2Count it all joy, my brothers,[2] when you meet trials of various kinds, (太5:12; 彼前1:6)3for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. (羅5:3; 來10:36; 雅5:11; 彼前1:7; 彼后1:6)4And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (太5:48; 帖前5:23)5If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (王上3:9; 箴2:3; 箴28:5; 太7:7)6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (赛57:20; 太21:21; 可11:24; 弗4:14)7For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (雅4:8; 彼后2:14; 彼后3:16)9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation,10and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass[3] he will pass away. (诗102:4; 诗102:11; 耶9:23; 林前7:31; 彼前1:24)11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. (赛40:7)12Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (但12:12; 太10:22; 林前9:25; 提后4:8; 雅2:5; 雅5:11; 彼前3:14; 彼前5:4; 启2:10; 启3:11)13Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.14But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.15Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. (伯15:35; 诗7:14; 赛59:4; 羅5:12; 羅6:23)16Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.[4] (诗85:12; 玛3:6; 约3:27; 林前4:7; 约一1:5)18Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. (耶2:3; 约1:13; 羅8:19; 加4:19; 弗1:12; 彼前1:3; 彼前1:23; 启14:4)
Hearing and Doing the Word
19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; (箴10:19; 箴14:29; 箴17:27; 传5:1; 约一2:21)20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (林前15:2; 弗1:13; 西3:8; 雅3:13)22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (太7:21; 太7:24; 路8:21; 约13:17; 羅2:13; 雅2:14)23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (诗1:1; 路11:28; 约8:32; 加2:4; 加5:1; 加5:13; 雅2:12; 彼前2:16; 彼后2:19)26If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. (诗34:13; 诗39:1; 诗141:3; 徒26:5; 雅3:2; 雅3:6)27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (伯31:17; 赛1:17; 赛1:23; 太25:36; 提前5:22; 彼后3:14; 约一5:18)
