1Und der HERR suchte Sara heim, wie er gesagt hatte, und der HERR tat an Sara, wie er geredet hatte. (1Mo 17,21; 1Sam 2,21; 2Kön 4,17)2Und Sara wurde schwanger und gebar dem Abraham einen Sohn in seinem Alter, zu der bestimmten Zeit, die Gott ihm gesagt hatte. (1Mo 18,10; Gal 4,22; Gal 4,28; Hebr 6,15; Hebr 11,11)3Und Abraham gab seinem Sohn, der ihm geboren worden war, den Sara ihm geboren hatte, den Namen Isaak. (1Mo 17,19; 1Mo 25,19; Jos 24,3; Mt 1,2; Lk 3,34)4Und Abraham beschnitt seinen Sohn Isaak, als er acht Tage alt war, wie Gott ihm geboten hatte. (1Mo 17,10; Apg 7,8)5Abraham aber war hundert Jahre alt, als ihm sein Sohn Isaak geboren wurde. (1Mo 16,16; 1Mo 17,17; 1Mo 25,26)6Und Sara sagte: Gott hat mir ein Lachen bereitet[1]; jeder, der es hört, wird mir zulachen[2]. (1Mo 18,12)7Und sie sagte: Wer hätte ⟨je⟩ dem Abraham verkündet: Sara stillt einen Sohn[3]! Denn ich habe ⟨ihm⟩ in seinem Alter einen Sohn geboren.
Ausweisung Hagars mit Ismael
8Und das Kind wuchs und wurde entwöhnt; und an dem Tag, als Isaak entwöhnt wurde, bereitete Abraham ein großes Mahl. (1Sam 1,24)9Und Sara sah den Sohn der Ägypterin Hagar, den diese dem Abraham geboren hatte, scherzen[4]. (1Mo 16,15)10Da sagte sie zu Abraham: Vertreibe diese Magd und ihren Sohn, denn der Sohn dieser Magd soll nicht mit meinem Sohn Erbe werden, mit Isaak! (Ri 11,2; Gal 4,29)11Und dieses Wort[5] war sehr übel in Abrahams Augen um seines Sohnes willen. (1Mo 17,18)12Aber Gott sprach zu Abraham: Lass es nicht übel sein in deinen Augen, wegen des Jungen und wegen deiner Magd; in allem, was Sara zu dir sagt, höre auf ihre Stimme! Denn nach Isaak soll dir ⟨die⟩ Nachkommenschaft genannt werden. (Röm 9,7; Hebr 11,18)13Doch auch den Sohn der Magd werde ich zu einer Nation machen, weil er dein Nachkomme ist. (1Mo 16,10)14Und Abraham machte sich früh am Morgen auf, und er nahm Brot und einen Schlauch Wasser und gab es der Hagar, legte es auf ihre Schulter und ⟨gab ihr⟩ das Kind[6] und schickte sie fort. Da ging sie hin und irrte in der Wüste von Beerscheba umher. (1Mo 22,3; 1Mo 28,18; Jos 3,1; 1Sam 15,12; 2Chr 29,20)15Als aber das Wasser im Schlauch zu Ende war, warf sie das Kind unter einen der Sträucher;16und sie ging und setzte sich gegenüber hin, einen Bogenschuss weit entfernt, denn sie sagte ⟨sich⟩: Ich kann das Sterben des Kindes nicht ansehen. So setzte sie sich gegenüber hin, erhob ihre Stimme[7] und weinte.17Gott aber hörte die Stimme des Jungen. Da rief der Engel Gottes der Hagar vom Himmel zu und sprach zu ihr: Was ist dir, Hagar? Fürchte dich nicht! Denn Gott hat auf die Stimme des Jungen gehört, dort wo er ist. (1Mo 16,8; 1Mo 16,11; Ps 10,14)18Steh auf, nimm den Jungen, und fasse ihn mit deiner Hand! Denn ich will ihn zu einer großen Nation machen. (1Mo 17,20)19Und Gott öffnete ihre Augen, und sie sah einen Wasserbrunnen; da ging sie hin und füllte den Schlauch mit Wasser und gab dem Jungen zu trinken.20Gott aber war mit dem Jungen, und er wurde groß und wohnte in der Wüste; und er wurde ein Bogenschütze. (1Mo 39,2)21Und er wohnte in der Wüste Paran, und seine Mutter nahm ihm eine Frau aus dem Land Ägypten. (1Mo 16,3; 4Mo 10,12; 1Sam 25,1)
Abrahams Vertrag mit Abimelech
22Und es geschah zu dieser Zeit, da sagten Abimelech und Pichol, sein Heeroberster, zu Abraham: Gott ist mit dir in allem, was du tust. (1Mo 26,26; 1Mo 26,28; 1Mo 39,3; 1Sam 24,22)23So schwöre mir nun hier bei Gott, dass du weder an mir noch an meinem Spross noch an meinen Nachkommen betrügerisch handeln wirst! Nach der Gnade, die ich dir erwiesen habe, sollst du an mir tun und an dem Land, in dem du dich als Fremder aufhältst. (1Mo 26,28; 1Mo 39,3; 1Sam 24,22)24Da sprach Abraham: Ich will schwören.25Abraham aber stellte Abimelech zur Rede wegen eines Wasserbrunnens, den Abimelechs Knechte ⟨mit Gewalt⟩ weggenommen hatten. (1Mo 26,20)26Da sagte Abimelech: Ich weiß[8] nicht, wer das getan hat; weder hast du es mir berichtet, noch habe ich ⟨davon⟩ gehört, außer heute.27Da nahm Abraham Schafe und Rinder und gab sie Abimelech, und die beiden schlossen einen Bund. (1Mo 26,31)28Und Abraham stellte sieben Schaflämmer der Herde beiseite.29Da sagte Abimelech zu Abraham: Was sollen diese sieben Schaflämmer, die du beiseitegestellt hast?30Und er sagte: Die sieben Schaflämmer sollst du von meiner Hand annehmen, damit mir ⟨das⟩ zum Zeugnis ist, dass ich diesen Brunnen gegraben habe. (1Mo 26,18)31Daher nennt man diesen Ort Beerscheba[9], weil sie beide dort geschworen hatten. (1Mo 26,23; 1Mo 26,33; 1Mo 46,1; Jos 15,28; 2Sam 24,7; 1Kön 19,3)32So schlossen sie einen Bund in Beerscheba. Dann machten Abimelech und sein Heeroberster Pichol sich auf und kehrten in das Land der Philister zurück.33Und Abraham[10] pflanzte eine Tamariske in Beerscheba und rief dort den Namen des HERRN, des ewigen Gottes[11], an. (1Mo 12,8; Jes 40,28; Jer 10,10)34Und Abraham hielt sich ⟨noch⟩ lange Zeit[12] als Fremder im Land der Philister auf. (1Mo 20,1)
1The LORD was gracious to Sarah, just as he had said he would be. The LORD did for Sarah what he had promised to do.2Sarah became pregnant. She had a son by Abraham when he was old. The child was born at the exact time God had promised.3Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah had by him.4When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him. He did it exactly as God had commanded him.5Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him.6Sarah said, ‘God has given laughter to me. Everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.’7She also said, ‘Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would breast-feed children? But I’ve had a son by him when he is old.’
Abraham sends Hagar and Ishmael away
8Isaac grew. The time came for his mother to stop breast-feeding him. On that day Abraham prepared a big celebration.9But Sarah saw Ishmael making fun of Isaac. Ishmael was the son Hagar had by Abraham. Hagar was Sarah’s Egyptian slave.10Sarah said to Abraham, ‘Get rid of that slave woman! Get rid of her son! That woman’s son will never have a share of the family’s property. All of it belongs to my son Isaac.’11What Sarah said upset Abraham very much. After all, Ishmael was his son.12But God said to Abraham, ‘Do not be so upset about the boy and your slave Hagar. Listen to what Sarah tells you, because your family line will continue through Isaac.13I will also make the son of your slave into a nation. I will do it because he is your child.’14Early the next morning Abraham got some food and a bottle of water. The bottle was made out of animal skin. He gave the food and water to Hagar, placing them on her shoulders. Then he sent her away with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.15When the water in the bottle was gone, she put the boy under a bush.16Then she sat down about as far away as a person can shoot an arrow. She thought, ‘I can’t stand to watch the boy die.’ As she sat there, she began to sob.17God heard the boy crying. Then the angel of God called out to Hagar from heaven. He said to her, ‘What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid. God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.18Lift up the boy and take him by the hand. I will make him into a great nation.’19Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the bottle with water and gave the boy a drink.20God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and learned to shoot a bow and arrow.21While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.
The agreement at Beersheba
22At that time Abimelek and his army commander, Phicol, spoke to Abraham. They said to Abraham, ‘God is with you in everything you do.23Now make a promise to me here while God is watching. Give me your word that you will treat me fairly. Promise that you will treat my children and their children the same way. I’ve been kind to you. Now you be kind to me and the country where you are living as an outsider.’24Abraham said, ‘I give you my word that I’ll do it.’25Then Abraham complained to Abimelek that his servants had taken over a well of water.26But Abimelek said, ‘I don’t know who has done this. You didn’t tell me. And today is the first time I heard about it.’27So Abraham gave Abimelek sheep and cattle. The two men came to an agreement.28Then Abraham picked out seven female lambs from his flock.29Abimelek asked Abraham, ‘What’s the meaning of these seven female lambs? Why have you picked them out and set them apart?’30Abraham replied, ‘Accept the seven lambs from me. They will be a witness that I dug this well.’31So that place was named Beersheba. That’s because there the two men came to an agreement.32After the agreement had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek went back to the land of the Philistines. His army commander, Phicol, went with him.33Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba. There he called on the name of the LORD, the God who lives for ever.34Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time.
