Uma Nação Rebelde
2Ouçam, ó céus! Escute, ó terra! Pois o SENHOR falou: “Criei filhos e os fiz crescer, mas eles se revoltaram contra mim.3O boi reconhece o seu dono, e o jumento conhece a manjedoura do seu proprietário, mas Israel nada sabe, o meu povo nada compreende”.4Ah, nação pecadora, povo carregado de iniquidade! Raça de malfeitores, filhos dados à corrupção! Abandonaram o SENHOR, desprezaram o Santo de Israel e o rejeitaram.5Por que haveriam de continuar a ser castigados? Por que insistem na revolta? A cabeça toda está ferida, todo o coração está sofrendo.6Da sola do pé ao alto da cabeça não há nada são; somente machucados, vergões e ferimentos abertos, que não foram limpos nem enfaixados nem tratados com azeite.7A terra de vocês está devastada, suas cidades foram destruídas a fogo; os seus campos estão sendo tomados por estrangeiros diante de vocês e devastados como a ruína que eles costumam causar.8Só restou a cidade[1] de Sião como tenda numa vinha, como abrigo numa plantação de melões, como uma cidade sitiada.9Se o SENHOR dos Exércitos não tivesse poupado alguns de nós, já estaríamos como Sodoma e semelhantes a Gomorra.10Governantes de Sodoma, ouçam a palavra do SENHOR! Vocês, povo de Gomorra, escutem a instrução de nosso Deus!11“Para que me oferecem tantos sacrifícios?”, pergunta o SENHOR. “Para mim, chega de holocaustos[2] de carneiros e da gordura de novilhos gordos. Não tenho nenhum prazer no sangue de novilhos, de cordeiros e de bodes!12Quando vocês vêm à minha presença, quem pediu que pusessem os pés em meus átrios?13Parem de trazer ofertas inúteis! O incenso de vocês é repugnante para mim. Luas novas, sábados e reuniões! Não consigo suportar suas assembleias cheias de iniquidade.14Suas festas da lua nova e suas festas fixas, eu as odeio. Tornaram-se um fardo para mim; não as suporto mais!15Quando vocês estenderem as mãos em oração, esconderei de vocês os meus olhos; mesmo que multipliquem as suas orações, não as escutarei! “As suas mãos estão cheias de sangue!16Lavem-se! Limpem-se! Removam suas más obras para longe da minha vista! Parem de fazer o mal,17aprendam a fazer o bem! Busquem a justiça, acabem com a opressão.[3] Lutem pelos direitos do órfão, defendam a causa da viúva.18“Venham, vamos refletir juntos”, diz o SENHOR. “Embora os seus pecados sejam vermelhos como escarlate, eles se tornarão brancos como a neve; embora sejam rubros como púrpura, como a lã se tornarão.19Se vocês estiverem dispostos a obedecer, comerão os melhores frutos desta terra;20mas, se resistirem e se rebelarem, serão devorados pela espada.” Pois o SENHOR é quem fala!21Vejam como a cidade fiel se tornou prostituta! Antes cheia de justiça e habitada pela retidão, agora está cheia de assassinos!22Sua prata tornou-se escória, seu licor ficou aguado.23Seus líderes são rebeldes, amigos de ladrões; todos eles amam o suborno e andam atrás de presentes. Eles não defendem os direitos do órfão, e não tomam conhecimento da causa da viúva.24Por isso o Soberano, o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Poderoso de Israel, anuncia: “Ah! Derramarei minha ira sobre os meus adversários e me vingarei dos meus inimigos.25Voltarei minha mão contra você; tirarei toda a sua escória e removerei todas as suas impurezas.26Restaurarei os seus juízes como no passado; os seus conselheiros, como no princípio. Depois disso você será chamada cidade de retidão, cidade fiel”.27Sião será redimida com justiça, com retidão os que se arrependerem.28Mas os rebeldes e os pecadores serão destruídos, e os que abandonam o SENHOR perecerão.29“Vocês se envergonharão dos carvalhos sagrados que tanto apreciam; ficarão decepcionados com os jardins sagrados que escolheram.30Vocês serão como um terebinto cujas folhas estão caindo, como um jardim sem água.31O poderoso se tornará como estopa, e sua obra como fagulha; ambos serão queimados juntos sem que ninguém apague o fogo”.
2Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken: “Children[1] have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me. (Dt 4:26; Dt 32:1; Dt 32:6; Dt 32:10; Dt 32:15; Mq 1:2; Mq 6:2)3The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master’s crib, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.” (Jr 8:7)4Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged. (Is 5:24; Is 31:1; Ez 14:5; Mt 3:7)5Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. (Is 9:13; Is 31:6; Jr 5:3)6From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil. (Sl 38:3; Jr 8:22)7Your country lies desolate; your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence foreigners devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners. (Dt 28:51; Is 5:5; Is 6:11)8And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city. (Jó 27:18; Is 10:32; Is 37:22; Zc 2:10; Zc 9:9)9If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah. (Gn 19:24; Is 10:21; Is 13:19; Lm 3:22; Rm 9:29)10Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching[2] of our God, you people of Gomorrah! (Dt 32:32; Is 3:9; Ez 16:46; Ez 16:48; Ez 16:55; Ap 11:8)11“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats. (1 Sm 15:22; Pv 15:8; Is 66:3; Jr 6:20; Ml 1:10)12“When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts? (Ex 23:17; Ex 34:23)13Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations— I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly. (Ex 12:16; Lv 23:36; Nm 28:11; 1 Cr 23:31; Jr 7:9; Jl 2:15)14Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. (Is 1:13)15When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. (1 Rs 8:22; Pv 1:28; Is 59:3; Mq 3:4)16Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, (Jr 2:22; 1 Pe 3:11)17learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. (Is 1:23; Jr 22:3; Tg 1:27)18“Come now, let us reason[3] together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Sl 51:7; Is 43:26; Mq 6:2; Ap 7:14)19If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; (Dt 30:15)20but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Nm 23:19; Is 1:2; Is 24:3; Is 40:5; Is 58:14; Mq 4:4)
The Unfaithful City
21How the faithful city has become a whore,[4] she who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers. (Ex 34:15; Jr 2:20; Jr 31:23)22Your silver has become dross, your best wine mixed with water. (Jr 6:30; Ez 22:18)23Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not bring justice to the fatherless, and the widow’s cause does not come to them. (Ex 23:8; Is 1:17; Jr 5:28; Mq 7:3; Zc 7:10)24Therefore the Lord declares, the Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: “Ah, I will get relief from my enemies and avenge myself on my foes. (Dt 32:41; Sl 132:2; Is 3:1; Is 10:33)25I will turn my hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy. (Sl 81:14; Is 5:25; Ez 22:20; Am 1:8; Ml 3:3)26And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.” (Jr 33:7; Jr 33:11; Zc 8:3)27Zion shall be redeemed by justice, and those in her who repent, by righteousness. (Jr 22:3)28But rebels and sinners shall be broken together, and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed. (Jó 31:3; Sl 1:6)29For they[5] shall be ashamed of the oaks that you desired; and you shall blush for the gardens that you have chosen. (Is 57:5; Is 65:3; Is 66:17; Os 4:13; Os 4:19)30For you shall be like an oak whose leaf withers, and like a garden without water. (Jr 17:8)31And the strong shall become tinder, and his work a spark, and both of them shall burn together, with none to quench them. (Jz 16:9; Is 66:24)
