1Hört doch, was der HERR spricht: Mache dich auf, führe den Rechtsstreit angesichts der Berge, und lass die Hügel deine Stimme hören! (Hes 36,1; Hes 36,4; Mi 1,2; Mi 5,14)2Hört doch, ihr Berge, den Rechtsstreit des HERRN und [achtet darauf,] ihr unwandelbaren Grundfesten der Erde! Denn der HERR hat einen Rechtsstreit mit seinem Volk, und mit Israel will er sich auseinandersetzen. (Jes 5,3; Hos 4,1)3Mein Volk, was habe ich dir angetan, und womit habe ich dich beleidigt? Lege Zeugnis ab gegen mich! (Ps 50,7; Jes 43,23; Jer 2,5; Jer 2,31)4Habe ich dich doch aus dem Land Ägypten heraufgeführt und dich aus dem Haus der Knechtschaft erlöst und Mose, Aaron und Mirjam vor dir her gesandt! (2Mo 6,26; 5Mo 5,6)5Mein Volk, bedenke doch, was Balak, der König von Moab, vorhatte, und was Bileam, der Sohn Beors, ihm antwortete, [und was geschah] von Sittim bis Gilgal, damit du die gerechten Taten des HERRN erkennst! (4Mo 25,1; Jos 5,9; Jos 24,10; 1Sam 12,7; Ps 77,12; Ps 103,2)6Womit soll ich vor den HERRN treten, mich beugen vor dem erhabenen Gott? Soll ich mit Brandopfern, mit einjährigen Kälbern vor ihn treten? (2Mo 23,15; Ps 50,13)7Hat der HERR Wohlgefallen an Tausenden von Widdern oder an unzähligen Strömen von Öl? Soll ich meinen Erstgeborenen geben für meine Übertretung, die Frucht meines Leibes für die Sünde meiner Seele? (2Kön 3,27; Ps 51,18; Jer 6,20)8Es ist dir gesagt, o Mensch, was gut ist und was der HERR von dir fordert: Was anders als Recht tun, Liebe üben und demütig wandeln mit deinem Gott? (5Mo 10,12; 1Sam 15,22; Spr 21,3; Jes 1,17; Jes 57,15; Jer 7,5; Hos 6,6; Mt 5,7; Röm 13,10; 2Thess 1,3; 1Petr 4,8; 1Petr 5,5)9Die Stimme des HERRN ruft der Stadt zu, und Weisheit ist es, auf deinen Namen zu achten. Hört auf die Zuchtrute und auf den, der sie bestellt hat! (Spr 1,7; Spr 21,30; Jer 5,3; 1Kor 2,6; Hebr 12,4; Offb 3,19)10Ist immer noch unrechtes Gut im Haus des Gottlosen und das verfluchte, schwindsüchtige Epha? (Spr 20,10; Jer 5,27; Am 3,10)11Kann ich rein sein bei unrechter Waage und wenn falsche Gewichtsteine im Beutel sind? (Spr 16,11; Hos 12,8; Am 8,5)12Weil denn ihre Reichen so gewalttätig sind und ihre Einwohner Lügen reden und falsche Zungen in ihrem Mund haben, (Jer 9,3; Mi 2,1)13so will auch ich dich krank schlagen, dich verwüsten um deiner Sünden willen: (Jes 24,4; Hos 5,9)14Du wirst essen und doch nicht satt werden, sondern dein Hunger bleibt in deinem Innern. Schaffst du etwas beiseite, so kannst du es doch nicht retten, und was du rettest, will ich dem Schwert preisgeben. (5Mo 32,25; Hos 4,10)15Du wirst säen, aber nicht ernten; du wirst Oliven pressen, aber dich nicht mit Öl salben, Most keltern, aber keinen Wein trinken! (5Mo 28,33; 5Mo 28,38; Am 5,11)16Denn man befolgt eifrig die Satzungen Omris und handelt genauso wie das Haus Ahabs und wandelt nach ihrem Rat; deshalb werde ich dich zum Entsetzen machen und deine Bewohner zum Gespött; und ihr sollt die Schmach meines Volkes tragen. (1Kön 16,25; 1Kön 16,30; Ps 79,4; Jer 19,8; Kla 2,15; Eph 4,17)
1Hört, was der HERR fordert: »Nur zu! Klagt mich doch an und lasst die Berge und Hügel Zeugen unseres Rechtsstreites sein.2Und nun, ihr Berge und ihr Grundfesten der Erde, hört die Anklage des HERRN! Der HERR geht mit Israel ins Gericht und will sich mit Israel auseinandersetzen. (Hos 4,1; Hos 12,2)3Mein Volk, was habe ich dir zuleide getan, und womit habe ich dich gekränkt? Antworte mir! (Jer 2,5)4Denn ich habe dich aus Ägypten geführt und aus der Sklaverei befreit. Ich habe dir Mose, Aaron und Mirjam als Führer gegeben.[1] (2Mo 20,1; Ps 77,21)5Mein Volk, denke doch an das Unheil, das Balak, der Moabiterkönig, plante, und an das, was Bileam, der Sohn Beors, ihm darauf antwortete. Und erinnere dich daran, wie du den Jordan überquertest, als du von Schittim nach Gilgal gezogen bist,[2] damit du erkennst, was ich dir Gutes getan habe.« (4Mo 22,5; 4Mo 25,1; Jos 5,9)6»Wie kann ich wieder mit dem HERRN ins Reine kommen, wie kann ich mich vor dem erhabenen Gott beugen? Soll ich ihm ein Brandopfer von einjährigen Kälbern darbringen? (Ps 40,7; Ps 51,18)7Hat der HERR Gefallen daran, wenn ich ihm 1000 Widder darbringe oder unermessliche Ströme von Öl? Oder soll ich ihm meinen erstgeborenen Sohn opfern, um mein Unrecht zu sühnen, meine Kinder als Opfer darbringen, um die Schuld meines Lebens[3] wieder gutzumachen?« (3Mo 18,21; 3Mo 20,1; Ps 50,9; Jes 40,16)8Es wurde dir, Mensch, doch schon längst gesagt, was gut ist und wie Gott möchte, dass du leben sollst. Er fordert von euch nichts anderes, als dass ihr euch an das Recht haltet, liebevoll und barmherzig miteinander umgeht und demütig vor Gott euer Leben führt. (5Mo 10,12; Jes 57,15)
Israels Schuld und Strafe
9Es ruft der HERR der Stadt Jerusalem zu – und klug ist es, deinen Namen zu fürchten –:[4] »Begreift doch, dass euch Strafe bevorsteht und achtet darauf, wer sie über euch verhängt hat!10Sammelt der Gottlose immer noch unrecht erworbenes Gut in seinem Haus und misst er weiterhin mit dem verfluchten falschen Getreidemaß[5]? (Jer 5,26; Am 3,10; Am 8,5)11Soll ich seinen Betrug mit der falschen Waage und den falschen Gewichten hinnehmen?12Die Reichen in der Stadt verfolgen gnadenlos und brutal ihre eigenen Interessen, und alle Bewohner Jerusalems lügen und betrügen. (Jes 3,8)13Deshalb werde ich euch mit Krankheit schlagen. Um eurer Sünden willen werde ich euch vernichten. (Jes 1,7; Jes 6,11)14Du wirst essen und nicht satt werden – dein Hunger soll ungestillt bleiben. Was du dir beiseiteschaffst, wirst du doch nicht retten können. Und was du gerettet hast, wirst du im Krieg wieder verlieren. (3Mo 26,26; Jes 9,19; Jes 30,6)15Du wirst säen, aber die Ernte nicht einbringen, und Oliven pressen, aber dich mit dem Öl nicht salben können. Und du wirst Trauben keltern, aber den Wein nicht genießen. (5Mo 28,38; Jer 12,13; Am 5,11; Zef 1,13)16Denn du lebst immer noch nach dem Vorbild der Könige Omri[6] und Ahab[7]. Ihr habt euer ganzes Leben nach ihren Ratschlägen ausgerichtet. Deshalb mache ich dich zum abschreckenden Beispiel und deine Bewohner zur Zielscheibe des Spottes. Ihr werdet den Hohn der Völker ertragen müssen!« (1Kön 16,25; Jer 7,24; Jer 18,15; Jer 25,9)

What Does the Lord Require?
6“With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? (Jes 57,15; Hos 5,6; Hebr 10,4)7Will the Lord be pleased with[1] thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” (3Mo 18,21; 1Sam 15,22; 2Kön 3,27; 2Kön 16,3; 2Kön 21,6; 2Kön 23,10)8He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,[2] and to walk humbly with your God? (1Mo 5,22; 5Mo 10,12)
Destruction of the Wicked
9The voice of the Lord cries to the city— and it is sound wisdom to fear your name: “Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it![3] (Jes 10,5; Jes 30,27; Jes 30,32)10Can I forget any longer the treasures[4] of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed?11Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights? (Hos 12,7)12Your[5] rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. (Jer 9,8; Hos 7,13; Am 3,10; Hab 1,2)13Therefore I strike you with a grievous blow, making you desolate because of your sins. (Mi 7,13)14You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be hunger within you; you shall put away, but not preserve, and what you preserve I will give to the sword. (Hos 4,10)15You shall sow, but not reap; you shall tread olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil; you shall tread grapes, but not drink wine. (Zef 1,13; Hag 1,6)16For you have kept the statutes of Omri,[6] and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation, and your[7] inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of my people.” (1Kön 16,25; 1Kön 16,30; 1Kön 21,25; 2Chr 29,8; Jes 25,8; Mi 1,13)
1Israel, listen to the LORD’s message. He says to me, ‘Stand up in court. Let the mountains serve as witnesses. Let the hills hear what you have to say.’2Hear the LORD’s case, you mountains. Listen, you age-old foundations of the earth. The LORD has a case against his people Israel. He is bringing charges against them.3The LORD says, ‘My people, what have I done to you? Have I made things too hard for you? Answer me.4I brought your people up out of Egypt. I set them free from the land where they were slaves. I sent Moses to lead them. Aaron and Miriam helped him.5Remember how Balak, the king of Moab, planned to put a curse on your people. But Balaam, the son of Beor, gave them a blessing instead. Remember their journey from Shittim to Gilgal. I want you to know that I always do what is right.’6The people of Israel say, ‘What should we bring with us when we go to worship the LORD? What should we offer the God of heaven when we bow down to him? Should we take burnt offerings to him? Should we sacrifice calves that are a year old?7Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams? Will he take delight in 10,000 rivers of olive oil? Should we offer our eldest sons for the wrong things we’ve done? Should we sacrifice our own children to pay for our sins?’8The LORD has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.
The Lord will punish his guilty people
9The LORD is calling out to Jerusalem. And it would be wise to pay attention to him. He says, ‘Listen, tribe of Judah and you people who are gathered in the city.10You sinful people, should I forget that you got your treasures by stealing them? You use dishonest measures to cheat others. I have placed a curse on that practice.11Should I forgive anyone who uses dishonest scales? They use weights that weigh things heavier or lighter than they really are.12The rich people among you harm others. You are always telling lies. You try to fool others by what you say.13So I have begun to strike you down. I have begun to destroy you because you have sinned so much.14You will eat. But you will not be satisfied. Your stomachs will still be empty. You will try to save what you can. But you will not be able to. If you do save something, it will be destroyed in battle.15You will plant seeds. But you will not harvest any crops. You will press olives. But you will not use the oil. You will crush grapes. But you will not drink the wine that is made from them.16You have followed the evil practices of King Omri of Israel. You have done what the family of King Ahab did. You have followed their bad example. So I will let you be destroyed. Others will make fun of you. The nations will laugh at you.’
