53 Credi forse che io non potrei pregare il Padre mio che mi mandi in questo istante più di dodici legioni[4] d’angeli? 54 Come dunque si adempirebbero le Scritture, secondo le quali bisogna che così avvenga?» 55 In quel momento Gesù disse alla folla: «Voi siete usciti con spade e bastoni, come contro un brigante, per prendermi. Ogni giorno sedevo nel tempio a insegnare e voi non mi avete preso; 56 ma tutto questo è avvenuto affinché si adempissero le Scritture dei profeti». Allora tutti i discepoli lo abbandonarono e fuggirono. 57 Quelli che avevano preso Gesù lo condussero da Caiafa, sommo sacerdote, presso il quale erano riuniti gli scribi e gli anziani. 58 Pietro lo seguiva da lontano, finché giunsero al cortile del sommo sacerdote; ed entrò, mettendosi a sedere con le guardie, per vedere come la vicenda sarebbe finita. 59 I capi dei sacerdoti e tutto il sinedrio cercavano qualche falsa testimonianza contro Gesù per farlo morire; 60 e non ne trovavano, benché si fossero fatti avanti molti falsi testimoni. 61 Alla fine se ne fecero avanti due, che dissero: «Costui ha detto: “Io posso distruggere il tempio di Dio e ricostruirlo in tre giorni”». 62 E il sommo sacerdote, alzatosi in piedi, gli disse: «Non rispondi nulla? Non senti quello che testimoniano costoro contro di te?» 63 Ma Gesù taceva. E il sommo sacerdote gli disse: «Ti scongiuro per il Dio vivente di dirci se tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio». 64 Gesù gli rispose: «Tu l’hai detto; anzi vi dico che da ora in poi vedrete il Figlio dell’uomo seduto alla destra della Potenza e venire sulle nuvole del cielo»[5]. 65 Allora il sommo sacerdote si stracciò le vesti, dicendo: «Egli ha bestemmiato; che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimoni? Ecco, ora avete udito la bestemmia; 66 che ve ne pare?» Ed essi risposero: «È reo di morte». 67 Allora gli sputarono in viso e gli diedero dei pugni e altri lo schiaffeggiarono, 68 dicendo: «Indovina, Cristo! Chi ti ha percosso?» 69 Pietro, intanto, stava seduto fuori nel cortile e una serva gli si avvicinò, dicendo: «Anche tu eri con Gesù il Galileo». 70 Ma egli lo negò davanti a tutti, dicendo: «Non so che cosa dici». 71 Come fu uscito nell’atrio, un’altra lo vide e disse a coloro che erano là: «Costui era con Gesù il Nazareno». 72 Ed egli negò di nuovo giurando: «Non conosco quell’uomo». 73 Di lì a poco, coloro che erano presenti si avvicinarono e dissero a Pietro: «Certo anche tu sei di quelli, perché anche il tuo parlare[6] ti fa riconoscere». 74 Allora egli cominciò a imprecare e a giurare: «Non conosco quell’uomo!» In quell’istante il gallo cantò. 75 Pietro si ricordò delle parole di Gesù che aveva dette: «Prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». E, andato fuori, pianse amaramente.
