A Call for Justice and Mercy

1 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chislev. (Ne 1:1; Zec 1:1; Zec 1:7) 2 Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to entreat the favor of the Lord, (1Sa 13:12; Zec 8:21; Mal 1:9) 3 saying to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and the prophets, “Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?” (2Ki 25:8; Ezr 5:1; Ezr 6:14; Zec 8:9; Zec 8:19; Zec 12:12; Mal 2:7)

4 Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me: 5 “Say to all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth month and in the seventh, for these seventy years, was it for me that you fasted? (2Ki 25:25; Isa 58:4; Zec 1:12; Zec 7:3)

6 And when you eat and when you drink, do you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves? (1Co 11:20) 7 Were not these the words that the Lord proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous, with her cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’” (Jer 17:26; Zec 1:5; Zec 7:12) 8 And the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, 9 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, (Isa 1:17; Jer 21:12; Mic 6:8; Mt 23:23)

10 do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.” (Ex 22:21; Pr 22:22; Isa 1:23; Jer 5:28; Zec 8:17)

11 But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.^[1] (Ne 9:29; Zec 1:4) 12 They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. (2Ch 36:16; Ne 9:30; Eze 11:19; Eze 36:26; Zec 7:7; 1Th 2:16)

13 “As I^[2] called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts, (Pr 1:24; Isa 1:15; Jer 11:11) 14 “and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate.” (De 28:33; Jer 7:34; Eze 12:19; Zep 3:6; Zec 2:6; Zec 9:8)

Am bloßen Fasten hat Gott kein Gefallen

1 Und es geschah im vierten Jahr des Königs Darius, da geschah des HERRN Wort zu Sacharja am vierten Tag des neunten Monats, im Kislew. 2 Und man sandte Bethel-Sarezer und Regem-Melech und seine Leute, um den HERRN anzuflehen 3 und die Priester am Hause des HERRN Zebaoth und die Propheten zu befragen: Muss ich immer noch im fünften Monat weinen und enthaltsam sein, wie ich es nun so viele Jahre getan habe? (2Ki 25:8; Jer 52:12; Zec 8:19) 4 Und des HERRN Zebaoth Wort geschah zu mir: 5 Sage allem Volk im Lande und den Priestern und sprich: Als ihr fastetet und Leid trugt im fünften und siebenten Monat diese siebzig Jahre lang, habt ihr da wirklich für mich gefastet? (Isa 58:5; Jer 25:11; Jer 29:10; Da 9:2; Zec 1:12)

6 Und wenn ihr esst und trinkt, esst und trinkt ihr da nicht für euch selbst?

7 Ist’s nicht das, was der HERR durch die früheren Propheten predigen ließ, als Jerusalem bewohnt war und sicher samt seinen Städten ringsum und Leute im Südland und im Hügelland wohnten. 8 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu Sacharja: 9 So sprach der HERR Zebaoth: Richtet recht, und ein jeder erweise seinem Bruder Güte und Barmherzigkeit, (Eze 18:8; Mic 6:8; Zec 8:16) 10 und bedrückt nicht die Witwen, Waisen, Fremdlinge und Armen, und denke keiner gegen seinen Bruder etwas Arges in seinem Herzen! (Ex 22:20) 11 Sie aber weigerten sich aufzumerken und kehrten mir störrisch den Rücken zu und verstopften ihre Ohren, dass sie nicht hörten, 12 und machten ihre Herzen hart wie Diamant, damit sie nicht hörten das Gesetz und die Worte, die der HERR Zebaoth durch seinen Geist sandte durch die früheren Propheten. Daher ist so großer Zorn vom HERRN Zebaoth gekommen. (Isa 48:4; Zec 1:4) 13 Und es ist so ergangen: Gleichwie gepredigt wurde und sie nicht hörten, so wollte ich auch nicht hören, als sie riefen, spricht der HERR Zebaoth. 14 Darum habe ich sie zerstreut unter alle Völker, die sie nicht kannten, und das Land blieb verwüstet hinter ihnen liegen, sodass niemand mehr darin hin und her zog; so haben sie das liebliche Land zur Wüste gemacht.

Causes de la colère de Dieu

1 La quatrième année du règne de Darius, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Zacharie le quatrième jour du neuvième mois, qui est le mois de Kisleu. 2 La ville de Béthel avait envoyé Sharetser et Réguem-Mélec avec ses hommes pour implorer l'Eternel 3 en disant aux prêtres de la maison de l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, et aux prophètes: «Dois-je pleurer le cinquième mois en me privant, comme je l'ai fait tant d'années?» 4 La parole de l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, m'a été adressée: 5 «Dis à tout le peuple du pays et aux prêtres: ‘Quand vous avez jeûné et pleuré le cinquième et le septième mois, et cela depuis 70 ans, est-ce pour moi que vous avez jeûné? 6 Et quand vous mangez et buvez, n'est-ce pas pour vous que vous mangez et buvez?’ 7 Ne connaissez-vous pas les paroles qu'a proclamées l'Eternel par les premiers prophètes, lorsque Jérusalem et les villes qui l'entourent étaient habitées et tranquilles et que le sud et la plaine étaient habités?» 8 La parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Zacharie: 9 «Voici ce que disait l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers: ‘Rendez la justice conformément à la vérité et agissez l'un envers l'autre avec bonté et compassion. 10 N'opprimez pas la veuve et l'orphelin, l'étranger et le pauvre, et ne méditez pas l'un contre l'autre le mal dans votre cœur.’ 11 »Mais ils ont refusé d'être attentifs, ils se sont révoltés et ils ont endurci leurs oreilles pour ne pas entendre. 12 Ils ont rendu leur cœur dur comme le diamant pour ne pas écouter la loi et les paroles que l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, leur adressait par son Esprit, par les premiers prophètes. Alors l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, s'est enflammé d'une grande colère. 13 Quand il appelait, ils n'ont pas écouté, c'est pourquoi – dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers – je n'écouterai pas quand ils appelleront. 14 Je les ai dispersés parmi toutes sortes de nations qu'ils ne connaissaient pas; le pays a été dévasté derrière eux, personne n'y passait, personne n'y revenait. D'un pays de délices ils ont fait un désert.»
