1 I stalo se po mnohých dnech, když dal Hospodin odpočinutí Izraelovi ode všech nepřátel jejich vůkol, a Jozue se sstaral a sešel věkem, 2 Že povolav Jozue všeho Izraele, starších jeho i předních jeho soudců i správců jeho, řekl jim: Já jsem se sstaral a sešel věkem. 3 A vy jste viděli všecko to, co jest učinil Hospodin Bůh váš všechněm národům těm před oblíčejem vaším; nebo Hospodin Bůh váš onť bojoval za vás. 4 Pohleďte, losem rozdělil jsem vám ty národy pozůstalé v dědictví po pokoleních vašich od Jordánu, i všecky národy, kteréž jsem vyplénil až k moři velikému na západ slunce. 5 Hospodin pak Bůh váš onť je vyžene od tváři vaší, a vypudí je před oblíčejem vaším, a vy dědičně obdržíte zemi jejich, jakož mluvil vám Hospodin Bůh váš. 6 Protož zmužile se mějte, abyste ostříhali a činili všecko, což psáno jest v knize zákona Mojžíšova, a neodstupovali od něho na pravo ani na levo. 7 Nesměšujte se s těmi národy, kteříž pozůstávají s vámi, a jména bohů jejich nepřipomínejte, ani skrze ně přisahejte, aniž jim služte, ani se jim klanějte. 8 Ale přídržte se Hospodina Boha svého, jakož jste činili až do tohoto dne. 9 I budeť, že jakož jest vyhnal Hospodin od tváři vaší národy veliké a silné, aniž ostál kdo před oblíčejem vaším až do tohoto dne: 10 Tak jeden z vás honiti bude tisíc, nebo Hospodin Bůh váš onť bojuje za vás, jakož mluvil vám. 11 Toho tedy nejpilnější buďte, abyste milovali Hospodina Boha svého. 12 Nebo jestliže předce se odvrátíte, a připojíte se k těm pozůstalým národům, k těm, kteříž zůstávají mezi vámi, a vejdete s nimi v příbuzenství a smísíte se s nimi a oni s vámi: 13 Tedy jistotně vězte, že Hospodin Bůh váš nebude více vyháněti všech národů těch od tváři vaší, ale budou vám osídlem a úrazem i bičem na bocích vašich, a trním v očích vašich, dokudž nezahynete z země této výborné, kterouž vám dal Hospodin Bůh váš. 14 A hle, já nyní odcházím podlé způsobu všech lidí, poznejtež tedy vším srdcem svým a celou duší svou, že nepochybilo ani jedno slovo ze všech slov nejlepších, kteráž mluvil Hospodin Bůh váš o vás; všecko se naplnilo vám, ani jediné slovo z nich nepominulo. 15 Jakož tedy naplnilo se vám dnes každé slovo dobré, kteréž mluvil k vám Hospodin Bůh váš, takť uvede na vás každé slovo zlé, dokudž nevyhladí vás z země této výborné, kterouž dal vám Hospodin Bůh váš, 16 Jestliže přestoupíte smlouvu Hospodina Boha svého, kterouž přikázal vám, a jdouce, sloužiti budete bohům cizím, a klaněti se jim. I rozhěvá se prchlivost Hospodinova na vás, a zahynete rychle z země této výborné, kterouž vám dal.

— Jozuovy výstrahy a napomenutí - Izrael se nesmí směšovat s pohany. Hospodin žádá celé srdce svého lidu.

1 Po mnoha dnech, když Hospodin dal Izraeli odpočinout od všech okolních nepřátel, Jozue, stařec pokročilého věku, 2 svolal celý Izrael, jeho starší a představitele, soudce a správce, a řekl jim: „Jsem stařec pokročilého věku. 3 Sami jste viděli všechno, co učinil Hospodin, váš Bůh, všem těm pronárodům před vašima očima; neboť Hospodin, váš Bůh, bojoval za vás. 4 Pohleďte, přidělil jsem vám tyto zbylé pronárody do dědictví pro vaše kmeny, od Jordánu, se všemi pronárody, které jsem vyhladil, až k Velkému moři, kde slunce zapadá. 5 Hospodin, váš Bůh, je zapudí od vaší tváře a vyžene je před vámi; a vy obsadíte jejich zemi, jak vám přislíbil Hospodin, váš Bůh. 6 A tak buďte zcela rozhodní a zachovávejte a čiňte všechno, co je napsáno v Knize Mojžíšova zákona, abyste se od něho neuchýlili napravo ani nalevo. 7 Nesmíte se mísit s těmito pronárody, jejichž zbytky jsou mezi vámi. Jména jejich bohů nepřipomínejte ani skrze ně nepřísahejte; neslužte jim a neklaňte se jim, 8 ale přimkněte se k Hospodinu, svému Bohu, jak jste činili dodnes. 9 Neboť Hospodin před vámi vyhnal velké a mocné pronárody; nikdo před vámi až dodnes neobstál. 10 Jediný z vás bude schopen pronásledovat tisíc mužů, protože Hospodin, váš Bůh, bojuje za vás, jak vám přislíbil. 11 Sami u sebe dbejte úzkostlivě o to, abyste milovali Hospodina, svého Boha. 12 Jestliže však přece odpadnete a přimknete se ke zbytku těch pronárodů, které ještě zbyly mezi vámi, a jestliže se s nimi spřízníte sňatkem a budete se mísit s nimi a oni s vámi, 13 tedy jistotně vězte, že Hospodin, váš Bůh, už před vámi ty pronárody nevyžene. Stanou se vám osidlem a léčkou, karabáčem na vašich bocích a trny v očích, dokud nevymizíte z této dobré země, kterou vám dal Hospodin, váš Bůh. 14 Hle, já nyní odcházím cestou všeho pozemského. Uznejte tedy celým srdcem a celou duší, že nezapadlo ani jedno ze všech dobrých slov, která o vás mluvil Hospodin, váš Bůh. Všechno se vám uskutečnilo, nezapadlo z toho jediné slovo. 15 A tak se i stane, že jako se na vás uskutečnilo všechno dobro, o němž k vám mluvil Hospodin, váš Bůh, tak na vás Hospodin uvede všechno zlo a vyhladí vás z této dobré země, kterou vám Hospodin, váš Bůh, dal. 16 Jestliže přestoupíte smlouvu Hospodina, svého Boha, kterou vám přikázal, a půjdete sloužit jiným bohům a klanět se jim, vzplane proti vám Hospodinův hněv a rychle vymizíte z této dobré země, kterou vám dal.“

1 Hospodin už dlouho dopřával Izraeli odpočinek ode všech okolních nepřátel. Jozue, stařec pokročilého věku, 2 svolal celý Izrael s jeho stařešiny, náčelníky, soudci i správci a řekl jim: „Jsem už stařec pokročilého věku. 3 Sami jste viděli, co všechno Hospodin, váš Bůh, provedl se všemi těmi národy před vámi. Sám Hospodin, váš Bůh, bojoval za vás. 4 Hle, rozdělil jsem vašim kmenům do dědictví území zbývajících národů i všechna území národů, které jsem vyhladil – od Jordánu až ke Středozemnímu moři, kde zapadá slunce. 5 Sám Hospodin, váš Bůh, je před vámi zažene a vypudí a vy obsadíte jejich zem, jak vám to řekl Hospodin, váš Bůh.^[1] 6 Buďte velmi silní, abyste pečlivě dodržovali vše, co je psáno v knize Mojžíšova zákona. Neuchylujte se od něj napravo ani nalevo. 7 Rozhodně se nesměšujte s národy, které tu s vámi ještě zůstávají. Jména jejich bohů nepřipomínejte ani při nich nepřísahejte, neslužte jim ani se jim neklanějte. 8 Přimkněte se k Hospodinu, svému Bohu, jak jste to dělali až dodnes. 9 Hospodin před vámi vyhnal veliké a mocné národy; až dodnes před vámi nikdo neobstál. 10 Jediný z vás jich zažene tisíc – vždyť za vás bojuje Hospodin, jak vám zaslíbil! 11 Pečlivě dbejte, abyste milovali Hospodina, vašeho Boha. 12 Pokud se ale odvrátíte a připojíte se ke zbytku národů, které zůstávají mezi vámi, a budete se s nimi příznit, mísit se s nimi a oni s vámi, 13 potom vězte, že Hospodin, váš Bůh, tehdy před vámi přestane ony národy vyhánět. Stanou se vám léčkou a pastí, bičem na vašich bocích a trním v očích, dokud nevymřete z této krásné země, kterou vám Hospodin, váš Bůh, dal. 14 Hle, já dnes odcházím, tak jako všichni lidé. Vězte tedy celým srdcem i duší, že ze všech těch dobrých slov, která vám řekl Hospodin, váš Bůh, ani jediné neselhalo. Všechna se vám splnila – neselhalo ani jediné z těch slov. 15 Ale tak jako se vám splnilo každé dobré slovo, které vám řekl Hospodin, váš Bůh, právě tak na vás Hospodin přivede každé zlé slovo, dokud vás nevyhubí z této krásné země, kterou vám Hospodin, váš Bůh, dal. 16 Jestliže budete porušovat smlouvu, kterou vám vydal Hospodin, váš Bůh, a půjdete sloužit cizím bohům a klanět se jim, vzplane proti vám Hospodinův hněv, takže z této krásné země, kterou vám dal, rychle vymřete.“

1 Lange Zeit später, nachdem der HERR Israel Ruhe vor all seinen Feinden ringsum verschafft hatte und Josua alt und betagt geworden war, 2 rief Josua ganz Israel, seine Ältesten und Häupter, seine Richter und Listenführer zusammen und sagte zu ihnen: Ich bin nun alt und betagt. 3 Ihr habt selbst alles gesehen, was der HERR, euer Gott, mit all diesen Völkern vor euren Augen gemacht hat; denn der HERR, euer Gott, hat selbst für euch gekämpft. 4 Seht, ich habe euch diese Völker, die noch übrig geblieben sind, als Erbbesitz für eure Stämme zugeteilt vom Jordan an und alle Völker, die ich vernichtet habe, am großen Meer gegen Sonnenuntergang. 5 Der HERR, euer Gott, wird sie vor euch verjagen und sie vor euch vertreiben und ihr werdet ihr Land in Besitz nehmen, wie es euch der HERR, euer Gott, versprochen hat. 6 Seid sehr standhaft, alles zu bewahren und zu tun, was im Buch der Weisung des Mose geschrieben steht; ohne nach rechts oder links abzuweichen 7 und ohne aufzugehen in diesen Völkern, die bei euch noch übrig geblieben sind; den Namen ihrer Götter werdet ihr nicht nennen und bei ihnen nicht schwören, ihr werdet ihnen nicht dienen und euch nicht vor ihnen niederwerfen. 8 Vielmehr werdet ihr am HERRN, eurem Gott, festhalten, wie ihr es bis heute getan habt. 9 Der HERR hat vor euren Augen große und mächtige Völker vertrieben; bis heute konnte niemand euch standhalten. 10 Ein Einziger von euch kann tausend verfolgen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, kämpft selbst für euch, wie er es euch versprochen hat. 11 Achtet darum um eures Lebens willen sehr darauf, dass ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, liebt! 12 Denn wenn ihr euch wirklich von ihm abwendet und euch diesen Völkern, die bei euch noch übrig geblieben sind, anschließt, wenn ihr euch mit ihnen verschwägert, wenn ihr in ihnen aufgeht und sie in euch, 13 dann könnt ihr gewiss sein, dass der HERR, euer Gott, diese Völker nicht mehr vor euren Augen vertreiben wird. Sie werden zur Schlinge und zur Falle für euch, zur Peitsche für euren Rücken und zum Stachel in euren Augen, bis ihr aus diesem schönen Land verschwindet, das der HERR, euer Gott, euch gegeben hat. Ihr aber sollt mit ganzem Herzen und ganzer Seele erkennen, dass von all den Zusagen, die der HERR, euer Gott, euch gegeben hat, keine einzige ausgeblieben ist; alle sind sie für euch eingetroffen, keine einzige von ihnen ist ausgeblieben. 15 Wie aber bisher jede Zusage, die der HERR, euer Gott, euch gegeben hat, eingetroffen ist, so wird der HERR, euer Gott, künftig jede Drohung gegen euch verwirklichen, bis er euch aus diesem schönen Land hinweggerafft hat, das euch der HERR, euer Gott, gegeben hat. 16 Wenn ihr euch gegen den Bund, auf den der HERR, euer Gott, euch verpflichtet hat, vergeht, wenn ihr hingeht und anderen Göttern dient und sie anbetet, dann wird der Zorn des HERRN gegen euch entbrennen und ihr werdet rasch aus dem schönen Land verschwinden, das er euch gegeben hat.

Joshua’s Charge to Israel’s Leaders

1 A long time afterward, when the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, (Jz 11,23; Jz 13,1) 2 Joshua summoned all Israel, its elders and heads, its judges and officers, and said to them, “I am now old and well advanced in years. (Dt 31,28; Jz 24,1; 1Pa 28,1) 3 And you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you. (Ex 14,14; Jz 10,14; Jz 10,42) 4 Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, along with all the nations that I have already cut off, from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west.
