1Jesus nun kam sechs Tage vor dem Passah nach Betanien, wo Lazarus war, den Jesus aus den Toten auferweckt hatte. (Mt 26,6; Mk 14,3; Joh 11,14; Joh 12,9)2Sie machten ihm nun dort ein Abendessen[1], und Marta diente; Lazarus aber war einer von denen, die mit ihm zu Tisch lagen. Anschläge der Hohen Priester gegen Lazarus
9Die große Volksmenge aus den Juden erfuhr nun, dass er dort war; und sie kamen nicht um Jesu willen allein, sondern damit sie auch den Lazarus sähen, den er aus den Toten auferweckt hatte. (Joh 12,1)10Die Hohen Priester aber ratschlagten, auch den Lazarus zu töten, (Lk 16,31)11weil viele von den Juden um seinetwillen hingingen und an Jesus glaubten. (Joh 4,39)
Einzug in Jerusalem
12Am folgenden Tag, als die große Volksmenge, die zu dem Fest gekommen war, hörte, dass Jesus nach Jerusalem komme, (Mt 21,1; Mk 11,1; Lk 19,28)13nahmen sie die Palmzweige und gingen hinaus, ihm entgegen, und schrien: Hosanna![7] Gepriesen ⟨sei⟩, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn, und der König Israels! (Ps 118,26; Mt 23,39; Joh 1,49; Joh 18,37)14Jesus aber fand einen jungen Esel und setzte sich darauf, wie geschrieben steht:15»Fürchte dich nicht, Tochter Zion! Siehe, dein König kommt, sitzend auf einem Eselsfüllen.« (Sach 9,9)16Dies verstanden seine Jünger zuerst nicht; jedoch als Jesus verherrlicht war, da erinnerten sie sich, dass dies von ihm geschrieben war und sie ihm dies getan hatten. Über das Sterben des Menschensohnes
20Es waren aber einige Griechen[8] unter denen, die hinaufkamen, um auf dem Fest anzubeten. (1Kön 8,41; Apg 8,27)21Diese nun kamen zu Philippus von Betsaida in Galiläa und baten ihn und sagten: Herr, wir möchten Jesus sehen. (Lk 19,3; Joh 1,44)22Philippus kommt und sagt es Andreas, es kommt Andreas und Philippus, und sie sagen es Jesus.23Jesus aber antwortet ihnen und spricht: Die Stunde ist gekommen, dass der Sohn des Menschen verherrlicht wird. (Mt 26,45; Joh 13,31; Joh 17,1; Apg 3,13)24Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wenn das Weizenkorn nicht in die Erde fällt und stirbt, bleibt es allein; wenn es aber stirbt, bringt es viel Frucht. (Jer 13,16; Joh 7,33; Joh 8,12; Joh 11,10)36Während ihr das Licht habt, glaubt an das Licht, damit ihr Söhne des Lichtes werdet! Dies redete Jesus und ging weg und verbarg sich vor ihnen. Unglaube und Glaube bei den Juden
37Obwohl er aber so viele Zeichen vor ihnen getan hatte, glaubten sie nicht an ihn, (Joh 2,23; Joh 11,47; Apg 2,22)38damit das Wort des Propheten Jesaja erfüllt wurde, das er sprach: »Herr, wer hat unserer Verkündigung geglaubt, und wem ist der Arm des Herrn offenbart worden?« (Jes 53,1; Röm 10,16)39Darum konnten sie nicht glauben, weil Jesaja wieder gesagt hat:40»Er hat ihre Augen verblendet und ihr Herz verstockt, dass sie nicht mit den Augen sehen und mit dem Herzen verstehen und sich bekehren und ich sie heile.« (Ps 81,13; Jes 6,10; Mt 13,14)41Dies sprach Jesaja, weil er seine Herrlichkeit sah und von ihm redete. (Jes 6,1)42Dennoch aber glaubten auch von den Obersten viele an ihn; doch wegen der Pharisäer bekannten sie ⟨ihn⟩ nicht, damit sie nicht aus der Synagoge ausgeschlossen wurden; (Joh 7,13; Joh 9,22)43denn sie liebten die Ehre bei den Menschen mehr als die Ehre bei Gott[13]. Abschluss der öffentlichen Wirksamkeit Jesu: Folgen des Glaubens und des Unglaubens
44Jesus aber rief und sprach: Wer an mich glaubt, glaubt nicht an mich, sondern an den, der mich gesandt hat; (Mt 10,40; Joh 7,16; Joh 13,20; 1Petr 1,21)45und wer mich sieht, sieht den, der mich gesandt hat. (Joh 14,9; 2Kor 4,6; Kol 1,15; Hebr 1,3)46Ich bin als Licht in die Welt gekommen, damit jeder, der an mich glaubt, nicht in der Finsternis bleibt; (Joh 1,9; Joh 8,12; Joh 12,35; 1Petr 2,9)47und wenn jemand meine Worte hört und nicht befolgt[14], so richte ich ihn nicht, denn ich bin nicht gekommen, dass ich die Welt richte, sondern dass ich die Welt rette. The Plot to Kill Lazarus
9When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus[4] was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. (Joh 11,44)10So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, (Lk 16,31)11because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. (Joh 11,45; Joh 12,18)
The Triumphal Entry
12The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. (Mt 21,4; Mk 11,7; Lk 19,35)13So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (Ps 118,25; Ps 118,26; Joh 1,49; Joh 5,43; Offb 7,9)14And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,15“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” (Sach 9,9)16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. (Joh 2,22; Joh 7,39; Joh 12,23; Joh 13,7)17The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. (Lk 19,37)18The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. (Joh 12,9)19So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Some Greeks Seek Jesus
20Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. (1Kön 8,41; Mk 7,26; Mk 7,35; Apg 8,27; Apg 17,4)21So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” (Joh 1,44)22Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. (Mk 13,3)23And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (Mk 2,4; Mk 14,41; Joh 12,16; Joh 12,27; Joh 13,31; Joh 13,32; Joh 17,1)24Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Jesus Came to Save the World

Ingresso trionfale di Gesù a Gerusalemme

Alcuni Greci desiderano vedere Gesù
20Ora tra quelli che salivano alla festa per adorare c’erano alcuni Greci.21Questi dunque, avvicinatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsàida di Galilea, gli fecero questa richiesta: «Signore, vorremmo vedere Gesù».22Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea; e Andrea e Filippo andarono a dirlo a Gesù.
Gesù annuncia la sua crocifissione
23Gesù rispose loro, dicendo: «L’ora è venuta, che il Figlio dell’uomo deve essere glorificato.24In verità, in verità vi dico che se il granello di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane solo; ma se muore, produce molto frutto.25Chi ama la sua vita la perde, e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo la conserverà in vita eterna.26Se uno mi serve, mi segua, e là dove sono io sarà anche il mio servitore; se uno mi serve, il Padre l’onorerà.27Ora l’animo mio è turbato[4]; e che dirò? Padre, salvami da quest’ora? Ma è per questo che sono venuto incontro a quest’ora.28Padre, glorifica il tuo nome!» Allora venne una voce dal cielo: «L’ho glorificato e lo glorificherò di nuovo!»29Perciò la folla che era presente e aveva udito, diceva che era stato un tuono. A chi è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?»[5]39Perciò non potevano credere, per la ragione detta ancora da Isaia:40«Egli ha accecato i loro occhi e ha indurito i loro cuori, affinché non vedano con gli occhi, non comprendano con il cuore, non si convertano e io non li guarisca»[6].41Queste cose disse Isaia, perché vide la gloria di lui e di lui parlò.42Ciò nonostante molti, anche tra i capi, credettero in lui; ma a causa dei farisei non lo confessavano, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga;43perché amarono la gloria degli uomini più della gloria di Dio.44Ma Gesù ad alta voce esclamò: «Chi crede in me, crede non in me, ma in colui che mi ha mandato;45e chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.46Io sono venuto come luce nel mondo, affinché chiunque crede in me non rimanga nelle tenebre.47Se uno ode le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo giudico; perché io non sono venuto a giudicare il mondo, ma a salvare il mondo.48Chi mi respinge e non riceve le mie parole ha chi lo giudica; la parola che ho annunciata è quella che lo giudicherà nell’ultimo giorno.49Perché io non ho parlato di mio; ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, mi ha comandato lui quello che devo dire e di cui devo parlare;50e so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna. Le cose dunque che io dico, le dico così come il Padre me le ha dette».
