1Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Geh zum Pharao, denn ich habe sein Herz und das Herz seiner Knechte verstockt, damit ich diese meine Zeichen unter ihnen tue, (2Mo 9,34)2und damit du vor den Ohren deiner Kinder und Kindeskinder verkündigst, was ich in Ägypten gewirkt und wie ich meine Zeichen unter ihnen vollführt habe, damit ihr erkennt, dass ich der HERR bin. (2Mo 8,6; 2Mo 9,29; 5Mo 4,9; 5Mo 6,20; Ps 44,1; Ps 78,3; Ps 103,7; Joe 1,3)3So gingen Mose und Aaron zum Pharao und sprachen zu ihm: So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: Wie lange willst du dich noch weigern, dich vor mir zu demütigen? Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient! (Jes 1,5; Jer 13,18; Jak 4,10; 1Petr 5,6)4Wenn du dich aber [weiterhin] weigerst, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so lasse ich morgen Heuschrecken in dein Gebiet kommen. (Spr 30,27; Offb 9,3)5Und sie sollen die Fläche des Landes so bedecken, dass man die Erde nicht sehen kann, und sie sollen den Überrest auffressen, der gerettet worden und von dem Hagel übrig geblieben ist, und sie sollen alle eure grünenden Bäume auf dem Feld kahl fressen. (2Mo 9,32)6Und sie sollen dein Haus und die Häuser aller deiner Knechte und die Häuser aller Ägypter anfüllen, wie es deine Väter und Vorväter nie gesehen haben, seitdem sie im Land sind, bis zu diesem Tag! Und er wandte sich um und ging vom Pharao hinweg. (2Mo 7,28; Joe 2,2)7Da sprachen die Knechte des Pharao zu ihm: Wie lange soll uns dieser zum Fallstrick sein? Lass die Leute ziehen, damit sie dem HERRN, ihrem Gott, dienen; merkst du noch nicht, dass Ägypten zugrunde geht? (1Sam 5,11; 2Kön 6,22; Jes 8,14)8Da holte man Mose und Aaron wieder zum Pharao; der sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin, dient dem HERRN, eurem Gott! Wer aber soll denn hingehen? (2Mo 10,16; 2Mo 10,24; 2Mo 12,31)9Und Mose sprach: Wir wollen mit unseren Jungen und Alten, mit unseren Söhnen und Töchtern, mit unseren Schafen und Rindern ziehen; denn wir haben ein Fest des HERRN! (2Mo 5,1)10Da sprach er zu ihnen: Der HERR sei ebenso mit euch, wie ich euch samt euren Kindern ziehen lasse! Seht da, ihr habt Böses im Sinn! (1Mo 44,4; 4Mo 24,13; Ps 7,15; Röm 12,17)11Nicht so, sondern ihr Männer geht hin und dient dem HERRN; denn das habt ihr auch verlangt! Und man jagte sie weg vom Pharao. (Ps 52,3; Ps 119,69)12Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Strecke deine Hand aus über das Land Ägypten, damit die Heuschrecken über das Land Ägypten kommen und alles Gewächs im Land auffressen samt allem, was vom Hagel übrig geblieben ist! (Joe 1,4)13Da streckte Mose seinen Stab über das Land Ägypten aus, und der HERR ließ einen Ostwind über das Land wehen den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht; und am Morgen führte der Ostwind die Heuschrecken her. (Ps 78,26; Ps 104,4)14Und die Heuschrecken kamen über das ganze Land Ägypten und ließen sich nieder im ganzen Gebiet von Ägypten, so überaus viele, dass etwas Derartiges zuvor niemals gewesen ist, noch künftig sein wird. (2Mo 10,6; Ps 78,46; Ps 105,34)15Denn sie bedeckten die Fläche des ganzen Landes und verfinsterten das Land. Und sie fraßen alle Bodengewächse und alle Baumfrüchte, die vom Hagel übrig geblieben waren, und ließen nichts Grünes übrig an den Bäumen und an den Feldgewächsen im ganzen Land Ägypten. (2Mo 10,5; Ps 105,35; Joe 1,6)16Da ließ der Pharao Mose und Aaron schnell rufen und sprach: Ich habe mich versündigt an dem HERRN, eurem Gott, und an euch! (2Mo 9,27)17Und nun vergib mir meine Sünde nur noch dieses Mal, und betet zum HERRN, eurem Gott, dass er nur diesen Tod von mir abwende! (2Mo 8,4; 2Mo 9,28; 1Sam 15,25)18Und er ging hinaus vom Pharao und betete zum HERRN. (2Mo 8,8)19Da wendete der HERR den Wind um, dass er sehr stark aus dem Westen wehte und die Heuschrecken aufhob und sie ins Schilfmeer warf, sodass an allen Orten Ägyptens nicht eine übrig blieb. (Joe 2,20)20Aber der HERR verstockte das Herz des Pharao, sodass er die Kinder Israels nicht ziehen ließ. (2Mo 3,19; 2Mo 4,21; Jes 9,12; Jer 5,3)
Die neunte Plage: Finsternis
21Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Strecke deine Hand aus zum Himmel, damit es im Land Ägypten so finster wird, dass man die Finsternis greifen kann! (Spr 4,19; Pred 2,14; Jes 8,22; Jud 1,6; Jud 1,13)22Da streckte Mose seine Hand zum Himmel aus. Und es kam eine dichte Finsternis im ganzen Land Ägypten, drei Tage lang, (2Mo 20,21; 5Mo 4,11; Offb 16,10)23sodass während drei Tagen niemand den anderen sehen konnte, noch jemand von seinem Platz aufstehen konnte. Aber alle Kinder Israels hatten Licht in ihren Wohnungen. (Jes 60,1; Apg 9,9; Eph 5,8; Eph 5,14; Kol 1,13; 1Petr 2,9)24Da ließ der Pharao Mose rufen und sprach: Geht hin, dient dem HERRN; nur eure Schafe und Rinder sollen hierbleiben; lasst auch eure Kinder mit euch ziehen! (2Mo 10,8; 2Mo 12,3; 5Mo 16,2)25Mose sprach: Du musst auch Schlachtopfer und Brandopfer in unsere Hände geben, dass wir sie dem HERRN, unserem Gott, darbringen können; (2Mo 29,42; 3Mo 9,22; 3Mo 16,3)26aber auch unser eigenes Vieh soll mit uns gehen, und nicht eine Klaue darf zurückbleiben; denn davon müssen wir nehmen, um dem HERRN, unserem Gott, zu dienen. Auch wissen wir nicht, womit wir dem HERRN dienen sollen, bis wir dorthin kommen! (2Mo 12,32)27Aber der HERR verstockte das Herz des Pharao, sodass er sie nicht ziehen lassen wollte. (2Mo 4,21; 2Mo 9,12; Röm 1,21; Eph 4,18)28Und der Pharao sprach zu ihm: Geh hinweg von mir und hüte dich, dass du nicht mehr vor mein Angesicht kommst; an dem Tag, da du vor mein Angesicht kommst, sollst du sterben! (2Chr 25,16; Am 7,12)29Und Mose antwortete: Du hast recht geredet; ich werde dein Angesicht nicht mehr wiedersehen! (2Mo 12,31; Hebr 11,27)
1Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Geh zum Pharao. Denn ich selbst habe ihn und seine Minister unnachgiebig gemacht, damit ich diese Wunderzeichen unter ihnen tun kann. (2Mo 4,21; 2Mo 7,14)2Du sollst deinen Kindern und Enkeln einmal erzählen können, wie ich mit den Ägyptern umgesprungen bin und was für Wunderzeichen ich unter ihnen getan habe. Daran sollt ihr erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.« (2Mo 13,14; 5Mo 4,9; Ps 44,2)3Mose und Aaron gingen wieder zum Pharao und sagten: »So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: ›Wie lange weigerst du dich noch, dich vor mir zu beugen? Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dienen kann. (2Mo 4,23)4Sonst lasse ich morgen Heuschrecken über dein Land herfallen. (Offb 9,3)5Sie werden den ganzen Erdboden bedecken, sodass man ihn nicht mehr sehen kann. Sie werden alles kahl fressen, was vom Hagel nicht zerstört wurde. Sie sollen auch alle Bäume auf den Feldern kahl fressen. (2Mo 9,32; Joe 1,4; Joe 2,25)6Auch deine Paläste, die Häuser deiner Minister und alle anderen Häuser in Ägypten werden voller Heuschrecken sein. Noch nie in der Geschichte Ägyptens haben deine Vorfahren so etwas erlebt!‹« Mit diesen Worten wandte sich Mose ab und verließ den Palast.7Die Minister baten den Pharao: »Majestät, wie lange soll uns dieser Mann noch schaden? Lassen Sie diese Leute doch endlich ziehen, damit sie ihrem Gott dienen können! Sehen Sie denn nicht, wie Ägypten zugrunde geht?« (2Mo 7,5)8So kam es, dass Mose und Aaron noch einmal zum Pharao gebracht wurden. »Geht und dient dem HERRN, eurem Gott«, meinte der Pharao. »Wen wollt ihr denn alles mitnehmen?« (2Mo 8,4)9»Wir wollen Junge und Alte mitnehmen«, antwortete Mose, »unsere Söhne und Töchter, unsere Schafe und Rinder. Wir sollen alle zusammen ein Fest für den HERRN feiern.« (2Mo 12,37)10Der Pharao spottete: »Der HERR sei mit euch, so wie ich euch mit euren kleinen Kindern ziehen lasse. Ich durchschaue eure bösen Absichten. (1Mo 50,8; 2Mo 12,31)11Daraus wird nichts! Ihr Männer dürft gehen und dem HERRN dienen, denn darum habt ihr mich ja gebeten.« Dann ließ er sie aus dem Palast werfen. (2Mo 10,28)12Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Strecke deine Hand über Ägypten aus, damit die Heuschrecken über das Land herfallen und alle Pflanzen, die nach dem Hagelsturm noch übrig geblieben sind, kahl fressen.« (2Mo 7,19)13Also streckte Mose seinen Stab über Ägypten aus. Und der HERR ließ einen Ostwind kommen, der den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht wehte. Als der Morgen kam, hatte der Ostwind die Heuschrecken herangetrieben. (Ps 78,46; Ps 106,34)14Und die Heuschrecken fielen über das ganze Land her; sie ließen sich in ganz Ägypten nieder. Solch eine schlimme Heuschreckenplage hatte Ägypten nie zuvor heimgesucht und wird es auch nie wieder geben. (Joe 1,4; Joe 2,1)15Die Heuschrecken bedeckten den ganzen Boden und verfinsterten das Land. Sie fraßen alle Pflanzen ab und alle Früchte der Bäume, die den Hagelsturm überstanden hatten. In ganz Ägypten blieb nichts Grünes übrig, weder an den Bäumen noch an den Pflanzen. (2Mo 10,5; Ps 105,35)16Schnell ließ der Pharao Mose und Aaron holen. »Ich habe gegen den HERRN, euren Gott, und gegen euch gesündigt«, sagte er zu ihnen. (2Mo 8,4; 2Mo 9,27)17»Vergebt mir meine Sünde nur noch dieses eine Mal und bittet doch den HERRN, euren Gott, diese tödliche Plage zu beenden.« (2Mo 8,4; 1Sam 15,25)18Nachdem Mose den Palast verlassen hatte, betete er zum HERRN. (2Mo 8,26)19Da ließ der HERR den Wind in einen starken Westwind umschlagen, der die Heuschrecken ins Rote Meer[1] blies. Im ganzen Land blieb nicht eine einzige Heuschrecke übrig.20Der HERR machte das Herz des Pharaos hart, sodass er die Israeliten nicht ziehen ließ. (2Mo 4,21; 2Mo 11,10)
Die neunte Plage: Finsternis
21Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: »Strecke deine Hand zum Himmel aus. Dann wird eine Finsternis über Ägypten kommen, so dicht, dass man sie greifen kann.« (5Mo 28,29)22Mose erhob seine Hand zum Himmel, und drei Tage lang lag eine tiefe Finsternis über dem ganzen Land. (Ps 105,28)23Keiner konnte den anderen sehen und niemand verließ sein Haus. Dort jedoch, wo die Israeliten lebten, war es hell. (2Mo 8,18)24Da ließ der Pharao Mose rufen und sagte: »Geht und dient dem HERRN. Nur eure Schaf- und Rinderherden sollt ihr hier lassen. Aber eure Kinder dürfen mit euch gehen.« (2Mo 8,4)25Mose erwiderte: »Majestät, Sie müssen uns aber auch ermöglichen Schlacht- und Brandopfer für den HERRN, unseren Gott, darzubringen.26Daher muss auch unser Vieh mit uns ziehen; kein einziges Tier darf zurückbleiben. Wir müssen die Opfergaben für den HERRN, unseren Gott, aus ihnen auswählen. Und wir wissen erst, wenn wir an Ort und Stelle sind, welche Tiere wir ihm opfern sollen.« (2Mo 10,9)27Da verhärtete der HERR das Herz des Pharaos ein weiteres Mal, sodass er nicht bereit war, sie ziehen zu lassen. (2Mo 4,21; 2Mo 14,4)28»Hinaus mit dir!«, befahl er Mose. »Wage nicht, mir noch einmal unter die Augen zu kommen, sonst wirst du sterben!« (2Mo 10,11)29Mose antwortete ihm: »Sie haben recht, Majestät. Ich werde mich nie wieder bei Ihnen sehen lassen.« (Hebr 11,27)
1Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them,2and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” (2Mo 7,17; 2Mo 13,8; 2Mo 13,14; 5Mo 4,9; 5Mo 6,20; Ps 78,5; Joe 1,3)3So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. (1Kön 21,29)4For if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country, (3Mo 11,22; Spr 30,27; Joe 1,4; Joe 2,25; Offb 9,3)5and they shall cover the face of the land, so that no one can see the land. And they shall eat what is left to you after the hail, and they shall eat every tree of yours that grows in the field, (2Mo 9,32)6and they shall fill your houses and the houses of all your servants and of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day they came on earth to this day.’” Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh. (2Mo 8,3; 2Mo 8,21; Joe 2,9)7Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?”8So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. And he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. But which ones are to go?” (2Mo 10,24)9Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old. We will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.” (2Mo 3,18; 2Mo 5,1)10But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind.[1] (2Mo 10,24)11No! Go, the men among you, and serve the Lord, for that is what you are asking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.12Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, so that they may come upon the land of Egypt and eat every plant in the land, all that the hail has left.” (2Mo 7,19; 2Mo 10,4)13So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind had brought the locusts.14The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled on the whole country of Egypt, such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before, nor ever will be again. (Ps 78,46; Ps 105,34; Joe 2,2)15They covered the face of the whole land, so that the land was darkened, and they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Not a green thing remained, neither tree nor plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt. (Ps 105,35)16Then Pharaoh hastily called Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. (2Mo 9,27)17Now therefore, forgive my sin, please, only this once, and plead with the Lord your God only to remove this death from me.” (2Mo 8,8)18So he went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord. (2Mo 8,30; 2Mo 9,33)19And the Lord turned the wind into a very strong west wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt. (Joe 2,20)20But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go. (2Mo 4,21)
The Ninth Plague: Darkness
21Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.” (2Mo 10,12; Ps 105,28)22So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.23They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the people of Israel had light where they lived. (2Mo 8,22; 2Mo 9,4; 2Mo 9,6)24Then Pharaoh called Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; your little ones also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” (2Mo 10,8; 2Mo 10,10)25But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.26Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the Lord our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”27But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go. (2Mo 10,20)28Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me; take care never to see my face again, for on the day you see my face you shall die.”29Moses said, “As you say! I will not see your face again.” (Hebr 11,27)
1Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh. I have made him stubborn. I have also made his officials stubborn so I can perform my signs among them.2Then you will be able to tell your children and grandchildren how hard I was on the Egyptians. You can tell them I performed my signs among the people of Egypt. And all of you will know that I am the LORD.’3So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh. They said to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says, “How long will you refuse to obey me? Let my people go. Then they will be able to worship me.4If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow.5They will cover the ground so that it can’t be seen. They will eat what little you have left after the hail. That includes every tree growing in your fields.6They will fill your houses. They will be in the homes of all your officials and your people. Your parents and your people before them have never seen anything like it as long as they have lived here.” ’ Then Moses turned round and left Pharaoh.7Pharaoh’s officials said to him, ‘How long will this man be a trap for us? Let the people go. Then they’ll be able to worship the LORD their God. After everything that’s happened, don’t you realise that Egypt is destroyed?’8Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. ‘Go. Worship the LORD your God,’ he said. ‘But tell me who will be going.’9Moses answered, ‘We’ll go with our young people and old people. We’ll go with our sons and daughters. We’ll take our flocks and herds. We are supposed to hold a feast to honour the LORD.’10Pharaoh said, ‘Suppose I ever let you go, along with your women and children. Then the LORD really will be with all of you! Clearly you are planning to do something bad.11No! I’ll only allow the men to go and worship the LORD. After all, that’s what you have been asking for.’ Then Pharaoh drove Moses and Aaron out of his sight.12The LORD said to Moses, ‘Reach out your hand over Egypt so that locusts cover the land. They will eat up everything growing in the fields. They will eat up everything left by the hail.’13So Moses reached out his walking stick over Egypt. Then the LORD made an east wind blow across the land. It blew all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locusts.14Large numbers of them came down in every part of Egypt. There had never been a plague of locusts like it before. And there will never be one like it again.15The locusts covered the ground until it was black. They ate up everything left after the hail. They ate up everything growing in the fields. They ate up the fruit on the trees. There was nothing green left on any tree or plant in the whole land of Egypt.16Pharaoh quickly sent for Moses and Aaron. He said, ‘I have sinned against the LORD your God. I’ve also sinned against you.17Now forgive my sin one more time. Pray to the LORD your God to take this deadly plague away from me.’18After Moses left Pharaoh, he prayed to the LORD.19The LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind. It picked up the locusts. It blew them into the Red Sea. Not even one locust was left anywhere in Egypt.20But the LORD made Pharaoh stubborn. So Pharaoh wouldn’t let the people of Israel go.
The plague of darkness
21The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Reach out your hand towards the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt. It will be so dark that people can feel it.’22So Moses reached out his hand towards the sky. Then complete darkness covered Egypt for three days.23No one could see anyone else or go anywhere for three days. But all the people of Israel had light where they lived.24Then Pharaoh sent for Moses. He said to him, ‘Go. Worship the LORD. Even your women and children can go with you. Just leave your flocks and herds behind.’25But Moses said, ‘You must allow us to take our animals. We need to offer them as sacrifices and burnt offerings to the LORD our God.26Our livestock must also go with us. We have to use some of them to worship the LORD our God. We can’t leave even one animal behind. Until we get there, we won’t know what we are supposed to use to worship the LORD.’27But the LORD made Pharaoh stubborn. So he wouldn’t let the people go.28Pharaoh said to Moses, ‘Get out of my sight! Make sure you don’t come to see me again! If you do, you will die.’29‘I’ll do just as you say,’ Moses replied. ‘I will never come to see you again.’
