Der Tod des Täufers

1 Zu jener Zeit hörte Herodes^[1], der Vierfürst^[2], die Kunde von Jesus (Lk 3,1; Apg 13,1) 2 und sprach zu seinen Dienern: Dieser ist Johannes der Täufer; er ist von den Toten auferweckt worden, und darum wirken solche ⟨Wunder⟩kräfte in ihm. (Mt 16,14) 3 Denn Herodes hatte Johannes gegriffen, ihn gebunden und ins Gefängnis gesetzt um der Herodias^[3] willen, der Frau seines Bruders Philippus^[4]. (Mt 4,12; Joh 3,24) 4 Denn Johannes hatte ihm gesagt: Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu haben. (3Mo 18,16; Mt 19,9) 5 Und als er ihn töten wollte, fürchtete er die Volksmenge, weil sie ihn für einen Propheten hielten. (Mt 11,9; Mk 11,32) 6 Als aber der Geburtstag des Herodes begangen wurde, tanzte die Tochter der Herodias vor ihnen^[5], und sie gefiel dem Herodes. 7 Deshalb sagte er mit einem Eid zu, ihr zu geben, um was sie auch bitten würde. 8 Sie aber, von ihrer Mutter angewiesen^[6], sagt: Gib mir hier auf einer Schale das Haupt Johannes des Täufers! (2Chr 22,3) 9 Und der König wurde traurig; aber um der Eide und um derer willen, die mit zu Tisch lagen, befahl er, es zu geben. (4Mo 30,3) 10 Und er sandte hin und ließ den Johannes im Gefängnis enthaupten. (Mt 17,12) 11 Und sein Haupt wurde auf einer Schale gebracht und dem Mädchen gegeben, und sie brachte es ihrer Mutter. 12 Und seine Jünger kamen herbei, hoben den Leib auf und begruben ihn. Und sie kamen und verkündeten es Jesus. (Apg 8,2) 13 Und als Jesus es hörte, zog er sich von dort in einem Boot abseits an einen öden Ort zurück. Speisung der Fünftausend

14 Und als er ausstieg, sah er eine große Volksmenge, und er wurde innerlich bewegt über sie und heilte ihre Kranken. (Mt 4,24; Mt 9,36) 15 Als es aber Abend geworden war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sprachen: Der Ort ist öde, und die Zeit ist schon vergangen. Entlass die Volksmengen, dass sie hingehen in die Dörfer und sich Speise kaufen! 16 Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Sie haben nicht nötig wegzugehen. Gebt ihr ihnen zu essen! 17 Sie aber sagen zu ihm: Wir haben nichts hier als nur fünf Brote und zwei Fische. (4Mo 11,13; 2Kön 4,43) 18 Er aber sprach: Bringt sie mir her! 19 Und er befahl den Volksmengen, sich auf das Gras zu lagern, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte auf zum Himmel und dankte; und er brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern, die Jünger aber ⟨gaben sie⟩ den Volksmengen. Jesus geht auf dem See – Hilfe für den sinkenden Petrus

22 Und sogleich nötigte er die Jünger, in das Boot zu steigen und ihm an das jenseitige Ufer vorauszufahren, bis er die Volksmengen entlassen habe. 23 Und als er die Volksmengen entlassen hatte, stieg er für sich allein auf den Berg, um zu beten. Fürchtet euch nicht! 28 Petrus aber antwortete ihm und sprach: Herr, wenn du es bist, so befiehl mir, auf dem Wasser^[9] zu dir zu kommen! 29 Er aber sprach: Komm! Und Petrus stieg aus dem Boot und ging auf dem Wasser^[10] und kam auf Jesus zu. 30 Als er aber den starken Wind sah, fürchtete er sich; und als er anfing zu sinken, schrie er und sprach: Herr, rette mich! (Mt 8,25) 31 Sogleich aber streckte Jesus die Hand aus, ergriff ihn und spricht zu ihm: Kleingläubiger, warum zweifeltest du? L’exécution de Jean-Baptiste

1 A cette époque, Hérode, le gouverneur de la Galilée, entendit parler de Jésus. (Mk 6,14; Lk 3,19; Lk 9,7) 2 – Cet homme, dit-il à ses courtisans, c’est sûrement Jean-Baptiste: le voilà ressuscité des morts! C’est pour cela qu’il détient le pouvoir de faire des miracles. 3 En effet, Hérode avait ordonné d’arrêter Jean, l’avait fait enchaîner et jeter en prison, à cause d’Hérodiade, la femme de Philippe, son demi-frère, 4 parce qu’il lui disait: Tu n’as pas le droit de la prendre pour femme. 5 Hérode cherchait donc à le faire mourir. Mais il craignait la foule, car elle considérait Jean-Baptiste comme un prophète. 6 Or, le jour de l’anniversaire d’Hérode, la fille d’Hérodiade exécuta une danse devant les invités. Hérode était sous son charme: 7 aussi lui promit-il, avec serment, de lui donner tout ce qu’elle demanderait. 8 A l’instigation de sa mère, elle lui dit: Donne-moi ici, sur un plat, la tête de Jean-Baptiste. 9 Cette demande attrista le roi. Mais à cause de son serment et de ses invités, il donna l’ordre de la lui accorder. 10 Il envoya un soldat décapiter Jean-Baptiste dans la prison. 11 La tête de ce dernier fut apportée sur un plat et remise à la jeune fille qui la porta à sa mère. 12 Les disciples de Jean-Baptiste vinrent prendre son corps pour l’enterrer, puis ils allèrent informer Jésus de ce qui s’était passé.

Avec cinq pains et deux poissons

13 Quand Jésus entendit la nouvelle, il quitta la contrée en bateau et se retira, à l’écart, dans un endroit désert. Mais les foules l’apprirent; elles sortirent de leurs bourgades et le suivirent à pied. (Mk 6,30; Lk 9,10; Joh 6,1) 14 Aussi, quand Jésus descendit du bateau, il vit une foule nombreuse. Alors il fut pris de compassion pour elle et guérit les malades. 15 Le soir venu, les disciples s’approchèrent de lui et lui dirent: Cet endroit est désert et il se fait tard; renvoie donc ces gens pour qu’ils aillent dans les villages voisins s’acheter de la nourriture. 16 Mais Jésus leur dit: Ils n’ont pas besoin d’y aller: donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger! 17 – Mais, lui répondirent-ils, nous n’avons ici que cinq pains et deux poissons. 18 – Apportez-les moi, leur dit Jésus. 19 Il ordonna à la foule de s’asseoir sur l’herbe, puis il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, il leva les yeux vers le ciel et prononça la prière de bénédiction; ensuite, il partagea les pains et les donna aux disciples qui les distribuèrent à la foule. 20 Tout le monde mangea à satiété. On ramassa les morceaux qui restaient; on en remplit douze paniers. 21 Ceux qui avaient mangé étaient au nombre de cinq mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.

Jésus marche sur les eaux

22 Aussitôt après, Jésus pressa ses disciples de remonter dans le bateau pour qu’ils le précèdent de l’autre côté du lac, pendant qu’il renverrait la foule. (Mk 6,45; Joh 6,16) 23 Quand tout le monde se fut dispersé, il gravit une colline pour prier à l’écart. A la tombée de la nuit, il était là, tout seul. 24 Pendant ce temps, à plusieurs centaines de mètres au large, le bateau luttait contre les vagues, car le vent était contraire. 25 Vers la fin de la nuit, Jésus se dirigea vers ses disciples en marchant sur les eaux du lac. 26 Quand ils le virent marcher sur l’eau, ils furent pris de panique: C’est un fantôme, dirent-ils. Et ils se mirent à pousser des cris de frayeur. 27 Mais Jésus leur parla aussitôt: Rassurez-vous, leur dit-il, c’est moi, n’ayez pas peur! 28 Alors Pierre lui dit: Si c’est bien toi, Seigneur, ordonne-moi de venir te rejoindre sur l’eau. 29 – Viens, lui dit Jésus. Aussitôt, Pierre descendit du bateau et se mit à marcher sur l’eau, en direction de Jésus. 30 Mais quand il remarqua combien le vent soufflait fort, il prit peur et, comme il commençait à s’enfoncer, il s’écria: Seigneur, sauve-moi! 31 Aussitôt, Jésus lui tendit la main et le saisit. – Ta foi est bien petite! lui dit-il, pourquoi as-tu douté? 32 Puis ils montèrent tous deux dans le bateau; le vent tomba. 33 Les hommes qui se trouvaient dans l’embarcation se prosternèrent devant lui en disant: Tu es vraiment le Fils de Dieu.

Les guérisons à Génésareth

34 Après avoir traversé le lac, ils touchèrent terre à Génésareth^[1]. (Mk 6,53) 35 Quand les habitants du lieu eurent reconnu Jésus, ils firent prévenir tout le voisinage, et on lui amena tous les malades. 36 Ils le suppliaient de leur permettre simplement de toucher la frange de son vêtement. Et tous ceux qui la touchaient étaient guéris.
