1 Und es geschah, als Jesus alle diese Worte beendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: (Mt 7,28) 2 Ihr wisst, dass in zwei Tagen das Passah[1] ist; dann wird der Sohn des Menschen ausgeliefert, damit er gekreuzigt werde. (3Mo 23,4; Joh 2,13; Joh 16,21; Joh 17,22; Joh 20,18; 1Kor 5,6) 3 Da versammelten sich die obersten Priester und die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten des Volkes im Hof des Hohenpriesters, der Kajaphas hieß. (Ps 2,2; Mt 26,58; Mt 26,69; Lk 3,2; Joh 11,47; Joh 18,15; Apg 4,27) 4 Und sie hielten miteinander Rat, wie sie Jesus mit List ergreifen und töten könnten. (Mt 21,46) 5 Sie sprachen aber: Nicht während des Festes, damit kein Aufruhr unter dem Volk entsteht! (Lk 22,6) 6 Als nun Jesus in Bethanien im Haus Simons des Aussätzigen war, (Mt 21,17) 7 da trat eine Frau zu ihm mit einer alabasternen Flasche voll kostbaren Salböls und goss es auf sein Haupt, während er zu Tisch saß. (Lk 7,37; Joh 12,1) 8 Als das seine Jünger sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Verschwendung? (1Kor 2,14) 9 Man hätte dieses Salböl doch teuer verkaufen und den Armen geben können! (1Kor 13,3) 10 Als es aber Jesus bemerkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Warum bekümmert ihr diese Frau? Sie hat doch ein gutes Werk an mir getan! (Mt 9,4) 11 Denn die Armen habt ihr allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. (Mt 9,15; Joh 13,33) 12 Damit, dass sie dieses Salböl auf meinen Leib goss, hat sie mich zum Begräbnis bereitet. (Joh 19,40) 13 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wo immer dieses Evangelium verkündigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch von dem sprechen, was diese getan hat, zu ihrem Gedenken! (1Sam 2,30; Joh 12,26) 14 Da ging einer der Zwölf namens Judas Ischariot hin zu den obersten Priestern (Mt 10,4; Lk 22,3) 15 und sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben, wenn ich ihn euch verrate? Und sie setzten ihm 30 Silberlinge fest. (3Mo 27,3; Sach 11,12; 1Tim 6,9) 16 Und von da an suchte er eine gute Gelegenheit, ihn zu verraten. (Ps 10,9; Lk 4,13) 17 Am ersten Tag der ungesäuerten Brote traten die Jünger nun zu Jesus und sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, dass wir dir das Passahmahl zu essen bereiten? (2Mo 12,18) 18 Und er sprach: Geht hin in die Stadt zu dem und dem und sprecht zu ihm: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe; bei dir will ich mit meinen Jüngern das Passah halten! (Joh 7,6; Joh 7,8; Joh 7,30; Joh 11,28; Joh 12,23; Joh 12,27) 19 Und die Jünger machten es, wie Jesus ihnen befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Passah. (Mt 21,6; Joh 2,5) 20 Als es nun Abend geworden war, setzte er sich mit den Zwölfen zu Tisch. 21 Und während sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich verraten! (Joh 6,70; Joh 13,21) 22 Da wurden sie sehr betrübt, und jeder von ihnen fing an, ihn zu fragen: Herr, doch nicht ich? (Mt 17,23; Mt 18,31; Joh 13,22) 23 Er antwortete aber und sprach: Der mit mir die Hand in die Schüssel taucht, der wird mich verraten. (Ps 41,10; Joh 13,18) 24 Der Sohn des Menschen geht zwar dahin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; aber wehe jenem Menschen, durch den der Sohn des Menschen verraten wird! Es wäre für jenen Menschen besser, wenn er nicht geboren wäre. (Jes 53,7; Dan 9,26; Sach 13,7; Mt 18,7; Lk 18,31; Joh 17,12; Apg 1,18; Apg 17,2) 25 Da antwortete Judas, der ihn verriet, und sprach: Rabbi, doch nicht ich? Er spricht zu ihm: Du hast es gesagt! (Mt 23,8; Mt 26,49) 26 Als sie nun aßen, nahm Jesus das Brot und sprach den Segen, brach es, gab es den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmt, esst! Das ist mein Leib. (Joh 6,35; Joh 6,55; 1Kor 10,4) 27 Und er nahm den Kelch und dankte, gab ihnen denselben und sprach: Trinkt alle daraus! 28 Denn das ist mein Blut, das des neuen Bundes, das für viele vergossen wird zur Vergebung der Sünden. (2Mo 24,8; Jes 53,11; Sach 9,11; Mt 20,28; Röm 3,25; Hebr 9,12; Hebr 9,22; Hebr 13,20) 29 Ich sage euch aber: Ich werde von jetzt an von diesem Gewächs des Weinstocks nicht mehr trinken bis zu jenem Tag, da ich es neu mit euch trinken werde im Reich meines Vaters! 30 Und nachdem sie den Lobgesang gesungen hatten, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg. (Ps 113,1; Joh 18,11) 31 Da spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr werdet in dieser Nacht alle an mir Anstoß nehmen; denn es steht geschrieben: »Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen«.[2] (Sach 13,7; Joh 16,32) 32 Aber nachdem ich auferweckt worden bin, will ich euch nach Galiläa vorangehen. (Mt 28,7; Mt 28,10; Mk 16,7) 33 Da antwortete Petrus und sprach zu ihm: Wenn auch alle an dir Anstoß nehmen, so werde doch ich niemals Anstoß nehmen! (Joh 13,37) 34 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Wahrlich, ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen! 35 Petrus spricht zu ihm: Und wenn ich auch mit dir sterben müsste, werde ich dich nicht verleugnen! Ebenso sprachen auch alle Jünger. (1Kön 20,11; 1Kor 10,12) 36 Da kommt Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Grundstück, das Gethsemane genannt wird. Und er spricht zu den Jüngern: Setzt euch hier hin, während ich weggehe und dort bete! (Mt 26,39; Mt 26,42; Lk 22,41) 37 Und er nahm Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus mit sich; und er fing an, betrübt zu werden, und ihm graute sehr. 38 Da spricht er zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist tief betrübt bis zum Tod. Bleibt hier und wacht mit mir! (Ps 42,6; Jes 53,3; Joh 12,27) 39 Und er ging ein wenig weiter, warf sich auf sein Angesicht, betete und sprach: Mein Vater! Ist es möglich, so gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber; doch nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du willst! (Mt 20,22; Joh 4,34; Joh 5,30; Joh 6,38; Joh 18,11; Röm 15,3; Phil 2,8) 40 Und er kommt zu den Jüngern und findet sie schlafend und spricht zu Petrus: Könnt ihr also nicht eine Stunde mit mir wachen? (Ps 69,21) 41 Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt! Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach. (Röm 7,18; Eph 6,18; 1Petr 5,8) 42 Wiederum ging er zum zweiten Mal hin, betete und sprach: Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch nicht an mir vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, so geschehe dein Wille! (Mt 6,10; Mt 26,39; Röm 12,1) 43 Und er kommt und findet sie wieder schlafend; denn die Augen waren ihnen schwer geworden. (Lk 9,32) 44 Und er ließ sie, ging wieder hin, betete zum dritten Mal und sprach dieselben Worte. (2Kor 12,8) 45 Dann kommt er zu seinen Jüngern und spricht zu ihnen: Schlaft ihr noch immer und ruht? Siehe, die Stunde ist nahe, und der Sohn des Menschen wird in die Hände der Sünder ausgeliefert. (Joh 12,3; Joh 17,1) 46 Steht auf, lasst uns gehen! Siehe, der mich verrät, ist nahe. (Ps 119,150) 47 Und während er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, einer der Zwölf, und mit ihm eine große Schar mit Schwertern und Stöcken, [gesandt] von den obersten Priestern und Ältesten des Volkes. (Joh 18,3; Apg 1,16) 48 Der ihn aber verriet, hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Der, den ich küssen werde, der ist’s, den ergreift! 49 Und sogleich trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi!, und küsste ihn. (2Sam 20,9; Mt 26,25; Lk 22,48) 50 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Freund, wozu bist du hier? Da traten sie hinzu, legten Hand an Jesus und nahmen ihn fest. (Ps 41,10; Mt 20,13; Joh 13,27) 51 Und siehe, einer von denen, die bei Jesus waren, streckte die Hand aus, zog sein Schwert, schlug den Knecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab. (Lk 22,38) 52 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Platz! Denn alle, die zum Schwert greifen, werden durch das Schwert umkommen! (1Mo 9,6; Hes 35,6; Offb 13,10) 53 Oder meinst du, ich könnte nicht jetzt meinen Vater bitten, und er würde mir mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel schicken? (2Kön 6,17; Dan 7,10; Lk 22,43; Joh 18,36) 54 Wie würden dann aber die Schriften erfüllt, dass es so kommen muss? (Mt 1,22; Mt 26,24; Lk 24,44; Joh 10,18) 55 In jener Stunde sprach Jesus zu der Volksmenge: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr ausgezogen mit Schwertern und Stöcken, um mich zu fangen! Täglich bin ich bei euch im Tempel gesessen und habe gelehrt, und ihr habt mich nicht ergriffen. 56 Das alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten erfüllt würden. — Da verließen ihn alle Jünger und flohen. (1Mo 3,15; Jes 53,1; Mt 26,54) 57 Die aber Jesus festgenommen hatten, führten ihn ab zu dem Hohenpriester Kajaphas, wo die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt waren. (Mal 2,7; Mt 26,3) 58 Petrus aber folgte ihnen von ferne bis zum Hof des Hohenpriesters. Und er ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um den Ausgang [der Sache] zu sehen. (Joh 18,15) 59 Aber die obersten Priester und die Ältesten und der ganze Hohe Rat suchten ein falsches Zeugnis gegen Jesus, um ihn zu töten. (Apg 6,11) 60 Aber sie fanden keines; und obgleich viele falsche Zeugen herzukamen, fanden sie doch keines. (Ps 27,12) 61 Zuletzt aber kamen zwei falsche Zeugen und sprachen: Dieser hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes zerstören und ihn in drei Tagen aufbauen! (5Mo 19,15; Jer 26,11; Joh 2,19; Apg 6,14) 62 Und der Hohepriester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts auf das, was diese gegen dich aussagen? 63 Jesus aber schwieg. Und der Hohepriester begann und sprach zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, dass du uns sagst, ob du der Christus bist, der Sohn Gottes! (1Kön 22,16; Jes 53,7; Mt 27,12; Mt 27,14; Joh 10,24; Hebr 10,31) 64 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Du hast es gesagt! Überdies sage ich euch: Künftig werdet ihr den Sohn des Menschen sitzen sehen zur Rechten der Macht und kommen auf den Wolken des Himmels! (Mk 14,62; Mk 16,19; Apg 7,55; Hebr 1,3) 65 Da zerriss der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat gelästert! Was brauchen wir weitere Zeugen? Siehe, nun habt ihr seine Lästerung gehört. (4Mo 14,6; Mt 9,3; Joh 10,33; Apg 14,14) 66 Was meint ihr? Sie antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig! (3Mo 24,16; Joh 19,7) 67 Da spuckten sie ihm ins Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten; andere gaben ihm Backenstreiche (Hi 30,10; Ps 69,8; Jes 50,6; Mt 27,30; Mk 10,34; Apg 23,2; 1Petr 2,23) 68 und sprachen: Christus, weissage uns! Wer ist’s, der dich geschlagen hat? 69 Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof. Und eine Magd trat zu ihm und sprach: Auch du warst mit Jesus, dem Galiläer! (Mt 21,11; Joh 7,52) 70 Er aber leugnete vor allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst! (Spr 29,25; Mt 26,33) 71 Als er dann in den Vorhof hinausging, sah ihn eine andere und sprach zu denen, die dort waren: Auch dieser war mit Jesus, dem Nazarener! (Mt 2,23) 72 Und er leugnete nochmals mit einem Schwur: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht! 73 Bald darauf aber traten die Umstehenden herzu und sagten zu Petrus: Wahrhaftig, du bist auch einer von ihnen; denn auch deine Sprache verrät dich. (Ri 12,6; Neh 13,24) 74 Da fing er an, [sich] zu verfluchen[3] und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht! Und sogleich krähte der Hahn. (Mt 10,33; Mt 26,34; Lk 22,60; Joh 13,38; 2Tim 2,12) 75 Und Petrus erinnerte sich an das Wort Jesu, der zu ihm gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. (Mt 5,4; Mk 14,72; Lk 22,32; Lk 22,62; 2Kor 7,10)

1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, 2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. 3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. 5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. 6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. 8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. 14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. 17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? 18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? 23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. 30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. 36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. 47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. 57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; 60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, 61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee? 69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

C’est alors que le Fils de l’homme sera livré pour être crucifié. 3 Alors, les chefs des prêtres et les responsables du peuple se rassemblèrent dans la cour du grand-prêtre Caïphe; 4 ils décidèrent d’un commun accord de s’emparer de Jésus par ruse pour le faire mourir. 5 Cependant ils se disaient: Il ne faut pas agir pendant la fête, pour ne pas provoquer d’émeute parmi le peuple. 6 Jésus se trouvait à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon, le lépreux. (Mk 14,3; Joh 12,1) 7 Une femme s’approcha de lui, tenant un flacon d’albâtre rempli d’un parfum de myrrhe de grande valeur[1]. Pendant que Jésus était à table, elle répandit ce parfum sur sa tête. 8 En voyant cela, les disciples s’indignèrent et dirent: Pourquoi un tel gaspillage? 9 On aurait pu vendre ce parfum pour un bon prix et donner l’argent aux pauvres! 10 Mais, se rendant compte de cela, Jésus leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? Ce qu’elle vient d’accomplir pour moi est vraiment une belle action. 11 Des pauvres, vous en aurez toujours autour de vous; mais moi, vous ne m’aurez pas toujours avec vous. 12 Si elle a répandu cette myrrhe sur moi, c’est pour préparer mon enterrement. 13 Vraiment, je vous l’assure, dans le monde entier, partout où cette Bonne Nouvelle qu’est l’Evangile sera annoncée, on racontera aussi, en souvenir d’elle, ce qu’elle vient de faire. 14 Alors, l’un des Douze, celui qui s’appelait Judas Iscariot, se rendit auprès des chefs des prêtres (Mk 14,10; Lk 22,3) 15 pour leur demander: Si je me charge de vous livrer Jésus, quelle somme me donnerez-vous? Ils lui versèrent trente pièces d’argent. 16 A partir de ce moment-là, il chercha une occasion favorable pour leur livrer Jésus. 17 Le premier jour de la fête des Pains sans levain, les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus pour lui demander: Où veux-tu que nous fassions les préparatifs pour le repas de la Pâque? (Mk 14,12; Lk 22,7) 18 Il leur répondit: Allez à la ville, chez un tel, et parlez-lui ainsi: « Le Maître te fait dire: Mon heure est arrivée. C’est chez toi que je prendrai le repas de la Pâque avec mes disciples. » 19 Les disciples se conformèrent aux ordres de Jésus et préparèrent le repas de la Pâque.,; (Mk 14,17; Lk 22,14; Lk 22,21; Joh 13,21) 20 Le soir, Jésus se mit à table avec les Douze et, 21 pendant qu’ils mangeaient, il dit: Vraiment, je vous l’assure: l’un de vous me trahira. 22 Les disciples en furent consternés. Ils se mirent, l’un après l’autre, à lui demander: Seigneur, ce n’est pas moi, n’est-ce pas? 23 En réponse, il leur dit: C’est un qui a trempé son pain dans le plat avec moi, lui, il me trahira. 24 Certes, le Fils de l’homme s’en va conformément à ce que les Ecritures annoncent à son sujet. Mais malheur à celui qui le trahit! Il aurait mieux valu pour lui n’être jamais né! 25 A son tour, Judas, qui le trahissait, lui demanda: Maître, ce n’est pas moi, n’est-ce pas? – Tu le dis toi-même, lui répondit Jésus. voir (Mk 14,22; Lk 22,15; 1Kor 11,23) 26 Au cours du repas, Jésus prit du pain puis, après avoir prononcé la prière de reconnaissance, il le partagea en morceaux, puis il les donna à ses disciples, en disant: Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps. 27 Ensuite il prit une coupe et, après avoir remercié Dieu, il la leur donna en disant: Buvez-en tous; 28 ceci est mon sang, par lequel est scellée l’alliance. Il va être versé pour beaucoup d’hommes, afin que leurs péchés soient pardonnés. 29 Je vous le déclare: désormais, je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne jusqu’au jour où je boirai le vin nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père. 30 Après cela, ils chantèrent les psaumes de la Pâque[2]. Ensuite, ils sortirent pour se rendre au mont des Oliviers. (Ps 113,1; Mk 14,26; Lk 22,33; Joh 13,37) 31 Jésus leur dit alors: Cette nuit, ce qui m’arrivera vous ébranlera tous dans votre foi. En effet, il est écrit: Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées[3]. (Sach 13,7) 32 Néanmoins, quand je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée. 33 Pierre prit la parole et lui dit: Même si tous les autres sont ébranlés à cause de ce qui t’arrivera, moi je ne le serai pas! 34 Jésus reprit: Vraiment, je te l’assure: cette nuit même, avant que le coq ait chanté, tu m’auras renié trois fois. 35 Pierre réaffirma: Même s’il me fallait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas. Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose. 36 Là-dessus, Jésus arriva avec eux en un lieu appelé Gethsémané. Il dit à ses disciples: Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je vais prier là-bas. (Mk 14,32; Lk 22,39) 37 Il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée. Il commença à être envahi d’une profonde tristesse, et l’angoisse le saisit. 38 Alors il leur dit: Je suis accablé de tristesse, à en mourir. Restez ici et veillez avec moi! 39 Puis il fit quelques pas, se laissa tomber la face contre terre, et pria ainsi: O Père, si tu le veux, écarte de moi cette coupe[4]! Toutefois, que les choses se passent, non pas comme moi je le veux, mais comme toi tu le veux. (Jes 51,17; Jes 51,22; Jer 25,15; Offb 15,7) 40 Ensuite, il revint auprès des disciples et les trouva endormis. Il dit à Pierre: Ainsi, vous n’avez pas été capables de veiller une seule heure avec moi! 41 Veillez et priez, pour ne pas céder à la tentation[5]. L’esprit de l’homme est plein de bonne volonté, mais la nature humaine est bien faible. 42 Puis il s’éloigna une deuxième fois, et se remit à prier en disant: O mon Père, s’il n’est pas possible que cette coupe me soit épargnée, s’il faut que je la boive, alors, que ta volonté soit faite. 43 Il revint encore vers ses disciples et les trouva de nouveau endormis, car ils avaient tellement sommeil qu’ils n’arrivaient pas à garder les yeux ouverts. 44 Il les laissa donc, et s’éloigna de nouveau. Pour la troisième fois, il pria en répétant les mêmes paroles. 45 Lorsqu’il revint auprès de ses disciples, il leur dit: Vous dormez encore et vous vous reposez[6]! L’heure est venue où le Fils de l’homme est livré entre les mains des pécheurs. 46 Levez-vous et allons-y. Car celui qui me trahit est là. 47 Il n’avait pas fini de parler que Judas, l’un des Douze, survint, accompagné d’une troupe nombreuse armée d’épées et de gourdins. Cette troupe était envoyée par les chefs des prêtres et les responsables du peuple. (Mk 14,43; Lk 22,47; Joh 18,2) 48 Le traître avait convenu avec eux d’un signe en disant: Celui que j’embrasserai, c’est lui, saisissez-vous de lui. 49 Aussitôt, il se dirigea vers Jésus et lui dit: Bonsoir, Maître! Et il l’embrassa. 50 – Mon ami, lui dit Jésus, ce que tu es venu faire ici, fais-le! Alors les autres s’avancèrent et, mettant la main sur Jésus, ils se saisirent de lui. 51 A ce moment, l’un des compagnons de Jésus porta la main à son épée, la dégaina, en frappa le serviteur du grand-prêtre et lui emporta l’oreille. 52 Jésus lui dit: Remets ton épée à sa place, car tous ceux qui se serviront de l’épée mourront par l’épée. 53 Penses-tu donc que je ne pourrais pas faire appel à mon Père? A l’instant même, il enverrait des dizaines de milliers d’anges à mon secours. 54 Mais alors, comment les Ecritures, qui annoncent que tout doit se passer ainsi, s’accompliraient-elles? 55 Là-dessus, Jésus dit à la troupe: Me prenez-vous pour un bandit, pour que vous soyez venus en force avec épées et gourdins afin de vous emparer de moi? J’étais assis chaque jour dans la cour du Temple pour donner mon enseignement et vous ne m’avez pas arrêté! 56 Mais tout ceci est arrivé pour que les écrits des prophètes s’accomplissent. Alors tous les disciples l’abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite. 57 Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus le conduisirent devant Caïphe, le grand-prêtre, chez qui les spécialistes de la Loi et les responsables du peuple s’étaient déjà rassemblés. (Mk 14,53; Lk 22,54; Lk 22,63; Joh 18,12; Joh 18,19) 58 Pierre le suivit à distance jusqu’au palais du grand-prêtre et il entra dans la cour où il s’assit au milieu des gardes pour voir comment tout cela finirait. 59 Les chefs des prêtres et le Grand-Conseil au complet cherchaient un faux témoignage contre Jésus pour pouvoir le condamner à mort. 60 Mais, bien qu’un bon nombre de faux témoins se soient présentés, ils ne parvenaient pas à trouver de motif valable. Finalement, il en vint tout de même deux 61 qui déclarèrent: Cet homme a dit: « Je peux démolir le temple de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours. » 62 Alors le grand-prêtre se leva et demanda à Jésus: Tu n’as rien à répondre aux témoignages qu’on vient de porter contre toi? 63 Jésus garda le silence. Alors le grand-prêtre reprit en disant: Je t’adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous déclarer si tu es le Messie, le Fils de Dieu. 64 Jésus lui répondit: Tu l’as dit toi-même. De plus, je vous le déclare: A partir de maintenant, vous verrez le Fils de l’homme siéger à la droite du Tout-Puissant[7] et venir en gloire sur les nuées du ciel[8]. (Ps 110,1; Dan 7,13) 65 A ces mots, le grand-prêtre déchira ses vêtements en signe de consternation et s’écria: Il vient de prononcer des paroles blasphématoires! Qu’avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Vous venez vous-mêmes d’entendre le blasphème. 66 Quel est votre verdict? Ils répondirent: Il est passible de mort. 67 Alors, ils lui crachèrent au visage et le frappèrent. D’autres le giflèrent 68 en disant: Hé, Messie, fais le prophète! Dis-nous qui vient de te frapper! 69 Pendant ce temps, Pierre était resté assis dehors, dans la cour intérieure. Une servante s’approcha de lui et dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen. (Mk 14,66; Lk 22,56; Joh 18,15; Joh 18,25) 70 Mais Pierre le nia en disant devant tout le monde: Je ne vois pas ce que tu veux dire. 71 Comme il se dirigeait vers le porche pour sortir, une autre servante l’aperçut et dit à ceux qui étaient là: En voilà un qui était avec ce Jésus de Nazareth. 72 Il le nia de nouveau et il jura: Je ne connais pas cet homme! 73 Après un petit moment, ceux qui se tenaient dans la cour s’approchèrent de Pierre et lui dirent: C’est sûr, toi aussi, tu fais partie de ces gens! C’est évident: il suffit d’entendre ton accent! 74 Alors Pierre se mit à dire: Je le jure! Et que je sois maudit si ce n’est pas vrai: je ne connais pas cet homme. Et aussitôt, un coq chanta. 75 Alors Pierre se souvint de ce que Jésus lui avait dit: « Avant que le coq chante, tu m’auras renié trois fois. » Il se glissa dehors et se mit à pleurer amèrement.
