Die Schauung von den vier Tieren

1 Im Jahr eins des Belschazzar, des Königs von Babel, hatte Daniel einen Traum, und auf seinem Lager hatte er in seinem Kopf Schauungen. Da schrieb er den Traum auf; was wichtig war, erwähnte er^[1]: (Dan 2,1; Dan 4,2) 2 Daniel hob an und sprach: Ich schaute in meiner nächtlichen Schauung, und sieh: Die vier Winde des Himmels wühlten das grosse Meer auf, 3 und vier grosse Tiere stiegen herauf aus dem Meer, jedes anders als das andere. (Dan 2,32; Dan 7,17; Offb 12,18) 4 Das erste war einem Löwen gleich, und es hatte Adlerflügel. Ich schaute, da wurden ihm die Flügel ausgerissen und es wurde von der Erde hochgehoben und wie ein Mensch auf zwei Füsse gestellt, und es wurde ihm der Verstand eines Menschen gegeben. (Dan 2,32) 5 Und sieh, ein anderes Tier, ein zweites, es glich einem Bären, und es war auf einer Seite aufgerichtet, und in seinem Maul hatte es drei Rippen zwischen seinen Zähnen, und so redete man zu ihm: Auf, friss viel Fleisch! 6 Danach schaute ich, und sieh, ein anderes, einem Panther gleich, und an seinen Seiten hatte es vier Vogelflügel, und vier Köpfe hat das Tier, und ihm wurde Macht gegeben. (Dan 2,32; Dan 5,8; Dan 5,28) 7 Danach schaute ich in den nächtlichen Schauungen, und sieh: Ein viertes Tier, Furcht einflössend und schrecklich und aussergewöhnlich stark. Und es hatte grosse Zähne aus Eisen, es frass und zermalmte, und was übrig blieb, zertrat es mit seinen Füssen. Und es war anders als all die Tiere vor ihm, und es hatte zehn Hörner. 8 Ich achtete auf die Hörner, und sieh, ein anderes Horn, ein kleines, wuchs zwischen ihnen, und drei von den ersten Hörnern wurden vor ihm ausgerissen. Und sieh, an diesem Horn waren Augen, den Augen eines Menschen gleich, und ein Mund, der grossmäulig redete. (Dan 7,9; Dan 11,21; Dan 11,36; Offb 13,5)

9 Ich schaute: Da wurden Throne aufgestellt, und ein Hochbetagter setzte sich. Sein Gewand war weiss wie Schnee und das Haar auf seinem Kopf wie reine Wolle, sein Thron Feuerflammen, die Räder daran waren loderndes Feuer. (Hes 1,26; Offb 1,14; Offb 10,5) 10 Ein Feuerstrom ergoss sich und brach vor ihm hervor. Tausendmal Tausende dienten ihm, und Unzählige erhoben sich vor ihm. Das Gericht setzte sich, und Bücher wurden aufgeschlagen. (Dan 10,21; Dan 12,1; Offb 20,12) 11 Da schaute ich wegen des Lärms der grossmäuligen Worte, die das Horn redete. Ich schaute: Da wurde das Tier getötet, und sein Körper wurde vernichtet, und es wurde dem lodernden Feuer übergeben. 12 Und den übrigen Tieren wurde ihre Macht genommen, und auf Frist und Zeit wurde ihnen Lebensdauer gegeben. (Dan 2,21) 13 Ich schaute in den nächtlichen Schauungen, und sieh: Mit den Wolken des Himmels kam einer, der einem Menschen^[2] glich, und er kam vor den Hochbetagten, und vor diesen führte man ihn. 14 Und ihm wurde Macht gegeben und Ehre und Königsherrschaft, und alle Völker, Nationen und Sprachen dienen ihm. Seine Macht ist eine ewige Macht, die nie vergeht, und seine Königsherrschaft wird nicht untergehen. 15 Mir, Daniel, wurde mein Geist im Innern betrübt, und die Schauungen in meinem Kopf erschreckten mich. (Dan 4,16) 16 Ich trat zu einem von denen, die dastanden, und erbat von ihm verlässliche Auskunft über all dies. Und er sprach zu mir und liess mich die Bedeutung der Dinge wissen: 17 Diese grossen Tiere, jene vier: Vier Könige werden sich über die Erde erheben, 18 und die Heiligen des Allerhöchsten werden die Königsherrschaft empfangen, und für immer und alle Zeiten werden sie die Königsherrschaft besitzen. (Dan 2,44; Dan 8,24; Offb 22,5) 19 Dann wollte ich Genaueres wissen über das vierte Tier, das anders war als all die anderen, überaus Furcht einflössend - seine Zähne waren aus Eisen und seine Krallen aus Bronze -, das frass, zermalmte und mit seinen Füssen zerstampfte, was übrig bleibt, 20 und über die zehn Hörner auf seinem Kopf und über das andere, das wuchs und vor dem drei ausfielen, jenes Horn, das Augen hatte und einen Mund, der grossmäulig redete, und dessen Erscheinung grösser war als die der anderen. 21 Ich schaute, und jenes Horn führte Krieg gegen die Heiligen, und es besiegte sie, (Dan 8,9; Dan 9,26; Dan 11,28; Dan 12,7; Offb 13,7)

22 bis der Hochbetagte kam und das Gericht den Heiligen des Allerhöchsten gegeben wurde und die Zeit da war und die Heiligen die Königsherrschaft in Besitz nahmen. (Offb 20,4) 23 Er sprach so: Das vierte Tier: Ein viertes Königreich wird auf Erden sein, das anders ist als alle anderen Königreiche, und es wird die ganze Erde fressen und sie zerstampfen und zermalmen. 24 Und die zehn Hörner: Aus dem Königreich werden sich zehn Könige erheben, und nach ihnen wird sich ein anderer erheben, und er wird anders sein als die früheren, und er wird drei Könige stürzen. (Dan 8,23) 25 Und gegen den Höchsten wird er Reden führen und die Heiligen des Allerhöchsten wird er aufreiben, und er wird danach trachten, Zeiten^[3] und Gesetz zu ändern; und sie werden in seine Hand gegeben werden für eine Zeit und für Zeiten und eine halbe Zeit. 26 Und das Gericht wird sich setzen, und man wird ihm seine Macht nehmen, um ihn endgültig zu vertilgen und zu vernichten. (Dan 11,45) 27 Dem Volk der Heiligen des Allerhöchsten aber wird das Königreich und die Macht und die Grösse der Königreiche unter dem ganzen Himmel gegeben werden. Seine Königsherrschaft ist eine ewige Königsherrschaft, und alle Mächte dienen ihm und sind ihm gehorsam. (Dan 4,14) 28 Hier endet der Bericht. Mich, Daniel, erschreckten meine Gedanken sehr, und ich erbleichte, und ich bewahrte die Sache in meinem Herzen. (Dan 4,16)

Das Gesicht von den vier Tieren und dem Menschensohn

3 und vier große Tiere stiegen aus dem Meer empor, jedes verschieden vom anderen: (Offb 13,1) 4 Das erste glich einem Löwen und hatte Adlerflügel. Ich schaute, bis ihm die Flügel ausgerissen wurden und es von der Erde aufgerichtet und wie ein Mensch aufrecht auf seine Füße gestellt wurde und wie ihm ein menschliches Herz gegeben wurde. 7 Nach diesem sah ich in den Nachtgesichten und siehe, ein viertes Tier, furchterregend, schrecklich und außerordentlich stark; es hatte große eiserne Zähne, fraß und zermalmte und zertrat das Übrige mit den Füßen; es war ganz anders als alle vorherigen Tiere und hatte zehn Hörner. 8 Während ich achtgab auf die Hörner, siehe, da stieg ein anderes, kleines Horn zwischen denselben auf, und drei der vorherigen Hörner wurden vor ihm ausgerissen; und siehe, dieses Horn hatte Augen wie Menschenaugen und ein Maul, das große Dinge redete. (Dan 7,25; Dan 8,9; Dan 11,35; Offb 13,5)

10 Ein Feuerstrom ergoss sich und ging von ihm aus. Tausendmal Tausende dienten ihm, und zehntausendmal Zehntausende standen vor ihm; das Gericht setzte sich, und die Bücher wurden geöffnet. (1Kön 22,19; Ps 68,18; Ps 97,3; Jes 66,15; 2Thess 1,7; Hebr 12,22; Offb 5,11; Offb 20,12)

11 Ich sah fortwährend hin wegen des Lärms der hochfahrenden Reden, die das Horn führte; ich sah zu, bis das Tier getötet und sein Leib umgebracht und einem brennenden Feuer ausgeliefert wurde. (Offb 19,20) 12 Auch den übrigen Tieren wurde die Herrschaft weggenommen; und ihre Lebensdauer wurde ihnen auf Zeit und Stunde bestimmt. Die Deutung des Gesichtes von den vier Tieren

15 Ich, Daniel, wurde deshalb in meinem Geist zutiefst beunruhigt, und die Gesichte meines Hauptes ängstigten mich. (Dan 7,28; Dan 8,27; Hab 3,16) 16 Ich näherte mich einem der Umstehenden und erbat von ihm sichere Auskunft über das alles. Der redete mit mir und verkündete mir die Bedeutung der Dinge: (Dan 8,13; Sach 1,8; Offb 5,5; Offb 7,13)

19 Hierauf wünschte ich sichere Auskunft über das vierte Tier, das sich von allen anderen unterschied, das so furchterregend war und eiserne Zähne und eherne Klauen hatte, das fraß und zermalmte und das Übrige mit seinen Füßen zertrat; (Dan 2,40; Dan 7,7) 20 auch über die zehn Hörner auf seinem Kopf und über das andere Horn, das emporstieg und vor dem drei ausfielen; nämlich jenes Horn, welches Augen hatte und ein Maul, das große Dinge redete, und das so viel größer aussah als seine Gefährten. 23 Er sprach: »Das vierte Tier bedeutet ein viertes Reich, das auf Erden sein wird; das wird sich von allen anderen Königreichen unterscheiden, und es wird die ganze Erde fressen, zerstampfen und zermalmen. The Ancient of Days Reigns

9 “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. 11 “I looked then because of the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. And as I looked, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. 15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me^[2] was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me. (Dan 7,1) 16 I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things. 17 ‘These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth. Daniel has a dream about four animals

1 It was the first year that Belshazzar was king of Babylon. Daniel had a dream. He was lying in bed. In his dream, visions passed through his mind. He wrote down what he saw. 2 Daniel said, ‘I had a vision at night. I looked up and saw the four winds of heaven. They were stirring up the Mediterranean Sea. 3 Four large animals came up out of the sea. Each one was different from the others. 4 ‘The first animal was like a lion. It had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off. Then it was lifted up from the ground. It stood on two feet like a human being. And the mind of a human being was given to it. 5 ‘I saw a second animal. It looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides. And it had three ribs between its teeth. It was told, “Get up! Eat meat until you are full!” 6 ‘After that, I saw another animal. It looked like a leopard. On its back were four wings like the wings of a bird. The animal I saw had four heads. And it was given authority to rule. 7 ‘After that, in my vision I looked up and saw a fourth animal. It was terrifying and very powerful. It had large iron teeth. It crushed those it attacked and ate them up. It trampled on anything that was left. It was different from the other animals. And it had ten horns. 8 ‘I thought about the horns. Then I saw another horn. It was a little one. It grew up among the other horns. Three of the first horns were pulled up by their roots to make room for it. The little horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being. Its mouth was always boasting. 9 ‘As I watched, ‘thrones were set in place. The Eternal God took his seat. His clothes were as white as snow. The hair on his head was white like wool. His throne was blazing with fire. And flames were all around its wheels. 10 A river of fire was flowing. It was coming out from in front of God. Thousands and thousands of angels served him. Millions of them stood in front of him. The court was seated. And the books were opened. 11 ‘Then I continued to watch because of the way the horn was boasting. I kept looking until the fourth animal was killed. I watched until its body was destroyed. It was thrown into the blazing fire. 12 The authority of the other animals had been stripped away from them. But they were allowed to live for a period of time. 13 ‘In my vision I saw one who looked like a son of man. He was coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Eternal God. He was led right up to him. 14 And he was given authority, glory and a kingdom. People of all nations, no matter what language they spoke, worshipped him. His authority will last for ever. It will not pass away. His kingdom will never be destroyed.

An angel tells Daniel what his dream means

15 ‘My spirit was troubled. The visions that passed through my mind upset me. 16 I approached an angel who was standing there. I asked him what all these things really meant. ‘So he explained to me what everything meant. 17 He said, “The four large animals stand for four kings. The kings will appear on the earth. 18 But the holy people of the Most High God will receive the kingdom. They will possess it for ever. It will belong to them for ever and ever.” 19 ‘Then I wanted to know what the fourth animal stood for. It was different from the others. It was the most terrifying of all. It had iron teeth and bronze claws. It crushed everyone it attacked and ate them up. It trampled on anything that was left. 20 I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head. And I wanted to know about the other horn that grew up later. It caused three of the ten horns to fall out. It appeared to be stronger than the others. It had eyes. And its mouth was always boasting. 21 I saw that the horn was at war with God’s holy people. It was winning the battle over them. 22 But then the Eternal God came. He decided in favour of his holy people. So the time came when the kingdom was given to them. 23 ‘Here’s how the angel explained it to me. He said, “The fourth animal stands for a fourth kingdom. It will appear on earth. It will be different from the other kingdoms. It will eat up the whole earth. It will trample on it and crush it. 24 The ten horns stand for ten kings. They will come from the fourth kingdom. After them another king will appear. He will be different from the earlier ones. He’ll bring three kings under his control. 25 He’ll speak against the Most High God. He’ll treat God’s holy people badly. He will try to change the times and laws that were given by God. God’s holy people will be placed under his power for three and a half years. 26 ‘ “But the court will be seated. And the power of that king will be taken away from him. It will be completely destroyed for ever. 27 Then the authority, power and greatness of all the kingdoms on earth will be taken from them. And all they had will be given to the holy people of the Most High God. His kingdom will last for ever. Every ruler will worship and obey him.” 28 ‘That’s all I saw. My thoughts deeply troubled me. My face turned pale. But I kept those things to myself.’

Daniel’s dream of four beasts

The interpretation of the dream

15 ‘I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me. 16 I approached one of those standing there and asked him the meaning of all this. ‘So he told me and gave me the interpretation of these things: 17 “The four great beasts are four kings that will rise from the earth. 18 But the holy people of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it for ever – yes, for ever and ever.” 19 ‘Then I wanted to know the meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others and most terrifying, with its iron teeth and bronze claws – the beast that crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. 20 I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell – the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully. 21 As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favour of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom. 23 ‘He gave me this explanation: “The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. 25 He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws.
