1Observei quando o Cordeiro abriu o primeiro dos sete selos. Então ouvi um dos seres viventes dizer com voz de trovão: “Venha!”2Olhei, e diante de mim estava um cavalo branco. Seu cavaleiro empunhava um arco, e foi-lhe dada uma coroa; ele cavalgava como vencedor determinado a vencer.3Quando o Cordeiro abriu o segundo selo, ouvi o segundo ser vivente dizer: “Venha!”4Então saiu outro cavalo; e este era vermelho. Seu cavaleiro recebeu poder para tirar a paz da terra e fazer que os homens se matassem uns aos outros. E lhe foi dada uma grande espada.5Quando o Cordeiro abriu o terceiro selo, ouvi o terceiro ser vivente dizer: “Venha!” Olhei, e diante de mim estava um cavalo preto. Seu cavaleiro tinha na mão uma balança.6Então ouvi o que parecia uma voz entre os quatro seres viventes, dizendo: “Um quilo[1] de trigo por um denário[2] e três quilos de cevada por um denário, e não danifique o azeite e o vinho!”7Quando o Cordeiro abriu o quarto selo, ouvi a voz do quarto ser vivente dizer: “Venha!”8Olhei, e diante de mim estava um cavalo amarelo. Seu cavaleiro chamava-se Morte, e o Hades[3] o seguia de perto. Foi-lhes dado poder sobre um quarto da terra para matar pela espada, pela fome, por pragas e por meio dos animais selvagens da terra.9Quando ele abriu o quinto selo, vi debaixo do altar as almas daqueles que haviam sido mortos por causa da palavra de Deus e do testemunho que deram.10Eles clamavam em alta voz: “Até quando, ó Soberano, santo e verdadeiro, esperarás para julgar os habitantes da terra e vingar o nosso sangue?”11Então cada um deles recebeu uma veste branca, e foi-lhes dito que esperassem um pouco mais, até que se completasse o número dos seus conservos e irmãos que deveriam ser mortos como eles.12Observei quando ele abriu o sexto selo. Houve um grande terremoto. O sol ficou escuro como tecido de crina negra, toda a lua tornou-se vermelha como sangue,13e as estrelas do céu caíram sobre a terra como figos verdes caem da figueira quando sacudidos por um vento forte.14O céu se recolheu como se enrola um pergaminho, e todas as montanhas e ilhas foram removidas de seus lugares.15Então os reis da terra, os príncipes, os generais, os ricos, os poderosos—todos, escravos e livres, se esconderam em cavernas e entre as rochas das montanhas.16Eles gritavam às montanhas e às rochas: “Caiam sobre nós e escondam-nos da face daquele que está assentado no trono e da ira do Cordeiro!17Pois chegou o grande dia da ira deles; e quem poderá suportar?”

And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword. (Zc 1:8; Zc 6:2; Mt 10:34; Mt 24:6)5When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. (Zc 6:2; Ap 6:3)6And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A quart[1] of wheat for a denarius,[2] and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!” (Ez 4:10; Ez 5:10; Ez 5:16; Ap 7:3; Ap 9:4)7When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” (Ap 6:3)8And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth. (Lv 26:22; Dt 32:24; Ez 14:21; Zc 6:3)9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. (Ap 1:2; Ap 1:9; Ap 14:18; Ap 16:7; Ap 20:4)10They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (Sl 79:10; Sl 94:3; Sl 119:84; Zc 1:12; Lc 18:7; Ap 3:7; Ap 3:10; Ap 11:18; Ap 19:2)11Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers[3] should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been. (Gn 15:16; Hb 11:40; Ap 3:4; Ap 7:9; Ap 14:13)12When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, (Is 50:3; Mt 24:29; Hb 12:26; Ap 11:13; Ap 16:18)13and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. (Is 34:4; Ap 8:10; Ap 9:1)14The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. (Is 54:10; Jr 4:24; Ez 38:20; Na 1:5; Ap 6:13; Ap 16:20; Ap 20:11; Ap 21:1)15Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave[4] and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, (Is 2:19; Is 2:21)16calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, (Os 10:8; Lc 23:30; Ap 4:2)17for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” (Ed 9:15; Sl 76:7; Jr 30:7; Jl 2:11; Jl 2:31; Ml 3:2; Lc 21:36)
