1Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (Salm 100,5; Salm 105,1)2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble[1] (Salm 106,10; Es 62,12; Es 63,4)3and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. (5.Mos 30,3; Salm 106,47; Es 11,12; Es 43,5; Es 56,8; Jer 29,14; Jer 31,8; Jer 31,10; Ez 20,34; Ez 20,41; Ez 39,27)4Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; (5.Mos 32,10; Salm 107,36; Salm 107,40)5hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. (Salm 77,3)6Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Salm 106,44; Salm 107,13; Salm 107,19; Salm 107,28)7He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. (Ez 8,21; Salm 107,4)8Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Salm 107,15; Salm 107,21; Salm 107,31)9For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. (Salm 34,10; Salm 146,7; Luk 1,53)10Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, (Job 10,21; Job 36,8; Salm 107,14; Es 42,7; Es 49,9; Mika 7,8; Luk 1,79)11for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. (5.Mos 31,20; Salm 78,40; Salm 106,7; Salm 106,33; Salm 106,43; Ord 1,30; Ord 5,12; Ord 15,5; Luk 7,30)12So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. (Salm 22,11)13Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Salm 107,6; Salm 107,19; Salm 107,28)14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. (Salm 2,3; Salm 107,10)15Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Salm 107,8; Salm 107,21; Salm 107,31)16For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. (Es 45,2)17Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; (Ord 1,7; Ord 14,9)18they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. (Job 33,20; Job 33,22; Job 38,17; Salm 88,3)19Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Salm 107,6; Salm 107,13; Salm 107,28)20He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. (2.Kong 20,5; Job 33,29; Salm 30,2; Salm 103,4; Salm 147,15; Salm 147,18; Matt 8,8)21Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Salm 107,8; Salm 107,15; Salm 107,31)22And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy! (Salm 9,11; Salm 50,14; Salm 105,43; Salm 118,17)23Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; (Es 42,10)24they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep.25For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. (Salm 105,31; Salm 105,34; Salm 148,8; Jonas 1,4)26They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; (Salm 22,14; Salm 119,28)27they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end.[2] (Job 12,25; Es 19,3; Es 24,20; Es 29,9)28Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Salm 107,6; Salm 107,13; Salm 107,19)29He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. (Salm 65,7)30Then they were glad that the waters[3] were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.31Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Salm 107,8; Salm 107,15; Salm 107,21)32Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. (Salm 22,22; Salm 22,25; Salm 99,5)33He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, (Es 42,15; Es 50,2)34a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants. (1.Mos 13,10; 1.Mos 14,3; 1.Mos 19,24; 5.Mos 29,23)35He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water. (Job 38,26; Salm 114,8; Es 35,6; Es 41,18; Es 43,19)36And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; (Salm 107,4; Salm 107,7)37they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield.38By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish. (1.Mos 12,2; 1.Mos 17,20; 2.Mos 1,7)39When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow,40he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; (5.Mos 32,10; Job 12,21; Job 12,24)41but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. (1.Sam 2,8; Job 21,11; Salm 113,7)42The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. (Job 22,19; Salm 63,11)43Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord. (Salm 64,9; Jer 9,12; Hos 14,9)
