1Débora e Baraque, filho de Abinoão, compuseram então e cantaram este cântico de vitória:2“Os líderes de Israel conduziram corajosamente o povo. Este seguiu-os de voluntariamente. Sim, bendito seja o SENHOR!3Escutem, ó reis! Ouçam com atenção, ó governantes! Pois vou cantar ao SENHOR, vou entoar hinos de louvor ao SENHOR, Deus de Israel.4Quando saíste de Seir, e deixaste os campos de Edom, a terra tremeu, os céus derramaram chuvas.5As montanhas tremeram diante do SENHOR, o Deus do Sinai, perante o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel.6Nos dias de Sangar, filho de Anate, e nos dias de Jael, as grandes estradas ficaram desertas; os viajantes tomaram atalhos retorcidos.7O povo de Israel conteve-se e não lutou, até que apareceu Débora, até que levantei uma mãe em Israel.8Quando Israel vai atrás de deuses estrangeiros, é a derrocada de tudo, é a guerra. Os senhores que nos dominavam não permitiam sequer que tivéssemos um escudo ou uma lança nas mãos. Entre 40 000 soldados israelitas não se encontra uma só arma!9Como me alegro nos chefes de Israel, que tão generosamente se deram a si próprios! Louvem o SENHOR!10Que Israel inteiro, ricos e pobres, se juntem nos seus louvores, tanto os que andam montados em brancos jumentos e pisam ricos tapetes em casa, como os que têm de andar a pé pelos caminhos.11Os músicos de cada povoação juntam-se no poço da vila, para exaltar os triunfos do SENHOR. Sem cessar, fazem suceder hinos e baladas, sobre como o SENHOR salvou Israel com um exército de combatentes! O povo do SENHOR passou as portas das cidades.12Levanta-te, Débora, e canta! Ergue-te, Baraque! Tu, filho de Abinoão, chega-te, com os teus prisioneiros!13Descendo o monte Tabor via-se o nobre resto do povo. O povo do SENHOR desceu avançando contra os poderosos.14De Efraim, cujas raízes estão na antiga região de Amaleque, desceram guerreiros atrás de Benjamim e do seu povo; de Maquir descem os príncipes e de Zebulão, os comandantes.15Veio até ao vale essa nobre gente de Issacar, com Débora e com Baraque. À ordem de Baraque acorreram todos ao vale. Contudo, a tribo de Rúben não se deslocou.16Porque ficas sentado em casa, no meio dos rebanhos, ouvindo os balidos dos animais e as flautas dos pastores? Sim, a tribo de Rúben não pode estar com a consciência descansada.17Porque ficou também Gileade do lado de lá do Jordão, e por que razão Dan ficou à beira dos seus barcos? E qual a razão que levou Aser a ficar impassível, nas praias, descansando junto aos seus portos?18Mas as tribos de Zebulão e de Naftali não tiveram medo de morrer nos campos de batalha.19Os reis de Canaã lutaram em Taanaque, junto às fontes de Megido, mas deles não levaram prata.20Até as próprias estrelas do céu lutaram contra Sísera.21O veloz ribeiro de Quisom os arrastou, os varreu. Avante, alma minha, corajosamente!22Ouve o trotar dos cascos da cavalaria inimiga! Observa o galopar dos seus corcéis!23Pois apesar disso o anjo de SENHOR amaldiçoou Meroz: ‘Que os seus habitantes sejam asperamente amaldiçoados’, disse. ‘Porque não quiseram empenhar-se na luta pelo SENHOR como seus valentes.’24Bendita seja Jael, a mulher de Heber, o queneu. Sim, que ela seja abençoada, acima de todas as mulheres, nos seus lares.25Pediu-lhe água, e ela deu-lhe leite, numa bela taça.26Mas depois, pegou numa estaca, num martelo, cravou-a na testa de Sísera, rachando-lhe a cabeça, atravessando-a de lado a lado.27Ele dobrou-se a seus pés e ali ficou prostrado; a seus pés caiu e ali ficou! Ali no chão caiu sem vida.28A mãe de Sísera bem olhava pela janela, esperando o seu regresso: ‘Mas porque é que o seu carro demora tanto a regressar? Porque é que não se ouve ainda o barulho do rodado dos carros pelo caminho?’29As amigas que lhe faziam companhia respondiam e ela concordava:30‘É que deve haver grande despojo a repartir e isso leva tempo. Cada homem fica com uma ou duas raparigas.’ ‘Sim’, acrescentava, ‘Sísera há de trazer vestidos de lindas cores, e muitos presentes para me oferecer.’31Ó SENHOR, que todos os teus inimigos pereçam como Sísera, mas aqueles que te amam, que sejam como o Sol, quando se levanta na sua força!” Depois disto acontecer, houve paz na terra durante 40 anos.

Was shield or spear to be seen among forty thousand in Israel? Awake, awake, break out in a song! Arise, Barak, lead away your captives, O son of Abinoam. (Sl 57:8; Sl 68:18; Ef 4:8)13Then down marched the remnant of the noble; the people of the Lord marched down for me against the mighty.14From Ephraim their root they marched down into the valley,[4] following you, Benjamin, with your kinsmen; from Machir marched down the commanders, and from Zebulun those who bear the lieutenant’s[5] staff; (Nm 32:39; Jz 3:27; Jz 12:15)15the princes of Issachar came with Deborah, and Issachar faithful to Barak; into the valley they rushed at his heels. Among the clans of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. (Jz 4:14)16Why did you sit still among the sheepfolds, to hear the whistling for the flocks? (Jz 4:17)25He asked for water and she gave him milk; she brought him curds in a noble’s bowl. (Jz 4:19)26She sent her hand to the tent peg and her right hand to the workmen’s mallet; she struck Sisera; she crushed his head; she shattered and pierced his temple. (Jz 4:21)27Between her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still; between her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell—dead.28“Out of the window she peered, the mother of Sisera wailed through the lattice: ‘Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why tarry the hoofbeats of his chariots?’ (2 Sm 6:16; Pv 7:6)29Her wisest princesses answer, indeed, she answers herself,30‘Have they not found and divided the spoil?— A womb or two for every man; spoil of dyed materials for Sisera, spoil of dyed materials embroidered, two pieces of dyed work embroidered for the neck as spoil?’ (Ex 15:9)31“So may all your enemies perish, O Lord!
