Ausrottung des Götzendienstes im Land. Der künftige Ort des Heiligtums und Gottesdienstes
1Dies sind die Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen, die ihr bewahren sollt, um sie zu tun in dem Land, das der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, dir gegeben hat, damit du es besitzt, alle Tage, die ihr auf Erden lebt. (5Mo 6,1; 1Kön 8,40; Ps 119,1; Lk 1,75)2Alle Stätten, wo die Heidenvölker, die ihr aus ihrem Besitz vertreiben werdet, ihren Göttern gedient haben, sollt ihr vollständig zerstören; es sei auf hohen Bergen oder auf Hügeln oder unter allerlei grünen Bäumen. (4Mo 33,52; 2Kön 16,4)3Und reißt ihre Altäre um und zerbrecht ihre Gedenksteine und verbrennt ihre Aschera-Standbilder mit Feuer und zerschlagt die geschnitzten Bilder ihrer Götter und rottet ihren Namen aus von jener Stätte. (5Mo 7,5; 2Chr 14,2)4Ihr sollt dem HERRN, eurem Gott, nicht auf diese Weise dienen; (3Mo 20,23; 5Mo 12,31)5sondern an dem Ort, den der HERR, euer Gott, aus allen euren Stämmen erwählen wird, um seinen Namen dorthin zu setzen, damit er [dort] wohne, da sollt ihr ihn suchen, und dahin sollst du kommen. (5Mo 4,29; 5Mo 12,11; 5Mo 14,23; 5Mo 26,2; Jos 18,1; 1Chr 16,10; 1Chr 22,19; 2Chr 3,1; Jes 55,6; Jer 7,12; Joh 1,39; Joh 4,20)6Dahin sollt ihr eure Brandopfer und eure Schlachtopfer bringen, eure Zehnten und das Hebopfer von eurer Hand und eure Gelübde[opfer] und eure freiwilligen Gaben und die Erstgeburt von euren Rindern und Schafen. (3Mo 17,2)7Und dort sollt ihr vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, essen und fröhlich sein, ihr und eure Familien, über allem, was eure Hand erworben hat, womit der HERR, dein Gott, dich gesegnet hat. (5Mo 12,17; 5Mo 16,11; Pred 5,18; 1Kor 10,31)8Ihr dürft nicht so handeln, wie wir es heute hier tun, dass jeder nur das tut, was recht ist in seinen Augen. (Ri 17,6; Ri 21,25)9Denn ihr seid bisher noch nicht zur Ruhe gekommen, noch zu dem Erbteil, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben will. (Jer 31,2; Mi 2,10; Hebr 4,8)10Ihr werdet aber über den Jordan ziehen und in dem Land wohnen, das euch der HERR, euer Gott, zum Erbe geben wird; und er wird euch Ruhe verschaffen vor allen euren Feinden ringsum, und ihr sollt sicher wohnen. (3Mo 25,18; 5Mo 11,31; Jos 11,23; Jos 21,43; Ps 91,1)11Und so soll es sein: An den Ort, den der HERR, euer Gott, erwählt, um seinen Namen dort wohnen zu lassen, dorthin sollt ihr alles bringen, was ich euch gebiete: eure Brandopfer und eure Schlachtopfer, eure Zehnten und das Hebopfer von eurer Hand und all eure auserlesenen Gelübde[opfer], die ihr dem HERRN geloben werdet. (5Mo 12,5)12Und ihr sollt fröhlich sein vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, ihr und eure Söhne und eure Töchter, eure Knechte und Mägde, auch der Levit, der in euren Toren ist; denn er hat keinen Teil noch Erbe mit euch. (5Mo 10,9; 5Mo 12,7; 5Mo 14,29; 5Mo 26,11; 5Mo 28,47; Neh 8,10; Ps 90,14; Ps 104,34; Phil 4,4)13Hüte dich, dass du deine Brandopfer nicht an irgendeinem Ort opferst, den du dir ersiehst; (5Mo 6,1; 1Kön 12,28; 2Chr 15,17)14sondern an dem Ort, den der HERR in einem deiner Stämme erwählt, da sollst du deine Brandopfer opfern, und dort sollst du alles tun, was ich dir gebiete. (3Mo 1,3; 3Mo 17,3; 3Mo 17,9)15Doch kannst du nach Herzenslust schlachten und Fleisch essen, nach dem Segen des HERRN, deines Gottes, den er dir gegeben hat, in allen deinen Toren; der Unreine oder der Reine darf davon essen, wie von der Gazelle oder von dem Hirsch. (5Mo 12,21; 5Mo 14,5; 5Mo 15,21)16Nur das Blut sollst du nicht essen, sondern es auf die Erde gießen wie Wasser. (3Mo 17,10; 5Mo 12,23; 5Mo 15,23)17Du darfst aber in deinen Toren nicht essen von den Zehnten deines Korns, deines Mosts und deines Öls, noch von der Erstgeburt deiner Rinder und deiner Schafe, noch von irgendeinem deiner Gelübde[opfer], die du geloben wirst, noch deine freiwilligen Gaben, noch das Hebopfer deiner Hand; (3Mo 27,30; 4Mo 18,21; 5Mo 12,11; 5Mo 14,22)18sondern vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, sollst du es essen, an dem Ort, den der HERR, dein Gott, erwählen wird, du und dein Sohn und deine Tochter und dein Knecht und deine Magd und der Levit, der in deinen Toren ist; und du sollst fröhlich sein vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, über alles, was du dir mit deiner Hand erworben hast. (5Mo 12,5; 5Mo 12,12; 5Mo 14,23; Lk 12,19)19Und hüte dich, den Leviten im Stich zu lassen, solange du in deinem Land lebst! (5Mo 14,27)20Wenn aber der HERR, dein Gott, deine Grenzen erweitern wird, wie er es dir verheißen hat, und du sprichst: Ich will Fleisch essen!, weil dich gelüstet, Fleisch zu essen, so darfst du Fleisch essen nach aller Herzenslust. (1Mo 15,18; 2Mo 23,31; 2Mo 34,24; 5Mo 11,24)21Ist aber der Ort, den der HERR, dein Gott, erwählt hat, um seinen Namen dorthin zu setzen, zu fern von dir, so darfst du von deinen Rindern oder von deinen Schafen schlachten, die der HERR dir gegeben hat — wie ich dir geboten habe —, und es in deinen Toren essen nach aller Herzenslust. (5Mo 12,5; 5Mo 12,11; 5Mo 16,6; 5Mo 16,11; 1Kön 14,21; Esr 6,12)22Gerade so wie die Gazelle oder der Hirsch gegessen wird, kannst du es essen; der Reine darf es in gleicher Weise wie der Unreine essen. (5Mo 12,15)23Nur daran halte fest, dass du nicht das Blut isst; denn das Blut ist das Leben; und du sollst das Leben nicht mit dem Fleisch essen! (5Mo 12,16)24So sollst du es nun nicht essen; sondern auf die Erde sollst du es gießen wie Wasser. (5Mo 12,16; 5Mo 15,23)25Du sollst es nicht essen, damit es dir und deinen Kindern nach dir gut geht, weil du tust, was in den Augen des HERRN recht ist. (2Mo 15,26; 5Mo 4,40; 5Mo 6,18)26Nur deine heiligen Gaben und deine Gelübde[opfer], die du hast, sollst du nehmen und an den Ort bringen, den der HERR erwählen wird. (3Mo 22,18; 3Mo 27,9; 4Mo 5,9; 5Mo 12,17; Ps 76,12)27Und du sollst deine Brandopfer, das Fleisch und das Blut, auf dem Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes, darbringen. Das Blut deiner Schlachtopfer soll an den Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes, gegossen werden, das Fleisch aber darfst du essen. (3Mo 1,5; 3Mo 1,11; 3Mo 3,2; 3Mo 3,8; 3Mo 4,18; 3Mo 4,25; 3Mo 17,11; Hebr 9,21)28Bewahre und befolge alle diese Worte, die ich dir gebiete, damit es dir und deinen Kindern nach dir gut geht ewiglich, weil du tust, was in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, recht und wohlgefällig ist. (5Mo 12,25; 5Mo 21,9)29Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, die Heidenvölker vor dir her ausrottet, da, wo du hinkommst, um sie aus ihrem Besitz zu vertreiben, und wenn du sie aus ihrem Besitz vertrieben hast und in ihrem Land wohnst, (5Mo 9,1; 5Mo 19,1; Jos 21,43)30so hüte dich, dass du dich nicht verführen lässt, sie nachzuahmen, nachdem sie doch vor dir her vertilgt worden sind, und dass du nicht nach ihren Göttern fragst und sagst: Wie dienten diese Heiden ihren Göttern? Ich will es ebenso tun! (3Mo 18,3; 5Mo 7,1; 5Mo 7,16; 5Mo 11,16; 2Kön 17,15; Ps 106,35; Jer 10,2; 1Petr 4,3; 3Joh 1,11)31Du sollst dem HERRN, deinem Gott, nicht auf diese Weise dienen, denn alles, was ein Gräuel ist für den HERRN, was er hasst, haben sie für ihre Götter getan; ja, sogar ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter haben sie für ihre Götter im Feuer verbrannt! (3Mo 18,21; 3Mo 18,30; 3Mo 20,2; 5Mo 18,9; Eph 5,6)
1Dies sind die Gebote und Rechte, die ihr halten sollt, dass ihr danach tut im Lande, das der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, dir gegeben hat, es einzunehmen, solange ihr auf Erden lebt:2Zerstört alle heiligen Stätten, wo die Heiden, die ihr vertreiben werdet, ihren Göttern gedient haben, es sei auf hohen Bergen, auf Hügeln oder unter jedem grünen Baum, (2Mo 34,13; 5Mo 7,5; 5Mo 7,25)3und reißt um ihre Altäre und zerbrecht ihre Steinmale und verbrennt mit Feuer ihre heiligen Pfähle, zerschlagt die Bilder ihrer Götzen und vertilgt ihren Namen von jener Stätte.4Ihr sollt dem HERRN, eurem Gott, so nicht dienen,5sondern die Stätte, die der HERR, euer Gott, erwählen wird aus allen euren Stämmen, dass er seinen Namen daselbst wohnen lässt, sollt ihr aufsuchen und dahin sollst du kommen.6Dorthin sollt ihr bringen eure Brandopfer und eure Schlachtopfer, eure Zehnten und eure heiligen Abgaben, eure Gelübdeopfer, eure freiwilligen Opfer und die Erstgeburt eurer Rinder und Schafe.7Und ihr und euer Haus sollt dort vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, essen und fröhlich sein über alles, was eure Hand erworben hat, womit dich der HERR, dein Gott, gesegnet hat.8Ihr sollt es nicht so halten, wie wir es heute hier tun, ein jeder, was ihm recht dünkt.9Denn ihr seid bisher noch nicht zur Ruhe und zu dem Erbteil gekommen, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, geben wird.10Ihr werdet aber über den Jordan gehen und in dem Lande wohnen, das euch der HERR, euer Gott, zum Erbe austeilen wird, und er wird euch Ruhe geben vor allen euren Feinden um euch her, und ihr werdet sicher wohnen. (Jos 1,13; Jos 21,44; 1Kön 5,5; Ps 95,11; Hos 2,20; Hebr 4,11)11Wenn nun der HERR, dein Gott, eine Stätte erwählt, dass sein Name daselbst wohne, sollt ihr dahin bringen alles, was ich euch gebiete: eure Brandopfer, eure Schlachtopfer, eure Zehnten, eure heiligen Abgaben und alle eure auserlesenen Gelübdeopfer, die ihr dem HERRN geloben werdet.12Und ihr sollt fröhlich sein vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, ihr und eure Söhne und eure Töchter, eure Knechte und eure Mägde und der Levit, der in euren Städten wohnt; denn er hat weder Anteil noch Erbe mit euch. (5Mo 10,9)13Hüte dich, dass du deine Brandopfer nicht an jeder Stätte opferst, die du siehst; (3Mo 17,8; Jos 22,16)14sondern an der Stätte, die der HERR erwählt in einem deiner Stämme, da sollst du deine Brandopfer opfern und alles tun, was ich dir gebiete.15Doch darfst du in allen deinen Städten ganz nach Herzenslust schlachten und Fleisch essen nach dem Segen des HERRN, deines Gottes, den er dir gegeben hat. Der Reine wie der Unreine dürfen davon essen, so wie man Reh oder Hirsch isst. (5Mo 14,5; 5Mo 22,1)16Nur das Blut sollst du nicht essen, sondern auf die Erde gießen wie Wasser. (3Mo 3,17; 3Mo 17,11)17Du darfst aber nicht essen in deinen Städten vom Zehnten deines Getreides, deines Weins, deines Öls, auch nicht von der Erstgeburt deiner Rinder und deiner Schafe oder von irgendeiner Gabe, die du gelobt hast, oder von deinem freiwilligen Opfer oder von deiner heiligen Abgabe,18sondern vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, sollst du das alles essen an der Stätte, die der HERR, dein Gott, erwählt, du und dein Sohn, deine Tochter, dein Knecht, deine Magd und der Levit, der in deiner Stadt lebt, und sollst fröhlich sein vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, über alles, was deine Hand erworben hat. (5Mo 14,23)19Und hüte dich, dass du den Leviten nicht leer ausgehen lässt, solange du in deinem Lande lebst. (5Mo 12,1; 5Mo 14,27)20Wenn aber der HERR, dein Gott, dein Gebiet erweitern wird, wie er dir zugesagt hat, und du sprichst: »Ich will Fleisch essen«, weil es dich gelüstet, Fleisch zu essen, so iss Fleisch ganz nach Herzenslust.21Ist aber die Stätte fern von dir, die der HERR, dein Gott, erwählen wird, dass er seinen Namen daselbst wohnen lasse, so schlachte von deinen Rindern oder Schafen, die dir der HERR gegeben hat, wie ich dir geboten habe, und iss es in deiner Stadt ganz nach Herzenslust.22So wie man Reh oder Hirsch isst, darfst du es essen; der Reine wie der Unreine dürfen’s beide essen. (5Mo 15,1)23Allein achte darauf, dass du das Blut nicht isst; denn das Blut ist das Leben; darum sollst du nicht zugleich mit dem Fleisch das Leben essen, (5Mo 16,1)24sondern du sollst das Blut auf die Erde gießen wie Wasser25und sollst es nicht essen, auf dass dir’s wohlgehe und deinen Kindern nach dir, weil du tust, was recht ist vor dem HERRN.26Aber deine heiligen Gaben, die dir geboten sind, und was du gelobst, das sollst du aufladen und an die Stätte bringen, die der HERR erwählen wird,27und sollst deine Brandopfer mit Fleisch und Blut legen auf den Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes. Das Blut deiner Schlachtopfer soll gegossen werden auf den Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes, aber das Fleisch sollst du essen. (5Mo 6,1)28Sieh zu und höre auf alle diese Worte, die ich dir gebiete, auf dass dir’s wohlgehe und deinen Kindern nach dir ewiglich, weil du tust, was recht und wohlgefällig ist vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott.29Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, vor dir her die Völker ausrottet, zu denen du kommst, ihr Land einzunehmen, und du es eingenommen hast und darin wohnst,30so hüte dich, dass du dich nicht verführen lässt, es ihnen nachzutun, nachdem sie vertilgt sind vor dir, und dass du nicht fragst nach ihren Göttern und sprichst: Wie haben diese Völker ihren Göttern gedient? Ebenso will auch ich es tun! (2Mo 23,24; Hes 20,32)31So sollst du dem HERRN, deinem Gott, nicht dienen; denn sie haben ihren Göttern alles getan, was dem HERRN ein Gräuel ist und was er hasst; denn sie haben ihren Göttern sogar ihre Söhne und Töchter mit Feuer verbrannt.
1Das sind die Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide, die ihr bewahren und die ihr halten sollt in dem Land, das der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, dir gegeben hat, damit du es in Besitz nimmst. Sie sollen so lange gelten, wie ihr in dem Land leben werdet. (2Mo 21,1; 5Mo 4,5; 5Mo 5,1)
Vernichtung fremder Kultstätten
2Ihr sollt alle Kultstätten zerstören, an denen die Völker, deren Besitz ihr übernehmt, ihren Göttern gedient haben: auf den hohen Bergen, auf den Hügeln und unter jedem üppigen Baum. (1Kön 14,23; 2Kön 3,6; 2Kön 16,4; 2Kön 17,1; Hes 6,13; Hos 4,13)3Ihr sollt ihre Altäre niederreißen und ihre Steinmale zerschlagen. Ihre Kultpfähle sollt ihr im Feuer verbrennen und die Bilder ihrer Götter umhauen. Ihren Namen sollt ihr an jeder solchen Stätte tilgen. (2Mo 23,24; 2Mo 34,13; 5Mo 7,5)
Eine einzige Kultstätte für Israel
4Ihr sollt nicht das Gleiche tun wie diese Völker, wenn ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, verehrt, (2Mo 20,24; 2Kön 18,22; 2Chr 29,1; Joh 4,20)5sondern ihr sollt nach der Stätte fragen, die der HERR, euer Gott, aus allen euren Stammesgebieten erwählen wird, indem er dort seinen Namen anbringt. Nach seiner Wohnung sollt ihr fragen und dorthin sollst du ziehen. (5Mo 12,21; 5Mo 14,24; 1Kön 9,3; 1Kön 11,36; 1Kön 14,21; 2Kön 21,4)6Dorthin sollt ihr eure Brandopfertiere und Schlachtopfertiere bringen, eure Zehnten und das Hebeopfer eurer Hand, was ihr dem HERRN gelobt habt und was ihr freiwillig gebt, und die Erstlinge eurer Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen.7Dort sollt ihr vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, das Mahl halten. Ihr sollt fröhlich sein, ihr und eure Familien, aus Freude über alles, was eure Hände geschafft haben, weil der HERR, dein Gott, dich gesegnet hat. (5Mo 12,12; 5Mo 14,26; 5Mo 16,11; 5Mo 26,11)
Der Zeitpunkt des Inkrafttretens
8Ihr sollt nicht tun, was jeder Einzelne für richtig hält, wie es hier bei uns heute noch geschieht. (Ri 17,6; Ri 21,25)9Denn ihr seid bis jetzt nicht in die Ruhe und in den Erbbesitz eingezogen, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt. (1Kön 8,56; Ps 95,11)10Wenn ihr aber den Jordan überschritten habt und in dem Land wohnt, das der HERR, euer Gott, an euch als Erbbesitz verteilt, wenn er euch Ruhe vor allen euren Feinden ringsum verschafft hat und ihr in Sicherheit wohnt, (2Sam 7,1; 1Kön 5,18)11dann sollt ihr alles, wozu ich euch verpflichte, an die Stätte bringen, die der HERR, euer Gott, erwählen wird, indem er dort seinen Namen wohnen lässt: eure Brandopfertiere und Schlachtopfertiere, eure Zehnten und das Hebeopfer eurer Hand und alle eure auserlesenen Gaben, die ihr dem HERRN gelobt habt. (5Mo 12,5; 5Mo 14,23; 5Mo 16,2; 5Mo 26,2)12Dort sollt ihr vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, fröhlich sein, ihr, eure Söhne und Töchter, eure Sklaven und Sklavinnen sowie die Leviten, die in euren Stadtbereichen Wohnrecht haben; denn der Levit hat nicht wie ihr Landanteil und Erbbesitz.
Unterscheidung von Opfer und Schlachtung
13Nimm dich in Acht! Verbrenn deine Brandopfertiere nicht an irgendeiner Stätte, die dir gerade vor die Augen kommt,14sondern nur an der Stätte, die der HERR im Gebiet eines deiner Stämme erwählen wird! Dort sollst du deine Brandopfertiere verbrennen und dort sollst du alles ausführen, wozu ich dich verpflichte. (5Mo 12,5; 5Mo 14,23; 5Mo 15,20; 5Mo 16,2; 5Mo 17,8; 5Mo 18,6; 5Mo 26,2; 5Mo 31,11)15Doch darfst du immer, wenn du es möchtest, und überall in deinen Stadtbereichen schlachten und Fleisch essen, soweit der Segen reicht, den dir der HERR, dein Gott, geschenkt hat. Jeder, der Reine wie der Unreine, darf davon essen, wie bei Gazelle und Damhirsch. (5Mo 12,20; 5Mo 15,22)16Das Blut aber sollt ihr nicht genießen, sondern wie Wasser auf die Erde schütten.17Auch darfst du in deinen Stadtbereichen nicht den Zehnten von Korn, Wein und Öl verzehren, die Erstlinge von Rindern, Schafen und Ziegen, alle Gaben, die du dem Herrn gelobt hast, die freiwilligen Gaben und das Hebeopfer deiner Hand. (5Mo 14,22)18Vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, sollst du sie verzehren, an der Stätte, die der HERR, dein Gott, auswählen wird - du, dein Sohn und deine Tochter, dein Sklave und deine Sklavin sowie die Leviten, die in deinen Stadtbereichen Wohnrecht haben -, und du sollst vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, fröhlich sein und dich freuen über alles, was deine Hände geschafft haben.19Nimm dich in Acht und lass die Leviten nicht im Stich, solange du im Land lebst! (5Mo 14,27)
Blut bei Opfer und Schlachtung
20Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dein Gebiet vergrößert, wie er es dir zugesagt hat, und du, weil du Appetit auf Fleisch hast, sagst: Ich möchte gern Fleisch essen, dann darfst du so viel Fleisch essen, wie du möchtest. (5Mo 19,8)21Und wenn die Entfernung zu der Stätte, die der HERR, dein Gott, auswählen wird, indem er dort seinen Namen anbringt, zu groß ist, dann schlachte, so wie ich es dir erlaubt habe, Rinder, Schafe oder Ziegen, die der HERR dir geschenkt hat, und iss in deinen Stadtbereichen, so viel du möchtest. (5Mo 12,5)22Auch sollst du davon essen, wie man von Gazelle und Damhirsch isst: Der Reine und der Unreine dürfen gemeinsam davon essen. (3Mo 17,11; 5Mo 15,22)23Doch beherrsche dich und genieße kein Blut; denn Blut ist Lebenskraft und du sollst nicht zusammen mit dem Fleisch die Lebenskraft verzehren.24Du sollst es nicht genießen, sondern wie Wasser auf die Erde schütten.25Du sollst es nicht genießen, damit es dir und später deinen Kindern gut geht, weil du tust, was in den Augen des HERRN richtig ist.26Die heiligen Abgaben jedoch, zu denen du verpflichtet bist, und die Gaben, die du selbst dem HERRN gelobt hast, sollst du aufladen und du sollst damit zu der Stätte ziehen, die der HERR auswählen wird.27Dort sollst du deine Brandopfertiere auf dem Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes, darbringen, das Fleisch und das Blut. Bei deinen Schlachtopfertieren soll das Blut auf den Altar des HERRN, deines Gottes, geschüttet werden, das Fleisch sollst du essen. (5Mo 12,14)28Achte und höre auf alle diese Worte, auf die ich dich verpflichte, damit es dir und später deinen Kindern immer gut geht, weil du tust, was in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, gut und richtig ist!
Verbot kanaanäischer Kultbräuche
29Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, die Völker, in deren Land du hineinziehst, um ihren Besitz zu übernehmen, vor dir niedergestreckt hat, wenn du ihren Besitz übernommen hast und dort wohnst, (5Mo 12,7)30dann nimm dich in Acht! Lauf nicht hinter ihnen her in die Falle, nachdem sie bei deinem Angriff vernichtet worden sind! Erkundige dich nicht nach ihren Göttern und frag nicht: Wie haben denn diese Völker ihren Göttern gedient? Ich will das Gleiche tun wie sie. Warning Against Idolatry
29“When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, (5Mo 19,1; Jos 23,4; Jos 23,5)30take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ (5Mo 7,16)31You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. The blood of your sacrifices must be poured beside the altar of the Lord your God, but you may eat the meat.28Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.29The Lord your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land,30and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by enquiring about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.’31You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshipping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.32See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.[1]
