1 Vlídná odpověď odvrací rozhořčení, kdežto slovo, které ubližuje, popouzí k hněvu. 2 Jazyk moudrých přináší dobré poznání, kdežto ústa hlupáků chrlí pošetilost. 3 Oči Hospodinovy jsou na každém místě, pozorně sledují zlé i dobré. 4 Mírný jazyk je stromem života, kdežto pokřivený rozkládá ducha. 5 Pošetilec znevažuje otcovské kárání, kdežto kdo na domluvy dbá, jedná chytře. 6 Dům spravedlivého je rozsáhlou klenotnicí, kdežto z výtěžku svévolníkova vzejde rozvrat. 7 Rty moudrých rozsívají poznání, ale ne tak srdce hlupáků. 8 Hospodinu je ohavností oběť svévolníků, kdežto v modlitbě přímých má zalíbení. 9 Hospodinu je ohavností cesta svévolníka, ale miluje toho, kdo následuje spravedlnost. 10 Tvrdý trest postihne toho, kdo opouští stezku, kdo domluvy nenávidí, zemře. 11 I podsvětí, říše zkázy, je na očích Hospodinu, tím spíše srdce synů lidských. 12 Posměvač nemiluje toho, kdo mu domlouvá, k moudrým nechodí. 13 Radostným srdcem zkrásní tvář, kdežto trápení srdce ubíjí ducha. 14 Rozumné srdce hledá poznání, kdežto ústa hlupáků se honí za pošetilostí. 15 Všechny dny utištěného jsou zlé, kdežto kdo je dobré mysli, má hody každodenně. 16 Je lépe mít málo a bát se Hospodina, než mít velký poklad a s ním neklid. 17 Lepší je jídlo ze zeleniny a k tomu láska, než z vykrmeného býka a s tím nenávist. 18 Vznětlivý muž rozněcuje sváry, kdežto shovívavý spory uklidňuje. 19 Cesta lenocha je zarostlá trním, kdežto stezka přímých je upravená. 20 Syn moudrý dělá radost otci, kdežto člověk hloupý pohrdá svou matkou. 21 Z pošetilosti se raduje, kdo nemá rozum, kdežto rozumný muž chodí přímo. 22 Plány selžou bez společné porady, kdežto při množství rádců se uskuteční. 23 Člověk má radost, když může dát odpověď, jak je dobré slovo v pravý čas! 24 Stezka života vede prozíravého vzhůru, aby unikl podsvětí dole. 25 Hospodin strhne dům pyšných, kdežto mezníky vdovy vytyčuje. 26 Zlé plány jsou Hospodinu ohavností, kdežto vlídná řeč je čistá. 27 Kdo se žene za ziskem, rozvrací svůj dům, kdežto kdo o dary nestojí, bude živ. 28 Srdce spravedlivého rozjímá, co odpovědět, kdežto ústa svévolníků chrlí samou zlobu. 29 Hospodin je daleko od svévolníků, kdežto modlitbu spravedlivých vyslýchá. 30 Zářivý pohled vlévá do srdce radost, dobrá zpráva vzpružuje kosti. 31 Ucho, které poslouchá životodárné domluvy, bude přebývat mezi moudrými. 32 Kdo se vyhýbá trestu, neváží si vlastního života, kdežto kdo domluvy poslouchá, získává rozum. 33 Bázeň před Hospodinem napomíná k moudrosti, slávu předchází pokora.
