1De la misma manera, esposas, estad sujetas a vuestros propios maridos, para que también los que no creen a la Palabra, sean ganados sin palabra por la conducta de sus esposas,2al observar vuestra reverente y casta manera de vivir.3Vuestro atavío no sea el exterior, de trenzado de cabellos y atavíos de oro, o de uso de vestidos lujosos,4sino el interior del corazón del ser, en lo incorruptible de un espíritu afable y apacible, el cual es muy precioso delante de Dios.5Porque así también se ataviaban en otro tiempo las santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, estando sujetas a sus maridos;6como Sara obedecía a Abraham, llamándolo señor; de la cual vosotras fuisteis hechas hijas haciendo el bien, sin temer a ninguna amenaza.7De igual manera, los esposos, convivid con comprensión, mostrando honor a la esposa como a vaso más frágil, y como a coherederas de la gracia de la vida, para que vuestras oraciones no tengan estorbo.
Una vida santa
8En conclusión, sed todos de un mismo sentir, compasivos, amándoos como hermanos, misericordiosos, humildes;9no devolviendo mal por mal, ni maldición por maldición, sino bendiciendo, pues para esto fuisteis llamados, para que heredarais bendición.10Porque: El que desea amar la vida, Y ver días buenos, Refrene su lengua del mal, Y sus labios de hablar engaño,11Apártese del mal, y haga el bien, Busque la paz, y sígala.12Porque los ojos del Señor están sobre los justos, Y sus oídos hacia su oración, Pero el rostro del Señor está contra los que hacen cosas malas.13¿Y quién es el que os perjudicará si os mostráis celosos por lo bueno?14Y aun si sufrís a causa de la justicia, sois bienaventurados. No os amedrentéis por temor a ellos, ni os turbéis;15sino santificad al Mesías como Señor en vuestros corazones, y estad siempre prestos para presentar defensa ante todo el que os demande razón acerca de la esperanza que hay en vosotros,16pero con mansedumbre y reverencia, teniendo buena conciencia, para que en lo que murmuran de vosotros, sean avergonzados los que ofenden vuestra buena conducta en el Mesías.17Porque mejor es que padezcáis obrando bien, si lo quiere la voluntad de Dios, que obrando mal.
El fruto de la aflicción
18Porque también el Mesías padeció una vez por los pecados, el Justo por los injustos, para llevaros a Dios; muerto en la carne, pero vivificado en el espíritu;19en el cual también fue a predicar a los espíritus encarcelados,20que en un tiempo desobedecieron, cuando esperaba la paciencia de Dios en los días de Noé, mientras se preparaba el arca, en la cual unos pocos, es decir, ocho personas, fueron salvadas a través del agua.21El bautismo que corresponde a esto ahora os salva (no por remoción de la inmundicia de la carne, sino como respuesta de una buena conciencia hacia Dios) por medio de la resurrección de Jesús el Mesías,22quien habiendo ascendido al cielo, está a la diestra de Dios, habiéndosele sometido ángeles, autoridades y potestades.

(Ro 2:29; Ro 7:22; 2 Co 4:16; Ef 3:16)5For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands,6as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (Gn 18:12; Pr 3:25)7Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you[1] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. (Ef 5:25; Col 3:19; 1 Ts 4:4)
Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
8Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. (Ro 12:16; Ef 4:2; Ef 4:32; Heb 13:1)9Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. (Lc 6:28; Ro 12:14; Ro 12:17; 1 Co 4:12; 1 P 2:21; 1 P 2:23)10For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; (Sal 34:12)11let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? (Pr 16:7)14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, (Is 8:12; Mt 5:10; Mt 10:28; Jn 14:1; Jn 14:27; 1 P 2:19; 1 P 3:6; 1 P 4:14; 1 P 4:16)15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (Is 29:23; Mt 6:9; Col 4:6; 2 Ti 2:25; 1 P 1:17)16having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. (Heb 13:18; 1 P 2:12)17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. (1 P 2:20; 1 P 4:15)18For Christ also suffered[2] once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, (Ro 4:25; Ro 5:2; 2 Co 13:4; Col 1:22; Heb 9:26; Heb 9:28; 1 P 2:21; 1 P 4:1; 1 P 4:6)19in which[3] he went and proclaimed[4] to the spirits in prison, (1 P 3:18)20because[5] they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. (Gn 6:3; Gn 6:5; Gn 6:13; Gn 7:1; Gn 7:7; Gn 7:23; Gn 8:18; Heb 11:7; 2 P 2:5)21Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (Mr 16:16; Hch 16:33; Ro 6:3; Ro 10:10; Tit 3:5; 1 P 1:3)22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him. (Hch 2:33; Ro 8:34; Ro 8:38; 1 Co 15:24; Ef 1:20; Ef 1:21; Col 3:1; Heb 1:3)
