1Puesto que el Mesías padeció en la carne, vosotros también armaos con el mismo pensamiento: El que padeció en la carne terminó con el pecado,2para no vivir ya el tiempo restante en la carne, en las pasiones de los hombres, sino en la voluntad de Dios.3Porque el tiempo pasado basta para haber hecho la voluntad de los gentiles, viviendo en lascivias, en concupiscencias, en embriagueces, en desenfrenos, en orgías y en idolatrías abominables.4En lo cual se extrañan de que no corráis con ellos al mismo exceso de disolución, insultándoos.5Ellos darán cuenta al que está preparado para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.6Porque para esto fue proclamado el evangelio también a los muertos, a fin de que fueran juzgados según los hombres en cuanto a la carne, pero que vivan según Dios en cuanto al espíritu.7Pero el fin de todas las cosas está cerca. Sed pues sobrios, y vigilantes en las oraciones,8teniendo ante todo ferviente y constante amor entre vosotros, porque el amor cubre multitud de pecados.9Sed hospitalarios los unos para con los otros, sin murmuración.10Cada uno según el don que recibió, minístrelo a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios.11Si alguno habla, hágalo conforme a oráculos de Dios; si alguno ministra, ministre conforme a la virtud del poder que Dios da, para que en todo sea Dios glorificado por medio de Jesús el Mesías, a quien pertenecen la gloria y el poder por los siglos de los siglos, amén.
El fuego de la prueba
12Amados, no os sorprendáis por el fuego que os ha sobrevenido, que os sucede para prueba, como si algo extraño os aconteciera.13Más bien regocijaos por cuanto sois participantes de los padecimientos del Mesías, para que también en la revelación de su gloria os regocijéis con gozo inefable.14Si sois insultados por el nombre del Mesías, sois bienaventurados; porque el Espíritu de gloria y de Dios reposa sobre vosotros.15Pero ninguno de vosotros padezca como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o como entrometido.16Pero si padece como Cristiano, no se avergüence, al contrario, glorifique a Dios por este nombre.17Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience por la casa de Dios; y si primero por nosotros, ¿cuál será el fin de los que no obedecen al evangelio de Dios?18Y: Si el justo con dificultad se salva, ¿En dónde aparecerá el impío y el pecador?19Por tanto, también los que padecen según la voluntad de Dios haciendo el bien, encomienden sus almas al fiel Creador.
1Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh,[1] arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, (Ro 6:2; Ro 6:7; Gl 5:24; Ef 6:13; Col 3:3; Col 3:5; 1 P 3:18; 2 P 2:14)2so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. (Hch 10:42; Stg 5:9)6For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does. (1 P 3:19)7The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. (Mt 26:41; Lc 21:36; Stg 5:8; 1 P 1:13)8Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Co 13:5; Stg 5:20)9Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. (1 Ti 3:2; Tit 1:8; Heb 13:2)10As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: (Mt 25:15; Lc 12:42; Ro 12:6; 1 Co 4:1; 1 Co 4:7; Tit 1:7)11whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Suffering as a Christian
12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. (1 P 1:7)13But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. (Hch 5:41; Ro 8:17; Flp 3:10; 1 P 1:5; 1 P 5:1; Jud 1:24)14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory[2] and of God rests upon you. (Sal 89:51; Mt 5:11; Jn 15:21; Heb 11:26)15But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. (1 Ts 4:11; 2 Ts 3:11; 1 Ti 5:13; 1 P 2:19; 1 P 3:14; 1 P 3:17)16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. (Hch 26:28; 1 P 4:14; 1 P 4:15)17For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (Jer 25:29; Ez 9:6; Am 3:2; Lc 23:31; Ro 2:9; 2 Ts 1:8)18And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”[3] (Pr 11:31)19Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. (Sal 10:14; Sal 31:5; Lc 23:46; 2 Ti 1:12)
