(Joh 18,27)

Johannes 13

English Standard Version

1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (Joh 1,11; Joh 6,4; Joh 12,1; Joh 12,23; Joh 13,3; Joh 13,34; Joh 16,28; Joh 17,6; Joh 17,9)2 During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, (Joh 6,70; Joh 6,71; Joh 13,11; Apg 5,3)3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, (Mt 11,27; Joh 8,42; Joh 14,12; Joh 16,28; Joh 17,2; Offb 2,27)4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. (Lk 22,27; Joh 21,7)5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. (2Kön 3,11)6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” (Joh 12,16; Joh 13,12; Joh 13,36; Joh 15,15)8 Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” (Mt 16,22; 1Kor 6,11; Eph 5,26; Tit 3,5; Hebr 10,22)9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”10 Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet,[1] but is completely clean. And you[2] are clean, but not every one of you.” (1Mo 18,4; Joh 13,18; Joh 15,3)11 For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.” (Joh 2,24; Joh 2,25; Joh 6,64; Joh 13,2)12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? (Joh 13,4; Joh 13,7)13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. (Mt 23,8; Mt 23,10; Lk 6,46; 1Kor 8,6; 1Kor 12,3; Phil 2,11)14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. (1Tim 5,10; 1Petr 5,5)15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. (Mt 11,29)16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant[3] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. (Mt 10,24; Joh 15,20)17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. (Lk 11,28; Jak 1,22)18 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled,[4] ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ (Ps 41,9; Mt 26,23; Mk 3,13; Lk 6,13; Joh 6,70; Joh 13,10; Joh 15,16; Joh 15,19; Joh 17,12; Apg 1,2)19 I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. (Joh 14,29; Joh 16,4)20 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.” (Mt 10,40)21 After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” (Mt 26,21; Mk 14,18; Lk 22,21; Joh 12,27; Apg 1,17)22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. (Lk 22,23)23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side,[5] (Lk 16,22; Joh 19,26; Joh 20,2; Joh 21,7; Joh 21,20)24 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus[6] of whom he was speaking.25 So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” (Mk 4,36; Joh 21,20)26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. (Rut 2,14; Mt 26,23; Mt 26,25; Mk 14,20; Joh 6,71)27 Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” (Lk 12,50; Lk 22,3; 1Kor 11,27)28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him.29 Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. (Joh 12,5; Joh 12,6; Joh 13,1)30 So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night. (1Sam 28,8)31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. (Joh 7,39; Joh 14,13; Joh 15,8; Joh 17,1; Joh 17,4; 1Petr 4,11)32 If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. (Joh 12,23; Joh 17,1; Joh 17,5)33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ (Joh 7,33; Joh 7,34; Joh 8,21)34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. (3Mo 19,18; Joh 15,12; Joh 15,17; Röm 13,8; Eph 5,2; Kol 3,14; 1Thess 4,9; 1Tim 1,5; 1Petr 1,22; 1Joh 2,7; 1Joh 2,8; 1Joh 3,11; 1Joh 3,23; 1Joh 4,10; 1Joh 4,11; 1Joh 4,21; 2Joh 1,5)35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (1Joh 3,14; 1Joh 4,20)36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.” (Joh 7,34; Joh 13,7; Joh 14,2; Joh 21,18; Joh 21,19; 2Petr 1,14)37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” (Mt 26,33; Mk 14,29; Lk 22,33; Lk 22,34)38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times. (Joh 18,27)

King James Version

1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

Johannes 13

Nuova Riveduta 2006
