1Und es traten heran die Töchter des Zelofhad, des Sohnes Hefers, des Sohnes Gileads, des Sohnes Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, von den Sippen Manasses, des Sohnes Josefs. Und dies waren die Namen seiner Töchter: Machla, Noa und Hogla und Milka und Tirza. (4Mo 26,33; 4Mo 36,11)2Und sie traten vor Mose und vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die Fürsten und die ganze Gemeinde an den Eingang des Zeltes der Begegnung und sagten: (2Mo 18,22; 4Mo 9,6; 4Mo 27,21; 4Mo 36,1)3Unser Vater ist in der Wüste gestorben; er war aber nicht inmitten der Rotte derer, die sich in der Rotte Korachs gegen den HERRN zusammenrotteten, sondern er ist in seiner ⟨eigenen⟩ Sünde[1] gestorben; aber er hatte keine Söhne. (4Mo 16,1; 4Mo 26,64; Röm 6,23)4Warum soll der Name unseres Vaters abgeschnitten werden aus der Mitte seiner Sippe, weil er keinen Sohn hat? Gib uns einen Grundbesitz inmitten der Brüder unseres Vaters!5Und Mose brachte ihre Rechtssache vor den HERRN. (3Mo 24,12; 4Mo 9,8)6Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach:7Die Töchter Zelofhads reden recht. Du musst ihnen in der Tat einen Erbbesitz inmitten der Brüder ihres Vaters geben, und du sollst das Erbteil ihres Vaters auf sie übergehen lassen! (4Mo 36,1; 4Mo 36,5; Jos 17,4; Hi 42,15)8Und zu den Söhnen Israel sollst du Folgendes reden: Wenn ein Mann stirbt und keinen Sohn hat, dann sollt ihr sein Erbteil auf seine Tochter übergehen lassen.9Und wenn er keine Tochter hat, dann sollt ihr sein Erbteil seinen Brüdern geben.10Und wenn er keine Brüder hat, dann sollt ihr sein Erbteil den Brüdern seines Vaters geben.11Und wenn sein Vater keine Brüder hat, dann sollt ihr sein Erbteil seinem Blutsverwandten geben, der ihm aus seiner Sippe am nächsten steht, damit der es erbt. Und das soll für die Söhne Israel zu einer Rechtsordnung werden, wie der HERR dem Mose geboten hat.
Josuas Einsetzung als Nachfolger Moses
12Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Steige auf das Gebirge Abarim dort und sieh das Land, das ich den Söhnen Israel gegeben habe! (1Mo 17,8; 4Mo 33,47; 5Mo 3,27)13Und wenn du es gesehen hast, dann wirst auch du zu deinen Völkern[2] versammelt werden, wie dein Bruder Aaron versammelt worden ist, (4Mo 20,24; 4Mo 31,2; 5Mo 31,14)14weil ihr euch in der Wüste Zin, beim Streit der Gemeinde, meinem Befehl widersetzt habt, mich durch das Wasser vor ihren Augen als heilig zu erweisen – das ist das Streitwasser von Kadesch in der Wüste Zin –. (4Mo 20,1; 4Mo 20,12; Apg 7,51)15Und Mose redete zu dem HERRN und sprach:16Der HERR, der Gott des Lebensgeistes[3] allen Fleisches, setze einen Mann über die Gemeinde ein, (4Mo 16,22; Offb 22,6)17der vor ihnen her ⟨zum Kampf⟩ auszieht und vor ihnen her ⟨ins Lager⟩ einzieht und der sie ausführt und sie einführt, damit die Gemeinde des HERRN nicht ist wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben! (1Kön 22,17; 2Chr 1,10; Mt 9,36)18Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Nimm dir Josua, den Sohn des Nun, einen Mann, in dem der Geist ist, und lege deine Hand auf ihn! (1Mo 41,38; 2Mo 17,9; 5Mo 31,14; 5Mo 34,9; Apg 6,3)19Und stelle ihn vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die ganze Gemeinde, und beauftrage ihn vor ihren Augen; (5Mo 31,7)20und lege von deiner Würde[4] ⟨einen Teil⟩ auf ihn, damit die ganze Gemeinde der Söhne Israel ihm gehorcht! (Jos 1,17)21Und er soll vor den Priester Eleasar treten, und der soll für ihn das Urteil[5] der Urim vor dem HERRN befragen. Auf dessen Befehl sollen sie ausziehen, und auf dessen Befehl sollen sie einziehen, er und alle Söhne Israel mit ihm, ja, die ganze Gemeinde. (2Mo 28,30; 5Mo 31,3; Jos 9,14; Ri 1,1; 1Sam 14,19)22Und Mose tat es, wie der HERR ihm geboten hatte, und nahm Josua und stellte ihn vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die ganze Gemeinde.23Und er legte seine Hände auf ihn und beauftragte ihn, wie der HERR durch Mose geredet hatte. (5Mo 3,21)
1The daughters of Zelophehad belonged to the family groups of Manasseh. Zelophehad was the son of Hepher. Hepher was the son of Gilead. Gilead was the son of Makir. Makir was the son of Manasseh. And Manasseh was the son of Joseph. The names of Zelophehad’s daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They approached2the entrance to the tent of meeting. There they stood in front of Moses and Eleazar the priest. The leaders and the whole community were there too. Zelophehad’s daughters said,3‘Our father died in the Sinai Desert. But he wasn’t one of the men who followed Korah. He wasn’t one of those who joined together against the LORD. Our father died because of his own sin. He didn’t leave any sons.4Why should our father’s name disappear from his family just because he didn’t have a son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.’5So Moses brought their case to the LORD.6The LORD said to him,7‘What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property. Give them a share among their father’s relatives. Give their father’s property to them.8‘Say to the Israelites, “Suppose a man dies who doesn’t have a son. Then give his property to his daughter.9Suppose the man doesn’t have a daughter. Then give his property to his brothers.10Suppose the man doesn’t have any brothers. Then give his property to his father’s brothers.11Suppose his father doesn’t have any brothers. Then give his property to the nearest male relative in his family group. It will belong to him. That is what the law will require of the Israelites. It is just as the LORD commanded me.” ’
Joshua becomes Israel’s new leader
12Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Go up this mountain in the Abarim Range. See the land I have given the Israelites.13After you have seen it, you too will join the members of your family who have already died. You will die, just as your brother Aaron did.14The community refused to obey me at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin. At that time, you and Aaron did not obey my command. You did not honour me in front of them as the holy God.’15Moses spoke to the LORD. He said,16‘LORD, you are the God who gives life and breath to all living things. Please put someone in charge of this community.17Have that person lead them and take care of them. Then your people won’t be like sheep without a shepherd.’18So the LORD said to Moses, ‘Joshua, the son of Nun, has the ability to be a wise leader. Get him and place your hand on him.19Have him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the whole community. Put him in charge while everyone is watching.20Give him some of your authority. Then the whole community of Israel will obey him.21Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.’22Moses did just as the LORD commanded him. He got Joshua and had him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the whole community.23Then Moses placed his hands on Joshua. And he put him in charge of the people. He did just as the LORD had instructed through Moses.
