1Teritoriul urmașilor lui Iosif începea de la Iordan, din dreptul Ierihonului, către apele Ierihonului, în partea de răsărit și urca prin pustie, de la Ierihon către muntele Betelului.2Apoi începea de la Betel (adică Luz), traversa către hotarul archiților spre Atarot3și cobora înspre apus, către teritoriul iafletiților, până la hotarul Bet‑Horonul de Jos și până la Ghezer, atingând în final țărmul mării.4Acolo și‑au primit moștenirea urmașii lui Iosif – Manase și Efraim.5Iată care era teritoriul urmașilor lui Efraim, potrivit clanurilor lor: hotarul moștenirii lor dinspre răsărit începea de la Atarot-Adar, urca până la Bet‑Horonul de Sus6și atingea țărmul mării. Din Micmetat, în nord, se întorcea către răsărit, înspre Taanat-Șilo, traversând Ianoah în partea de răsărit.7Din Ianoah cobora la Atarot și Naarata, atingând Ierihonul și ajungând la Iordan.8Din Tapuah mergea către apus înspre uedul[1] Kana și atingea țărmul mării. Aceasta era moștenirea seminției efraimiților, potrivit clanurilor lor. (Ios 12:1)9Efraimiții mai aveau și un număr de cetăți în teritoriul urmașilor lui Manase, fiecare cetate având satele dimprejurul ei.10Ei nu i‑au alungat însă pe canaaniții care locuiau la Ghezer și, prin urmare, canaaniții au locuit printre efraimiți până în ziua aceasta, fiind puși la muncă de corvoadă.
1The allotment of the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel. (Ios 8:15; Ios 18:12)2Then going from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites. (Gen 28:19; Ios 18:13; Jud 1:23; Jud 1:26)3Then it goes down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and it ends at the sea. (Ios 10:10; Ios 10:33)4The people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance. (Ios 17:14)5The territory of the people of Ephraim by their clans was as follows: the boundary of their inheritance on the east was Ataroth-addar as far as Upper Beth-horon, (Ios 18:13)6and the boundary goes from there to the sea. On the north is Michmethath. Then on the east the boundary turns around toward Taanath-shiloh and passes along beyond it on the east to Janoah, (Ios 17:7)7then it goes down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, and touches Jericho, ending at the Jordan. (1 Cro 7:28)8From Tappuah the boundary goes westward to the brook Kanah and ends at the sea. Such is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Ephraim by their clans, (Ios 17:8)9together with the towns that were set apart for the people of Ephraim within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages. (Ios 16:8)10However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day but have been made to do forced labor. (Gen 49:15; Ios 17:13; Jud 1:29; 1 Re 9:16)
