Více nevím, abych koho jiného křtil.17Nebo neposlal mne Kristus křtíti, ale evangelium kázati, ne v moudrosti řeči, aby nebyl vyprázdněn kříž Kristův.18Nebo slovo kříže těm, kteříž hynou, bláznovstvím jest, ale nám, kteříž spasení dosahujeme, moc Boží jest.19Nebo psáno jest: Zahladím moudrost moudrých, a opatrnost opatrných zavrhu.20Kde jest moudrý? A kde učený? A kde chytrák tohoto světa? 10 Prosím vás, bratří, pro jméno našeho Pána Ježíše Krista, abyste všichni byli svorni a neměli mezi sebou roztržky, nýbrž abyste dosáhli plné jednoty smýšlení i přesvědčení.11 Dověděl jsem se totiž o vás z domu Chloé, bratří, že jsou mezi vámi spory.12 Myslím tím to, že se mezi vámi říká: Já se hlásím k Pavlovi, já zase k Apollovi, já k Petrovi, já ke Kristu.13 Je snad Kristus rozdělen? Což byl Pavel za vás ukřižován? Nebo jste byli pokřtěni ve jméno Pavlovo?14 Děkuji Bohu, že jsem nikoho z vás nepokřtil kromě Krispa a Gaia;15 tak nemůže nikdo říci, že jste byli pokřtěni v moje jméno.16 Pokřtil jsem i rodinu Štěpánovu. Jinak už nevím, že bych byl ještě někoho pokřtil.17 Kristus mě totiž neposlal křtít, ale zvěstovat evangelium, ovšem ne moudrostí slov, aby Kristův kříž nepozbyl smyslu.
— Boží moudrost je lidem bláznovstvím
18 Slovo o kříži je bláznovstvím těm, kdo jsou na cestě k záhubě; nám, kteří jdeme ke spáse, je mocí Boží.19 Je psáno: ‚Zahubím moudrost moudrých a rozumnost rozumných zavrhnu.‘20 Kde jsou učenci, kde znalci, kde řečníci tohoto věku? Neučinil Bůh moudrost světa bláznovstvím?21 Protože svět svou moudrostí nepoznal Boha v jeho moudrém díle, zalíbilo se Bohu spasit ty, kdo věří, bláznovskou zvěstí.22 Židé žádají zázračná znamení, Řekové vyhledávají moudrost,23 ale my kážeme Krista ukřižovaného. Pro Židy je to kámen úrazu, pro ostatní bláznovství,24 ale pro povolané, jak pro Židy, tak pro Řeky, je Kristus Boží moc a Boží moudrost.25 Neboť bláznovství Boží je moudřejší než lidé a slabost Boží je silnější než lidé. 26 Pohleďte, bratří, koho si Bůh povolává: Není mezi vámi mnoho moudrých podle lidského soudu, ani mnoho mocných, ani mnoho urozených;27 ale co je světu bláznovstvím, to vyvolil Bůh, aby zahanbil moudré, a co je slabé, vyvolil Bůh, aby zahanbil silné;28 neurozené v očích světa a opovržené Bůh vyvolil, ano, vyvolil to, co není, aby to, co jest, obrátil v nic –29 aby se tak žádný člověk nemohl vychloubat před Bohem.30 Vy však jste z Boží moci v Kristu Ježíši; on se nám stal moudrostí od Boha, spravedlností, posvěcením a vykoupením,31 jak je psáno: ‚Kdo se chlubí, ať se chlubí v Pánu.‘

Je Kristus rozdělen?
4Stále za vás děkuji svému Bohu, totiž za to, jaké Boží milosti se vám dostalo v Kristu Ježíši:5byli jste v něm obohaceni v každém ohledu, každým slovem a veškerým poznáním.6Kristovo svědectví je mezi vámi tak pevně ustaveno,7že nemáte nedostatek v žádném daru, zatímco očekáváte zjevení našeho Pána Ježíše Krista.8Ten vás bude posilovat až do konce, aby vám v den našeho Pána Ježíše Krista nebylo co vytknout.9Bůh je věrný. Bláznivé kázání
18Ano, pro ty, kdo spějí k záhubě, je poselství kříže bláznovstvím, ale pro nás, kdo docházíme spásy, je to Boží moc.19Je přece psáno: „Zahubím moudrost moudrých, zavrhnu rozum rozumných.“[2]20Kde zůstal mudrc? Kde je učenec? Kde zůstal světový myslitel? Copak Bůh neobrátil moudrost světa v bláznovství?21Bůh se ve své moudrosti nedal světu poznat jejich vlastní moudrostí. Namísto toho se Bohu zalíbilo, že spasí ty, kdo uvěří tomuto bláznivému kázání.22Židé požadují zázračná znamení, Řekové hledají moudrost,23ale my kážeme Krista ukřižovaného – pro Židy pohoršení, pro pohany bláznovství,24ale pro povolané, ať Židy či Řeky, Krista – Boží moc a Boží moudrost.25Boží bláznovství je totiž moudřejší než lidé a Boží slabost je silnější než lidé.26Podívejte se, bratři, jak vás Bůh povolal: podle lidských měřítek mezi vámi není mnoho moudrých, mocných nebo urozených.27Bůh ale vyvolil bláznivé tohoto světa, aby zahanbil moudré. Hat Gott nicht die Weisheit der Welt als Torheit entlarvt?
