1Cu șase zile înainte de Paște, Isus a venit în Betania, unde era Lazăr, cel pe care Isus îl înviase dintre cei morți. (Mat 26:6; Mar 14:3; Lu 7:37)2Au pregătit acolo o cină pentru El. Marta slujea, iar Lazăr era unul dintre cei ce ședeau la masă[1] cu El.3Maria a luat o litră[2] de parfum de nard pur, foarte scump, a uns picioarele lui Isus și I‑a șters picioarele cu părul ei. Casa s‑a umplut de mirosul parfumului.4Dar Iuda Iscarioteanul, unul dintre ucenicii Lui, cel care urma să‑L trădeze, a zis:5– De ce nu s‑a vândut parfumul acesta cu trei sute de denari[3], iar banii să fi fost dați săracilor? (Ioan 6:7)6Spunea însă lucrul acesta nu pentru că‑i păsa de cei săraci, ci pentru că era un hoț și, fiind cel care ținea punga, fura el ce se punea în ea.7Atunci Isus a zis: – Las‑o, fiindcă l‑a păstrat pentru[4] ziua înmormântării Mele.8Căci pe săraci îi aveți întotdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveți întotdeauna.9O mare mulțime de iudei au aflat că El este acolo și au venit, nu numai pentru Isus, ci și ca să‑l vadă pe Lazăr, pe care El îl înviase dintre cei morți.10Prin urmare, conducătorii preoților s‑au hotărât să‑l omoare și pe Lazăr,11pentru că mulți dintre iudei îi părăseau din cauza lui și credeau în Isus.
Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
12În ziua următoare, mulțimea cea mare care venise la sărbătoare, auzind că Isus vine la Ierusalim, (Mat 21:4; Mar 11:7; Lu 19:35)13a luat ramuri de palmieri și I‑a ieșit în întâmpinare. Ei strigau: „Osana![5] Binecuvântat este Cel Ce vine în Numele Domnului,[6] Împăratul lui Israel!“ (Ps 118:25; Ps 118:26)14Isus a găsit un măgăruș și a încălecat pe el, așa cum este scris:15„Nu te teme, fiică a Sionului! Iată că Împăratul tău vine, călare pe mânzul unei măgărițe.“[7] (Zah 9:9)16Ucenicii Lui n‑au înțeles aceste lucruri la început, dar când Isus a fost proslăvit, și‑au amintit că aceste lucruri erau scrise despre El și că ei le‑au împlinit cu privire la El.17Astfel, mulțimea care fusese cu El când îl chemase pe Lazăr din mormânt și‑l înviase dintre cei morți, mărturisea în continuare.18Mulțimile L‑au întâmpinat, pentru că auziseră că făcuse acest semn.19Fariseii au zis deci între ei: „Vedeți că nu câștigați nimic! Iată că lumea se duce după El!“
Isus vorbește despre moartea Sa
20Erau și niște greci[8] printre cei care se duseseră la sărbătoare ca să se închine.21Aceștia s‑au apropiat de Filip, care era din Betsaida Galileei, și l‑au rugat, zicând: „Domnule, dorim să‑L vedem pe Isus!“22Filip s‑a dus și i‑a spus lui Andrei. Apoi Andrei și Filip s‑au dus și I‑au spus lui Isus.23Isus le‑a răspuns, zicând: – A sosit ceasul ca Fiul Omului să fie proslăvit.24Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că, dacă bobul de grâu care cade în pământ nu moare, rămâne singur, dar dacă moare, aduce mult rod.25Cel ce‑și iubește viața, o va pierde, dar cel ce‑și urăște[9] viața în lumea aceasta, o va păstra pentru viața veșnică. (Mat 10:37; Mar 14:26)26Dacă Îmi slujește cineva, să Mă urmeze; și unde sunt Eu, acolo va fi și slujitorul Meu. Dacă‑Mi slujește cineva, Tatăl îl va cinsti.27Acum, sufletul Meu este tulburat. Și ce‑ar trebui să spun? „Tată, salvează‑Mă din ceasul acesta!?“ Dar tocmai de aceea am venit până în ceasul acesta!28Tată, proslăvește‑Ți Numele! Atunci a venit din cer un glas care a zis: – L‑am proslăvit și‑l voi proslăvi din nou.29Mulțimea care stătea acolo și care a auzit glasul, a zis că a fost un tunet. Alții ziceau: – I‑a vorbit un înger!30Isus a răspuns și a zis: – Nu pentru Mine s‑a auzit glasul acesta, ci pentru voi.31Acum are loc judecata acestei lumi; acum va fi alungat conducătorul lumii acesteia.32Și când voi fi înălțat de pe pământ, îi voi atrage la Mine pe toți.33Spunea lucrul acesta pentru a arăta cu ce fel de moarte urma să moară.34Atunci mulțimea I‑a răspuns: – Noi am auzit din Lege[10] despre Cristos că rămâne pe veci. Cum spui Tu că Fiul Omului trebuie să fie înălțat?! Cine este Acest Fiu al Omului? (Ps 89:36; Ps 110:4; Is 9:7; Ez 37:25; Dan 7:14)35Isus le‑a zis: – Lumina mai este încă puțină vreme în mijlocul vostru. Umblați cât timp aveți Lumina, pentru ca nu cumva să vă învăluie întunecimea. Cel ce umblă în întunecime nu știe unde se duce.36Cât timp aveți Lumina, credeți în Lumină, ca să deveniți fii ai Luminii. După ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a plecat și S‑a ascuns de ei.
Iudeii continuă în necredința lor
37Dar, cu toate că făcuse atâtea semne înaintea lor, tot nu credeau în El,38ca să se împlinească cuvântul lui Isaia, profetul, care zice: „Doamne, cine a crezut ceea ce noi am auzit? Și brațul Domnului, cui i‑a fost descoperit?“[11] (Is 53:1)39De aceea nu puteau crede, pentru că Isaia a mai zis:40„Le‑a orbit ochii și le‑a împietrit inima, ca nu cumva să vadă cu ochii, să înțeleagă cu inima, să se întoarcă și să‑i vindec!“[12] (Is 6:9)41Isaia a spus aceste lucruri pentru că a văzut slava Lui și a vorbit despre El.[13] (Is 6:1)42Totuși, chiar și dintre conducători, mulți au crezut în El, dar, din cauza fariseilor, nu mărturiseau aceasta[14], ca să nu fie excluși din sinagogă. (Ioan 9:22)43Căci au iubit mai mult slava oamenilor decât slava lui Dumnezeu.44Isus a strigat, zicând: „Cel ce crede în Mine, nu crede în Mine, ci în Cel Ce M‑a trimis pe Mine,45iar cel ce Mă vede pe Mine Îl vede pe Cel Ce M‑a trimis pe Mine.46Eu am venit ca lumină în lume, pentru ca oricine crede în Mine să nu rămână în întunecime.47Iar dacă aude cineva cuvintele Mele și nu le păzește, nu Eu îl judec. Căci Eu n‑am venit să judec lumea, ci să mântuiesc lumea.48Pe cel ce Mă respinge și nu primește cuvintele Mele are cine să‑l judece: cuvântul pe care l‑am spus Eu, acela îl va judeca în ziua de pe urmă.49Căci Eu n‑am vorbit de la Mine Însumi, ci Cel Ce M‑a trimis, Tatăl Însuși, Mi‑a dat poruncă ce să spun și ce să vorbesc.50Și știu că porunca Lui este viață veșnică. Prin urmare, lucrurile pe care Eu le spun, le spun așa cum Mi le‑a zis Tatăl.“
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. (Mat 26:6; Mar 14:3; Ioan 11:1; Ioan 11:55; Ioan 12:12; Ioan 12:20)2So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. (Lu 10:38; Lu 10:40)3Mary therefore took a pound[1] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. (Lu 7:37)4But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said,5“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor?” (Ioan 13:29)6He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. (Ioan 12:5)7Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it[3] for the day of my burial.8For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”
The Plot to Kill Lazarus
9When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus[4] was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. (Ioan 11:44)10So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, (Lu 16:31)11because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. (Ioan 11:45; Ioan 12:18)
The Triumphal Entry
12The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. (Mat 21:4; Mar 11:7; Lu 19:35)13So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (Ps 118:25; Ioan 1:49; Ioan 5:43; Apo 7:9)14And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,15“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” (Zah 9:9)16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. (Mar 9:32; Ioan 2:22; Ioan 7:39; Ioan 12:23; Ioan 13:7)17The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. (Lu 19:37)18The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. (Ioan 12:9)19So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.” (Ioan 3:26; Ioan 11:47)
36While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. (Lu 10:6)37Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,38so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” (Is 53:1; Mat 1:22; Ro 10:16)39Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, (Ioan 5:44)40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” (Is 6:10; Mat 13:14; Mar 6:52)41Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him. (Is 6:1; Ioan 5:46)42Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; (Ioan 3:1; Ioan 7:13; Ioan 7:48; Ioan 9:22)43for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God. (Ioan 5:44)
Jesus Came to Save the World
44And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. (Mat 10:40; Ioan 5:24; Ioan 13:20; Ioan 14:1; 1 Pe 1:21)45And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. (Ioan 6:40; Ioan 14:9)46I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. (Ioan 1:4; Ioan 1:9; Ioan 8:12; Ioan 12:35)47If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. (Ioan 3:17; Ioan 3:36; Ioan 4:42; Ioan 8:15)48The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. (Deut 18:18; Lu 10:16; Ro 2:16)49For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. (Ioan 3:17; Ioan 5:19; Ioan 5:30; Ioan 15:10)50And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”
