1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. (Mt 26:6; Mr 14:3; Joh 11:1; Joh 11:55; Joh 12:12; Joh 12:20) 2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. (Lu 10:38; Lu 10:40) 3 Mary therefore took a pound[1] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. (Lu 7:37) 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor?” (Joh 13:29) 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. (Joh 12:5) 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it[3] for the day of my burial. 8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.” 9 When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus[4] was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. (Joh 11:44) 10 So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, (Lu 16:31) 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. (Joh 11:45; Joh 12:18) 

The Triumphal Entry

12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. (Mt 21:4; Mr 11:7; Lu 19:35) 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (Ps 118:25; Joh 1:49; Joh 5:43; Re 7:9) 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” (Zec 9:9) 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. (Mr 9:32; Joh 2:22; Joh 7:39; Joh 12:23; Joh 13:7) 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. (Lu 19:37) 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. (Joh 12:9) 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.” (Joh 3:26; Joh 11:47) 20 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. (1Ki 8:41; Mr 7:26; Joh 7:35; Ac 8:27; Ac 17:4) 21 So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” (Joh 1:44) 22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. (Mr 13:3) 23 And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (Mr 14:41; Joh 2:4; Joh 12:16; Joh 12:27; Joh 13:31; Joh 17:1) 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. (1Co 15:36) 25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (Mt 10:39; Lu 14:26; Joh 11:25) 26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. (1Sa 2:30; Ps 91:15; Joh 8:12; Joh 14:3; Joh 14:21; Joh 14:23; Joh 16:27; Joh 17:24; Joh 21:18; 2Co 5:8; 1Th 4:17) 27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. (Mr 14:35; Lu 22:44; Joh 11:33; Joh 12:23; Joh 13:21; Joh 18:37; Heb 5:7) 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” (Mt 3:17; Mt 17:5; Mr 1:11; Mr 9:7; Lu 3:22; Lu 9:35; 2Pe 1:17) 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” (Ac 23:9) 30 Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. (Joh 11:42) 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. (Mt 13:19; Lu 4:6; Lu 10:18; Joh 14:30; Joh 16:11; Joh 16:33; 2Co 4:4; Eph 2:2; Eph 6:12; Col 2:15; 1Jo 3:8; 1Jo 4:4; 1Jo 5:19) 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (Joh 3:14; Joh 6:44; Joh 8:28; Ro 5:18; Ro 8:32; 2Co 5:15; 1Ti 2:6; Heb 2:9; 1Jo 2:2) 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. (Joh 18:32) 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” (Ps 89:4; Ps 110:4; Isa 9:7; Eze 37:25; Lu 1:33; Joh 12:32) 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. (Isa 9:2; Jer 13:16; Joh 1:4; Joh 1:9; Joh 7:33; Joh 8:12; Joh 11:10; Joh 12:46; Eph 5:8; 1Th 5:4; 1Jo 1:6; 1Jo 2:11) 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. (Lu 10:6) 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38 so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” (Isa 53:1; Mt 1:22; Ro 10:16) 39 Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, (Joh 5:44) 40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” (Isa 6:10; Mt 13:14; Mr 6:52) 41 Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him. (Isa 6:1; Joh 5:46) 42 Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; (Joh 3:1; Joh 7:13; Joh 7:48; Joh 9:22) 43 for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God. (Joh 5:44) 44 And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. (Mt 10:40; Joh 5:24; Joh 13:20; Joh 14:1; 1Pe 1:21) 45 And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. (Joh 6:40; Joh 14:9) 46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. (Joh 1:4; Joh 1:9; Joh 8:12; Joh 12:35) 47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. (Joh 3:17; Joh 3:36; Joh 4:42; Joh 8:15) 48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. (De 18:18; Lu 10:16; Ro 2:16) 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. (Joh 3:17; Joh 5:19; Joh 5:30; Joh 15:10) 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”

1 Tedy Ježíš šestý den před velikonocí přišel do Betany, kdežto byl Lazar, ten kterýž byl umřel, jehož vzkřísil z mrtvých. 2 I připravili jemu tu večeři, a Marta posluhovala, Lazar pak byl jeden z stolících s nimi. 3 Maria pak vzavši libru masti drahé z nardu výborného, pomazala noh Ježíšových, a vytřela vlasy svými nohy jeho. I naplněn jest dům vůní té masti. 4 Tedy řekl jeden z učedlníků jeho, Jidáš, syn Šimona Iškariotského, kterýž jej měl zraditi: 5 Proč tato mast není prodána za tři sta peněz, a není dáno chudým? 6 To pak řekl, ne že by měl péči o chudé, ale že zloděj byl, a měšec měl, a to, což do něho kladeno bylo, nosil. 7 Tedy řekl Ježíš: Nech jí, ke dni pohřebu mého zachovala to. 8 Chudé zajisté vždycky máte s sebou, ale mne ne vždycky míti budete. 9 Zvěděl pak zástup veliký z Židů o něm, že by tu byl. I přišli tam, ne pro Ježíše toliko, ale také, aby Lazara viděli, kteréhož byl vzkřísil z mrtvých. 10 Radili se pak přední kněží, aby i Lazara zamordovali. 11 Nebo mnozí z Židů odcházeli pro něho, a uvěřili v Ježíše. 12 Potom nazejtří mnohý zástup, kterýž byl přišel k svátku velikonočnímu, když uslyšeli, že Ježíš jde do Jeruzaléma, 13 Nabrali ratolestí palmových, a vyšli proti němu, a volali: Spas nás! Požehnaný, jenž se béře ve jménu Páně, Král Izraelský. 14 I dostav Ježíš oslátka, vsedl na ně, jakož psáno jest: 15 Neboj se, dcero Sionská, aj, Král tvůj béře se, na oslátku sedě. 16 Tomu pak nesrozuměli učedlníci jeho zprvu, ale když oslaven byl Ježíš, tedy se rozpomenuli, že jest to psáno bylo o něm a že jemu to učinili. 17 Vydával pak o něm svědectví zástup, kterýž byl s ním, že Lazara povolal z hrobu a vzkřísil jej z mrtvých. 18 Protož i v cestu vyšel jemu zástup, když slyšeli, že by ten div učinil. 19 Tedy farizeové pravili mezi sebou: Vidíte, že nic neprospíváte? Aj, všecken svět postoupil po něm. 20 Byli pak někteří Řekové z těch, kteříž přicházívali, aby se modlili v svátek. 21 Ti také přistoupili k Filipovi, kterýž byl od Betsaidy Galilejské, a prosili ho, řkouce: Pane, chtěli bychom Ježíše viděti. 22 Přišel Filip a pověděl Ondřejovi, Ondřej pak a Filip pověděli Ježíšovi. 23 A Ježíš odpověděl jim, řka: Přišlať jest hodina, aby oslaven byl Syn člověka. 24 Amen, amen pravím vám: Zrno pšeničné padna v zemi, neumře-li, onoť samo zůstane, a pakliť umře, mnohý užitek přinese. 25 Kdož miluje duši svou, ztratíť ji; a kdož nenávidí duše své na tomto světě, k životu věčnému ostříhá jí. 26 Slouží-li mi kdo, následujž mne; a kdež jsem já, tuť i můj služebník bude. A bude-li mi kdo sloužiti, poctíť ho Otec můj. 27 Nyní duše má zkormoucena jest, a což dím? Otče, vysvoboď mne z této hodiny. Ale proto jsem přišel k hodině této. 28 Otče, oslaviž jméno své. Tedy přišel hlas s nebe řkoucí: I oslavil jsem, i ještě oslavím. 29 Ten pak zástup, kterýž tu stál a to slyšel, pravil: Zahřmělo. Jiní pravili: Anděl k němu mluvil. 30 Odpověděl Ježíš a řekl: Ne pro mneť hlas tento se stal, ale pro vás. 31 Nyníť jest soud světa tohoto, nyní kníže světa tohoto vyvrženo bude ven. 32 A já budu-liť povýšen od země, všecky potáhnu k sobě. 33 (To pak pověděl, znamenaje, kterou by smrtí měl umříti.) 34 Odpověděl jemu zástup: My jsme slyšeli z Zákona, že Kristus zůstává na věky, a kterakž ty pravíš, že musí býti povýšen Syn člověka? Kdo jest to Syn člověka? 35 Tedy řekl jim Ježíš: Ještě na malý čas Světlo s vámi jest. Choďte, dokud Světlo máte, ať vás tma nezachvátí; nebo kdo chodí ve tmách, neví, kam jde. 36 Dokud Světlo máte, věřte v Světlo, abyste synové Světla byli. Toto pověděl Ježíš, a odšed, skryl se před nimi. 37 A ačkoli tak mnohá znamení činil před nimi, však jsou neuvěřili v něho, 38 Aby se naplnila řeč Izaiáše proroka, kterouž pověděl: Pane, kdo uvěřil kázaní našemu a rámě Páně komu jest zjeveno? 39 Ale protoť jsou nemohli věřiti, neb opět Izaiáš řekl: 40 Oslepil oči jejich a zatvrdil srdce jejich, aby očima neviděli a srdcem nerozuměli a neobrátili se, abych jich neuzdravil. 41 To pověděl Izaiáš, když viděl slávu jeho a mluvil o něm. 42 A ačkoli mnozí z knížat uvěřili v něho, však pro farizee nevyznávali ho, aby ze školy nebyli vyobcováni. 43 Nebo milovali slávu lidskou více než slávu Boží. 44 Ježíš pak zvolal a řekl: Kdo věří ve mne, ne ve mneť věří, ale v toho, jenž mne poslal. 45 A kdož vidí mne, vidí toho, kterýž mne poslal. 46 Já Světlo na svět jsem přišel, aby žádný, kdož věří ve mne, ve tmě nezůstal. 47 A slyšel-liť by kdo slova má, a nevěřil by, jáť ho nesoudím; nebo nepřišel jsem, abych soudil svět, ale abych spasen učinil svět. 48 Kdož mnou pohrdá a nepřijímá slov mých, máť, kdo by jej soudil. Slova, kteráž jsem mluvil, tať jej souditi budou v nejposlednější den. 49 Nebo já sám od sebe jsem nemluvil, ale ten, jenž mne poslal, Otec, on mi přikázaní dal, co bych měl praviti a mluviti. 50 A vím, že přikázání jeho jest život věčný. A protož, což já mluvím, jakž mi pověděl Otec, takť mluvím.
