1Então o SENHOR disse a Moisés: “Agora vais ver o que hei de fazer ao Faraó. Ele será forçado a deixar o meu povo. E não apenas isso: ele próprio os lançará fora desta terra.”2E acrescentou: “Eu sou o SENHOR,3o Deus Todo-Poderoso, que apareceu a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacob, ainda que não lhes tenha revelado toda a força do meu nome: o SENHOR[1].4Estabeleci com eles uma solene aliança nos termos da qual prometi dar-lhes, a eles e aos seus descendentes, a terra de Canaã, em que habitavam.5Ouvi o choro de aflição do povo de Israel, escravizado pelos egípcios, e decidi executar a minha aliança.6Portanto, diz aos descendentes de Israel que vou pôr em ação todo o meu grande poder e farei grandes manifestações de juízo, com o meu forte braço, para os libertar da escravidão e torná-los livres.7Aceitá-los-ei como meu povo e serei o seu Deus; e saberão que eu sou o SENHOR, o seu Deus, que os salvou dos egípcios.8Hei de levá-los à terra que prometi a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacob, e que ficará a pertencer ao meu povo. Eu sou o SENHOR.”9Moisés foi dizer isto tudo ao povo, mas não quiseram mais ouvi-lo, porque estavam profundamente deprimidos por causa das trágicas consequências daquilo que antes lhes tinha dito.10Por isso, o SENHOR falou de novo a Moisés:11“Vai ter outra vez com o Faraó e diz-lhe que tem de deixar sair o meu povo.”12“Mas SENHOR”, replicou Moisés, “bem vês, pois, se os meus próprios irmãos já não me querem ouvir, que será do Faraó, tanto mais não sendo um orador, não tendo habilidade para argumentar!”13Contudo, o SENHOR ordenou a Moisés e a Aarão que fossem ter de novo com o povo de Israel e com o Faraó, o rei do Egito, dizendo-lhe que deixasse partir o povo.
Genealogias de Rúben, Simeão e Levi
14Estes são os chefes das famílias patriarcais de algumas das tribos de Israel. Dos descendentes de Rúben, o filho mais velho de Israel: Enoque, Palu, Hezrom e Carmi.15Dos descendentes de Simeão: Jemuel, Jamim, Oade, Jaquim, Zoar e Saul, este último, filho de uma cananita.16Dos descendentes de Levi, e segundo as suas idades: Gerson, Coate e Merari. Levi viveu 137 anos.17Os filhos de Gerson foram: Libni e Simei, e as suas famílias.18Os filhos de Coate: Amrão, Izar, Hebrom e Uziel. Coate viveu 133 anos.19Os filhos de Merari: Mali e Musi. Estas são as famílias dos levitas de acordo com as suas idades.20Amrão, filho de Coate, casou com Joquebede, sua tia, e tiveram como filhos Aarão e Moisés. Amrão viveu até à idade de 137 anos.21Os filhos de Izar foram: Coré, Nefegue e Zicri.22Os de Uziel: Misael, Elzafã e Sitri.23Aarão, filho de Amrão, casou com Eliseba, filha de Aminadabe e irmã de Nassom. Os seus filhos foram Nadabe, Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar.24Os filhos de Coré foram: Assir, Elcana e Abiassafe. Estas são as famílias de Coré.25Eleazar, filho de Aarão, casou com uma das filhas de Putiel. Um dos filhos que tiveram foi Fineias. Estes são pois os nomes dos chefes de clã dos levitas, segundo as suas famílias.26Aarão e Moisés, incluídos aqui nesta lista, são aqueles a quem o SENHOR disse: “Levem todo o meu povo de Israel para fora da terra do Egito.”27Foram eles, Aarão e Moisés, que falaram com o Faraó dizendo-lhe para os deixar tirar o povo do Egito.
Aarão porta-voz de Moisés
28No dia em que o SENHOR falou a Moisés no Egito, disse-lhe:29“Eu sou o SENHOR. Vai e diz ao Faraó tudo quanto te mandei dizer.”30Foi também este mesmo Moisés que replicou ao SENHOR, objetando: “Eu não sei falar bem. Como é que o Faraó me vai ouvir?”

14These are the heads of their fathers’ houses: the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the clans of Reuben.
