1Und der HERR redete zu Mose in der Ebene Moabs, am Jordan, Jericho gegenüber, und sprach: (4Mo 26,3; 4Mo 33,48; 4Mo 36,13)2Gebiete den Kindern Israels, dass sie von ihrem Erbbesitztum den Leviten Städte geben, in denen sie wohnen können; dazu sollt ihr den Leviten auch einen Weideplatz rings um die Städte geben, (Jos 14,4; Jos 21,2; 2Chr 11,14; Hes 45,3; Hes 48,8)3damit sie in den Städten wohnen und in den Weideplätzen ihr Vieh, ihre Habe und alle ihre Tiere haben können! (5Mo 12,19)4Die Weideplätze der Städte aber, die ihr den Leviten geben sollt, sollen sich von der Stadtmauer nach außen hin 1 000 Ellen weit ringsum erstrecken.5So sollt ihr nun außen vor der Stadt an der Seite gegen Osten 2 000 Ellen messen und an der Seite gegen Süden 2 000 Ellen und an der Seite gegen Westen 2 000 Ellen und an der Seite gegen Norden 2 000 Ellen, sodass die Stadt in der Mitte liegt. Das sollen ihre Weideplätze sein. (3Mo 25,33; 2Chr 11,14; 2Chr 13,9; 2Chr 23,2; 2Chr 31,19)6Und unter den Städten, die ihr den Leviten geben werdet, sollen die sechs Zufluchtsstädte sein, die ihr ihnen zu geben habt, damit dorthin fliehen kann, wer einen Totschlag begangen hat; und außerdem sollt ihr ihnen noch 42 Städte geben; (4Mo 35,13; 5Mo 4,41; Jos 20,1)7alle Städte, die ihr den Leviten gebt, sollen 48 Städte sein, samt ihren Weideplätzen. (Jos 21,41)8Und was die Städte betrifft, die ihr vom Erbbesitz der Kinder Israels geben werdet, sollt ihr von einem großen [Stamm] viele nehmen und von einem kleineren wenige; jeder [Stamm] soll gemäß dem ihm zugeteilten Erbteil den Leviten von seinen Städten geben. (4Mo 26,54; Jos 21,3; 2Kor 8,13)
Die sechs Zufluchtsstädte
9Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach:10Rede zu den Kindern Israels und sage zu ihnen: Wenn ihr über den Jordan in das Land Kanaan kommt, (3Mo 14,34; 3Mo 25,2; 4Mo 34,2; 5Mo 12,9)11sollt ihr euch Städte wählen, die euch als Zufluchtsstädte dienen, damit ein Totschläger, der einen Menschen aus Versehen erschlägt, dorthin fliehen kann. (2Mo 21,13; 5Mo 4,41; 5Mo 19,1; Jos 20,1)12Und diese Städte sollen euch als Zuflucht dienen vor dem Bluträcher[1], damit der Totschläger nicht sterben muss, ehe er vor der Gemeinde vor Gericht gestanden hat. (4Mo 35,19; 4Mo 35,24; 4Mo 35,25; 5Mo 19,5; 5Mo 19,11; Jos 20,3; 2Sam 14,7)13Und unter den Städten, die ihr abgeben werdet, sollen euch sechs als Zufluchtsstädte dienen. (4Mo 35,6)14Drei Städte sollt ihr diesseits des Jordans abgeben und drei sollt ihr im Land Kanaan abgeben; das sollen Zufluchtsstädte sein. (5Mo 4,41; Jos 20,7)15Diese sechs Städte sollen sowohl den Kindern Israels als auch den Fremdlingen und Bewohnern ohne Bürgerrecht[2] unter euch als Zuflucht dienen, damit dahin fliehen kann, wer einen Menschen aus Versehen erschlagen hat. (3Mo 24,22; 4Mo 15,15)16Wenn er ihn aber mit einem eisernen Werkzeug schlägt, sodass er stirbt, dann ist er ein Totschläger, und ein solcher Totschläger soll unbedingt getötet werden. (2Mo 21,12; 2Mo 21,14; 3Mo 24,17; 4Mo 35,17; 5Mo 19,11)17Schlägt er ihn mit einem Faustkeil, mit dem jemand getötet werden kann, sodass er stirbt, dann ist er ein Totschläger, und ein solcher Totschläger soll unbedingt getötet werden. (2Mo 21,12)18Schlägt er ihn mit einem hölzernen Werkzeug in der Hand, mit dem man jemand totschlagen kann, sodass er stirbt, dann ist er ein Totschläger, und ein solcher Totschläger soll unbedingt getötet werden.
Die Blutrache
19Der Bluträcher soll den Totschläger töten; wenn er ihn antrifft, soll er ihn töten. (4Mo 35,21; 4Mo 35,24; 4Mo 35,27; 5Mo 19,6; 5Mo 19,12)20Stößt einer den anderen aus Hass, oder wirft er absichtlich etwas auf ihn, sodass er stirbt, (Gal 5,19)21oder schlägt er ihn aus Feindschaft mit seiner Hand, sodass er stirbt, so soll der, welcher ihn geschlagen hat, unbedingt getötet werden, denn er ist ein Totschläger. Der Bluträcher soll den Totschläger töten, wenn er ihn antrifft. (1Mo 4,8; 2Sam 3,27; 2Sam 20,10; 1Kön 2,31; Mt 5,21)22Wenn er ihn aber aus Versehen, nicht aus Feindschaft stößt oder irgendein Gerät unabsichtlich auf ihn wirft, (2Mo 21,13; 5Mo 19,5; Jes 20,3)23oder wenn er irgendeinen Stein, von dem man sterben kann, auf ihn wirft, sodass er stirbt, und hat es nicht gesehen und ist nicht sein Feind, und wollte ihm auch keinen Schaden zufügen,24dann soll die Gemeinde zwischen dem, der geschlagen hat, und dem Bluträcher nach diesen Rechtsbestimmungen entscheiden. (4Mo 35,12; Jos 20,6)25Und die Gemeinde soll den Totschläger aus der Hand des Bluträchers erretten und ihn wieder zu seiner Zufluchtsstadt führen, in die er geflohen war; und er soll dort bleiben, bis zum Tod des Hohenpriesters, den man mit dem heiligen Öl gesalbt hat. (2Mo 29,7; Jos 20,6; Dan 9,26)26Wenn allerdings der Totschläger aus dem Gebiet seiner Zufluchtsstadt, in die er geflohen ist, hinausgeht, (4Mo 35,27)27und der Bluträcher ihn außerhalb der Grenzen seiner Zufluchtsstadt findet, und der Bluträcher tötet den Totschläger, so hat er keine Blutschuld; (2Mo 22,2; 5Mo 19,6; 5Mo 19,10)28denn jener sollte bis zum Tod des Hohenpriesters in seiner Zufluchtsstadt bleiben und erst nach dem Tod des Hohenpriesters wieder zum Land seines Eigentums zurückkehren.29Und dies soll euch als Rechtssatzung gelten für alle eure Geschlechter in allen euren Wohnorten. (4Mo 27,11)30Jeden, der einen Menschen erschlägt — auf die Aussage der Zeugen hin soll man den Totschläger totschlagen; ein einziger Zeuge aber genügt nicht, um gegen einen Menschen zur Hinrichtung auszusagen. (1Mo 9,5; 2Mo 21,12; 5Mo 17,6; 5Mo 19,15; Mt 18,16; 2Kor 13,1; 1Tim 5,19; Hebr 10,28; Offb 11,3)31Und ihr sollt kein Lösegeld annehmen für das Leben des Totschlägers, der des Todes schuldig ist, sondern er soll unbedingt getötet werden. (5Mo 19,11)32Ihr sollt auch kein Lösegeld von dem annehmen, der zu seiner Zufluchtsstadt geflohen ist, damit er vor dem Tod des Priesters zurückkehren und in dem Land wohnen kann.33Und ihr sollt das Land nicht entweihen, in dem ihr euch befindet! Denn das Blut entweiht das Land; und für das Land kann keine Sühnung erwirkt werden wegen des Blutes, das darin vergossen worden ist, außer durch das Blut dessen, der es vergossen hat. (1Mo 9,5; 5Mo 21,1; 2Sam 21,1; 2Kön 24,4; Ps 106,38)34So verunreinigt nun das Land nicht, in dem ihr wohnt und in dessen Mitte ich wohne! Denn ich, der HERR, wohne in der Mitte der Kinder Israels. (2Mo 25,8; 2Mo 29,45; 3Mo 18,25; 5Mo 21,23; Hes 48,35)
1The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, (4Mo 22,1)2“Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites some of the inheritance of their possession as cities for them to dwell in. And you shall give to the Levites pasturelands around the cities. (Jos 14,3; Jos 21,2; Hes 45,1; Hes 48,8)3The cities shall be theirs to dwell in, and their pasturelands shall be for their cattle and for their livestock and for all their beasts.4The pasturelands of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits[1] all around.5And you shall measure, outside the city, on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall belong to them as pastureland for their cities.6“The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities. (4Mo 35,13; 5Mo 4,41; Jos 20,2; Jos 20,7; Jos 21,3; Jos 21,13; Jos 21,21; Jos 21,27; Jos 21,32; Jos 21,36; Jos 21,38)7All the cities that you give to the Levites shall be forty-eight, with their pasturelands. (Jos 21,41)8And as for the cities that you shall give from the possession of the people of Israel, from the larger tribes you shall take many, and from the smaller tribes you shall take few; each, in proportion to the inheritance that it inherits, shall give of its cities to the Levites.” (4Mo 26,54; 4Mo 33,54; Jos 21,3)
Cities of Refuge
9And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,10“Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, (5Mo 19,2; Jos 20,2)11then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person without intent may flee there. (2Mo 21,13)12The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.13And the cities that you give shall be your six cities of refuge. (4Mo 35,6)14You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities in the land of Canaan, to be cities of refuge. (5Mo 4,41; Jos 20,8)15These six cities shall be for refuge for the people of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills any person without intent may flee there. (4Mo 15,16)16“But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death. (2Mo 21,12; 2Mo 21,14; 3Mo 24,17; 5Mo 19,11)17And if he struck him down with a stone tool that could cause death, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.18Or if he struck him down with a wooden tool that could cause death, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.19The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death; when he meets him, he shall put him to death. (5Mo 19,6; 5Mo 19,12; Jos 20,3; Jos 20,5)20And if he pushed him out of hatred or hurled something at him, lying in wait, so that he died, (2Mo 21,14; 5Mo 19,11)21or in enmity struck him down with his hand, so that he died, then he who struck the blow shall be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him. (4Mo 35,19)22“But if he pushed him suddenly without enmity, or hurled anything on him without lying in wait (2Mo 21,13)23or used a stone that could cause death, and without seeing him dropped it on him, so that he died, though he was not his enemy and did not seek his harm,24then the congregation shall judge between the manslayer and the avenger of blood, in accordance with these rules. (4Mo 35,12; 4Mo 35,19; Jos 20,6)25And the congregation shall rescue the manslayer from the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge to which he had fled, and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil. (2Mo 29,7; 3Mo 4,3; 3Mo 21,10; Jos 20,6)26But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the boundaries of his city of refuge to which he fled,27and the avenger of blood finds him outside the boundaries of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of blood. (4Mo 35,19)28For he must remain in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest, but after the death of the high priest the manslayer may return to the land of his possession. (4Mo 35,25)29And these things shall be for a statute and rule for you throughout your generations in all your dwelling places. (4Mo 27,11)30“If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses. But no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness. (5Mo 17,6; 5Mo 19,15; Mt 18,16; Joh 8,17; 2Kor 13,1; 1Tim 5,19; Hebr 10,28)31Moreover, you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall be put to death.32And you shall accept no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the high priest.33You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it.
